Poison and Vengeance...
Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. Be sure to check out the full results of the The First Show of the New "FIP" , with me at the helm of Full Impact Pro!
Also, before we get started, let me be the first (hopefully) to wish everyone from the United States all a Happy, Healthy, and Safe Independence Day! If you are not from the United States, then I still wish you a happy week.
Now, let's get to the action at hand. We open with a brand new video and brand new music to go along with it as Joey Styles and Tazz are at ringside.
Pick your Poison Match - Johnny Nitro vs. Tommy Dreamer
They announced this as a Pick your Poison match, meaning CM Punk picked Nitro's opponent and vice versa. Later tonight, it is CM Punk vs. Kevin Thorn. Punk chooses Tommy Dreamer and both announcers approve. Nitro looks confidant though as Tommy enters the ring. The bell rings and the lockup goes in Dreamer's favor with an arm drag. Nitro goes downstairs with a kick and hits a shot to the face before locking in the headlock. Dreamer whips Nitro and hits a shoulder block for two. Dreamer with another whip and a hip toss. Dreamer with a body slam and an armbar on Nitro. Nitro hits an elbow to the face and a European Uppercut to break. Dreamer to the outside and Nitro goes after Dreamer, but Dreamer dodges and Nitro hits the announce table. Back in the ring, Dreamer with an abdominal stretch into a rollup for two. Dreamer hits a backbreaker for a two count. Nitro reverses out of a hold and hits a jumping armbar. Nitro locks in a grounded arm wrench and drives the knee into the shoulder of Dreamer. Nitro getting aggressive as he just throws the arm into the mat. Nitro stalking Dreamer and kick the man in the arm. Dreamer up and Nitro whips Dreamer to the ropes. Dreamer holds on and Nitro charges, Dreamer ducks, and clotheslines himself with Nitro over the top rope. Dreamer on the apron tries to suplex Nitro to the floor, but it's blocked. Nitro with a hangman and a dropkick to send Dreamer to the floor as we cut to a break at 4:56.
We are back at 8:10 and Dreamer locked in an armbar from Nitro. We see some action from the break of Nitro using the ring post to his advantage. Nitro drops the knee into the shoulder blade again and again locks in the armbar. Dreamer fights back to his feet and hits Nitro in the kidney to break the hold, but Nitro hits a trifecta of kicks to the skull of Dreamer for a one count. Nitro goes back to working on the arm and then uses his spinning legdrop on the arm. Dreamer kicks out after two and heads for the ropes, but Nitro uses the ropes apply more pressure. Nitro connects again with another jumping armbreaker, but Dreamer again kicks out. Nitro once again locks in the armbar and again Dreamer gets to his feet. Dreamer grabs Nitro and charges into the corner. Nitro hits an elbow to the face and brings Dreamer back into the corner while heading to the second rope. Nitro leaps off and lands directly on the shoulder, but only gets a two count. Dreamer ducks under a kick from Nitro and hits a huge clothesline, which keeps both men down. Dreamer pulls himself up and catches Nitro coming towards him with a boot to the face. Dreamer ducks under a clothesline and catches Nitro trying a body press. Dreamer connects with a one arm fallaway slam and gets a two count. Dreamer hooks up Nitro in the Tree of Woe and connects with the dropkick to the face. Dreamer motions for the DDT, but Nitro pulls down on the arm and connects with the modified swinging neckbreaker for the pinfall at 14:06.
Winner: Johnny Nitro
And going back to something different, we have the Raw Rebound with the Beat the Clock from last night.
Back from a commercial break, we get a Boogeyman promotional video, complete with music that sounds like it's from a Hitchcock/Dick Tracy cross.
Tazz and Styles comment on what happened last week with Matt Striker last week and then go into the rivalry with Nitro and CM Punk over the ECW Title. We then go into a video montage for CM Punk. And into another commercial.
We are back and the Extreme Expose returns next week…. Joy…
Tazz is excited for that and Joey Styles is excited because we are now going to see the full match between Nitro and Punk from Vengeance. I wonder why we couldn't have another match to, you know, show some talent that you drafted or something. The following is from the live recap done by Larry, because he did a real good job with it and knowing what we do now, thinking about what could have been, it's very hard to recap this match now.
