November 30, 2013 | Posted by Michael Benjamin

It’s time for Smackdown!

(I’m a little late to this as I’ve had a hectic few nights. My daughter is having some health problems that obviously come before anything I have going on. Thanks for reading.)

SHOW… ON!

Championship Roll Call:
WWE Champion: Randy Orton
World Champion: John Cena
US Champion: Dean Ambrose
IC Champion: Big E Langston
Diva’s Champion: AJ Lee
WWE World Tag Team Champions: Cody Rhodes & Goldust

WWE Smackdown Report 11.29.13

– The show kicks off with Renee Young standing in the ring. She introduces our WWE Champion, Randy Orton, who makes his way down the ring. He grills him a bit about how he’s retained the title and Orton shrugged off her accusations of futile victory. She then proceeds to ask Orton how he felt about being put in the ladder match with John Cena to decide an undisputed champion. He walks away, wanting nothing to do with that topic.

– Vickie Guerrero is throwing a post-Thanksgiving party in the back. She books Titus O’Neil and Khali in a food eating contest. We unfortunately don’t see the shocking conclusion as Henry and Langston make their way to the ring and we cut to them.

–Commercial Break–

Mark Henry (w/ Big E Langston) vs. Curtis Axel (w/ Ryback)
Axel goes right for the legs to make Henry as immobile as possible. Big E and Ryback get into it at ringside. Curtis locks in a heatless chinlock that Henry doesn’t have to try hard to escape. He delivers dem headbutts. Axel ends up on the outside by Langston. Ryback is about to intervene but Big E sees him coming and delivers a clothesline. Axel gets back in and eat a World’s Strongest Slam. Over.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Mark Henry @ 3:03 via pinfall
RATING: 3/4*

– R Truth is putting over Xavier Woods in the back before Brodus comes to complain about them and the Funkadactyls. Brodus heels it up and Tensai hits the scene to calm him down.

-Commercial Break-

Back to the eating contest. Khali’s head falls into his plate and Titus, who is covered in food, wins the battle. That qualifies him for a one on one match with Antonio Cesaro.

The Plymouth Rockers (3MB) vs. Los Matadores & El Torito
Torito starts with 3MB’s perpetual match started, Heath Slater. It’s what you’d expect. The heels end up on the outside and get the triple face splash. One of the matadors became the legal man after that and delivers a nice DDT to McIntyre. Torito tags back in and and cleans house before tagging in Diego. They hit their double team finish for the win.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Los Matadores & El Torito @ 2:54 via oinfall
RATING: NO RATING

–Commercial Break–

Tons of Funk (w/ Funkadactyls) vs. R-Truth & Xavier Woods
Tensai dominates Truth for the first minute of the match with slower, less interesting offense than he usually delivers. They have a bit of a dance off. Xavier makes the hot tag after only a minute or two and hits some crowd pleasers before Brodus tagged in. Clay takes out both of his opponents and hits the middle rope splash onto Woods for the victory.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Tons of Funk @ 2:15 via pinfall
RATING: NO RATING

– Renee Young catches up with CM Punk backstage. He hasn’t heard from the beard since Monday and is worried about him. Punk doesn’t know why The Shield attacked him unless they had direct orders to do so.

–Commercial Break–

– Bray Wyatt cuts a promo from backstage, Typical awesome stuff. He says that Bryan is safe with him and he will emerge as a monster.

Titus O’Neil vs. Antonio Cesaro (w/ Jack Swagger & Zeb Colter)
Jobber entrances for both men. O’Neil is holding his stomach. Cesaro hits a dropkick and the announcers are being generally distracting with their commentary revolving around O’Neil’s tummy trouble. Cesaro hits a gutwrench suplex and gives Titus the Big Swing. D-Young breaks it up for the DQ.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Antonio Cesaro @ 2:01 aired via DQ
RATING: NO RATING

– “Comedy” happens at ringside with the punchline being Titus puking into JBL’s cowboy hat. Woof.

The divas pimp some merch and generally sound pretty cheesy and scripted while doing so. Especially Brie’s closing lines.

