The Tremendous Tirade: WWE Smackdown 11.16.07
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.16.2007

+++WWE SMACKDOWN 11.16.07+++

-We get clips of Batista and Mark Henry's history since they will do battle tonight.

-JBL and Cole welcome us to the show.

-Cole explains, NOW, that all three GM's agreed to share talent this week. That would have been valuable information on…say…MONDAY!

Non-Title Match: Finlay vs. Jeff Hardy ©

Finlay seems to be in his usual bad mood, while Jeff instantly pisses me off by doing his wacky dance and THEN selling his back. Jeff goes wild with a baseball slide and plancha to Finlay, glad that back is feeling better. Well he was feeling better until Finlay tossed him shoulder first into the steel post. Finlay brutalizes Jeff with some stiff ass clotheslines, and then the chinlock. Jeff gets a jawbreaker, but Finlay gets a basement dropkick to take Jeff back down. Finlay grinds him down, then grabs the hair as Jeff tries to escape and slams Jeff down. Out of nowhere Jeff gets the whisper in the wind to turn the tide. Some clotheslines and elbows by Jeff, a dropkick and another drops Finlay. Finlay grabs the SHACKALACKI, the ref sees it and after a brawl he is DQ'd and Jeff steals the SHACKALACKI.

Winner: Jeff Hardy @ 6:45 via DQ
  • I am actually fine with this DQ. Finlay is coming off of the big win over Rey and NEEDS to keep that momentum. Jeff took a pin this week and didn't need to lose again. I do have to say, another reason I love Finlay is how CRISP his work is, especially when you juxtapose it over Hardy's.

-Taker waltzes out to discuss the devil's playground, reminding us that he has been in there more than anyone and that it changes a normal man. It is the deadman's playground. He tells Batista that this Sunday, your fate will be the same as all of theirs and you will lose the title. He also reminds us that Batista will not survive, but he will REST…IN…PEACE. That's catchy; he should really use that more often.

Victoria and Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James and Torrie Wilson

Victoria and Mickie James Jeans begin the match. Sweet God she is hot. Victoria is great as she works over Mickie and yells, "REMEMBER ME MICKIE?" Nice. Beth works over Mickie, but she gets a tag to Torrie who is wearing better tight snow that she gave her old ones to Kip James. Torrie about blew a counter and Beth got the side slam, followed by the bitch toss for the pin.

Winners: Victoria and Beth Phoenix @ 2:25 via pin
  • Fine stuff, this is the one ladies match that could have gone longer due to there being wrestlers in there, but what can you do?

-We see Matt and Jeff backstage. Jeff is leaving because he has plans. He wishes Matt luck for tonight.

-We see more HIAC moments, Foley off the Cell, I was there, FTW~!

    MVP's VIP Lounge

Big things poppin, lil things stopping baby. He calls out Matt to be his guest. MVP says they are champs and have been through a lot. He says he had to tell Matt that this is a highlight of his career. Matt then asks about what happened Tuesday with Jeff. MVP says he had nothing to do with it, and if you look MVP had his back turned when Kennedy did it. Plus MVP saved Matt's ass afterwards. WRONG MATT HARDY! YOU ARE WRONG! Matt says he had a choice, and MVP reminds him that he saved Matt. YEAH~! Matt brings up the US Title and the fact that he hasn't gotten his shot. Matt says MVP is SCURRED and dodging him. He wants the US Title shot tonight. Matt says they have never been friends, which OFFENDS MVP. I am on MVP's side. MVP says they have a tag title match tonight and cannot defend the US Title.

John Morrison comes to the ring first.

WWE Tag Team Title Match: The Miz and John Morrison vs. MVP and Matt Hardy ©

MVP and Miz begin the match, knee by MVP and the Kawada kick connects and MVP limp to the corner for the tag. Matt controls, Morrison is magically in now and I think we had an edit. They now work the knee of Matt, as Miz slams the knee off of the steel post. Matt tries to battle back, clothesline to Morrison, but a dragon screw leg whip keeps Matt down. Matt tries to fight them both off, but the Miz clips the knee and they get the pin on Matt!

Winners: The Miz and John Morrison @ 3:50 via pin

-MVP tells Matt he'll make it right, calls Morrison and Miz 98-degrees, and says they are using their rematch clause right now!

WWE Tag Team Title Match: The Miz and John Morrison © vs. MVP and Matt Hardy

JIP from the commercial break and MVP beats down Miz. MVP tries a leapfrog and lands "bad" on his "injured" knee and tags Matt in. Miz and Morrison beat down Matt and continue to work the leg. Matt fights back, but Miz gets he reality check for 2. Morrison now works a single leg crab, and Matt gets the ropes. Morrison works a knee crank now and Matt taps!

