411’s WWE Raw Report 04.21.08
Posted by Arnold Furious on 04.21.2008
Long live the King!
This evening on Raw we have the 2008 King of the Ring tournament. Held for the first time on Raw in a single evening. This used to be a PPV event folks and we're getting this one for free. Also…
Those McCainiacs are fixing to run wild all over South Carolina. I'm sure getting words from the presidential candidates will be significantly better than another fake match (remember Donald Trump v Rosie O'Donnell? And that had Ace Steel in it!) Hill-Rod & The Ba-Rock need to sort out the Democratic side of things before moving on to rumble with John McCain however. Just remember to go and vote kids or you'll get stuck with another George W. Bush and while that's great for Saturday Night Live it's bad for the world.
We're in Greenville, South Carolina. Hosts are Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler. They plug the main event match of Taker/Kane/HHH/Cena v Orton/JBL/Chavo/Edge and also the Barack v Hillary match that they're doing anyway. Uh. We go to Lillian who announces the return of the King of the Ring and we get the first quarter-final…
KotR QF – CHRIS JERICHO v MVP
IC champion v US champion to open. MVP starts off aggressively with a firm headlock. Jericho retorts with knees. Both guys mean business and are out for a quick victory. MVP gets dumped on the ropes and Jericho adds in a baseball slide dropkick but MVP was nowhere near the ropes so Jericho had to dive right through the ropes. MVP catches him with a knee coming back in and an inverted DDT through the ropes for 2. MVP grounds it and hooks an abdominal stretch off the mat. Jericho comes back with forearms but MVP catches him in a belly to belly for 2. They switch countering standing and Jericho gets a Northern Lights for 2 into the bridge up with backslide for another 2. BOOT TO THE FACE gets 2. MVP just kicking Jericho under the chin with his big size 10's. MVP tries to get some momentum going running the ropes but runs in a clothesline. He's got this huge bruise over his eye. Jericho with a bulldog but MVP rolls out of the way of the Lionsault. PLAY OF THE DAY countered into the WALLS OF JERICHO! He sits RIGHT BACK on that sucker and MVP taps out!
Winner: Chris Jericho via submission . **1/4. Fun and highly charged opener. A few small mistakes but nothing unforgivable. MVP got a huge bruise for his troubles.
POST MATCH Jericho sizes up the Royal Throne. Suits him.
BACKSTAGE CM Punk warms up. Seems he's up next.
KotR QF – CM PUNK v MATT HARDY
This is big. It should give us an idea of who the WWE is more serious about pushing. They hook up and the crowd seems on the side of Hardy. They counter a lot with Hardy going after the Side Effect but Punk elbowing him in the back of the head repeatedly before hitting a neckbreaker. Crowd remains pro-Hardy as Punk chinlocks him then moves to a headlock when he escapes. Punk drives knees in the corner in dominant fashion. He goes after a superplex but Hardy cuts him off with strikes. Yodelling elbow drop connects. Hardy tries for a bulldog but Punk counters into the corner with a big knee strike and his own bulldog gets 2. Punk goes for the springboard lariat but gets caught in the Side Effect for 2. Hardy wants the Twist of Fate, countered to the GTS but Hardy counters back the other way into a sunset flip and Punk blocks the roll up by grabbing the legs and gets the pin.
Winner: Cm Punk via pinfall. **1/2. Another fast paced opening round match. Punk seemed to have a little more intensity and also seemed to have Hardy's moves scouted better. Punk sits on the throne post match.
BRACKET – Well. Jericho v Punk is your first semi-final. The other participants remain unnamed.
CLIPS – THQ made Barack Obama v Hilary Clinton on Smackdown v Raw. Clinton gets booed. That doesn't bode well for Hill-Rod. Lawler has cheap thrills over the computer game. Hmmm.
LAST WEEK – HHH v JBL. Orton attacks H's causing a DQ. Orton isn't smart for not seeing JBL turn on him coming. JR tells us the 4-way at Backlash is now an ELIMINATION RULES MATCH. I approve.
BACKSTAGE JBL claims although tonight is KotR it's Sunday that he'll be crowned…WWE champion. He says he has a great track record of college sports, Wall Street and in the ring. He points out his company is on the front of the paper today. He's not only going to be news on Sunday he'll be champion.
KotR QF – GREAT KHALI v FIT FINLAY w/Hornswoggle
Khali breaks with this evening's tradition and sits on the throne before the match. Finlay tries to go after the legs but gets knocked clear and slammed. Khali misses a slow legdrop. Finlay has him down lower now and lays in punches. Khali chokes him for that and seems to consider a Tree Slam before throwing Finlay into the corner and booting him. Hornswoggle comes in with a shillelagh. Khali grabs it and Finlay protects the boy but gets himself BRAIN CHOPPED for that. Khali posts the knee and Charles Robinson seems extremely upset with this turn of events. So much so he disqualifies him for ignoring the count.
Winner: Finlay via DQ. 3/4*. Short. Served it's purpose. IE got Khali on Raw for the inevitable Big Show showdown and advanced someone else to the semis.
POST MATCH The Big Show is out here. He's objecting to getting Tree Slammed on Smackdown. Khali takes a walk instead of fighting. Show wants a piece of him but Khali has proven his point. Finlay gets carried out.
KotR QF – WILLIAM REGAL v HORNSWOGGLE
Hornswoggle is still helping Finlay leave the arena so Regal sneaks up and throws him back into the ring. BOO! Hornswoggle doesn't even dodge the opening attack. REGAL STRETCH! Hornswoggle taps out.
Winner: William Regal via submission. Well that certainly puts some heat on Regal v Finlay in the semi's.
BRACKET – Jericho v Punk, Finlay v Regal. One of them will be King of the Ring.
BACKSTAGE Shawn Michaels walks.
CLIPS – Wrestlemania Revenge Tour in Europe. The show outdoor in Spain looked COOL. Was that a bullfighting arena?
