The ECW eXperience
by J.D. Dunn
April 10, 2007
Your hosts are Joey Styles and Taz.
Vince McMahon comes out in his BAD ASS PIMP HAT and vows revenge on one Robert Lashley. Lashley won't be here, though, because he has a concussion. We get a lengthy recap of last night to explain why. Vince also vows revenge on all the fans.
In the back, CM Punk is minding his own business and working out when Rob Van Dam comes in and says, "Dude, you are like totally reppin' our style, yo." Elijah Burke still wants Punk for the New Breed, though. Punk blows them both off but promises an answer…TONIGHT!
Tommy Dreamer vs. Kevin Thorn (w/Ariel).
Dreamer clotheslines Thorn to the floor early, but Thorn takes over by shoving Dreamer off the apron. MOVESET! A powerbomb gets two, but Dreamer comes back with a neckbreaker. Dreamer gets two off a spinebuster, but the ref gets distracted long enough for Thorn to crotch Dreamer and finish with the Dark Kiss at 2:14. 3/4*
In the back, Snitsky interrupts Extreme Expose as they're getting ready for their routine. He doesn't actually do anything, mind you, he just stands there looking ugly while they get creeped out. I guess that's what he does best.
CM Punk vs. Stevie Richards.
Stevie was not happy with a single ass-kicking, so he wants some more. Matt Striker and the Sandman come down to observe. We're JIP to Punk missing a springboard crossbody. Richards takes over and gets two off a backdrop suplex. Punk comes back with his Kenta-ish offense but only gets two. Sandman and Striker get into an argument, leading to Sandman accidentally hitting Punk with the cane. Richards rolls up Punk, but Punk reverses for the win about 4 minutes in. Wow, they wouldn't even let Stevie get the dirty win. After the match, Sandman tries to explain the mix-up. Punk joining the Originals just wouldn't make sense anyway because of the drug and alcohol thing. *
Extreme Expose dance segment. Snitsky interrupts again. Layla tries to run, but apparently the combined thickness of her boobage and ass keeps her from sliding under the ropes. Balls Mahoney returns and makes the save with a chairshot, but Snitsky no-sells and boots Balls in the face. Well, they're certainly giving it a go with Snitsky the Superheel.
Rob Van Dam (w/Sabu) vs. Marcus Cor Von (w/Elijah Burke).
Sabu is wearing a neckbrace to sell the Elijah Express through the table last week. Marcus controls with his power game. Kind of boring, actually, and we're only two minutes in. Finally, Van Dam blocks a charge and sweeps the leg. Cor Von hits a backdrop, though. More chinlockery from Cor Von. He blocks Van Dam's high kick, prompting a funny exchange between Taz and Styles on whether or not they watch tape now or DVDs. Van Dam finally comes back with kicks. Cor Von nearly tosses him on top of Sabu, but Van Dam lands on the apron. Burke sneaks over and DDTs Sabu on the floor, forcing Van Dam to give chase. Unfortunately for Van Dam, he runs right into the POUUUUUNCE at 9:08. After the match, CM Punk runs down, checks on Sabu and then stares down Cor Von and Burke. Gee, I wonder what he's going to do. Of course, in the end, he actually joins with the New Breed, and they all pose together. This was like every n-W-o turn from 1996-1998. Van Dam's paint-by-numbers style and Cor Von's reliance on restholds didn't help the match either. *3/4
The Extreme 411: Punk is a heel again, a role that should suit him well. The problem now becomes how they use Punk and Burke together because they both have leadership potential. Not such a good week from a wrestling standpoint, but it was better in a storyline sense.
