411's ECW on Sci-Fi Report 2.05.08
Posted by Michael Bauer on 02.05.2008

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. Tonight is my 25th birthday. And yes, just like on Christmas, I am giving up a night of drinking on an important day for myself to be here with you.

We open with CM Punk coming down to the ring and talked about Chavo's fiesta and how he would never miss a good party. CM Punk says he invited himself and then we get a video package from last week's celebration. CM Punk laughs and seriously tells Chavo that he is using his rematch clause tonight for the ECW Title. This brings out Chavo Guerrero, who grabs a microphone and questions why Punk should get a shot after insulting his heritage. Chavo says it is not going to happen tonight, but it will happen at No Way Out in two weeks time. As for tonight, Chavo says he doesn't like to be embarrassed, so he will do the same to Punk. Chavo brings out Armando Estrada to explain how this will happen. Estrada is on the screen and he is outside. He says that Punk and Chavo will compete in the first ever Gulf of Mexico match. They will go outside, come as they are, extreme rules apply, and the winner must throw their opponent into the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, that is what he said. Chavo then says he will drown Punk.

Divas Tag Match: Layla and Victoria (w/ Lena) vs. Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool

Wow, this seems like a major mismatch. Layla and Kelly start and Layla gets an arm wrench, but escapes with a cartwheel and a hip toss. Layla back in the corner and Kelly hits an elbow after messing up her timing with the front flip. Michelle tagged in and she hits a neck snap on Layla. Layla escapes from Michelle and gets a tag to Victoria. Michelle hits some blows and Victoria downs her with some power moves. Michelle is down, but hits a roundhouse kick out of nowhere and tags in Kelly. Kelly goes up top and hits a perfect flying body press for a two count. Kelly runs off the ropes, but Lena trips her up and Victoria gets the Widow's Peak for the three count at 2:40.

Winners: Layla and Victoria

Styles and Tazz then go over Shelton's match with Kane from last week, which ended in a countout loss for Shelton as he walked out on the match. They have a rematch set for Smackdown this week.

John Morrison (with The Miz) vs. Tommy Dreamer (with Colin Delaney)

As John Morrison comes out, we see the handicap destruction of Colin Delaney by the tag champs, followed by him being saved by Tommy Dreamer. The bell rings and Dreamer gets a headlock, followed by a shoulder block. Dreamer reverses an irish whip and hits a hip toss. Dreamer grounds John with an arm wrench, but John backs him into the corner and punches away. John has his whip reversed and Tommy hits a bulldog for a two count. John gets the advantage back and chokes Dreamer with his boot. Dreamer gets knocked to the outside and Morrison goes to attack, but Dreamer blocks Colin from harm. Morrison knocks Dreamer in the back and rolls him into the ring. Morrison locks in a version of a headlock. Morrison hits a modified backbreaker followed by a neckbreaker for a two count. John goes up to the top rope and crashes on the corkscrew moonsault. Dreamer lifts Morrison and hits a flapjack for a two count. Dreamer sets John up in the corner and locks in the Tree of Woe. Dreamer charges, but Miz stops the charge with a distraction. Dreamer punches him as John gets loose. Colin grabs Miz to keep him from interfering and he gets drilled. Dreamer hits a baseball slide to the Miz, but he turns right into John's corkscrew neckbreaker for the three count at 4:18.

Winner: John Morrison

Joey Styles tells us that Stevie Richards has been sidelined with an injury for the past few months. Stevie had a throat injury that first happened in the original ECW when a guardrail got dropped on his neck. Stevie has now had nine surgeries on his throat, five in the past six months. Stevie says he returns next week because he loves to compete.

Kofu Kingston vs. James Curtis

Tazz loves how he smiles while he kicks your ass. The bell rings and the lock up goes nowhere. James gets a headlock and a shoulder block. Kofi connects with a hip toss and locks in the arm wrench. Curtis reverses, but Kingston lands on his feet and hits an arm drag flip of his own. Curtis uses the hair this time to break the arm bar. Curtis goes to work on the left arm on Kofi and locks in an armbar. Kofi tries to roll through, but Curtis uses his strength to not allow it. Kofi finally rolls out by getting over the top rope and throws some right hands. Kofi hits a leapfrog into a back elbow. Kofi off the ropes and leaps into senton splash. Curtis backed into the corner and Kofi tries a headscissors, but gets caught. Kofi punches away and flips off, landing on his feet. Curtis comes out of the corner and Kofi hits a jumping, spinning, roundhouse kick for the three count in right around 3:00.

Winner: Kofi Kingston

Gulf of Mexico Match: CM Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero

To recap, the only way to win is throw your opponent into the Gulf of Mexico. CM Punk is out to the ring first, meaning they will start there and fight their way to the coastline. The bell rings and both men try to trade blows. Punk grabs Chavo and chucks him to the floor. Chavo grabs Punk and throws him into the steel steps. Punk on the guardrail and an uppercut by Chavo sends him to the crowd. Chavo gets Punk a seat or two in the front row. Punk gets the advantage with some knee strikes as the cameraman almost gets wiped out. The keep moving and Chavo lifts up Punk and drops him on a barricade. Chavo clubs away on Punk, but Punk hits a shot to the gut. Punk leaps off the barricade with a double axe handle. Punk hits a high knee as they head backstage. We are waiting for a camera to catch up to them and after a while we see Punk throwing Chavo out of some doors. The commentary team is now silent. Punk drags Chavo outside and punches away. The two men nearly get hit by a car, but Chavo uses the distraction to hit Punk in the gut and throw him into the car's windshield. We cut to a commercial as Chavo punches away on Punk, who is still on the car, at 4:00.

We return from break at 8:19 and CM Punk kicks away at Chavo. We have no commentary still. Punk dumps Chavo on top of a mini van. Chavo fights out and charges Punk, but he gets backdropped on the windshield. Punk again loses the advantage and Chavo throws him off the ledge, closer to the Gulf. Chavo kicks Punk in the gut and starts yelling at Punk. Chavo punches away on Punk's ribs. Chavo grabs a cooler and throws it at Punk's face. Chavo tries to throw Punk into the water, but Punk grounds himself. Chavo steps on Punk's head and sets him up for a suplex, but it's blocked. CM Punk reverses and lifts up Chavo. GO2SLEEP INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO!!!!! CM Punk picks up the win at 11:28.

Winner: CM Punk

They should do more of those Gulf of Mexico matches or whatever the closest body of water is to the arena that night.

I liked the show tonight. The Stevie interview was great, and I thought the main event was really fun. It sounded goofy on paper, but I got into it and had fun watching it. The match was something different, and I like them trying to do different stuff to make them stand out from the other two brands.

The crowd was 2 seconds away from a 'boring' chant in the Kofi match after all the all the armbars.