PROMO TIME – Shawn Michaels. He says the last thing he expected would happen when he faced Ric Flair was that he'd have to face Batista at Backlash. He only has one question and invites Dave down to hear it. He's casual in jeans and a vest this evening. Shawn appreciates him coming out here. He points out last week on Smackdown Jericho asked him a question and he didn't answer it. Shawn needs to know; did Dave want to be the man to face Flair at Wrestlemania? Is that what this is about? Dave says that's not the case. It's not about Ric Flair. It's about Dave and Shawn. Dave says he respects Shawn's career but he doesn't like how he got there. He's sick of talking so he says at Backlash he's going to finish this. Shawn has some honesty of his own. I'm the headliner, the main event, the showstopper and Mr Wrestlemania and "I am the man". Shawn says there's blood on his hands from "collateral damage". Shawn says Dave thinks he's morally superior to Shawn but he needs to remember that guy he hates the morals of is his opponent at Backlash. Shawn offers good luck because Dave will need it. INTENSE HANDSHAKE!!! Shawn fakes the superkick, which is just awesome because Dave doesn't flinch. He just drops the mic and knocks Shawn aside before walking out.
The Presidential Candidates speak: #1
Hilary Clinton asks us to call her "Hill-Rod". She talks about some of the issues and says she'll go to the mat for us and can take a hit for the American people. She promises Randy Orton she won't go after the WWE title just yet…but she is ready to rumble.
HARDCORE HOLLY w/Cody Rhodes v CARLITO w/Santino Marella
JR feels the need to remind stupid people who can't count that this isn't part of the King of the Ring tournament. Holly starts with a power advantage and shoulderblocks then slams Carlito for 2. Carlito takes an atomic drop and a clothesline for 2. Carlito comes back with the Kitchen Sink and some stomping then punching. Is he stuck on ‘lazy' again? Back suplex gets 1. Chinlock. Carlito with a dropkick for 2. He starts working the back with elbows. Slam gets 1. Holly isn't liking these lame pinfall attempts. Holly comes back and punts Carlito in the guts. He signals for it but his back hurt so he can't get the Alabamaslam and Carlito counters into the Backstabber for the pin.
Winner: Carlito via pinfall. ½*. The psychology and selling was great but Carlito was in one of his slack phases on offence.
POST MATCH Santino cuts a promo about the belts being soon around their bellies. Cody asks him what "shut up or I'll belt you in the head with a microphone" is in Italian. Santino doesn't get it so takes a mic to the head and the tag champs get a measure of revenge.
SHILL – "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock, which is the official theme of Backlash.
BACKSTAGE Triple H gets a promo. He says all these promos are just a bunch of words but on Sunday that's what counts. 3 men will fall and one man emerges as the standard bearer, the best of the best, the WWE champion. He says that will be him. It's up to everyone else to prove him wrong.
KotR SF – CHRIS JERICHO v CM PUNK
Crowd seems in favour of Jericho. Not a lot of love for Punk down south. Jericho gets an early headlock. They run the legsweeps into quick fall attempts bit. Punk kicks Jericho's leg a little then gets a snapmare for 2. Jericho comes back as the crowd gets a half-hearted duelling chant going. Punk gets dumped on the ropes belly first. Only Punk lands on his thigh and headers it into the canvas. Punk goes for a springboard but Jericho dropkicks the ropes away. Backbreaker and Jericho holds on looking for a submission. No dice. PEPSI TWIST! Jericho comes back again with a rana into a near falls sequence, which leads to the Walls of Jericho but Punk gets a roll up out of that for 2. STEP KICK! Punk is out…for 2. Punk gets another nice counter into a snap powerslam for 2. This has picked up some! Punk wants the GTS but Jericho elbows out and hits the bulldog. LIONSAULT! Punk blocks it but Jericho is on his feet and gets the WALLS OF JERICHO! He's sitting RIGHT THE FUCK DOWN on that. Punk is fighting it and desperately pulls Jericho into the ropes. Crowd boos! They're Jerichoholics around here. Jericho stomps the lower back, which Punk is now favouring. Jericho goes up top but Punk catches him in the face with a flying kick. GO TO SLEEP! Jericho is OUT. Punk gets the pin and advances to the finals!
Winner: CM Punk via pinfall. ***. Started slow but had some nice reversals in it. The Lionsault screw-up stopped the match getting really good.
The Presidential Candidates speak: #2
Barack Obama is up next. He also name-drops Randy Orton and saying this isn't the only possible change. He stands for change in Washington and unity for the American people. "Do you smell what Barack is cooking?"
KotR SF – WILLIAM REGAL v FIT FINLAY
Finlay has a bad knee thanks to Khali's assault in the earlier match. Also Regal snuck in a cheap shot after the assault on Hornswoggle. No Hornswoggle here after Regal stretched him earlier. Finlay has his knee taped. Finlay takes a defensive approach. JR claims we have the United Kingdom and Ireland represented here. Wrong again, JR. Does anyone in the WWE actually know where Belfast is? Finlay nearly gets himself counted out as Regal rams his knee into the ring steps. Regal smells blood and ties the leg in the ropes to assault it. "Regal sucks" – South Carolina. Crowd is seriously on his case for being such a jerk tonight. Regal isn't messing around here as he's just booting that knee joint. Finlay retorts with some serious punches and a cheeky roll up of the ring post for 2. Finlay boosts Regal onto his shoulders but can't keep him there because his knee is so bad. They brawl like crazy in between major spots. Regal gets the REGAL STRETCH on Finlay's already injured leg. His eyes roll back in his head. He's out isn't he? Ref calls it.
Winner: William Regal via submission. **. I want a re-match. A long, long re-match where stiff striking is not only legal but mandatory.
The Presidential Candidates speak: #3
John McCain. He says the Mac has come back to South Carolina. He refers to himself "the man". Says it'll be "Game Over". He says they need to stay in Iraq and send the Undertaker over to find Osama bin Laden. He says wrestling is about celebrating freedom. He say you don't need a ticket to the cage match in November. Vote and you'll pick the winner for free. He took this more seriously than the other two and seemed to know his audience. Good work, sir.
BACKSTAGE John Cena says it's human nature to talk. He says he's listened to JBL but if he keeps talking he'll knock his teeth down his throat. He says H's believes Backlash is his time. He says Orton's grip is so tight it doesn't matter who gets in his way. Cena says he's sending a message to the other three. He says the match is anyone's ball game but they will have to go through Cena to get the title and he'll make them earn it. He's "locked, loaded and ready to bring down the thunder".
