411's ECW on Sci-Fi Report 4.22.08
Posted by Michael Bauer on 04.22.2008

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

Mike Adamle at ringside with Tazz as they tell us The Cutting Edge will be on ECW tonight with special guest Kane.

Mixed Tag Match – Kelly Kelly and Tommy Dreamer vs. Layla and Mike Knox

We get clips from last week's switch from Dreamer to Colin against Mike Knox. All things considering, Tommy Dreamer won that battle. And now he teams with Kelly, so he wins again. The bell rings and the ladies start off with Layla clubbing Kelly and nailing her with a forearm. Kelly blocks being smashed in the corner and kicks Layla in the head. The men tagged in and Knox ducks too soon, so he gets kicked in the head. But Dreamer walks into a clothesline. Dreamer whipped into the corner, but Knox runs into the boot. Dreamer connects with a bulldog and the ladies get tagged in. Kelly connects with a dropkick. Kelly up top and she hits a high cross body. Mike Knox breaks the pinfall and Dreamer clotheslines him to the outside. Kelly drives for the Rocker Dropper, but Layla slips out and boots Kelly in the gut. Layla tries a suplex, but Kelly slips out and now gets the Rocker Dropper for the three count at 2:08. After the bell, Knox hits the ring and drills Dreamer with the corkscrew neckbreaker before taking his leave. Kelly checks on Dreamer as we go to a break.

Winners: Kelly Kelly and Tommy Dreamer

We come back to ECW and we go the videos of last night's presidential speeches. I agree that McCain was the most convincing and that he knew who he was talking to.

John Morrison (with The Miz) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (with Shannon Moore)

Miz joins the commentary team and says it is an honor to be there with Adamle. The bell rings and Morrison decks Yang with a back elbow after a go behind. Yang slips under the legs of Morrison and Jimmy connects with a hurricarana. Morrison gets dumped to the outside. Yang follows him out and back in, but avoids Morrison's cheap shot. Morrison off the ropes and he catches Yang's leap frog by one leg and drills him to the mat. Morrison works over the left leg but Yang flips him off. Yang fires with right hands and Morrison grabs the left leg. Yang hits the enziguri and Morrison goes into the corner. Yang charges and hits a monkey flip, with Morrison doing a 450. Damn, he got some slip in him. Yang gets shoved into the corner and Morrison runs into a back elbow. Yang goes up top and Morrison trips him up. Morrison tries for the split legged corkscrew moonsault, but Yang avoids it and heads back up top. Yang connects with the moonsault and gets the three count at 2:58 as The Miz can't believe it. The Miz is totally livid and gives Morrison some shit for it.

Winner: Jimmy Wang Yang

We go to the Raw Rebound with clips from Last Night's King of the Ring tournament. CM Punk was the best all night, but Regal won. What a load of crap, but of course, Regal is the GM, he should have given himself an easy road. We then run down the card for Backlash…

World Heavyweight Title – Edge vs. The Undertaker
Shawn Michaels vs. Batista – with Chris Jericho as the referee
WWE Title Elimination Match – John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. JBL
Big Show vs. The Great Khali
ECW Championship – Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero

Of course, we get no mention of the US Title Match or the recently announced 12 Diva Tag Team Match.

We then see Kofi warming up for his match with Shelton Benjamin. Shelton comes up from behind as surprises Kofi. Kofi remembers his days as a Golden Gopher and offers a handshake for the best man to win. Shelton laughs it off and says Kofi will be defeated tonight.

Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin

Adamle calls these two the best athletes on the ECW roster. So Morrison is chump change? The bell rings and Benjamin grounds Kofi with an arm bar. Kick up by Kofi and he hits a huge dropkick. Shelton with a headlock, bounced off the ropes, and he catches the leap frog. Shelton connects with a shoulder breaker of Kofi and goes to the arm bar. Kofi to his feet, but Shelton stops the momentum. Shelton misses a clothesline and Kofi hits a crossbody for a two count. Shelton with a dropping armbar on Kofi. Shelton charges Kofi and gets backdropped to the apron. Shelton drops the arm on the top rope and heads up top. Kofi catches Benjamin with a dropkick and gets a two count. Benjamin goes back to the arm and locks in an armbar. Kofi gets to the turnbuckle and tries a monkey flip, but Shelton lands on his feet. Shelton runs off the ropes and hits a huge shoulder block. Shelton lines up Kofi for a boot to the face, but Kofi ducks and hits the Trouble in Paradise kick in one move. Kofi gets the pin and three count at 3:52.

Winner: Kofi Kingston

We come back to more Raw highlights, this time of the bullshit known as the fake Hillary vs. the fake Obama. Bill Clinton was fucking gold though. So was Umaga. Though I admit, I laughed a lot more than I should.

Nunzio vs. Mark Henry

We get no entrance for either man as we join as the bell rings and Mark Henry throwing Nunzio around like a rag doll into the corner. Henry puts Nunzio on the second turnbuckle and the ref backs him off. Nunzio leaps into a bearhug and Henry hits the World's Strongest Slam. He delays for about ten seconds before finally doing the cover for an obvious three count at around 1:10.

Winner: Mark Henry

Backstage, Kane is in a glowing red light, just laughing.

