The final build to Armageddon, and…long live Finlay!
Remember to send your thoughts on the show for the 3R's!
-WWE Smackdown
-12.15.06
-Boston, Massachusetts
-Announcers: Michael Cole and JBL
WWE Smackdown Begins…NOW!
-WWE Champion John Cena opens the show. He tells us he is here because he lives here, and visits his dad, he likes the Secret Santa program. He had Cole last year, and we see he got him an enormous hard sausage, a picture of David Hasselhoff without his shirt and a giant bag of salty nuts. "Everyone knows Michael Cole loves to eat salty nuts," tremendous. Also at the PPV he can make history by teaming with Batista.
-King Booker w/Sharmell along with Finlay arrive. They humbled Batista last week, and since he isn't here and Cena may feel left out he will now get a Batista beat down. Batista runs out as they try to beat down Cena, with a bandaged arm (nice touch and thank you) and things even up.
-Thaddeus Long is here now and says he will make more history, and have the first ever Cena vs. Finlay singles match RIGHT HERE…tonight.
Helms and London to begin. Takedowns and reversals, arm drags by London and a tag to Kendrick. Double team atomic drop/clothesline for 2. Irish whip by Kendrick, reversal and a cheap shot by Regal and Helms beats him down now. Tag to Taylor, gut buster on the ropes and then an overhead throw on Kendrick. Uppercuts now, tag to Regal. He grinds down Kendrick and then Helms chokes him out. STIFF knees by Regal, double knee now and a wacky facelock and Kendrick gets the ropes. Regal is Regal here, chokes him, stretches him and just works Kendrick down to the mat. Kendrick gets to his feet, but regal gets a sick throw ala the last few weeks, tags Taylor and a head butt to the gut of Kendrick. Off the ropes and a sunset flip try by Kendrick, rights by Taylor. Stiff uppercuts by Taylor, Helms tags in and gets a front facelock. Swinging twist to the hold and he holds on. Knees to Kendrick, tag to Taylor. Irish whip and Taylor misses a charge and eats an Enziguri. Helms tag sin and stops the Kendrick tag. Kendrick with a snap suplex and a tag to yang. Off the top with an elbow. Clotheslines to Helms. Spinning heel kick to Helms and a cover for 2. London dropkicks Regal and Taylor to the floor. Regal and Taylor leave the match and Helms is FUCKED. Yang slams him to the corner, Yang Time 2k6 (Moonsault to a standing opponent) and that is all.
Winners: Jimmy Wang Yang, Brian Kendrick and Paul London @ 5:35 via pin
A fun little 6-man here, that makes me want to see the two title matches more this Sunday, as they have the potential to really steal the show. I loved Regal and Taylor walking away once they didn't have an unfair advantage and thusly screwing Helms. (**)
-We see highlights of the Armageddon Press Conference.
-Good news, Mercury gets to keep the MNM style entrance.
Joey Mercury vs. Matt Hardy
Lock up and they battle to the corner, rights by Mercury. Off the ropes and a clothesline by Mercury for 2. Irish whip by Mercury, reversal and a clothesline by Matt and a bulldog follows for 2. Rights by Matt, Irish whip and an elbow by Matt. Mercury yanks him off the top rope and gets a cover for 2. Rights by Mercury, and then gets a charging kick, sending Matt to the floor. Back into the ring and Mercury covers for 2. Seated headlock by Mercury, Matt battles to his feet and escapes. Knees and a neck breaker by Mercury follows and he goes to the 2nd rope. He mocks Matt and gets a diving forearm for 2. Matt with rights, off the ropes and a clothesline misses and Mat LEVELS Mercury. Slam by Matt, to the 2nd rope and the OOOOOOOH leg drop gets 2. Knee by Mercury, but Matt with the side effect. TOF connects and that is all for young Mr. Mercury.
Winner: Matt Hardy @ 4:00 via pin
So much for that tag team renaissance huh? Fine little singles match here, but if these guys aren't going to be utilized in tag teams, they need to be put in to the Cruiser or US division STAT as they could be used so much better. (*½)
-A Video package for the Inferno match runs.