"BARACK OBAMA" v "HILLARY CLINTON"
Mrs Clinton comes out to Hogan's music. The "Bill Clinton" isn't bad. Hillary is way off. Bill has trouble getting into the ring and falls over. Crowd sort of boo her in disinterested fashion. Bill goofs around too much doing the Hulkamania posing so gets scolded by Hill-Rod. Crowd chants "Monica". Haha. More Hulkamania posing. Obama comes out to The Rock's music. He has the temerity to shake hands on his way out here but people are happy to even see an Obama impersonator with massive ears. Lowest common denominator. He does a great Rock impression on the turnbuckle. "Finally Barack has come back to South Carolina". BOO! This crowd is NOT happy. Bill is really good. Barack cuts him off with "it doesn't matter what you think". Lawler thinks this is hilarious. "Barack" delivers the "if you smell what Barack is cookin" with intensity. "Don't touch her, she doesn't even let me touch her. She hasn't had a man touch her in so many years it's not funny" – Bill makes the funnies when Hillary gets checked by the ref for foreign objects. Hillary slams Barack and legdrops him. Barack stalks her. Rock Bottom. Hey, that looked pretty good. He goes for the People's Elbow but Bill trips him. "I did not have illegal contact with that candidate" – Bill. He's owning this segment. Hire him. He's way better than the Clinton impersonator they had back when he was in power. This has gone about 3 minutes too long…UMAGA IS OUT HERE! Ref decides to bail and call this one a draw. Barack gets spiked. Bill introduces himself. "This is my wife Hillary". Umaga freaks Bill out who runs for the hills. HAHAHA. He made that segment. Samoan Drop for Hillary. At least we know Umaga's political viewpoint…he's a Republican.
Winner: no one.
POST MATCH JR plugs the primaries in Pennsylvania tomorrow. "Smackdown your vote". They thank the three candidates for speaking to the fans.
Divas
Maria, Kelly, Michelle McCool, Cherry, Ashley come out here. They talk about last week and Mickie James' win against the odds over Beth Phoenix. They introduce the new women's champion and out comes a really happy MICKIE JAMES. Group hug! Maria says they just wanted to say congratulations. Mickie says it means a lot to her and you should never quit. Everyone said Beth Phoenix was unstoppable but she beat her. She's interrupted by BETH PHOENIX and the heel divas dubbed "flying monkeys" by Lawler. Melina, Victoria, Jillian, Layla and Nattie. Beth calls this a pathetic love-fest. Beth says it's not a question of if she'll win it back but when. Mickie wants to fight right now. Beth calls the win a fluke and says these divas are inferior. Michelle belts Beth across the face for that. CATFIIIIIIIGHT! Where's Joey Styles to call that! The faces clean the ring out.
NEXT WEEK – Mr Kennedy returns.
King of the Ring final – WILLIAM REGAL v CM PUNK
Crowd has opposed both men all night, which is probably not a good sign. Punk is still selling the back from the Walls of Jericho. Remember Regal has a bye basically in the quarter finals. Crowd decides hating on Regal in the way forward and Punk helps his cause by repeatedly kicking Regal in the head, high knee and he goes for the bulldog but Regal HARDWAYS him into a back suplex for 2. POWER! Regal works on the back and stretches Punk on the mat. Punk turns out of it and goes to kicks again but Regal retorts. BRAWL! Regal is throwing heavy strikes to counter Punk's own heavy striking style. He's gained some weight lately and he's using it to increase the power on his strikes. Punk comes back with a few big roundhouse kicks and a spinning back hand. Another big roundhouse and Regal is down for 2. He tries for the GTS but Regal grabs the ropes making Punk use up his back injury. Regal gets out, kicks Punk in the head and goes for the REGAL STRETCH! IT'S ON! PUNK HAS NOWHERE TO GO! HE TAPS!
Winner & 2008 King of the Ring: William Regal. **3/4. Nifty striking but it could easily have gone another 5-10 minutes and really told a story behind that back so the crowd KNEW when the Regal Stretch went on it was over.
POST MATCH King Regal goes to sit on this throne.
SHILL – The Hardy Boyz DVD "Twist of Fate". Dunn has reviewed this already.
RANDY ORTON/JBL/CHAVO GUERRERO/EDGE v TRIPLE H/JOHN CENA/KANE/UNDERTAKER
Orton gets a live promo after his opponents had their chance pre-recorded. He says his actions do most of his talking. He points out all the shows he's retained his title on recently including the Royal Rumble & Wrestlemania 24. Entrances take up a good 10 minutes. Edge jumps Taker from behind to start. Taker lays him out with a flying clothesline. He stares out the heels and delivers Old School (odd how Edge reversed it repeatedly at Mania but not tonight). And after 10 minutes of entrances NOW we take an ad break. We return with Chavo pinning HHH for 2. Edge gets back in there and wants a spear. H's sees it coming and counters into a spinebuster. H's tags Cena in who cleans house on Edge. Flying shoulder. Protobomb. Edge can't see him. Chavo can and low bridges Cena out of the ring. JBL throws Cena back in and Orton gets a tag. JBL in with a Russian legsweep for 2. The heels are making tags very frequently. The faces…less so. Edge kicks Cena in the face for 2. Orton snuck in for the pin. Chinlock. Cena powers up despite that looking like a choke. Orton gets run into the buckles and a double clothesline leads to a doubledown. Chavo in but Kane gets a hot tag and he cleans house. Chavo takes a big backdrop. Sideslam. Flying clothesline gets 2. JBL saves as does Orton and everyone piles in for a brawl. Chavo counters Kane into a DDT. He goes up top but Kane catches him. Chokeslam. Edge runs in with the spear thanks to a blind tag and Edge pins Kane clean.
Winners: Heels via pinfall. **1/2. Good stuff. Way too much time on the entrances though.
POST MATCH FU for Edge. H's and Cena brawl. Lariat for H's. RKO for Cena. JBL & Orton argue so Taker chokeslams them both and celebrates alone to end the show.
End show. I'm very asleep here. I'm sure someone else will chip in their two cents on how good the show was. See you next week folks.
Tonight was definitely a mixed bag. We got a few good matches, and a whole lot
of garbage. This is certainly a better ratio than we usually get, but nowhere
near as good as the Raw after Wrestlemania.
Ah well.

