The Velocity Wrap-Up 04.29.06
Posted by Dan Zurbruegg on 04.30.2006

- Steve Romero, alongside Josh Matthews, welcomes us to Velocity.

- Opening Match: Chris Benoit vs. Vito
Benoit comes out to a HUGE pop. The two lockup and make their way into the corner, when Benoit hits an arm drag. Again they lockup, and Vito reverses it into a headlock. Benoit sends Vito into the ropes, but Vito hits a shoulder block. He comes off the ropes again, but Benoit reverses it into a drop toe hold, and attempts to lock in the Crippler Crossface, but Vito gets to the ropes before he can. Once again they lockup, Vito kicks Benoit in the gut, and then Benoit does the same to Vito. Benoit hits a few right hands and a couple of chops, and sends Vito into the corner. Vito fights back with a slap to the face and a boot to the midsection. He sends Benoit into the ropes and hits a clothesline for two. Vito gets another two count after hitting a suplex. Benoit comes back with a couple of chops, but Vito pokes him in the eyes. Vito sends Benoit to the mat and locks in a sleeper hold. They get to their feet, and Benoit sends Vito into the turnbuckle, but Vito hits a big boot on the charging Benoit. He then delivers a scoop slam and splashes Benoit from the top rope, which is good for another two count. Vito gets in a few punches and attempts a scoop slam, but Benoit counters with a rollup for two. Vito comes back with a clothesline for two, and then locks in the sleeper hold. Benoit fights back by reversing a scoop slam into three German Suplexes. He gets up and signals for the Diving Headbutt, to the delight of the crowd. Benoit quickly delivers one, locks on the Crippler Crossface, and Vito taps at 4:57.

Winner: Finlay
Rating: **1/2 – Great Velocity match.

- Video package for Backlash is shown.

- A Kurt Angle's Winner's Circle Moment is aired. They show his victory over the Rock at No Mercy 2000 for the WWE Championship.

- Matt Hardy vs. Andy Simmons
The only interest that I have in this match is to see if it outlasts Hardy's squash over Colt Cabana two weeks ago, which lasted 2:42. My guess is that it doesn't. They lockup, and Hardy reverses it into a headlock. Matt gets sent into the ropes and hits a shoulder block. He then comes off the ropes again, and reverses a hip toss into one of his own. Hardy locks in a headlock with Simmons' back on the mat, which is good for two. Simmons reverses out of it and into locks in a wristlock. Hardy reverses into another wristlock, but Simmons hits an elbow to the head. Simmons climbs onto the turnbuckle, goes for a dropkick, but Hardy ducks out of the way. Hardy comes off the ropes with a flying clothesline, and signals for the Twist of Fate. Simmons rolls to the apron, stands up, and hits a hangman's neckbreaker on Hardy. He then delivers a few hits and kicks to Hardy in the corner, but Matt reverses him and starts pounding away in the turnbuckle. Hardy delivers a big right hand and a Side Effect. He climbs the turnbuckle and hits a diving elbow to the back of Simmons. The Twist of Fate finishes him off at 2:35. They came up just seven seconds short of the Cabana match.

Winner: Matt Hardy
Rating: ½* - Just too much of a squash.

- Another Kurt Angle's Winner's Circle Moment is aired, this time being Angle defeating Lesnar & Big Show at Vengeance 2003.

- Nunzio vs. Paul Burchill
Big "Burchill" chants to start. Nunzio starts off the match by going for a German Suplex, but Burchill reverses it and slams him to the mat. Nunzio gets up and shoves Burchill, but to no avail as Burchill comes back and shoves Nunzio to the mat. Burchill comes off the ropes and hits a shoulder block for two. He hits another shoulder block for two. Burchill hits a knee to the back, and delivers several punches on Nunzio. Nunzio reverses an irish whip and hits an elbow. Burchill rolls to the outside, and Nunzio follows him and sends him back into the ring for two. He gets in a few kicks to the midsection, hits a snapmare, and then comes off the ropes with a dropkick to the face. Nunzio covers him for two, and locks in a leglock and then a headlock. Burchill fights back with a few elbows to the gut, and sends Nunzio into the corner. Nunzio comes back with a knee to the midsection, and misses the Sicilian Slice off the second rope. Burchill gives Nunzio several boots in the turnbuckle. He then hits a hip toss, followed by a left-handed clothesline and then a chop. A Flapjack is then good for two. Burchill argues with the referee, which buys Nunzio just enough time to poke Burchill in the eye. He goes after Burchill, but he gets reversed with the C-4, and Burchill picks up the win at 4:43.

Winner: Paul Burchill
Rating: **

- They show highlights of the Angle/Mysterio match on Smackdown.

- Main Event: Orlando Jordan vs. Scotty 2 Hotty
So, we've got Hardy, Benoit and Burchill, yet Orlando Jordan and Scotty 2 Hotty get the main event. They lockup, and after a few reverses by both wrestlers, Orlando locks in an armbar. Scotty gets slammed to the mat, with the hold still intact. Both men get back to their feet, and Scotty rolls out of the arm wrench and locks in an armbar. Orlando slams him to the mat and applies the armbar, once again. Words can not describe how boring this is. Scotty rolls out of it and applies a headlock. Scotty gets sent into the ropes and hits a shoulder block. He plays to the crowd, runs off of the ropes, and counters a leaping Orlando Jordan by grabbing his hair and sending him to the mat. He does it two more times, and celebrates, but Orlando comes towards him and hits a clothesline. Scotty gets hammered with punches and kicks in the corner, and rolls to the apron. Back in the middle of the ring, Orlando goes for the cover, which is good for two. He locks in another armbar, and reverses a running Scotty with a kick of the leg for two. Orlando now applies a headlock, and Scotty unsuccessfully attempts to fight back. Jordan taunts to the crowd, but Scott comes from behind and hits a bulldog. Scott goes for the worm, but Orlando sends him to the outside. Scotty landed on his feet, however, and quickly gets back in the ring. He comes off the ropes with a diving elbow, and Orlando makes his way into the turnbuckle. Scotty hits five right hands, but Orlando shoves him away. Jordan comes at him with a clothesline, but Scotty ducks. Scotty sends him into the turnbuckle, and gets a rollup, but Orlando kicks out at two, which sends Scotty's head into the bottom of the turnbuckle. Orlando nails a Fameasser for the victory at 6:38.

Winner: Orlando Jordan
Rating: ¾*. This was just horrible; there were more rest holds than actual moves.

Overall: It started off great with a fun match between Benoit and Vito, but it went downhill from there. Hardy/Simmons was a complete squash, and Orlano/Scotty was just dreadful. Burchill/Nunzio was okay, but nothing to go out of your way to watch.
