411's WWE Smackdown Report 07.28.06
Posted by John Nocero on 07.28.2006

From: Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan
Your Hosts: Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield

Show opens with a video recap of the World Championship Match at The Great American Bash between Rey Rey and King B with Chavo Guerrero turning heel by hitting Rey Rey with a chair and costing him the World Championship. Tonight Rey Rey gets his rematch and what is his emotional state, knowing his former friend cost him the World Title??

Plus: Finley vs. William Regal for the US championship!!

Ken Kennedy vs. THE ANIMAL
Exclusive footage is shown from the GAB detailing 20 stitches to close Kennedy's wound. Kennedy interrupts ring announcer Tony Chimmel and does his MISTER KENNEDY bit!. Crowd boos and in comes the ANIMAL! Cole says the ANIMAL was unleashed at the GAB. Collar and elbow and Kennedy breaks and locks in a headlock. ANIMAL tosses him off and leaves him begging in the corner, but it's a trick! Kennedy cheap shots the left leg of the ANIMAL and continues to work it, knocking the wheels off the ANIMAL. Kennedy sneaks to the outside and the ANIMAL follows. ANIMAL misses a clothesline against the ringpost and Kennedy sneaks back in!! Kennedy wins! Kennedy wins!! Are they building to the ANIMAL finally beating him clean? ANIMAL tries to get the Batista bomb after the match but Kennedy avoids. Scoreboard folks: Kennedy 2, ANIMAL – 0

Winner: Kennedy via countout 3:39

An invitation is shown inviting us to King B's coronation

Highlights are shown of the WrestleMania 23 fan rally, held this week at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, as we are back from commercial.

Vito vs. Simon Dean
Earlier today, Vito is shopping in the Motor City, hopefully for some sexy pumps. In comes Simon on his little Simon cycle and Vito attacks before the match. JBL says Vito is playing mind games by wrestling opponents in his dress. Really now, I just thought he liked cross-dressing. Low blow and kick to the midsection by Dean and Vito is down. Off the ropes and Dean with a double boot stomp to the gut, goes for the cover and gets two. Vito with a back suples and a couple gut shots, following with a clothesline to build momentum. Vito gets caught with a huge kick as Vito charges in the corner. but as Simon is repremanded by the ref for using something to his Vito from his little fitness bag, Vito hits the Implant DDT! It's the under the dress armbar submission and Simon quits like a girl.

Winner: Vito by submission 3:15

Coming up next, the Miztake tries to get a word with Rey Rey..will he ask about the GAB???

Miztake interview with Rey Rey. The only thing on his mind is winning the world title.

Tatanka vs. Sylvan Grenier
Crowd into Tatanka's yippee-yap Indian dance intro. Old school picture in picture interview with the Ambassador of Quebec. Nice touch. JBL says Sylvan sucks and he hates him. Tatanka shoves Sylvan into the corner but Sylvan is back with a headlock and Tatanka reverses. Crowd chants USA at a Frenchman and an Indian. Tatanka with a bodyslam and Sylvan bails. Sylvan thumbs Tatanka in the eye and runs his shoulder into the post and works him outside the ring. Tatanka rallies and the fans get back into the match a bit, but Sylvan with a back suplex only gets a two. Sylvan continues to work the left arm mercilessly. Hope this isn't just a resthold. Tatanka escapes and goes into the war dance. Hits the big chop and a scoop slam. Tatanka to the top by Sylvan dropkicks him in mid-air. Tatanka hits the papoose to go and only gets two again. Sylvan goes after the tomahawk and gives Tatanka a low-blow with the ref distracted. TKO. Sylvan drops Tatanka's headdress to the ringside floor post-match.

Winner: Sylvan 6:30

Promo for the World Championship rematch..and diva one on one action…find out if a red stringer can hold Jillian's massive mammaries!!

Brought to you by Autozone, the WWE Smack of the Night is the bra and panties match from the GAB.

Michelle McCool w/Kristal vs. Jillian Hall w/Ashley
There are sexy women on my TV! Okay, if this is a one on one contest why the hell is Ashley on the ring apron most of the match?? Michelle makes fun of Jillian's melons to start, and gets a forearm for her troubles. A quick cover by Michelle. JBL says with sexy women on TV and Cole talking about athleticism is like looking at the Mona Lisa and saying she has a nice frame. Michelle misses an elbow and now Jillian connects with the backhandspring elbow. Jillan's black thong is out for the world to see. And fMichelle's face is in her melons! Jillian is taking it to Michelle but misses a legdrop. And Michelle uses the ropes for leverage. Not too bad for a short match.

Winner: Michelle 2:41

Queen Sharmell invites us all to the grandest coronation in WWE history..next! and we get to hear from Chavo too??

We're back from break and Cole thanks us for watching the GAB. We're still in shock as stills are shown from the Rey Rey-King B match. JBL has said all along you can't trust a Guerrero. We are directed to the TitanTron for a Chavo interview. Chavo doesn't feel that he owes anyone an explanation for costing Rey Rey the world title. Chavo isn't there tonight but he will be there next week to teach Rey Rey the true meaning of the word "Guerrero." I thought it meant "exploited."

And in comes World Champ King B and Queen Sharmell for their royal celebration, clad with little girls tossing roses on the red carpet, and a huge white carriage carrying the pair to the ring. Queen Sharmell with the royal wave as red and white balloons drown us in loveliness. It is a sea of red and white love. Love I say. The crowd boos. No love. Booker looks on with a humbled expression. Peasants, bow down to the new king of the world, says Queen Sharmell. During the coronation, funny poster of a Michael Jackson mug shot in the crowd. Brilliant. King B thanks all of his royal subjects. But Rey Rey interrupts the majestic crowning of the new King! It's the jumping senton onto the royal King, the merciful King, the benevolent King, right onto his throne. How ungrateful! The 619 connects. Will it connect again tonight when it counts? Cole calls King B humpty dumpty. He's blind. King B is much more Busta Rhymes.