I liked raw but I bet there going to be a lot of complaing about it
Posted By: Guest#3040 (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Talk about a total swerve. I would have never expected Regal to win the KoTR.
And tell me he didnt look completely wicked coming down to the ring against CM
Punk with his hair in his face and also all black gear. This could be a push
for our favorite wrestler from the UK.
Posted By: ECWFan (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:13 PM
sorry McCain, no more republicans in office.

REGAL! REGAL! YAY!
Posted By: ButchReedMark (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:18 PM
See people, you should wait to the end before bitching about the KOR being
predictable.
Posted By: Danny P (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:18 PM
does anybody else feel they pretty much handed the KOTR to Regal?
Posted By: dan (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:18 PM
yeah this was leaps and bounds above tna. king regal on the end of his career
makes no sense. i'd rather watch angle, joe, aj, rhino, cage, storm, curry man,
kong, roxxi, gail, angelina and just about everybody else any day.
Posted By: Guest#9899 (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:18 PM
i said it once I'll say it again. i like regal, but him...the king...makes NO
SENSE. Plain and simple, there is no argument why he should be, it is fact,
regal should not have won the KOTR.
Posted By: K.O.W. (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:19 PM
no wonder they never bothered to show the brackets for this tournament.
Posted By: matt (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:20 PM
I hope Regal came out to "baddass Regal music" and not "cheesy
Regal music".
Posted By: MichaelKeaton (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Chavo should have gotten the pin instead of Edge. He was the only one that
looks to have no chance on Sunday and in a way really looked like he didn't
belong out there
Posted By: nanoman (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:20 PM
CM Punk is shit and didn't deserve to win any of this shitty assed tournament.
Reagal is too fukin old to be winning this tournament anyway, especially when
we could have had a HHH return as king.
this is why the wwe is fukin doomed, and TNA is the best.
Posted By: Scrotum Pole (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Thank god I watch TNA over this pile of horse shit. People who bash TNA and
think that fake Obama vs. Clinton is entertaining are mindless sheep.
Posted By: Come join me. (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:21 PM
What a boring Raw. Unless they are seriously going to push Regal, it was a
waste of a tournament. The Clinton/Obama parody was a huge waste of time.
Posted By: Shuun (Registered) on April 21, 2008 at 11:24 PM
King Regal makes ALL the sense in the world. He doesn't have to step in the ring
again, he will be GOLD on the mic as the wicked King!
Posted By: Slick (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Can someone explain to me how Edge's slow motion tackle is supposed to hurt?
Posted By: D-Steak (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:30 PM
They should have held KOTR in May or June on Raw. Not having Kennedy was
stupid, lack of Jeff Harvey was noticable and no John Morrison was beyond
stupid.
Posted By: Patrick (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:31 PM
hillary vs. obama sucked hard balls!
Posted By: dog350yo (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:36 PM
So am I the only one who's actually glad Regal won? Of the participants, he is
the only one (barring MVP and possibly Jericho) who can really make the
"King" gimmick believable if that's where they're going with it
again. And as Regal showed today, he's still a better wrestler than 75% of the
roster.
Posted By: Matt (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:36 PM
I was stunned when Regal actually won. Punk must be a real bitch in the locker
room. He gets "punked" out a lot. I dont buy him as a viable
contender to anything.
Posted By: Chris Benoit (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:37 PM
If they are planning to use KOR to relauch Regal's single career and push him as
an upper midcard heel on RAW, it could work. Of course, this means that Regal
has to become a REGULAR singles wrestler who comes out of his semi-retirement,
not a figurehead heel GM who wrestles once every other month and usually does
the JOB when he does.
If they are actively pushing Regal as a wrestler 3 months from now and appoint
a new RAW GM, it will work. But if Regal remains the figurehead RAW GM who
rarely wrestles with McMahon/WWE Creative trying to "pretend the KOR
tournament never happened" (save a passing mention during Regal's JOBs)
then it was a COMPLETE WASTE of everyone's time.
Posted By: guest (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:38 PM
If y'all stopped naysaying, you'd appreciate what the tournament actually
accomplished. It gave the E an excuse to have a couple of great work-rate
matches, showcase CM Punk, put Jericho's finisher over again, and gave us REGAL
as fcking KOTR! If Punk won, he'd get shat on by fans for getting too much too
soon, and they're not ready to turn him heel yet. If anything, it looks like
Regal's gonna get a nice mini-push out of this; if his match against Orton was
any indication of where he's headed, we might just end up with a Finlay-like
rejuvenation for Regal. Raw needs another reliable in-ring worker anyway
Posted By: phil e buster (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:38 PM
that actually was the same clinton they used at wrestlemanias past
Posted By: tim (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:39 PM
wow you people are so negative...
for some odd reason i enjoyed the Obama-Hilary segment.... Bill ruled

