411’s WWE Raw Report 04.28.08

411's Raw Report 04.28.2008

Santino Marella references the Goonies; that's all you need to know.

Here's what we have to look forward to this evening…

• Triple H won the WWE title last night. How will former champion Randy Orton react when the "King of Kings" goes back on his throne this evening?

• William Regal last week won the 2008 King of the Ring, which means he also gets to sit on a throne this evening as King William the Regal. His coronation ceremony will be tonight.

• Last night, Shawn Michaels put his body on the line and gave everything to finally silence Batista once and for all. Will HBK be well enough to make it to the ring after the heated battle? Will Batista have gotten the point and leave The Showstopper alone?

• Fully recovered from the Money in the Bank Match at WrestleMania XXIV, Mr. Kennedy will make his triumphant return to Raw.

• Backlash also saw The Glamazon get the win in the 12-Diva Tag-Team Match by pinning Ashley. Was this just a message to Michelle McCool and Women's Champion Mickie James? Will Beth Phoenix be aiming to get revenge on McCool for her slap last Monday, or will she focus on regaining the WWE Women's Championship?

We're in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Hosts are Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler making this the only brand that hasn't made an announcing change in the past couple of weeks.

CLIPS – We see last night's four-way match where JBL tapped to the STFU, Cena got punted out of the match by Randy Orton and HHH pinned Orton with the Pedigree to win the WWE title. His 12th world title since 1999.

PROMO TIME – Triple H. For those hoping H's would dump the ugly Cena-belt for the old style one…unlucky. He's still sporting the Cena belt minus the spinner that we've had for some time. Big "Triple H" chant. He says he has an announcement; the Age of Orton is dead. Big pop again. 8 months ago H's stood backstage ready to make his comeback after a year not knowing what would happen. He wasn't sure if he'd ever be the best again. 8 months later he's back in the same building and the Game is back. He's about to carry on when out comes RANDY ORTON. He looks upset despite being a part of 411Mania.com's exclusive live coverage of Raw. He tells H's he doesn't get a victory speech. Orton asks H's if he's proud of what he did? And how the odds were stacked against Orton. H's reminds him Orton said he was going to win last night and now he's a victim. Orton says he's a victim of his own success because he was too good to face anyone one on one. H's says he wouldn't face anyone one on one. The multiple person matches let him hide. Orton says it's because no one was on his level. Orton says in 3 weeks it's Judgment Day and he's using his re-match clause. H's says when he told people he was great he was telling the truth. Orton, not so. Another big "Triple H" chant. H's tells him to get the hell out of his ring because everyone's tired of hearing him. Orton refuses. H's nails him in the head with the mic. Orton gets pissed off and says he can't wait for Judgment Day. The Age of Orton has only just begun. He reminds H's his last title run didn't last 24 hours and neither will this one. Orton wants his re-match TONIGHT!

We return from the ad break and JR confirms the HHH v Orton match is signed for tonight.

Mickie James/Michelle McCool/Maria Kanellis/Ashley Massaro/Cherry/Kelly Kelly v Beth Phoenix/Victoria/Melina Perez/Natalya/Layla El/Jillian Hall

Re-match from Backlash. We start off with a huge brawl. Only Beth and Kelly are left in the ring and poor Kelly gets a right beating. She looks hot though, so she can solace in that. Kelly catches Victoria with a flying headscissors. Victoria knocks her back down and tags Melina. They double team her until Cherry runs in for the save. Michelle gets in a sneaky shot from the apron. Melina plants Kelly and forearms her in the face. Jillian in but she flips into Kelly's knees. Mickie gets the hot tag and cleans house. Mickiecanrana is blocked once but she takes Jillian down with it the second time. Layla cheap shots Mickie but she carries on outwrestling Jillian and gets the O'Connor Roll for the pin.

Winners: Babyfaces via pinfall. ¾*. Not as entertaining as the PPV match despite Mickie getting the duke.