From Vengeance - ECW Title Match: CM Punk vs. Johnny Nitro
Benoit is not here due to personal issues. WE WANT BENOIT chants to begin the match. This will be hard for these guys. Leg kicks by Punk and a Mr. Perfect flip sell by Nitro. Nitro to the floor, tries to walk off the leg as the ref backs Punk off. Slap by Nitro, they run around the ring and Punk eventually gets a sling shot splash into the ring. A hard Irish whip and slaps by Punk. A whip and reversal, springboard kick by Nitro connects. Stiff forearms by Nitro now and a cover for 2. Cobra clutch variation by Nitro now. Punk battles out, elbows by Punk and a clothesline by Nitro and a cover for 2. 3-minutes in and the crowd is cold. A snap mare by Nitro and into a top wristlock. More Benoit chants. Boots by Nitro, STO back breaker and then a single arm DDT gets 2. Back to the choke/clutch by Nitro. Big boring chants now as Punk escapes, walk up Enziguri by Punk. Right exchanged by both now, forearms by Punk and a kick follows. Leg lariat by Punk and a cover for 2. Off the ropes and a back elbow by Punk. Nitro covers with the feet on the ropes for 2. Suplex try countered and a crazy slam by Punk gets 2.Go2Sleep try, countered and Punk sits down and covers for 2. Knees by Punk, Irish whip and a knee charge by Punk. Bulldog follows and Punk is on to the apron…springboard misses and a knee by Nitro. Rolling neck breaker while Punk hangs in the ropes and that is all!
Winner and NEW ECW CHAMPION Johnny Nitro
I still love Nitro's reaction of how shocked he was when he realized he won the title. We go to break again and when we come back, it's Punk taking on Thorn.
We come back and get another Miz promo video so we remember he will crash ECW.
Pick your Poison Match - CM Punk vs. Kevin Thorn
Punk heads out first as they hype the title match in three weeks. Thorn really needs Ariel with him. The bell rings and they lock up with Punk getting a waistlock. Thorn elbows his way out, but Punk flips over Thorn and hits a sweep and a legdrop. Thorn follows with a kick to the spine and gets a two count. Thorn backs Punk into the corner and hits some shoulders. Irish whip, but Punk floats over and connects with kicks to the leg and gut. Thorn to one knee and Punk connects with a running knee lift. Thorn catches Punk coming in and Punk gets dropped on the second rope. Thorn muscles Punk to the outside by Thorn. Thorn follows and rams him into the guardrail and twice into the ring apron. Thorn turns his back on Punk and gets drilled with a kick to the match. Punk then leaps back in and hits a springboard summersault senton splash. Try saying that five times fast as we go to a commercial at 2:57.
We are back at 5:53 and Punk has Thorn locked in a half nelson, but he gets back into the corner and Thorn gets the advantage. Punk tires another float over, but Thorn catches Punk and drops him on the second rope, only getting a two count. Thorn with a chinlock and Punk gets out of it with some elbows. Punk off the ropes and Thorn hits him with a flapjack. Clothesline by Thorn connects and he only gets a two count. Thorn now locks in a neck vice but is forced to break when he grabbed the hair. Punk back up now and whipped into the corner. Thorn gets caught with two boots to the face, but he catches Punk trying a body press and hits a huge slam. Thorn tries to go to the second rope, but gets caught with knees to the ribs. Thorn gets dropped with the drop toe hold into the second turnbuckle. Punk whips Thorn into the corner after some punches and connects with the running high knee and bulldog for a two count. Punk tries a springboard, but gets caught for Original Sin… but Punk counters into a neck snap. Air Punk connects and only gets a two count. Punk tries Go2Sleep, but Thorn powers out and drills Punk in the back of the head. Thorn tries a crucifix bomb, but Punk slips out and hits an enziguri and a roll up for the pin at 11:44.
Winner: CM Punk
Afterwards, Nitro comes out and Punk gets drilled from behind by Thorn. Punk kicks the advantage back and stops Nitro from sneaking in. They stare down as we end the show.