"

I prefer to call it the running hug!

I'm definitely cool with King Regal. I'm also cool with my cable going out just
before the Obama-Clinton abortion started. Seriously, no joke whatsoever. So I
went with DVDs of The Wire instead. Sometimes, life is good.
Posted By: MP (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Miserable Cunts. If this means Regal Comes back, full time, with a quality
Ruthless gimmick, they've just made WWE telly about a million times better.
Posted By: ButchReedMark (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:40 PM
You guys are ridiculous. Everyone bitches and moans about how Regal gets buried,
he always jobs even though he's an awesome technical wrestler, he's just
enhancement talent and doesn't get his due...then he gets a huge win like this
and you bitch. I was surprised too, but it was a very pleasant surprise, and
for once, a booking swerve that I really liked.
Posted By: ICTimer (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:43 PM
"King Regal makes ALL the sense in the world. He doesn't have to step in
the ring
again, he will be GOLD on the mic as the wicked King!"
Absolutely, I would however, liked it if a young midcarder got it but Regal
should indeed be great 2 hear on the mic.
ME was surprising. I thought Chavo would have done the job but despite the
slight surprise Chavo should have made the pin. It would have made more sense.
TAKER OWNS! Don't care what any 1 thinks! SCREW ALL HATERS!
Posted By: THE GUY! (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:44 PM
I thought it was a ok RAW. Punk should of won KOTR though. Hillary vs O Bama
was better than Trump vs Rosie which I was there live for. I loved Bill saying
"She dont even let me touch her." lol
Posted By: CD (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Edge's manhug sucks!
Posted By: Official Manhugger (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Tonights show was a bit of a letdown. "Hillary" vs. "Obama"
was moronic and I say this as a lifelong fan of "sports
entertainment". It would've been stupid anyway but after getting the
real Hillary and Obama (and McCain) to send in videos it was even dumber.
KOTR was weak too. I'm not a big fan of Punk to begin with but who's idea was
it to put him against two infinitely more popular faces? Dumb booking
decision. Regal winning might be fun but it could suck hard too. I'll have to
see where it goes. I have absolutely no desire to see him wrestle as I think
he's one of the dullest in ring competitors ever, but backstage skits with him
in "king" mode could be gold.
I think Jericho should've won it to give him some momentum. MVP or Morrison
(who foolishly wasn't even in the tournament) would've been fine winners too.
Anyway best part of the show was Santino calling Cody Rhodes Bob Holly's
boyfriend. Santino is gold week after week.
Oh well, even a mediocre Raw still beats TNA 9 out of 10 times.
Posted By: Guest#7572 (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:50 PM
That Barack-Hillary segment was more entertaining than it had any right to be
nad that was soley because of Bill Clinton. My wife laughed her ass off for
five minutes after the fact.
Posted By: Johnny Kinard (Guest) on April 21, 2008 at 11:51 PM
By the way, if you don't have an official manhugging license you are not an
official manhugger. Dont believe the haters.

"Plain and simple, there is no argument why he should be, it is fact,

I love it when people judge angles based off ONE WEEK which didn't even set up
much of anything.

I think Regal winning the KOR made sense even with him as GM they coulud mold
him as a total dicatator who if pissed off will have you crushed. They can even
do a Lord Regal invades Smackdown and ECW giving a nice lenghty fued building
toward a RAW(Monster Heel) vs. Smackdown/ECW(Underdog Babyface) match at Savior
Series.

wow people love to complain. I mean am i the only one wo noticed how awsome
the psot match kotr finals was. No jump up celebration from regal, just an
ominous walk to dark music and a king slowly spreading out on his thrown,
ignoring everyone as beneath him.
Regal can be a great king, and the regal stretch got over big time as a
finisher to today's crowd. kudos.

The problem with the manhug is that Kane sells a spear about as good as he sells
a chokeslam. nothing against the big man, that's just the way he's built. Kane
would sell the gore (which is killer) about the same way i bet.
i enjoyed raw tonight, but even so i was dissapointed. it just didn't feel
special. it would've helped if they gave more time to the kotr and cut out, i
don't know, their snl's retarded brother schtick!
food for thought