JBL v Robbie McAllister w/Rory McAllister

Someone is getting punished for appearing on TNA. JBL puts the boots in and hits a back suplex. JBL with some meaty elbow drops. CLOTHESLINE FROM HECK!

Winner: JBL via squash. Regretting turning up on Impact yet?

POST MATCH JBL heads over to the commentary position. He says that should have been John Cena. He says Cena robbed him last night. He challenges the winner of the match tonight and threatens to destroy Cena in the process.

Paul London/Brian Kendrick v Lance Cade/Trevor Murdoch

Oh, we still have a tag division? Sweet. Cade starts by wailing on London. Both these teams have had their problems of late. London gets himself isolated very quickly and takes a beating off both heels. Crowd is restless after about 90 seconds. Impatient! London flips over Cade and gets a hot tag. Kendrick flies around hitting babyface basics at speed. Cade escapes Sliced Bread #2 by shoving Kendrick into Murdoch. Lariat to the back of the head. Murdoch tags in but gets caught in a roll up for the loss.

Winners: Londrick via pinfall. ½*. Murdoch is on a losing streak here.

POST MATCH Murdoch grabs the mic. He sings his promo, which gets booed because it's a country song. He sings about being a loser and being sorry about it. Some of the crowd applaud when he's done. Cade walks away.

CLIPS – Shawn Michaels superkicking Batista despite hurting his knee. Chris Jericho has him as a guest on the Highlight Reel this evening. JR goes on to mention the presidential candidates on Raw last week making the New York Times.

Paul Burchill w/Katie Lea v Super Crazy

Crazy doesn't get entrance music. Katie talks about William Regal granting their request to make this match 2 on 1. She's competing too. Crazy throws her off when she first attacks. Burchill dominates a little more and kneedrops him. Katie adds in some elbows and then kicks him in the face. Burchill whips Katie into the corner but she misses. Crazy with a messy headscissors on Burchill but the moonsault misses. Katie goes up top with a missile dropkick. Burchill finishes with the crappy version of the Curb Stomp and Katie gets the pin.

Winners: Burchill & Katie. A desperate attempt to get Burchill over. Not that they need to because he was already over as a pirate before they dumped the gimmick. This match sucked.

BACKSTAGE Todd Grisham has Randy Orton for an interview. He asks him if he's having second thoughts about taking his re-match tonight. "No" – Orton.

CORONATION OF THE KING OF THE RING

King William the Regal is already sitting on his throne. He has a mic. He says he won't relinquish his position as Raw GM. He earned both titles so he'll be keeping them both. He says he's the most powerful entity in the entire WWE. He says despite the crowd's xenophobia and jealousy they'll have no choice but to respect and fear him. He says he's our ruler, our better and your superior. He's interupted by MR KENNEDY…KENNEDY. He says he'd love to be the first guy to congratulate him on winning King of the Ring. He'd love to…but he just can't do that. He asks who the biggest superstar in the company was who didn't even get an invite? Who would have won if they had been invited? He wants to challenge Regal one on one to see who the real king is. Regal cuts off his MISTAAAAAAAAAH. "How dare you?" asks King William. No one talks to him without appointment. Regal demands an apology on the spot. Kennedy finishes his promo. MISSTAAAAAAAAAAAH KENNEDY…KENN WHAM! Regal socks him in the jaw and referees have to run down to break it up.

WWE REWIND – Santino & Carlito getting beaten up by Cody Rhodes & Bobcore. That's a tag title match at some point.

Santino Marella w/Carlito v Cody Rhodes w/Hardcore Holly

Marella gets a promo saying he doesn't like New Jersey and the fake Italian stereotypes with fake accents on the Sopranos. "Itsa makin' me crazy". Santino starts faster and gets Cody down early. He starts working the back withr forearms. Cody misses off the top with an attempted crossbody. Santino trips him up and hooks a chinlock. Santino with a kick to the back for 2. Camel clutch. JR says it's been a while since he saw one despite there being one on Backlash last night. Nevermind, eh? Cody powers up and drops back. He pulls out a quick dropkick but Santino avoids the bulldog. Cody had to push him into place for it though. Cody switches over the top and hits a DDT for the win.

