I love how they pimp out the ring with the special carpet deal for the Cutting Edge. Edge is excited to be here tonight, just like he is excited about the Rumble and his title defense against Rey Mysterio. Unfortunately it won't be a competitive match, and we get highlights of last week's Smackdown, complete with the Rated RMY's beat down on Rey. Edge enjoyed that footage, and says that's what happens when you mess with the Rated R Superstar. Rey won't become champion again. Speaking of champions, his guest is backstage and has butterflies and sweaty palms. His guest is ECW Champion, CM Punk.
Punk makes his way to the ring and Edge welcomes him. They exchange pleasantries, Edge says he has watched his career, and Punk is like a young version of Edge. He says he has done well becoming the ECW champion, but asks who has he beat? Chavo by DQ and Count Out. What would you do if you had a third match? Punk fires back that he respects his opponents, especially Chavo. If Chavo challenges him again, he would accept because he could beat him anytime. He then says he could beat Edge at anytime. Edge finds this humorous and says he will let it slide since he was also young and stupid once. Punk says he is the ECW champion, this sure ain't Smackdown, and he can beat anyone at anytime, including Edge.
Chavo now makes his way to the ring and reminds Punk that if he wins, he gets an ECW title shot. And you said you would accept the challenge. Chavo makes a formal challenge for tonight, Punk says they have had the same conversation every week. Punk says he will win and they will end up having it again. Chavo shoves Punk into Edge and then Chavo and Edge now beat the hell out of Punk. They take turns slamming Punk to the steel post and have injured his shoulder.
-After a commercial we get replays of the beat down on Punk.
Rory and Morrison to begin, Morrison takes him down, poses and then Rory fights back and gets a flapjack for 2. Rory levels Morrison while Miz tosses Rory to the floor. Uppercuts by Morrison, Miz tags in and gets the corner clothesline for 2. Cross face shots by Miz, into the chin lock now. Rory fights, escapes with a jawbreaker and fights for the tag. He kicks off Miz and tags in Roby. He leans house on Miz and Morrison. Dropkick and then a powerslam to Miz for 2 as Morrison makes the save. Miz trips Roby into the corner, knee lift and the reality check get the win
Winners: John Morrison and The Miz @ 2:45 via pin
Unexplained jump? Basically. The match was OK, the champs looked dominant and that's good. I hate the unexplained jump though, plus we had two heel teams, which led to no heat.

-We get a wacky Kofi Kingston video. We see the beatings Kofi has laid down on the beaches, he's a polite bad ass. He will finally debut next week. That's cool.
-Kelly Kelly comes to the ring. She's going to talk, seriously. She says to wait until next week, because they will be in HD next week and we will see who has the best body. She takes off her robe and that's it. That was an HD commercial. I can't wait to see Colin Delaney's whiteness in HD.
-Tazz is with Colin! Speak of the world's greatest jobber and he appears! He is bandaged up as we see highlights of his beatings. I love this man. Colin says he hasn't done well, but he's here…barely. Tazz admires him, and asks how he thinks his career will turn out. Colin is here to fight another week. Tazz says he gets a huge chance as he will fight a former WWE champion…Kane.
Colin Delaney vs. Kane
Delaney puts up his DUKES, eats a big boot, slammed to the corner, charging clothesline, side slam, goozle on the ground, picked up high, chokeslam and Delaney earns another check. God bless him.
Winner: Kane @ 0:55 via pin
Awesome. Kane still has no direction, but I love these matches.
Rating: SQUASH
-Armando Estrada goes to the trainer's room to check on Punk. Punk says he is up for the match tonight.
-We see highlights of Jeff Hardy trying to kill himself last night on Raw.
-We get the Raw Rebound, highlighting the Hardy/Orton finishing angle from Raw.
-Styles and Tazz discuss the swanton and then say that Orton spent the night in the hospital and was released. Hardy left the facility before being evaluated. They then hype the Rumble card.
Shelton Benjamin vs. Nunzio
Shelton has already been placed into the Rumble they say. Big toss by Benjamin to begin. Off the ropes and a sunset flip try by Nunzio, but Benjamin stops that and gets an overhead toss. Rights by Benjamin, Nunzio back with leg kicks, off the ropes and eats a yakuza kick. Benjamin drags him to the corner, unloads on him Nunzio tries to fight back. Sets Nunzio up top, rights by Benjamin and Nunzio is down. Clubbing shots by Benjamin, rights, Nunzio goes to the 2nd rope and manages a dropkick. Head butt to Benjamin, leaps off for a RANA but Benjamin powerbombs him in the corner. They about blow the leaping flatliner and that's all.
Benjamin yells his catchphrase over the mic and nails the finisher better the second time. They need a name for that.
Winners: Shelton Benjamin @ 3:07 via pin
Benjamin rolls, it was a fine squash.