-MVP bitches to his agent about the Inferno match. Kennedy is here, they argue a bit about their tag team match, and their matches this Sunday. They eventually kiss and make up and are on the same page.
-Kane and Taker look like they are about to kiss as we go to commercial.
-WOW A HEARSE IS THERE~! Why does MVP have to look like a gay Power Ranger? Really, I would like to know, did Pat Patterson dress him?
-For those wondering, I made a capacola, salami and provolone sammich with some delicious chips and a Crystal Light during Taker's entrance.
-I ate it during the commercial, which followed.
The Undertaker & Kane vs. Mr. Kennedy & MVP
JIP after the commercial. MVP gets beat down for a while, but Kennedy distracts Taker going for Old School and then gets tossed off. Kennedy in, works over Taker a bit with some token offense before he becomes pussified. MVP in, he works over Taker for a while, but Taker can't let that happen and starts his comeback on MVP. Old School to MVP. He escapes a snake eyes, but Kane was tagged in. Boots to both by Kane. MVP tossed to the floor. Double chokeslam on Kennedy. They scare the ref and stalk Kennedy. Tombstone try by Taker, but MVP saves Kennedy. Taker chases them to the floor and MVP tries to run but Taker beats him down against the Smackdown set. Kennedy slams Kane to the steps repeatedly now. Double Count Out.
Winners: @ 6:45 via Double Count Out
Kane eats a DDT on the entrance way and Kennedy talks trash to him. Kennedy starts up the hearse, MVP beats down Kane and Kennedy revs the engine. GONG…RUN! IT IS TAKER'S THEME MUSIC! Taker appears in the seat next to Kennedy and he runs from the hearse. Spooky~! Kane sits up and MVP and Kennedy run, like always, like pussies.
More of the same when it comes to these four men. MVP and Kennedy look good for a bit, they get beat down and scared by SPOOKY (~!) things and then run like pussies. Can't wait for these matches. (*)
-Funaki waits in the ring, no entrance, he is jobbing as we already knew.
-Chavo on the mic. He bashes Benoit for "hitting" Vicky. Benoit hurt Vicky and scarred her. Chavo demands that he comes down to the ring and tells Vicky he is sorry. Sorry that the neck brace adds 2-3 chins.
-Benoit's music hits and he comes out in a pimp suit with the US Title. Wow, Benoit not in his gear, a shock.
-Vicky acts scared as the crowd chants for Eddie, please stop everyone.
-Benoit doesn't owe them anything because he didn't do anything. He will say he is sorry for what he will do to Chavo this Sunday. The ref gets Benoit to leave the ring.
Funaki vs. Chavo Guerrero w/Vicky
Chavo kicks the hell out of Funaki and clotheslines him. Back suplex, choke over the ropes, Funaki fights back, back suplex by Chavo again. Another. Funaki tries to fight back again, off the ropes and a kick and rights by Chavo. Tilt a whirl back breaker by Chavo. Brain buster and frog splash finish Funaki, pin me, pay me.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero @ 1:54 via pin
Benoit hits the ring, they brawl, and he gets a sharpshooter on Chavo. Vicky in, she slaps Benoit and he applies the hold still and smiles. He releases the hold and Vicky squeals like a pig as Benoit stands over her.
Squash and angle advancement. (½*)
-We get a video for the troops special on Christmas.
-Sylvan is in the ring, he is jobbing.
Vito vs. Sylvan
I was bored, and the crowd was bored. They stalled a bit, in a 3-minute match, yeah, I know. Vito dances, gets a leg drop for 2. Sylvan fights back, gets a Samoan Drop for 2. Vito gets "trannied" up, stiffs Sylvan a bit for no good reason and gets a Thesz "dress" press (they say) and roll up afterwards for the win. Lou Thesz is rolling in his grave.