Winner: Cody Rhodes via pinfall. ½*. Short but fast paced. The screw up with the bulldog hurt it a bit.

POST MATCH Cody makes fun but Carlito catches him with the Backstabber.

HIGHLIGHT REEL

Chris Jericho has a tuxedo for the Reel this evening. JR's memory plays up again as he says Jericho wore a ref's shirt for the first time at Backlash. He's been a special referee before. He has an award; "best actor in sports entertainment". The nominees; Don Muraco & Mr Fuji as hospital workers in Fuji General. Fuji is hilarious. Michael Cole for Deliverance part 2 when Heidenreich had him on Smackdown in 2004. The added banjo makes it even creepier if that was possible. And finally Shawn Michaels "for pretending to have a knee injury to beat Batista at Backlash". Jericho declares Shawn the winner as he continues to stir the pot. His cheesy grin is great. Shawn hobbles out here still favouring the left knee. Jericho golf claps the entrance. Jericho calls it "a masterpiece performance". He wants Shawn to accept the award and give a speech. Jericho tells him the façade is over. He did what he had to and it was a masterful performance. Jericho says "no one goes from pious preacher to backstabbing bastard" faster than HBK. He says if he was stood the other side of the podium Shawn would superkick him with his bad leg. "HBK" – crowd. Jericho says he doesn't have to say a word. He calls him the Daniel Day-Lewis of the WWE and leaves insisting they play Shawn's music. HAHA.

BACKSTAGE Santino says he's happy to see WWE divas with "junk in the trunks" but it's RODDY PIPER. "Roddy the Piper!" Santino makes fun saying he looks like Chunk from the Goonies and REQUESTS THE TRUFFLE SHUFFLE!!!! Piper slaps him. Roddy thinks he's "special".

WWE title – Triple H (c) v Randy Orton

Still 20 minutes left on the show as we start the main event. Not including overtime. Intense lock up to start. Ref has to get between them to break it up. Orton gets a big shoulderblock then the headlock. H's can't throw him off so he reverses it instead into his own headlock. Orton pulls the hair to set up the whip. H's clotheslines him for 2. Full arm drag and twist. Orton kicks his way out. Orton misses a charge though and posts his own shoulder. H's introduces that shoulder to the post again. "Thanks, we've already met". H's goes back to the arm ringer. Outside and H's uses the rail on Orton's arm. Going back in Orton punts H's in the face. OUCH! H's doesn't fall into the ring though but it does give Orton space to hit the DDT off the ropes as we hit the ad break. We return with Orton in charge. He's picking at H's with punches. Thankfully with his good arm. H's battles back in a slugfest but runs into a dropkick. Orton hooks up a chinlock. About 8 minutes left until the show is due to finish now. H's gets out and hooks a sleeper. Orton back suplexes out and gets with the Garvin Stomp. H's falls outside so Orton follows to beat him up some more. Back inside the pin gets 2. Back to the chinlock. Still in the chinlock. 4 minutes until the end of the hour. H's back suplexes out but runs right into a big boot. Orton stalks for the RKO. H's blocks it and shoves Orton into the buckle on his injured arm. Orton reverses an Irish whip with his bad arm. H's clotheslines him again but then runs right into a powerslam. Orton injured his arm again on that. H's with the high knee for 2. Orton retorts with the round the backbreaker. Time is up on this show. We're into the over run. Orton goes up top but gets crotched. H's superplexes him off for 2. Orton thumbs the eye. He wants the RKO again and again H's pushes him off. Pedigree is blocked into a catapult. H's meets turnbuckle face first. He catches Orton in the Crippler Crossface though. We cut to William Regal backstage for some reason. He says no one disrespects him so he orders the end of this match taken off the air. So we fade to black? I'm staring at a black screen here. JR & Lawler slowly fade away and that's the end of the show.

Winner: who the fuck knows? ** for the match that at least had sound psychology even if it was boring. Minus all the stars in the world for the booking.

