ECW on SCI-FI 1.29.08
-We get highlights of last week's show, and Chavo Guerrero winning the ECW Title.
-Styles and Tazz welcome us to the show and hype the fiesta in celebration of Chavo's ECW title win.
Kane vs. Shelton Benjamin
We get replays of Shelton dumping Kane in last week's over the top rope challenge. Rights by Benjamin to begin, a short clothesline but Kane just levels him. Kane tosses Benjamin to the corner, rights and then off the ropes and a boot by Benjamin. He charges Kane, over the top and skin the cat. Unfortunately Kane just clotheslines him to the floor. Kane follows and they brawl on the ramp. Back to the ring and Kane tosses Benjamin in, goes up top and Benjamin leaps up top and gets a superplex. Damn. Kane hit hard and may have got his bell rung. Benjamin covers for 2. Kane fights back, but Benjamin works the leg with kicks. Kick to the face by Benjamin, and then wraps the leg of Kane around the post. Benjamin continues to work the leg, basement dropkick and then more kicks to the leg. Benjamin works a knee bar and then DDT's the leg. Single leg crab by Benjamin now, Kane turns it and goozles Benjamin. Gets to his feet, but Benjamin kicks at the leg to escape. Kane with a clothesline and a right to Benjamin. To the corner and a clothesline by Kane. Kane gets a powerslam and gets 2. Suplex try countered, off the ropes and a side slam by Kane. Kane goes up top again and gets the clothesline. Kane looks for the chokeslam, but Benjamin with the spinkick takes Kane down. Benjamin goes up top, Kane up and goozles him…but Benjamin stun guns him off the ropes. Benjamin backing but eats a big boot and he rolls to the floor. Benjamin walks up the ramp and takes the count out loss.
Winner: Kane @ 6:40 via count out
-Kelly walks.
Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria
They talk smack, and Victoria shoves Kelly down. Layla and Lena come out to watch as Victoria snap mares Kelly down. Victoria works the arm, Kelly flips out to escape with the help of the ropes but Victoria just tosses her down. In the corner and Victoria with shoulder blocks. Kelly manages a sunset flip and gets 2. Victoria chokes her out now as Layla and Lena watch on with joy. Victoria tries the spinning side slam, but Kelly gets a spinning head scissors. A clothesline by Kelly and another. She gets a RANA and a roll up for 2. A boot by Victoria, Widow's Peak connects and that is all.
Winner: Victoria @ 2:45 via pin
-Layla and Lena approve and then come into the ring. They check on Kelly and then Layla slams her down. They celebrate with Victoria.
-We see Colin Delaney backstage, being held together by ACE bandages.
-Tazz is with Colin Delaney. Tazz makes mummy jokes, and says he has to be held together at this point. Tazz wants to show a video of what he has been through, and Colin wants no part of reliving this. Tazz puts over that he is still standing. Tazz has good news for him, he doesn't have to face anyone those guys tonight. But he is in a 2 on 1 handicap match, against the WWE Tag Team Champions.
Colin Delaney vs. John Morrison and The Miz
Morrison to begin, but Miz charges him and lays him out. Morrison holds him as Miz gets his corner clothesline. Morrison misses a charge and Delaney pulls down the ropes by accident and Miz falls to the floor. Miz pulls him out and beats him down, holds him and Morrison with a baseball slide dropkick. Back in the ring and they get a flapjack on him (Delaney lands on his face) and Miz covers, but pulls him up at 2. Knee and reality check by Miz. Morrison gets the neck breaker of greatness and Miz covers with a foot, Morrison with a finger for the win.