-Edge DIDN'T leave as he comes out to watch the match.
Punk comes to the ring holding his shoulder. Couldn't they use some shoulder tape? Come on now. Edge joins commentary as Punk favors the left shoulder and tries to stay away from Guerrero. Guerrero gets the arm, and works the arm bar. He gets Punk down, drops the elbows to the arm and is in control. Top wristlock by Guerrero, Punk escapes and tosses Guerrero to the floor. We'll head to a commercial @ 1:30.
Back from commercial @ 5:15 with Guerrero working the arm again. Punk fights to his feet, escapes but Guerrero takes him down. Kicks by Guerrero to the arm of Punk, rights now and then more kicks. Guerrero wraps the arm around the ropes and then keeps the kicks coming. Guerrero back with an arm bar, and then into more of a top wristlock. Punk manages an Enziguri and tries to fight back, but he'll eat a dropkick and Guerrero covers for 2. Uppercuts by Guerrero, gets Punk down and gets a hammerlock on Punk and gets the leg lock and drops back a few times to keep the pressure on. Guerrero works a bridge with the hold now, slides back to the hammerlock and Punk gets to his feet. Chops out of the hold, but Guerrero gets a rolling senton to the arm and a cover for 2. Guerrero goes for a cross arm breaker, Punk rolls out and tries to get a pin but fails. Hammerlock back suplex by Guerrero gets 2. Back to the arm bar goes Guerrero, Punk escapes with kick and then a leg lariat, knee of doom and then is stopped on the bulldog try. A boot to Guerrero, Punk up top…and then Guerrero snaps the arm off of the top rope. Edge then KO's Punk with the world title belt and he'll get counted out.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero @ 11:10 via count out
The match was fine, Chavo's work of the arm was good, playing off of the opening angle and it took two men to beat him. He also didn't a take a pin, which is good. But after three straight weeks of matches, I have no desire to see another match.

-Chavo gets his title shot with the win.
The Tremendous Tirade: The opening Cutting Edge segment was good as Punk got some time to shine with Edge on the mic, unfortunately Chavo's lack of heat brought that down. Morrison and Miz looked good, but the unexplained jump is a very annoying thing. Colin Delaney is great, but as I have mentioned over the past few weeks Kane has no direction. I think all they are doing is making him look like a monster again for a solid Rumble run. Shelton rolls on, but I also feel he needs a short-term feud to keep him interesting. As for the main event, as mentioned it was fine and played off of the opening angle, unfortunately I have no desire to see another match with these guys. A very blah show.

I hate to say it, but at this point Punk vs. Big Daddy V is looking like a pretty good ECW main event. Collin Dellaney is awesome though, I hope he gets a Rumble spot and eliminates someone Maven style

I'm Calling it now, when Colin gets the inevitable upset, he will change his name to "K-O Colin" COIN IT!

I hope its Colin Delany that beats Ric Flair at Wrestlemania, that would be all kinds of AWESOME~! What a first win for a jobber that makes Al Snow look like Bret Hart.

Maybe they'll be bringing in Mikey Whipwreck next to give Colin the "I became an ECW Champion" pep talk. Or at least make him a mentor.

ELIJAH BURKE where are you? Funny how the "new face of Extreme" hasn't had his face on television in weeks. Is he hurt or something?

I hate to say it but the highlight of this show was Kelly in her bikini.
Posted By: JMASCORPIO (Guest) on January 16, 2008 at 10:24 AM
After three straight weeks of matches . . . I am eager to see them get it on for real with the gold on the line and an actual finish! Good build there.

Punk and Mysterio vs. Edge and Chavo on Smackown this week or next. Book it.
Posted By: BJC (Guest) on January 16, 2008 at 11:28 AM
Good point Andy. I think they had some potential with a Punk/Big Daddy V feud. Add Striker into the mix and they could've had something along the lines of Gail/Kong in TNA. At the very least it would've been interesting to see how Punk could finally beat the man. This should've been the stopgap feud until they were ready to release Shelton.
I still don't see what putting Kingston on ECW is going to do for him at this point. He seems to have charisma and they could've built him up on Smackdown to deal with MVP. Anyway, if they call his finisher Cool Runnings i'm done!

Morrison/Miz finally take on different opponents, so that's new.
Another Kofi video, cool.
Kelly shakes it once again (This I'll take every week)
Kane squashes some jobber again.
Shelton squashes his ten thousandth jobber/opponent since coming back.
Chavo/Punk get it on for the third straight week.
You know, why bother tuning in week after week? Just watch one show, come back in a few weeks, and you'll still be caught up.