The Cutting Edge – Special Guest: Kane
Edge comes out with his Rated Rmy for this interview. I guess he needs some backup after he pinned Kane last night on Raw. Edge says to not be alarmed, he really is on ECW and this is the Cutting Edge. Edge brings up that he beat his guest last night on Raw, that he will face Chavo this Sunday, and that he is the current ECW Champion, Kane. Kane makes his way out and it is pyro time. Edge sits down as Kane decided to just stand. Edge says that family is an important part of this business and that the Brothers of Destruction are the most dominant family in the WWE. Edge has a tough time saying that Kane and the Undertaker are champions. Edge says his parents must be proud. Kane says they are dead and if Edge ever mentions them again, Edge will be too. Edge says Kane's live sucks and he can trace it back to his family. Edge brings up his whole history in the WWE, from the mask, to the fire and the emotional scars, to his failed relationships, especially with Lita. Edge says Kane ruined his wedding day as the "slut" chants start. Edge then blames Kane for injuring him and says that it was a blessing because he met Vicky. Kane can't believe Edge is thanking him for that. Edge says that it has become a family with Chavo and that the family is not good because Kane and Taker stole the ECW and World Titles from the family. Edge says this Sunday, the family takes back what is theirs. Kane says they won't have the titles or a family, since Chavo will be destroyed. And if Bam gets in his way, Edge will never get to know him. And his brother will add three victims to the family tragedy. Meaning only Vickie will be left all by herself and they will take real good care of her. Kane then cheap shots Edge and bam comes out with Chavo to make it a five on one. Edge brings some chairs and tries to set up the con-chair-to on the mat. Chavo takes the second chair as Kane is spread eagled and takes his time to jaw jack. Chavo then stops before bashing the knee of Kane with the chair repeatedly in between the other chair. Edge and his "sons" leave, but Bam stays behind with Chavo and he slams the chair into the leg one more time. Kane is left down on the mat as Chavo joins the family we end the broadcast.

good ECW tonight

Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest)  on April 22, 2008 at 11:18 PM

Adamle and Tazz didn't mention it, but Kelly Kelly's finisher (according to a
recent interview with her) is called the K-2.

Hell of a show tonight, too. I liked how just the mention of Lita's name
recieved "slut chants".

Get Mike off my TV now. He has not improved. Tazz still had to carry his sorry
ass.

Who is Lita? John Cena RULZ! Who is Ricky Steamboat? I bet Mark Henry can
beat up anyone. John Cena RULZ!!!

So in Adamle speak Morrison and the Miz would be "tap team champs"? he
just tapped in? WTF!

Posted By: Brimstone34 (Guest)  on April 23, 2008 at 12:02 AM

So, speaking as someone who didn't catch the show...seriously? Only 10 minutes
of in-ring action?

Posted By: The Glide (Guest)  on April 23, 2008 at 12:17 AM

Kofi and Shelton getting only 4 minutes really sucks.

Posted By: Nick (Guest)  on April 23, 2008 at 01:24 AM

Mike Adamle is better than Styles was, and is a hundred times better than JR.

Posted By: Scrotum Pole (Guest)  on April 23, 2008 at 01:41 AM

Better than JR? I think they better start wellness tests in the comment section.

Who did Shelton piss off? He totally outwrestled Kofi in the ring, like everyone
expected, yet he still did the job. Beating an "undefeated" Kingston
would've been a good way to push Goldie but it didn't happen. Why?

Posted By: Mr. Perfect (Guest)  on April 23, 2008 at 02:30 AM

Perfect, you've completely missed the point. It's BECAUSE Shelton managed to
dominate the undefeated Kofi that he wasn't damaged by losing to him, and Kofi
remains over because he didn't lose his streak. Having Shelton basically squash
him would anger a whole lot of other people hoping Kofi's being pushed.

To continue the push of Kofi, perhaps? Y'know, the guy who can actually talk.

I can't believe there are people who still watch this rubbish.

Kane is getting really good at this...then again he always was good ,its just
that we werent watching closely

kane ecw champion?..he shud ve turned heel n sided with edge against the
undertaker on sd..just a thought..who needs the ex major brothers?..n wtf is
chavo doing facing kane ?..we all know and even chavo knows what kane will do
to him..its like a no chance..chavo shud b exclusively on ecw n battling people
like morrison n benjamin for his championship..just to promote ecw wwe has
really destroyed its storylines..who cares about the segments on ecw..wwe shud
be concentrating on one roster..one show..

I was cool to see Edge talking about Lita, i miss them being together.

Its funny how on the Raw 15th Anaversery show, Lita got a bigger pop than Trish
did (for real, Youtube that shit.) and now their calling her a slut again

go figure.

Here's a suggestion for the ECW commentating team. I think they should bring in
a special co-host for Taz each week. They could start with randon joe in
section F row DD seat 12 and it would be a million times better than Adamle.
Styles was, is, and will always be the best "wrestling" announcer in
the biz.

I'm glad Kofi got the win, perhaps it will get everyone off his back about not
caring.

Personally I would love to see Shelton take on Kane for the belt after Kane
defeats Chavo Sunday. That way, you can throw Kofi into the mix considering he
beat Shelton.

Good finishing segment. I admit I like what they are doing with ECW now, when
I used to hate their direction in the past. Let's hope they keep up with this
momentum.

Oh come on WWE, you couldn't be nice and gave Benjamin and Kofi time. Given
Kingston took on someone with minor credibility, you could have really made me
care for Kingston and cheer for Benjamin again like his match against Carlito.
WWE dropped the ball on that one.

On the other hand it makes sense to give them only 4 minutes but I really
wanted that to be the match the made me care about Kingston since I'm a big
Shelton fan