After the match they double chokeslam him and as they beat him down, Tommy Dreamer comes out to make the save!
Winner: Miz and Morrison @ 2:13 via pin
CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke
It's good to see Punk's bitch is back. They stare down, lock up and a headlock by Punk. Off the ropes and a hip toss by Punk. A slam follows and then chops. More chops in the corner, off the ropes and a boot by Burke, to the apron, up top and a flying forearm strike connects for 2. Burke slams Punk to the corner, body shots by Burke and then knees by Punk. Burke keeps control and slams Punk to the steel post. Back suplex by Burke gets 2. A rear chinlock and body scissors by Burke now, Punk works to escape and delivers rights. Burke gets the holds back, Punk works to escape again and slams Burke to the corner. Burke leaps back onto his back and pulls him back to the mat, working both holds once again. And again Punk is out, slams Burke to the corner and gets a sidekick, knee of doom and then catches Burke off of a leapfrog try, the GTS connects and that is all.
Winner: CM Punk @ 3:28 via pin
-We get clips of the Rumble, and the World Title match where Vicky Guerrero was re-injured helping Edge.
Kofi Kingston vs. Rob Echo
Let's hope this job guy is better than last week's dude. Lock up and a headlock by Kofi. Echo fights out, off the ropes and a shoulder tackle by Kofi. A sweet arm drag counter by Kofi, back to the headlock and Echo into a hammerlock. Leg sweep, kip up and a drop toehold by Kofi into a seated headlock. Echo to his feet, forearms and off the ropes and a cross body by Kofi. Chops and off the ropes, boot by Echo but Kofi back with a dropkick. Off the ropes, "BO BO BO" leg drop connects. A sweet leaping spinkick ends the match for Kofi.
Winner: Kofi Kingston @ 1:55 via pin
-The Mariachi band warms up for the fiesta.
~CHAVO GUERRERO'S CHAMPIONSHIP FIESTA~
The Mariachi band plays as the Extreme Dictator Armando Estrada stands in the ring. Estrada brings out the new ECW Champion, Chavo Guerrero. Chavo is sporting a suit as he strolls out with the ECW Title. Estrada says Vicky couldn't be here, due to her tragic injury suffered at the Rumble. Edge cannot make it either, because he is by her side. But they sent along some pre-recorded video comments. Edge is first and says he wanted to be there for him, but due to Rey 619ing Vicky, she can't be there. She is in a bad physical and emotional place. He is comforting her, but they wanted to thank Chavo for making Vicky's dreams come true s they are a new family of champions. Edge presents a video package on Chavo and the legacy of the Guerrero family.
This warms Chavito's heart and he takes the mic. He thanks Edge and says he doesn't know how much it means to him. Edge is now his brother, his friend and familia! He then says he misses and loves Vicky and wishes her well soon and proclaims that Edge will get Rey for what he did. Chavo then says that he wants to tell the fans, "I told you so." They didn't want to listen, but he said CM Punk was not the future. That he was nothing but a steppingstone. And he said that in 2008 he would be a champion again. Take a long look at your NEW ECW Champion. And now, he invites us to celebrate his championship with his fiesta! He dances as they Mariachi band plays and balloons fall.
It is then that CM Punk, dressed as the Mariachi bandleader WAFFLES Chavo with a guitar shot and lays him out. That was no JJ exploding guitar either. Punk takes the belt from Chavo and stands tall over him with it held high.
~UFC CROSS PROMOTION~

