Two #1 contenders are set for next week's ECW!
Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.
The opening video leads us to Joey Styles and Tazz at ringside as they announce that for tonight it's Burke vs. Punk vs. Shelton in the main event, with the winner getting a title shot next week.
Kelly Kelly and Kofi Kingston vs. Layla and Santino Marella
Damn, I'm jealous of Kofi this week. Santino comes out alone tonight for his first appearance on ECW. Love Layla's entrance still, but not when Santino does it. The bell rings and the ladies start, which means Layla tags out to let the guys start. Kofi comes in and they double team Santino with a dropkick. Kofi leaps at Santino in the corner and comes down with a shoulder block. Layla yells at Santino on the outside. Kofi comes over and Santino hangs him on the top rope. Santino connects with a leg sweep and a hard clothesline on Kofi. Santino whips Kofi into the corner and Layla pulls his dreads. Santino over now and he hits a shoulder block. Kofi gets locked in an arm wrench, but he counters into a roll up for a one count. Santino goes back to the gut as he kicks away at Kofi. Kofi is up and Santino clubs the back. Layla gets tagged in and Kofi blocks a slap attempt. Kelly explodes out of the corner to tackle Layla. Layla reverses an Irish whip and Kelly is sent to the corner. Kelly gets the boot up and goes up top. Kelly connects with a body press and gets a two count as Santino pulls her off. Kofi comes over and sends Santino to the outside with a forearm smash. Kelly hits the Rocker Dropper and gets the three count at 3:52.
Winners: Kofi Kingston and Kelly Kelly
After the match, we get the exclusive look at Maria's photo shoot. I had no clue Maria makes clothing on the side.
Back from the break and it is 33 days to Wrestlemania, which shouldn't matter because ECW will not be represented right.
Mike Knox vs. Stevie Richards
Knox got the jobber treatment, not good for him. They put over Stevie's injuries as the bell rings. Knox backs up Richards to the corner and punches Stevie in the neck off the clean break. Knox chokes him in the corner and whips him off the ropes. Stevie ducks a clothesline and hits some kicks. Knox lifts up Richards and drops his throat on the ropes. Richards gets choked on the ropes and Knox then locks in a sleeperhold. Stevie fights back, but Knox drills him with a shot arm clothesline. Knox goes for the cover and gets two and a half at least. Knox drops the leg across the throat and gets another two count. Knox locks in what looks like a choke, but he brings Stevie up to his feet. Knox whips Stevie, but ducks too early and Stevie kicks him in the chest. Richards tries for the Stevie T, but Knox lifts him up and drills his back into the corner. Knox backs up and charges, but Stevie avoids the contact. Stevie twice charges in and connects with a splash. Knox is out of the corner and Richards hits the Stevie T for the three count at 3:35. Richards gets grabbing at his throat.
Winner: Stevie Richards
Dreamer is backstage giving Colin Delaney a pep talk. Colin's injuries are healing and it time to work to become a champion. Colin asks if he can get his own entrance music when he becomes a champion and Dreamer just stares a hole in him. PRICELESS!
The Raw Rebound is all about Hornswaggle and that continuing saga.
Non Title Match - The Miz and John Morrison vs. Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney
Miz is said to be embarrassed that Colin hit him with a punch. Well, I would be too if the kid never hit an offensive move before. Miz and Morrison come out separately, Dreamer and Colin are united. Colin is only wrapped on his arm this time. The bell rings as Dreamer starts with The Miz. Dreamer gets a headlock, but Miz shoves him off and Dreamer gets a shoulder block. Both men miss a clothesline and Dreamer hits a powerslam. Cheap shot by The Miz and he tags Morrison, but John walks into a powerslam. Dreamer drops an elbow as Colin gets a blind tag in and he connects with a huge dropkick for a two count. John tags the kid of his feet with a clothesline and mounts him with some punches. Colin backed into the corner and The Mix is tagged in. The Miz throws the kid down by his hair. Miz locks in a chin lock, but lets go to stop his momentum as Colin gets up. Miz tags in Morrison as he hits the slingshot elbow on Miz's knees. Morrison taunts Dreamer and tags Miz back in. Miz brings down Colin with a club to the back and locks in some sort of head twist. Miz nails Colin in the head as he starts to get up. Colin slips away from Miz and tags in Dreamer. Dreamer is a house of fire on Miz. Miz whipped into the corner and Dreamer follows with a bulldog. Dreamer locks Miz in the Tree of Woe and hits the low dropkick. Dreamer hits an Inverted DDT as John hits the ring. John gets turned inside out with a clothesline. Miz hits Dreamer in the gut and runs off the ropes, but he knocks heads with Colin! Dreamer turns Miz around and hits the DDT for the win at 5:08.
Winners: Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney
We go back to ECW after a look at the Wrestlemania press conference.
Backstage, the Tag Team Champions argue as Lena Yada comes over to tell them that they will have the defend the Tag Team Titles next week against the same team that just beat that. Miz says they have as much chance as Mayweather beating The Big Show at Wrestlemania. So you are saying there is a chance…
We see all three men walking towards the main event as we go to a commercial.
Back from the break and Chavo Guerrero comes out to do commentary and what we would imagine to scout the competition.
#1 Contenders Match – Shelton Benjamin vs. CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke
Chavo jaw jacks with each person as they stare with him. Chavo says he can beat any of the three punks, no pun intended. The bell rings as Elijah and Shelton stare down Punk. Shelton nearly kicks Burke's head off and locks up with Punk. Shelton gets a headlock and a shoulder block. Shelton off the ropes again and Shelton gets nailed with a high heel kick. Shelton gets the punches and runs off the ropes, but Burke sends him to the outside by pulls down the rope. Burke now in a Punk slams him to the mat. Punk gets sent into the corner and Burke follows up with a shoulder block and some jabs. Chavo says he would prefer to face Burke, since he never has. Punk holds the ropes to avoid Burke, but it doesn't do much as Burke drags him down with a club to the head. It looks like they try the spot again and Burke gets taken over with an ugly looking back body drop. Burke to the outside and Shelton comes out of nowhere with the inverted bulldog on Punk, getting only two. We cut to a commercial at 3:20.
Back now at 6:33 as Punk nearly gets the win. Punk whips Burke into the corner, but Burke sends him to the apron. Punk hits a kick to the head. Burke and Punk try to lift each other up, but Benjamin flips over Burke and lands on the floor, pulling Punk off into a powerbomb! Burke catches Benjamin coming back into the ring and grounds him with a slam. Outer limits elbow connects for a two count. Burke and Benjamin brawl on the floor and gets back up. Shelton hits a knee to the gut, but Burke hits one of his own and a European uppercut. Benjamin rested on the ropes and Burke jumps off of him and snaps his neck on the ropes. Burke heads up top, but Punk stops him. Punk gets shoved off and Benjamin leaps up and hits the overhead belly to belly on Burke. All three men gets up and Benjamin gets whipped into the corner and Punk follows with a high knee. Burke follows up and hits a dropkick to the back of Punk's head for a two count. Burke drags Punk and hits an elbow. Burke tries the outer limits elbow again, but Benjamin catches him. Burke and Benjamin trade reversals and eventually Benjamin gets to the floor. Burke turns into a GO2SLEEP! Punk gets the pinfall at 11:30 to earn a shot next week.
Winner: CM Punk
Chavo Guerrero hits the ring and Punk turns to catch him incase he attacked. Chavo didn't, but he held the title high as we end the program.
The look on Dreamer's face when Colin talked about getting his own entrance music. Awesomeness.