Regal as King seemingly worked, made us want a Finlay and Regal match because
where finlay passed out.. he didnt give up.. so he should still have a chance..
have them fight over the kingdom at next big ppv *backlash might be too soon to
start*
i got to say though.. Regal Stretch got put WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over..
Posted By: Guest12678496 (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 12:34 AM
I haven't seen anyone mention how Regal's relatively easy win might be explained
by the fact that he's the GM, and therefore he could have set up the brackets
himself and planned everything out so that he would have the best chance.
Everything that happened with Khali, Finlay, and Hornswoggle would seem to
confirm that.
Posted By: c funk (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 12:40 AM
We got a lot of good matches and people are crapping on it since they weren't
better or because Regal won in a cheap manner.
Bill was funny during the Clinton/Obama segment.
Posted By: DANIEL BALDWIN (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 12:42 AM
The Clinton - Obama segment was awful and bad like the comedy thing they did on
FOX News awhile back with the canned laughter that tried to be the Daily Show.
Vince doesn't try to veil the fact he's for the GOP agenda one bit, probably
just for the tax breaks because all he cares about is $. Have they ever done a
segment to ridicule the worst President ever, "W"? No. Instead they
give us this and act like WWE is above the redneck southern base and are now
viewed by a broader audience yet Vince panders to this audience with his poorly
veiled politics. I hope a Democrat gets elected just so he loses his precious
little tax breaks and maybe his workers can even get healthcare to go with
their measly five figure salaries. Just compare the pay these guys make to
something like an NHL team does (it is very comparable)versus what Vince takes
in and it is disgusting how little take the workers get.

Where is all the damn celebrating. Everyone on this site rides Regal's dick, he
finally has a real main event style win, he is King of the Ring, and no super
celebration??? Ecspecially someone saying King Regal at the end of the career
makes no sense??? Fuckin Taker with the world title? Bitch and moan about
Regal not getting pushed, and now he does and it makes no sense?!?!?! There is
no way to make you fuckheads happy.

"Have they ever done a segment to ridicule the worst President ever,

Yes, they have. In Dec. 2006, at a RAW that I believe was in Washington, DC.

Bow Before Regal!
thank you WWE for not giving us King CMsnore!
& I can keep watchin being that i said i would destroy my TV if they
went the king of kings crapleH route!
houston, we have a problem... McCain is totally the next president. I
didn't even mind the obama-clinton fight, it was a bit too long, but way better
than the trump/rosie shitfest from last year + that Bill impersonator was
outstanding! it was better than a Snitsky squash or meaningless fight
anyway...
pretty good Raw, kinda, not really but we do have King Reagal ruling the
Kingdom of Raw now so that's a good thing!

Guys, the KOTR hasnt meant anything in years. Thats why they sandwiched it on a
RAW. Let Regal be king, like I said it means nothing

Regal totally deserved the victory for all his hard work for WWE over the years.
Literally kissing Vince's ass, wearing buxom wench drag, jobbing for years,
being a joke in England and laying down for anything in the ring in his home
country - all of it paid off when one of the best LEGIT wrestlers out there
took the crown. I was muttering "congratulations King Punk" as soon
as the graphic was up but man, was I happily shocked. Nobody outside of Chris
Jericho deserved this win more.
The Clinton impersonator was hilarious, match was an abortion - big shock.
Far as the politics go, McCain's got my vote simply because both the Democrats
are making a great job of ruining their reputations while McCain sits back and
relaxes for months watching them bicker and fight and argue and slander each
other. McCain deserves the win, period. And man did Ashley look hot tonight,
thank god I'm a dirty rocker boy!

Holy Shit! A freaking WRESTLER won the KOR! Bravo WWE! and all you CM Punk
haters, don't worry, WWE will put their stamp on him soon enough, then all you
haters will be on his Straight Edge Dick! Don't believe it? Well it happened
with Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero, Flair, Rey Mysterio, Finlay, etc.
Posted By: kurruption (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 01:38 AM

Posted By: Guest#4592 (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 02:05 AM
I felt that the MVP/Jericho match was very effortless on Jericho's part. It was
lethargic, Jericho didn't seem to have his head in it.
They dropped the ball by not having the Punk/Hardy, MVP/Jericho, Jericho/Punk,
Finlay/Regal, and Punk/Regal matches go longer.
They WASTED so much time on that stupid Obama/Clinton "Match", when
they could have had more wrestling.
But Regal winning was nice to see.
Posted By: Kirk (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 02:20 AM
someone said it earlier in this thread. Regal never has to get in the ring
again. I think he will he is a great wrestler who is not old as some have put
it. he is younger than hbk I believe. Anyway I look forward to evil king regal
mixing it up with Finley (ever see there awesome wcw matches. check youtube)
and punk among others. He does not need a championship to get over he can give
a rub up to so many and just give us some great stuff. fans will be dying to
see this pompous ass along with th equally pompous champ get there collective
asses kicked. which they will sometimes and other times not so much. think of
the YOUNG loyal subjects that will follow him blindly (DH Smith, burchill and
others). This is awesome stuff.
They also have gold with edge (vicky is annoying, which mqybe she is supposed to
be). The clean win makes him strong.
so all you crossover tna crazies. try to look at the big picture here. the wwe
is back and is setting us up (you know storytelling) for a FUN summer.
TNA has....uh..... joe and angle, an old guy with a baseball bat, an old
steroid freak,an old 7 ft ex wwe champ who can still be funny, an old wwe champ
and his wife and his spinaroonie, a not so super hero, a beer drinkin fish and a
lot of great women wrestlers (they do have that going for them). Vince
Russo, doublej and dixie whoever could learn something from tonight (they will
not) and what will be coming.
I am happy, as I have said in the past no matter how bad or good my
monday/tuesday/friday are I can always sit an be "entertained" I WAS
TONIGHT and with regal as the king I will again. YES Go Obama. can you smell la
la la la la........

between punk and hardy or punk and regal

Your logic makes no sense. The two are competing for the same spot and once
there is a winner McCain will be involved in a competitive race just the same
but guaranteed he'll be dredging up the same Swiftboat-type stuff as the Bush
did even though none of McCain's policies make sense. Do the homework and look
them up rather than base your vote off of the fact a guy is "sitting
back". Yeah, the guy in office is sitting back too and we are in a
recession, gas has tripled, and we are in a war that has no purpose behind it
yet we are locked in and can't get out.