–Commercial Break–

Tag Team Championship: Rollins and Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & Goldust.
Ambrose joins in on commentary and does a really good job. I found it interesting that while Cole’s questions annoyed him, he stuck up for him to JBL, saying that Cole was only doing his job. Ambrose says that it was personal business that led to the attack on Punk. Goldust and Cody make quick tags in and out working over Rollins. They both try and get the quick victory to no avail. The faces clothesline the heels to the outside as we head to break.

–Commercial Break–

Rhodes and Reigns are legal as we return from break. Rhodes is in control on the mat. Reigns makes it to his feet and gets Rollins in there. Rollins reverses an Alabama Slam and Rollins connects with the educated feed for two. Ambrose is very confused about tag teams comprised of brothers. Specifically The Dudley Boys and Edge and Christian. Rhodes gets sent to the outside and Reigns begins his power offense and brawling on the floor. The mauling continues in the ring before Goldust makes a hot tag. Both teams end up going at it on the outside before another break.

-Commercial Break-

We’re back and The Shield is double teaming Goldust. Goldust made it to his feet and hammered away on Rollins. Rollins wanted nothing to do with that and came back at him with a body splash. Rollins missed a follow up dropkick and Goldust got him in a jackknife cover for two. All four men switched in and out for a bit with no team getting a clear advantage. Rhodes hits a nice muscle buster on Rollins from the middle rope set up for two after Reigns broke it up. Goldust and Reigns end up going at it on the outside. Rhodes comes off the top rope and takes out both heels with a cross body. He misses a moonsault, Rollins misses a springboard, and lands in the Cross-Rhodes. Ambrose interferes for the DQ.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Goldust & Cody Rhodes @ 23:00 via DQ
RATING: ***1/2

– Punk hits the scene immediately with a chair and sends Ambrose packing,. Vickie pops up on the tron and books an impromptu six man tag.

Goldust, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk vs. The Shield
We join in progress after commercial. Rhodes back drops Ambrose as soon as he tags in. Punk tags in and hits the top rope fist. The faces go back to their quick and efficient tag strategy. Punk begins to chop down Rollins with work on the legs. Time for another break.

–Commercial Break–

Ambrose is going at Cody’s arm as we return from break. Rhodes finally makes a tag to Punk. Punk cleans house and signals for the GTW. Lights out! The Wyatt family are standing on the ramo as the lights turn back on. Punk hits a DDT on Ambrose and a neckbreaker on Rollins. Punk doesn’t even tag out before the Wyatts hit the ringside area and attack the faces.

OFFICIAL RESULT: CM Punk and Rhodes/Goldust @ 11:20 aired via DQ
RATING: ***

– The Usos and Rey Mysterio hit the scene to level out the playing field. Vickie comes out from the back and books a 12 man tag up next!

-Commercial Break-

The Usos, Rey Mysterio, Goldust, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk vs. The Shield and The Wyatt Family
Ambrose and Jey are legal upon our return. The heels are co-existin well enough. Rey tags in and hits an awesome DDT on Harper. Harper came back from that with his power offense, highlighted with a huge big boot on Rey. Rowan came in and continued the mauling of Rey, including a bear hug. Rey can’t tag out. Mysterio fought off two members of The Shield eventually and tagged in Punk. Punk kicks his way through his opponents. He hits three knees on Rowan and a neckbreaker. He goes upstairs and delivers another elbow drop. Ambrose breaks up the pin attempt and things go nuts. The ring clears after Rey hit a 618 on Rowan. This leaves Punk with him. Punk hits the GTS on Rowan for the victory.

OFFICIAL RESULT: The Usos, Rey Mysterio, Goldust, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk @ 8:20 via pinfall
RATING: ***

OVERALL: An underwhelming first half comprised of short matches can’t tarnish how awesome the second half of the show was. I’m digging every guy involved in that situation. Hopefully it doesn’t end without a proper closing chapter. Check out the second half of Smackdown so that you can watch all of that unfold in entertaining fashion. Also, it’s pretty crazy that this entire show was pretty much booked around the tag division, right?
