This is the old one, not the new one because I'm catching up (and because they moved the time that the show airs).
March 19, 2008
From Las Vegas, Nev.
Your host is David Marquez. Todd Kennely and Ricky O are your announcers.
C. Edward Vanderpyle interrupts Marquez to hype the matches involving his stable. Karl Anderson offers Joey Ryan his undying support when he faces that "dirty, stinking Mexican." Classy.
Non-Title: T.J. Perkins vs. Trestan Gallo. Adam Pearce joins the commentary crew to demand competition. Perkins stays one step ahead of Gallo through most of the match, gripping his nose to hold on to a headlock. Perkins works in his spider spot and tricks Gallo into charging him. Gallo spills to the floor. Perkins gets two off a Guerrero-ish slingshot senton, but he stops to jaw with Pearce. That allows Gallo to spear T.J. and take over. Gallo hits a backbreaker, but Perkins blocks a dive off the top and huracanranas Gallo for two. A crossbody gets two. A crucifix gets two more. T.J. hits a nice flying neckbreaker and finishes with the 450-splash at 8:24. **
Pearce says Perkins has a long way to go.
Recap of Adam Pearce giving Nick Jackson a piledriver and injuring his neck.
The Young Bucks vs. Alkatraz & Sexy Chino.
Alkatraz tends to take losses out on his partners, and Sexy Chino is a scrawny, hapless little guy. I don't foresee good things for Sexy Chino. Alkatraz overpowers the Jacksons, but he tags in Chino. Big mistake. The Jacksons destroy Chino with Rockers-ish doubleteams. Alkatraz gets the tag and breaks his parole with violent attacks on the Jacksons. He keeps instructing Chino to do all the work, though. So, Chino is his bitch? Matt hits Alkatraz with a bulldog to set up the "hot" tag spot. It's funny because Kennely screams, "Listen to these fans," but they're barely making any noise. It's like that seen in Major League where Bob Eucker leans over to get the crowd sounds and there are like 1,000 people in the stadium. The Bucks finish with More Bang for Your Buck at 8:32. Kind of disjointed really. The dynamic between Alkatraz and his partners is somewhat interesting, even if it's been done before. *3/4
After the match, Alkatraz attacks Chino. "Special E" Eugene Dinsmore comes out to help Chino to the back.
They show a commercial for ROH "Rising Above," which would be the first time I've actually seen any promotion for an ROH PPV.
Willie Mack from St. Louis is happy to be making his debut tonight…
Brent Albright vs. Willie Mack.
Well, Mack probably won't be happy long. I foresee lots of armwork. I am not disappointed as Albright steamrolls him and grabs an armbar. Albright dropkicks him to the floor and follows with a pescado. Kennely compares Albright to the Dynamite Kid. That's a bit much. Mack shoves Albright off the top rope to take over. Mack does nothing of note. His highspot is a Hogan-esque legdrop. Albright comes back and hits a Swandive Headbutt. That sets up a German Suplex, a Backdrop suplex, and the 61Knee. The Mr. Salty finishes at 7:20. Albright did look fairly impressive, and it would be interesting if he wound up feuding with his ROH stablemate Adam Pearce. *1/2
Joey Ryan (w/Karl Anderson & Vanderpyle) vs. Zokre.
Ryan has bleached his hair. Nice touch with the Captain America shield on the tights. Zokre clears him out of the ring and slams the Real American Heroes' heads together. The ref tosses Anderson and Vanderpyle, allowing Ryan to recover and toss Zokre over the top. See, that's why you have the over-the-top rule – it gives the heel one more avenue to cheat. Ryan takes over and pulls the old "it looks like a chinlock but it's really a choke" spot. Zokre goes after Ryan's back and locks in a Boston Crab. Ryan makes the ropes and pump-handle T-bones Zokre across the ring. Zokre rolls him up and comes back with a sitout Protobomb. Ryan can't get him up, so he superkicks him for two. Ryan argues with the ref about the count, so Zokre grabs him and takes him down into La Majestral cradle at 9:32. **1/4
In the back, Adam Pearce attacks Zokre's partner Phoenix Star.
Eugene Dinsmore vs. Sexy Sonny Sampson.
Meh. The Eugene gimmick got stale 3 months after his debut. I guess maybe he sells a lot of merch to the kids, but then I don't see too many kids in the audience. Sampson controls early, shoulderblocking Dinsmore down and schoolboying him for two. Sampson shows off his washboard abs… if the washboard was pregnant. Eugene comes back and rides Sampson around the ring like a pony. Sampson gets pissed and rips apart Dinsmore's stuffed rabbit "Evad" (**nyuk, nyuk, nyuk**). KILL DA WABBIT! Eugene is distracted enough for Sampson to take over. Sampson does a lot of biting. He beats Eugene with his own dead rabbit and then humps the rabbit. Eugene HULKS UP! AIRPLANE SPIN! Double ax-handle with the rabbit! Dinsmore finishes with an O'Connor Roll at 10:12. Kind of fun in a silly way. *1/2
After the match, Alkatraz accosts Eugene, but we're out of time.
The 411: Ryan versus Zokre was okay. The rest was just average or squashes. The way they're filming this makes it look like a tiny 10-man promotion. They need to open things up a bit. Maybe some vignettes to let us know who these guys are. I like most of the talent involved, but they need help from the bookers and production staff.