Good job by Punk at the end! I knew he was going to come out but not as a memeber of the band. Totally fooled me!

Larry, were you hoping as much as I was that UFC would take the oppurtunity for some cross promotion and Dancin' Brock would make a cameo at the fiesta?
Posted By: ProtomanV1 (Registered) on January 29, 2008 at 11:54 PM
Dancing Brock would have been an amazing cross promotion! I need to find that...
Posted By: Larry Csonka (Registered) on January 29, 2008 at 11:56 PM
Punk was so freaking bad ass at the end there.
Posted By: Ari Berenstein (Registered) on January 29, 2008 at 11:59 PM
Delaney looked like pre-coma Shark Boy, lol

Aww, I was looking foward to you thoughts on the show. Can you post them? even if it is only in the comments section.

To Kaiza T-B: Bauer was out of town, so I justhandled the regular recap. If I have time I will post some thoughts, if not, they will be in the 4R's column Friday. Thanks for reading and sorry for lack of comments.

punk at the end was great he looked like he was really there for revenge which was good and i must point this out kofi was way better this week much better jobber this week lol
also glad Benjamin actually has a feud now
Posted By: project 86 (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 12:11 AM
Not even and COLIN FTW!
Posted By: Kaiza (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 12:51 AM
I swear to God I was also thinking about Dancin' Brock when Chavito was going to have his "fiesta" as it were. Any chance of posting a side-by-side battle of the dancing fiestas? Dancing Chavito would be cool, but can he beat Dancing Brock?
All kidding aside, ECW was alright. Punk making like JJ had me do a double take. Infiltrating another man's celebration for revenge is awesome. Kofi is going to be BIG. BO, BO, BO!
No more Kelly Kelly, please? And where is the Colin stuff going?
Will Dreamer and Colin be the new WWE Tag Team Champs? Heard it here first...
Posted By: J. Corzo Cubby (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 01:00 AM
Punk really needs to keep dressing like a mariachi band leader. That was a SWANK look for him. Maybe Tito Santana could come out of retirement for Wrestlemania and be his tag partner against Miz and Morrison. I'd plunk down $50 JUST FOR THAT.
Posted By: More Different Kevin (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 01:03 AM
5 match formula FTW!
Posted By: deadfox (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 01:07 AM

Another Crap Episode Of Velocity. And Ill Say again to everyone who doesnt have a dvr and has to waiste there life viewing this live,my heart goes out to you.I sure hope that this story line with that jobber getting squashed doesnt end up like SHARKBOY's program. What ever happened to the feud between the tag champs and JIMMY YANG and SHANNON MOORE?eh who cares. And This new Koffey guy?i bet well see him beat a jobber every week and then we'll never see him again. And why does TAZZ and STYLES put SHELTON BENJERMAN over? The guy sucks, they never should have put him on ECW,He was in the RUMBLE for a minute and a half. How is that a "GOLD STANDARD"?EESH,at least theres ANGLE vs TOMKO to look forward to.
Posted By: Paul (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 01:11 AM
Paul, It's clear you know nothing about wrestling.
Benjamin is a far better wrestler than you give him credit for, which you'd know if you'd been a fan longer than a few minutes. He's no Angle, but he's at least 1000 times Tomko. You want to talk jobber storylines? Try Barry Horowitz, now HE was a jobber. TNA ruined Shark Boy, TNAss!!
Posted By: dennett316 (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 01:20 AM
They didn't really need to put Colin in a handicap match. That's just making it too obvious. They should have just put him in back to back matches with M&M. Nobody NEEDS an advantage to face young clueless Colin.
Posted By: JS (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 02:09 AM
Dammit. Another job by Burke. I wish they would do something with him. I personally like him and think he has a lot of talent. He's almost at the point of no return here. SURELY they can find somebody with less talent and potential to job every other week.

I'm convinced now, Colin Delaney is MIKEY WHIPWRECK 2008! I Guarantee a Dreamer/Delaney Tag Team Championship. This seems exactly like the first angle they ran with Whipwreck in ECW back in the day. While I was asking myself "Why does that one mariachi guy have his back to the camera? Oh, that must be...", right as he turned around I thought to myself, "Holy Crap! Dan Severn is back!" Then I realized how silly that was, and that it was Punk, thereby ruining my fun. All of that took about .5 seconds in my mind. Funny how the brain works...
Posted By: Evil Frenchman (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 03:16 AM
So much for WWE not treating CM Punk as a star, eh?
Posted By: Henry (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 03:18 AM
LOL@that kid saying he's "No Angle". You're right, in 2008, he's superior. And back in 2005 when they had their 3 matches on Raw from Aug to Nov, Shelton outworked Angle in two of them while they both got equal work in the last match. It amuses me how angry IWC/Cena type fans are over the talent level that Shelton Benjamin possesses. Notice how he gets good heel heat now that he FINALLY gets mic time. Benjamin for Champion in '08.

Yeah, I read a news report that was all like "Punk lost the title, and then to Edge, and then was eliminated from the Rumble - this is an obvious indication that Punk is in the doghouse for laughing off his mistakes at house shows". So, in other words, it was expected that Punk would retain his title, beat Edge, and win the Rumble? I don't think so, somehow. Tonight's ECW just proved even further that WWE are taking Punk seriously even if they don't take the brand seriously.