Shelton pinned Punk clean after the Goldrush bulldog. The ref stopped counting.

No road to WM24!? What kind of bullshit is this?

Sigh chavo vs punk again.

Did that WWE Commercial with Cena in it crack anybody else up?
Posted By: TWilliams (Guest) on February 27, 2008 at 02:15 AM
what a horriable show, ecw sucks big time
Posted By: paul212 (Guest) on February 27, 2008 at 02:35 AM
Sounds like an improvement on recent shows in my eyes. Kofi continues to win, Stevei's getting a push, the tag division is getting some credibility, and the main event has three talented workers and was given time.

that main event was BOWLING SHOE UGLY~
I can't fault their effort but they all looked lost in the 3-way format.

It is pointless if the show was good if there was not any builds for WM 24.

Sooo is anybody else completely sick of seeing chavo/punk matches? I understand Shelton is in the MITB match, but i would have liked to see him against Chavo at least it's something fresh...
Posted By: Nick (Guest) on February 27, 2008 at 10:18 AM
Plus why did Santino have to job? It is pointless if unless him being with associated with Layla is storyline progression. Whatever happened to him and Carlito feuding for the RAW Tag Belts? If you read this Larry, this has to be in the wRong section of your article. puRgatory at least.

I think Burke was knocked a little loopy from that first big kick from Benjamin, because he was the constant source of sloppiness in that match, and that's pretty unusual for Burke.
This was a really good show for ECW. Much better than last week's jobber-a-thon. Kofi and Stevie continue to be pushed, the Colin Delaney storyline is great and the main event is populated by Guys Who Can Wrestle. (tonight's unusual sloppiness notwithstanding).

CM Punk again? If he jobs in title match again I start calling him "Choker"

Punk pins Burke. That's fresh...

its not wrestlmania yet but it sure was botchomania tonight

I thought this show was really nice. I would have liked to see Kofi get the pinfall, but oh well. Besides that, it was a good show. I thought Santino was so funny when he entered the ring like layla. that man is GOLD!!!

ROHbots can kiss my butt for this. but I thought Burke and Benjamin were more entertaining than Punk. Punk must have lost all his energy in ROH, because ofter than the GTS, he's got no moves every other quick fast guy can do, MIZ and MVP do the Turnbuckle knee strike, and who doesnt do chops anymore.
Cena= making sure some kids will grow up to be fans.
Benjamin + Burke= Talented as hell, rising stars with awesome high flying technical skills.
CM Punk= Self rightous guy who never learned WWE style wrestling and bores me.
Jeff Hardy= What CM punk was hyped up to be!
Hate me as much as you want but I actually think that Shelton Benjamin and Burke are more skilled than punk and did a better job in that match!
By The Way, Dreamer starting the "E C Dub" chant was great. shame that it never got past the first five rows where Dreamer talked to the fans.

Oh, how sweet the fag thinks maria making clothes is sooooo nice! Mikey Whipwreck angle again from old ecw! This sucks on sooooooo-many levels where to begin??????????

Another tremendous ECW show. Week after week it's the best show the company has to offer. Despite that really sloppy 3-way tonight (and I agree with another comment that it was all Burke, though Burke is usually tremendous), ECW is a WRESTLING show with storylines that are about the wrestling. And right now, the 4 guys in the title picture are 4 of the 10 best workers in the company.
Plus, the Delaney stuff is pure gold. It's been almost 15 years since Mikey Whipwreck. It's time to redo that angle for a new generation.
Stevie's new push is well deserved. He's been the most underutilized wrestler in the company over the past 10 years. Heck, he might be the most underutilized guy with a long-term stint ever.
Even Kelly/Layla have enough chemistry that their matches aren't awful by Diva standards.
It's not perfect, but it's better than the other crap they put on TV.

I agree the show has gotten better but couldn't they have made the ECW and Tag Team title matches for Mania?