The 411 – Jericho's promo was great. Santino's was funny too. Everything else was a waste of time. I can't even begin to explain why anyone thought that'd be an acceptable finish to a TV show. It's not like the match will conclude next week. And even if it did there's 17,000 people in attendance who know how it finished. Dumb.

That was the worst Raw ever.
The ending was stupid. Everyone that says TNA is lost has to agree that tonight
was bad.

WWE will blame the DVR for the low rating....

Triple H won...count it...

Posted By: y2j420 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:10 PM

Stop complaining. The Raw ending was great and Regal will come off as a HUGE
HEEL and a HUGE ASSHOLE next week. Also My guess is that the match ended soon
after

Regal killed the feed during the crossface. Get it??

Posted By: God Nightshade (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:10 PM

I like the ending! And it makes sense, since this is probably the match we are
headed for at the PPV, they don't want to give it all away.

Posted By: Westen (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:11 PM

I was honestly liking Raw tonight, but that finish was a completely terrible
idea. Whoever thought that would be good should be fired.

Posted By: JP (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:11 PM

It was a play on the last Sopranos episode. They was in New Jersey and mentioned
the show earlier in the night. I don't know if I hate it, at least it something
something different from the WWE.

Tonight's Raw was just...ugh. Yeah some good matches, but the ending pissed me
off.

Posted By: PJ (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:12 PM

Holy Crap! Your an idiot. I usually disdain anything WWE does, but tonight's
show was really good, with an excellent ending. Everything was done perfectly
for the push to new storylines. Best Raw in a long long time.

Posted By: X (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:12 PM

Raw has been pretty bad lately. But my expectations are still sky-high after the
brilliant post-WM Raw (Punk-Jericho; Orton-Matt Hardy; Flair ceremony).

Still, the ending was pretty creative and something different. Certainly better
than a predictable Cena or JBL run-in, or a clean HHH victory to solidify his
title win.

Posted By: Jason S (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:12 PM

How ridiculous was that ending??!! What a waste.

Posted By: andrefan (Registered)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:13 PM

That was a dumbass finish. As you said, does WWE not realize that 17, 000 people
WILL know what went down after it went off the air, and that at least one of
those fans is likely to post the result on the Internet? That finish eerily
reminded me of all of the dumb shit WCW used to do in its final years. It's a
shame, because it was a good Raw up until then.

Posted By: JJ (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:13 PM

who thinks c m punk cashed in the money in the bank tonight?

Posted By: Guest#8913 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:14 PM

The ending to this sounds amazing. A little WCW-ish, but with an actual reason
behind it (a powerhungry pissed off Regal). I think Regal is going to be HUGE
in the next year, and i can't wait.

Posted By: Brett (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:14 PM

I'm sure I'll be in the minority here, but I thought it was kind of cool that
they faded to black at the end. Obviously we all knew HHH was going to win, so
they did something different that will get people talking. They need to keep
thinking outside the box like this to "spice up" the show.

Posted By: Rocky (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:14 PM

OK I'm sorry. The ending was AWFUL! It's bad enough the match was slooow, but to
cut it off?! It's like walking out of a bad movie 2 minutes before the ending.
Actually, it's like being FORCED out of a bad movie before the ending. If Regal
was PO'ed at the fans IN THE ARENA, why did he punish the ones AT HOME?! Decent
RAW; awful ending.

Posted By: Sam (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:15 PM

What kinda crazy mess was that? The ending sucks!!!!! And people wonder why TNA
is so much better to watch.

Posted By: elpj3 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:15 PM

It was great! I loved how the ending both got Regal over like a punk-ass, and
it will drive thousands if not millions of hits to wwe.com.

So they cheated us on live, cable TV. That's what happens when a marketing
genius like Joey Styles gets put in charge of the website!!