The thing that I find funny is that if TNA put on the same show, with a host of
short undercard matches, a diva cat fight, and paid off the angle that they've
been hyping with the GM becoming King, people would shit all over it!
All I'm saying is hold all wrestling to the same standard.
Posted By: scipio2009 (Registered) on April 22, 2008 at 05:31 AM
Bow your heads common pig-dog swine and BOW BEFORE YOUR KING REGAL!
I knew Regal was going to win when Punk won his semifinal match. KotR and MitB
winner? Too much for one guy (unless you're Triple Heche). Sidenote, does Regal
think that Triple Heche is related to Ann Heche in some way? Because I do. It
explains a lot. Plus, Regal won because he had just as easy of a road to the
championship as KANSAS did! Personally, I think it would be awesome if he just
sat on that throne through every RAW, and if something didn't "please
him" he would clap his hands and old school English guards would come down
and take the displeasers away and throw them in a dungeon. Unfortunately, the
"Presidental Debate" was held too early for this concept. Plus, this
would put a quick end to anymore Jim Duggan and/or Snitsky matches.
And yes, they did put over the Regal Stretch HUGE. I call it now, King Regal
vs. Cena in a who's STF is better match!* (hint: it's the British guy's).
And was it just me, or did Cody Rhodes actually look competent on the stick
tonight?

Quick Stable Idea:
Name: High Society or The Royal Court
Members: "King" William Regal, "Prince" Santino Marella,
"Baron" Paul Burchill (w/ Katie Lea), "Duke" Drew McIntyre,
and of course, "Squire" Dave Taylor.
Also, is it just me, or does anyone else think KING UMAGA would have been
awesome?
Posted By: Evil Frenchman (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 05:57 AM
Screw the flaws in the show, King Regal overrides ANY badness. Awesome.
Posted By: T.G. Corke (Registered) on April 22, 2008 at 05:58 AM
Regals technical style means he can keep going in the ring despite his age. But
the fact is he is Raw GM and now his is KOTR he is in the perfect position to
make the most of the gimmick, especially given his standard gimmick leans him
towards the blue blood thing anyway. There is nothing wrong with pushing your
GM, if anything it shows that Vince doesn't feel he needs to come in and
dominate RAW for a while anyway.
The rest of the tournament was fine. The only thing I took exception to was
Hornswoggle even being in it. Sure it sold the Horny -vs- Regal rivalry and
maybe that is to build up something in the future, which I wouldn't object to
at all as they are both classics of British Wrestling. But it really doesn't
give credibility to the tournament to have a leprechaun in it. Lol.
The rest of the candidates were fine and overall it was a good RAW despite the
political gimmick match.

That had to be the worst KOR tornament. Why push Punk to have him Job against
Regal. The only people worth watching in the tornament wa the top bracket. No
wander ratings keep dropping. There should have been a tag tornament instead.
Or at least have competitors in the KOR that would be wroth wathching or who
are getting the push.
Posted By: Jay (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 08:24 AM
wow what a waste of a tournament...
i mean they could have had young up and comers like
morisson, miz, kennedy, burke and benjamin in that tournament instead of wasters
like hornswaggle, khali, finlay and the man that is the GM of RAW and doesnt need
to prove anything anymore regal.
WHY BOTHER? p.s. bill
clinton rules!!!!

Posted By: KING REGAL (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 08:58 AM
That was a really decent raw.
- Couple of really good matches.
- Punk got to showcase his stuff.
- Jericho is another step closer to his heel turn and got to reestablish the
liontamer. (and him landing feet first on punks face was gruesome)
- Regal as KOTR, makes all the sense in the world - whether everyone thinks a
"rookie" should of won or not.
-ME was a ClusterF but a fun one.
-They actually seem to care about the Tag and Womens division for a mimute.
- Barack/Hillary was better than it had any right to be. Barack had the rock
DOWN. I marked liked a little kid when he did the 360 before hitting the
Barack-bottom and kicked her arms in.
What more do people want? Seriously, yeah there was a dull moment or two - but
Hardy/Punk, Jericho/MVP, Regal/Finlay, Jericho/Punk, Regal/Punk, and the Main -
All Delievered!!
I'll tell ya, if the WWE had a RAW with a HBK/Hardy ladder match, HHH/Taker
HITC, Londrick/Hooliganz, and gave Regal/Finaly 30mins to stiff each other
people would STILL bitch!
There are nights when raw sucks and deserves all the hate - tonight is not one
of them.

I could not agree with TG and Evil Frenchman MORE! King Regal is going to be

the canidates speaches were beyond painful. they felt so forced and fake they
were hard to listen to, Barack was probably doing the best until the whole do
you smell what barack is cooking disaster. The impersonators were so bad they
were almost good until fake Hilary actually took two sick bumps and I died
laughing. Oh and Regal returning to his badass ways was fucking awsome.
And thats the bottom line, cause John McCain said so.
Posted By: stronelis (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 09:32 AM
Well said, David. Hillary has morphed into a conservative to counter Obama and
Obama is a socialist, plain and simple.
And anytime he gets asked serious questions about policy or "what would
you do if...", he stutters and has not a clue. And his wife hates
America.
Posted By: Patrick (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 09:36 AM
This show was a mixed bag like most are saying. I'm looking forward to Backlash
since my wife and I will be attending the show live this Sunday, but last
night's show was another exercise in some pointless things happening, such as
the Hilary/Obama suckfest, the KOTR tourney (I like the thought, but why bring
this back when it appears as though it's not going to mean anything in the long
run), and last but not least, why was this show 3 hours? I remember if Raw was 3
hours, it was for a special occasion, but if this show and the last 3 hour
special are any indication, the specialness has worn off. I don't like to be so
critical of the WWE because I've been a fan for almost 20 years, but sometimes
you just have to make your opinions known. The only things that stood out to me
were the performances of Jericho, MVP, CM Punk, the HBK/Batista segment, and the
main event. Overall, this was a fair show leading into Backlash. More of the
same, nothing outright bad but nothing truly groundbreaking as well.