Back from commercial and the replay is shown of the coronation interrupted.

Regal and Finlay were arguing backstage. Regal thought they put their past behind them to become friends, but Finlay embarrassed him at GAB with the little troll. Finley tells Regal to step back and get out of his face. Tonight, we will find out what makes Regal the toughest Englishman in the world, he says. Finley calls him and SOB. I think we are supposed to boo Regal, correct?

US Title Match – Regal vs. Finlay
Cole notes that Regal and Finlay have a major history with one another. Collar and elbow to start and Finlay takes the advantage with a clothesline. Test of strength and Finley kicks to the gut, stomps the fingers and drops the shin on Regal's head reversing a sunset flip. Finlay is dominating the early part of this match, on the attack since the get go. Finlay with a chinlock and typical Finlay tactics – a thumb to the eye. I like how we are supposed to cheer Finlay but he still wrestles filthy. Regal takes advantage with a kick to the head and slingshotting Finlay into the post. Regal drives the knee into Finlay's temple and applied the pressure. Regal rakes Finlay's mouth and three straight rights leads to a series of covers. A "Let's Go Finlay" chant starts about 5 minutes in. Regal pulls out all the stops and tries to untie the turnbuckle cover when Little Bastard interferes and gives Regal a low blow with the shileighlay. Finlay with the tights and a school boy rollup. Finlay gives Lil B a high five under the ring post-match. The Lil B costs Regal the title again.

Winner: and STILL US CHAMP! Finlay 5:27.

Coming up next..it's the Diva search..it's the..oh forget it.

Back from break and the WWE Magazine presents the Raw Rebound, recapping HBK and The Coach segments from Monday in Cleveland. Umaga attacks and it is Umaga-HBK this week.

Okay it is Diva Musical chairs and I will not waste much time on this drivel. Sluts cheat by trying to stick their ripe asses early in a second-grade kid's game. How's that for analysis? JT Tinney wins the contest by defeating Rebecca at the end. Rebecca, obviously pissed off without getting the dear immunity for the elimination Monday night, tries to swing a chair at JT, but thank god the Miztake is there to avert potential disaster. Rebecca's ass is flabby. Best line: JBL wondering how we can get rid of Miz. I'm right there with you. Thank god this was quick.

Teddy Long is shown in the back on his celly when he is interrupted by ECW's Paul Heyman, who says that Teddy overstepped his jurisdiction by putting ECW World Champ Big Show in the Punjabi Prison Match at the GAB. Heyman challenges Long to put a SMACKDOWN! Superstar in an ECW title match Tuesday night. Long accepts and chooses…the ANIMAL. Heyman looks puzzled.

World title match..tonight. still. another promo.

From commercials, vote for divas.

Sylvester Terkay vs. Matt Hardy.
Terkay is accompanied by his manager Elijah Burke. Terkay looks like a underdeveloped Matt Morgan. This is the first time I have seen Terkay. Duh, it is his debut. JBL puts over he is a former MMA guy. He looks to work really stiff but his punches were sloppy and Hardy basically did dick. He was totally overpowered. Belly to belly by Terkay. JBL calls him Michael Terkay. Funny. Terkay with sloppy reverse punches and a hammerlock, or a variation of, for the submission. This match is a Terkay.

Winner: Sylvester Terkay 2:51

Finally, The Rock has come back…no no no, finally the World title rematch is next!

World Title Rematch – Rey Rey vs. King B
We are back from commercials and King B is making his way into the ring. He still looks like he is going to cry. Loud pop for Rey Rey out the ground. Again with the pre-fight intros. They have been doing that a lot lately. I like it. Booker takes the early advantage forcing Rey Rey to the corner with a series of knees. Rey Rey back with the right hand and a kick to the choppers. Quick two count by Rey Rey and another near fall. Rey plants King B with a bulldog. Rey Rey goes for the 619 but King B rolls out of the ring and we go to commercial break. When we get back from the commercials, King B kicks Rey Rey in the gut but misses the scissors kick. Rey Rey with 10 punches in the corner, hurting his hand in the process. King B misses the heel kick and Rey Rey dumps him from the ring. King B avoids Rey Rey's leap outside, and he may have twisted his knee. King B rams him face first into the apron and tosses him in. Side kick by King B and a two count. King B mounts and punches to the face. Rey Rey appears to be staggering. King B with chops in the corner and whips him across the ring. The "Eddie" chants start. Rey Rey fights back but falls into King B sideslam. Kick out again by Rey Rey. More chops by King B. Rey Rey ducks the jumping sidekick and comes back with his own kicks. Spring board cross body by Rey Rey but only gets two. Rey Rey wiggles out of King B's grasp and into the Three Amigos!! Rey Rey goes to drop the dime but Sharmell distracts the ref and Chavo is out..tossing Rey Rey off the apron into the barricade! Rey Rey bangs his lower back. King B with a scissors kick and it's over. King B wins again with Chavo's help.

Winner and STILL CHAMPION: King B 12:18 (approximate)

Cole calls Chavo "cold blooded" as we see King B and his Queen on the top of the ramp as show ends.
Considering all the talent that SMACKDOWN! has lost due to the Wellness Policy, this wasn't a bad show. I liked it. The women's match was fun, as was Regal-Finlay and I love to see King B vs. Rey Rey, even three times in eight days. Dude, it could've been a lot worse.