Posted By: JT Allen (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:15 PM

where are all the tna haters now, russo couldn't dream of putting on a worse
show. At with tna, u get great wrestling AND ACTUAL ENDINGS TO MATCHES, i want
to see someone defend the wwe on this one. I've been watching a long time and i
like wwe but outside of kennedy's return this was horrible 0 out of 5 stars

Posted By: cj (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:16 PM

Okay, everyone in the WWE can stop using the Crossface now. Especially HHH.

Posted By: Steve307 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:16 PM

Seriously, that was the worst Raw ending I've ever seen.

Posted By: JJ (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:16 PM

boy way to piss off even more of your dwindling fan base.

Posted By: matt (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:16 PM

Um, it was the fans LIVE that booed Regal during the coronation. BUT hes
punishing the HOME viewers by making Raw go black. If he wanted to piss the
live crowd off, just have him call the match a draw.

With one hand he was cool with the Kennedy angle, then with this?

Im going to raw next week in Toronto and Im hoping it doesnt suck like tonight
did.

Posted By: Defies Logic (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:16 PM

What. The. Fuck.

Posted By: Guest#3014 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:17 PM

The opening promo time was horrible with the ending leaving a very ACKWARD
pause...

The diva match? Is there negative star ratings available?

Mr. TNA 2008 got squashed like a bug by JB"that's my finger in your
bunghole"L and then JBL cut a horrible promo.

Why was Murdoch singing Garth Brookes? Are we getting Jeff Jarrett 08 complete
with the big ol' lighted suit?

Burchill and Super Crazy - that match was liking two retards fighting over a
piece of chicken... and I am sorry that it's an insult to retards.

What would happen if we had Lord William Regal start out cutting a great promo
and had Mr. Kennedy come out - how bout the crowd sits on it's hands. Cuz
that's what they did. We got the dreaded "pull apart of doom" to show
how much hatred they have for each other. That was bad X a million.

Cody Rhodes? On the mic? Talking crap? I would rather watch Black Reign.

The Highlight Reel was too drawn out with references that the "new
school" fans wouldn't understand and even being an old school fan, it was
really lame.

The HHH vs. Orton rematch - it was going ok, wasn't going to save the
experience, but then that stupid ending. That was crap. Pure wet, stinky, crap.

I want my 2 hours back.
Wrestling right now is in a baddddddddd place.

Posted By: Lets see... (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:17 PM

I took a perverse sort of satisfaction from the ending, I just sat there for
sixty seconds chuckling and staring at Law and Order. But yeah, whoever booked
that should be fired.

Posted By: The Glide (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:17 PM

So are you guys ready for me to come back yet? I got some great "on a
pole" ideas for that Mr. Kennedy guy.

Posted By: Vince Russo (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:19 PM

Are you kidding me? The show was excellent. And I usually can't stand the crap
they throw at us. This show was well booked, pushing the new storylines and
feuds. The whole thing flowed perfectly. And the ending was perfect, showing
Regal's growing megalomania. For once, WWE got it right.

Posted By: X (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:19 PM

The first RAW ever featured a main event of Damien Demento and the Undertaker.
I've seen RAWs with main events featuring the Godwinns and the Smoking Gunns.
Duke Droese has also been in RAW main events. I've also seen Aldo Montoya get
ten minutes on a 60 minute RAW.

Worst ever? Not a chance.

Posted By: DG (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:19 PM

Wouldn't the bigger f*ck you be if Orton actually wins/won it back?

Posted By: ptrdvs (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:19 PM

As much as I was pissed at the end I loved it. If that makes any sense. Only
Vince has the Grapefruits to pull this crap and get away with it. I bet he's
laughing his ass off because TNA will try the same thing in the weeks to come
only to screw it up. I wonder what the ratings will be for the last quarter
hour. Damn you Vince but I loved it. No one ever saw that coming.

Posted By: NastyRud (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:19 PM

ZERO BUYS

Also, Nitro...exactly.

Posted By: MP (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:20 PM

Wha the fuck was that? As you said, does WWE not realize that there are 17,000
people in attendance, and with a little thing called the Internet, people are
bound to find out the conclusion? It's a live weekly show, it's not like they
can end mid-match and say, "Who will win? Stay tuned next week as the
battle comes to its conclusion on the next exciting episode of Monday Night
Raw!"*cue Dragon Ball Z theme song* I bet Vince Russo is having a coronary
because he didn't do this first.