Long live King Regal,
though I was hoping for King Burchill.
The tourney itself was a little unsatisfying match wise.
The Hilary impersonator reminded me of Molly Holly. That was a dead segment.

Wow, I'm as big a TNA mark as there is without being irrational, but wow, that's
a lot of hate for this show.
I absolutely, unequivocally love King Regal. As one guy already posted, I'd
love to see him watch the proceedings from his throne, then sic say, Burchill
on those that "do not amuse" the King.
You build up people like Burchhill around him as "If you want a piece of
the King, get through these guys first" and several people can get made at
once.
As for the matches, I was disappointed by match length, but they did cram in
some good spots. I hate that the entrances to the main event lasted longer
than the KOTR finals. That's inexcusable.
Other than that, it was far from horrible. Quite possibly, good.
All hail King Regal!

CM Punk is incredibly BORING. He's another Lance Storm if you ask me....he has
some talent, but just has no charisma. Thank GOD he didn't win KOTR. Regal
winning was obvious after Round 1. It's too bad the two toughest SOB's in
wrestling (Regal and Finlay) couldnt have had a better match in round 2, but
the storyline didn't dictate it.
There's just no pleasing some of you.........oh and by the way...anyone who
posts here praising TNA over WWE....is a moron !

Posted By: Guest#7440 (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 03:33 PM
The fake Bill was the funniest part of the Barack and Hillary segment, other
than that?
RAW was surprisingly solid, and better than some of the KotR in the past.
(Billy Gunn as King, anyone? Or, maybe Mable?) The guys showcased their
moves, and showed how over they were. I would have liked Matt to get past the
first round, but we can't get everything we want, and I'm still satisfied with
how it ended.
As for the main event? Poor Chavo. He looks like such the underdog against
Kane, with no real chance of winning.
Posted By: Torvald (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Hey, I'm sure the WWE wouldn't throw away a KotR for no reason. They surely have
a plan for Regal, whatever it is. We'll just have to wait and see.
Posted By: Guest#2130 (Guest) on April 22, 2008 at 03:54 PM
I don't think Punk is boring, but I also don't think he would've done a good job
working the King gimmick over the next few months or so, not at all. Regal is
obviously the perfect choice. King booker was highly entertaining, but the
potential for King Regal is just off-the-charts!

I was really happy that Regal won KOTR. Totally unexpected but totally deserved.
Hopefully he'll get a good push after this as King Regal has gold wrtiten all
over it. And if the other British wrestlers (Burchill, Taylor, Katie Lea,
McIntyre and possible DH Smith even though he's only half British) can get a
bit of a push out of it, even better.
I had one big problem with the show though, and it wasn't CLinton v Obama as
Bill saved that section. It was the promo for Kennedy's return. I groaned when
I saw that because now he'll be stinking up Raw every week again and since he
got a come back promo he'll be getting another completely undeserved push as
well. If they had to bring him back they should have just done it unanounced
with a quick clean job to Super Crazy on Heat.

better finisher.
I guess Regal is going to run with Booker's old gimmick.

I don't understand the decision to make Regal the King. I like that regal is
getting tv time and a push, but I don't think he needed it. I wish Regal and
Finlay had more time. The presidental crap was just horrid. I literally
stopped watching at that point. RAW became my secondary show to an ESPN Draft
Bust thing. I was really excited after the first two KOTR matches. But then
the WWE broke my heart. No more RAW for awhile for me.

I think the point of Obama Hilary was to BURY The Rock and Hogan above anything
else

Wow, I don't know how some people can have internet access and still be such
marks. Regal is too OLD to be king? In a shoot he would kick the living shit
out of all 108 people who have posted here combined. He'd make you little
haters cry like bitches, boyo. And I'd love to see him snap Cena's neck in an
"STF off". That bodybuilding, speedo-wearing chickenshit asshat; yeah
I watched My Life on 24/7 and it made me hate that punk even more, if that's
possible.

Did HBK get a free bowl of soup when he bought that flaming cowboy hat with his
initials on it. How do you spell gay?: H B K

Did anybody else see the sign that read: "Hillary, get the tables!"?
As far as the speeches went, Hillary's looked a bit phoney, buy pleasant. She
had a great line about the last man standing being a woman. Obama's
"speech" was great, except you could tell he was reading. McCain's
was awful. He had WAY too many wrestling references, was for the most part
rhetoric, and still tried to tie Iraq and terrorism together. Senator, it's not
working anymore. Last, but not least, when he said,"We watch wrestling to
celebrate our freedom." No we don't. We watch wrestling to see a midget
shoot a school teacher with a water gun. As far as Regal goes, they had better
not make him "wrestler of the week", because what he did just wasn't
that impressive.

Is anybody else sick of the "WHAT?" chant? Man this South Carolina
crowd was the worst kind of mark crowd. Sat on their hands most of the night
and popped for the same 3 guys (HHH, Cena, 'Taker). South Carolina you should
be ashamed.

Well, a few of us were celebrating rather hard. I posted my celebration several
times. Long live King "Worker, no botches, dependable, workhorse, not
overrated, please bring in ROBBIE FUCKING BROOKSIDE!"
Indeed.