I actully really enjoyed the show this week.
By the way, Punk pulled a Superman. All he had on was a hat and a fake mustache and i was completly fooled, even i when he hit chavo i didn't know it was him. great make up job...
Posted By: Tyler Moliterno (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 03:22 PM
The whole Colin Delaney stuff is crap. We get it, he's a jobber on par with the Mulkeys from the old NWA days. Big whoop-de-doo. Taking away 2 or 3 minutes that could be used for another match or promo with someone that will actually be going somwhere. What a waste.

Why was Chavo in the Royal Rumble if he is a Heavyweight Champion!
Posted By: Wayne (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 04:41 PM
I don't get why the IWC is hard for Shelton. Yes he's good, really good in fact. I like his ring work, but his mic skills suck. I mean he's got a manlier voice than Baby, I mean Bobby Lashley. But doesn't mean he's got a silver tongue either. He's got a Kermit the Frog voice. Zero mic skills. And a boring song. Although I thought he'd get the ECW strap before Chavo ever would. I'm not knocking Shelton's ability but I just don't think he has the total package and I don't mean Luger. His initial heel turn was wearing sunglasses and an open shirt to the ring? And had his "momma" with him? Stupid. Now he's looking like Slick Wagner Benjamin? I don't know. I'm not a fan of the guy, so I don't care what they do with him. I WANTED to see him and Haas with the World Tag Titles but no, WWE screws that one up. They stick Shelton on ECW and make a total ass out of Haas. I would have loved to have seen The World's Greatest Tag Team carry the World tag titles on RAW till WrestleMania and drop them to London and Kendrick. Give that match a 15-20 minute slot, possibly even open the show, that would have been good. But alas, this is the WWE, they don't give a shit about tag teams anymore.
Posted By: Derrick (Guest) on January 30, 2008 at 06:21 PM
As far as Chavo being in the Rumble goes, the theory was that since Edge was World Champion and Chavo was ECW Champion, the only thing missing for the "familia" was the WWE Title. So Chavo entered into the rumble to see if he could pull off a double championship (a la RVD).

"And
why does TAZZ and STYLES put SHELTON BENJERMAN over?"
I don't know...maybe because it's their job? By the way, thank you for the correct spelling and clear grammar in your comment, I found it easy to understand.
@Derrick: I pretty much agree, except I have to point out that his boring voice and song are probably not choices he can make, just like Bobby Lashley couldn't talk without sounding like Diana Ross.

IN RESPONCE TO DANNETT316:
First of all im not bashing SHELTONS wrestling ability,IM bashing the way he has been booked.Sence he has arived in ECW he has done what??He's Come out and cut a promo in the ring every week telling us about this "gold standard".If WWE wants to call SHELTON BENJERMAN the gold standard then have it be because of his wrestling ability, not because his hair is died blond.I am in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM saying that BENJERMAN is not a good wrestler,In fact when it comes to where he is on my favorite wrestlers on tv right now,he's in my top five. There is nothing i like more than to watch SHELTON BENJERMAN in a great match. But you cant say that the way he is beeing booked doesnt suck.He never should have left RAW,He should have Had WAY more of an impact at the RUMBLE,and In MY Opinion it should be HIM and PUNK at MANIA,but its not.The way things are are looking its gunna be him and KANE.And there building this feud off of the fact that SHELTON eliminated KANE in a minni RUMBLE on tv?How about have him ALSO eliminate him in the ACTUAL RUMBLE aswell, that makes more sence.
And this just isnt about SHELTON,this about the way everything is beeing done on ECW.Ya lets have CHAVO loose the first three matches with PUNK and then have him win the title on the fourth match which was on tv instead of the ACTUAL ppv, then have them bolth in the RUMBLE???This is what should have happened,CHAVO should won his first match with PUNK to earn him a title shot at the RUMBLE,then have him win at the RUMBLE and then feud all the way to WM24.And then I got people like you who say i dont know anything about wrestling, but in reality what it is is that i dont know anything about "sports entertainment" and thats why i look forward to TNA every week,it may not have the best story lines, but at least i know that i will be seeing good WRESTLING.