Winner: Vito @ 3:23 via pin
Why? Just why? You have a PPV this weekend and you give a segment to these guys? Give this time to the 6-man or something worthwhile, not this. So Stupid. (ASS)
-The Miz, with Krystal come out to play Fear Factor, since he was on that show and knows all about disgusting things. He also did Trishell, so did I. Krystal is hot as hell this evening I must say. He has covered dishes with a pig's tongue, monkey brains and he has worms, but won't eat them. Boogey Man magically appears under a plate and scares them off. Joyous.
Lock up and to the corner they go and Cena breaks. Finlay points and tells the Marine to back off, and they circle and lock up again. Off the ropes and a shoulder block by Finlay. Hip toss and a slam by Cena. Elbow drop connects for 2. Rights to Finlay, Irish whip and Cena eats boots. Uppercuts to Cena now. Rights by Finlay, and a short-armed clothesline into a nerve pinch. Beer tap submission by Finlay and back to the nerve pinch. Cena gets to his feet, beer tap on Cena again and an elbow to the head by Finlay. Cena battles back, off the ropes and a belly to belly by Cena gets 2. Elbow drops by Cena, off the ropes and a splash on Finlay gets 2. The ref backs Cena off, but he goes after Finlay. Head butts by Finlay, Irish whip and a charge to Cena. Finlay takes Cena to the apron and slams him chest first on it. Back into the ring, small package by Cena gets 2. Clothesline takes off Cena's head. Off the ropes and a drop toehold by Can, STFU try and Finlay gets the ropes. Finlay to the floor, Cena follows. Finlay slams him back first to the apron. LITTLE BASTARD IS HERE! Cena catches him and tosses him onto JBL! Finlay slams Cena to the table as the Little Bastard throws JBL's hat at him. Finlay tosses him back under the ring and we head to commercial @ 6:10.
Back from commercial @ 9:15 as Finlay continues to brutalize the arm. Top wristlock applied and Cena battles to his feet. Sick clothesline by Cena. Seated senton and a cover for 2. Arm bar again by Finlay. He rips at the arm as Cena tries to get to his feet again. He does, escapes and backdrops Finlay. Drop toehold by Finlay and he works the arm again. Cena fights for his life and Finlay then drops knees on the arm. Back elbow by Cena, but Finlay clubs him down once again. Finlay tosses Cena to the floor, and then slams his arm off the steps and the apron. Back in and back to the arm goes Finlay as he is just relentless this evening with the arm holds. Cena gets to his feet, kicks by Finlay and they brawl back and forth. Off the ropes and a kick by Finlay. Cena tries an FU, countered and a clothesline to Finlay. Another. Shoulder block to Finlay. PROTO BOMB! 5-knuckle shuffle connects. Cena looks for the FU, charges and misses Finlay, nailing the steep post. CELTIC CROSS CONNECTS~! 1…2…NO! Finlay is pissed and he takes the pad off the corner. LB throws a chair in and Cena kicks it into Finlay's face. FU connects. 1…2…3.
Winner: John Cena @ 16:41 via pin
Really good match. Finlay ‘s work of the arm was masterful and Cena sold it very well, even struggling with the FU. Very good main event. (***)
-After the match King Booker runs out and they beat down Cena. SHACKALACKI SHOT to Cena! The big one runs out to get rid of the heels, but the damage has been done to Cena it appears.
The Tremendous Tirade: Cena started off the show well this week, as he seems to always be well received on Smackdown these days. It also built to the PPV and show's main events, so it was effective booking. The 6-man that followed was good, and continued the trend of good wrestling as well. Mercury and Hardy was fine, but both are lost out of the tag scene.
The MVP/Kennedy vs. taker/Kane stuff was about the same as always, making me not want to see the matches at all. I hate the Chavo/Vicky/Benoit stuff, if it isn't Eddie it is woman beating. The match should be good though, but it is hard to get excited when you hate the angles. Vito vs. Sylvan was a waste of TV before the PPV in my opinion and the Miz/Boogey Man stuff was bad as always.
The main event, like the 6-man continued the good wrestling trend and helped to build to the PPV main event, and as the go home show that was a needed thing, even if I dislike the inter-brand fraternization/who cares about the brand extension stuff. A solid show this week that mostly built to the PPV, so good deal.