Winners: The Miz and John Morrison @ 3:15 via submission

MVP is in to check on Matt as Miz and Morrison celebrate. MVP helps Matt up, raises his hand and KICKS him in the knee and starts to beat his ass. MVP was a BIG FAKER! He rips off Matt's knee brace and starts to punish the knee. He slams Matt's knee off of the steel post, and then puts it in between the steps and post and then kicks the steps! MVP tosses the steps in the ring, and then TOSSES Matt ala the Flair knee breaker off of the steps! SHIT that was awesome. MVP says he will always be better than Matt and they actually get a crowd shot of a woman crying. Tremendous.

  • I don't like this. Actually, let me quantify that. I like that they pulled the plug on Hardy and MVP and THAT went over well. MVP did a good beat down of the knee and that was fine stuff. MVP is awesome, and has that thing I love about a heel, a justified explanation of what he did. What I did NOT like is the fact that they took the titles from an oddball team that DID some good for the titles and moved it to ANOTHER oddball team JUST BECAUSE they don't want to have any faith in the tag teams they have. Smackdown has tag teams and THEY could have really benefited from the win in this situation. So that is what I dislike. Also, since when are Morrison and the Miz such good pals. They were getting along perfectly here, which totally contradicts what we have seen from them on ECW. Huge thumbs down for the angle of switching the titles. Match wasn't really anything
    Rating: *½

-SAVE_US in a few days or something.

-We get clips of the beat down we just saw. We then see Hardy being helped out n extreme pain.

-Rikishi gets tossed into wood chips. Lame.

    Ken Kennedy vs. Rey Mysterio

Rey works the quickness to begin, tilt a whirl, leg kicks and forearms to Kennedy. RANA, kind of, by Rey and Kennedy avoids the 619 as we head to a commercial @ 1:55.

We're back from commercial @ 5:20 with Kennedy in control of the match. He tries to take the mask off, Rey battles back and eats a flapjack. Rey annoys me by fiddling with his mask strap and then Kennedy beats him down. He works the injured rib of Rey and gets a cover for 2. Kennedy works the body scissors. To the floor and Kennedy punishes Rey by slamming him off the barrier and apron, and then back in for a cover of 2. Torture Rack by Kennedy, Rey escapes and rolls him up for 2. Rey gets a tornado DDT and both men are down. Cole is annoying me as usual. Rey then springs on with a head scissors. Springboard cross body for 2. Dropkick and seated senton by Rey. Boot to the head by Rey gets 2. Kamikaze roll try by Kennedy, countered and Rey rolls out, trips Kennedy, 619 connects. Kennedy is out of position, Rey in and Kennedy pulls him to the corner. They go up top, Kennedy goes for the Kamikaze roll, but Rey gets a top rope RANA for the pin.

Winner: Rey Mysterio @ 14:05 via pin
  • Not bad by any means, but I just never got into it.
    Rating: **

-We see Taker surviving Hepatitis in a Cell.

    WEIGH-IN: Khali and Hornswoggle

Hornswoggle is out first and doesn't look thrilled. Dead Half-Man walking. Hornswoggle weighs in at 138lbs, and Khali breaks the scale. Cole say he is about 420lbs, and there is a 280lbs disadvantage for Hornswoggle. Khali cuts a Khali promo. Rajah says he watched the mockery from Monday and he was NOT amused. Khali has defeated Khali, Cena, Batista and even Kane. On Sunday, Khali will add Hornswoggle to the list. They stand for a photo. Khali stands with his junk in Hornswoggle's face. Khali then stales Hornswoggle hat and crumbles it up as Hornswoggle cries.

Non-Title NO DQ Match: Batista © vs. Mark Henry

Batista attacks, shoulder blocks in the corner, boots to Henry and then he lays the boots to him. Batista slams his arm off of the post, again and then Batista slams his shoulder first to the post. Once again the shoulder to the post, back in and Batista works an arm bar. Henry tosses him down, but Batista gets a spinebuster. Batista grabs the title belt, hits Henry with it and pins him.

Winner: Batista @ 2:07 via pin
  • Batista gets to make a big statement going into Survivor Series. I am fine with this.
    Rating: *

-After the match he tosses Henry into the steel steps. Batista beats him down further and chokes him out with a TV cord. He then tosses him to the steel post and spears him on the floor. Bitch is dead. Wait, chair time. Seat for one…BAM! Batista nails him EIGHT times on the back, NEVER hitting the floor. OUCH.

-GONG…and we see Taker's eyes on the screen.

The Tremendous Tirade: Well the hype for Survivor Series continued and overall they did a good job as everything on the show was designed to hype the show or further feuds. I didn't like who they changed the tag titles too, but that's about all I didn't like. The matches were fine, and with all of the hype they did this week, I am hoping for a good show this weekend.