Posted By: JJ (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:20 PM

How could McMahonagement even green light such a RE-GOD-DAMN-DICULOUS ending to
a major WWE title match? What purpose does it even serve? Promoting WWE mobile
alerts that NO ONE cares about? Pissing off the fans? Yes, we know HHH is not
jobbing, but I'm not even sure WCW Nitro EVER booked such an off-putting,
RE-GOD-DAMN-DICULOUS ending to a major title match.

Posted By: Guest#8022 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:21 PM

it might've pissed off a lot of people, but now Regal is looking like the King
Tyrant he is supposed to be. I say the Fade to Blackgate is acceptable,
depends on what happens next week.

What if it works for the sopranos it works the the WWE?

Hey William, I hate the things you do, hey William I hate you too, you're the

Regal is a fag.

that isn't brilliant marketing. if you constantly cheat the audience eventually
they're gonna stop caring and watching. shit was fucked up

I know I'm in the minority, but I liked the ending, it was a cool change of pace
and made me wonder where they're going with it. Obviously the follow up is key
as they need to have a good follow up next week, but I really like what they
did there as it was a break from the forumulaic same old and got people
talking. I don't want to see them ever do this again, but as a one time thing
I'm cool with it.

Posted By: Guest#0821 (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Wow "X" you are totally wrong.
The music cues were off badly all night. The cameras hung just a few seconds
too long. The promos had no flow, the crowd took a HUGE crap on Mr. Kennedy's
return.
That was a bad Raw. The end was on par with Aldo Montoya and the rest...
That shows you how much Vince thinks people will eat the crap he serves.. and
you know what, it'll do a 4 rating for sure just because it sucked so bad.

Posted By: No way (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:24 PM

I loved the ending. Everyone knew Trips was holding on to the belt, so might as
well try something creative to help out Regal's push.

For those who are WWE marks or liked tonight's RAW, I'm going to write it down
now...nothing you will type will convince me that it was a good ending. The
only thing I really liked was Santino/Highlight reel other than that the inring
stuff was boring.

And yes the ending did piss me off. To quote Sam, why would you punish the
people at home for those who pissed Regal off in the arena?

Anyway I hate to keep complaining on this site, but WWE really pissed me off
tonight

Posted By: Colin (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:26 PM

If your not down with the ending of Raw I got two words for you!! Watch TNA!!!

Lets get something straight - no matter how bad this episode of RAW was, the sad
fact is TNA are putting out equally poor shows and they actually have a lot more
talented wrestlers.

I'm gonna call that ending good simply because it was interesting. I mean, look
at how the message boards light up from people wondering whats going on. WWE
needs to do more unpredictable stuff just to keep the show from being too stale
(which it has been for some time). Anyone could see the non-ending JBL run in
crap that was coming. Plus. I didn't have to see Orton fumble his way around
the wrestling ring anymore (seriously, please fire this no talent hack. Who
gives a crap if TNA gets him?)

Boo for the country music and heidenreich rewind though (what happened to
trying to tone down the homosexual overtones in wrestling?)

The show was from New Jersey. Santino mentioned The Sopranos. How did the
Sopranos end? Fade to black. Come on guys!!!

Obviously some people on here will justify anything and everything the WWE does.
"Vince stole candy from a baby?" Well, he must have been really
hungry and needed that candy!

I can't believe that some of you think that show was good.
The guy that went point by point had it close. That show had NO flow, fast,
slow or otherwise.
The Diva match - I can't believe they see the TNA Knockouts and still try to
pass that crap off as women's wrestling. Victoria is welcome in TNA anytime.
And to the guy that thinks the ending was cool - doode you are so wrong. And
having HHH use the cross face was a really bad idea.
I can't even tell you how bad that was. I am just one guy, but I am not
watching anymore. It's been like 5 years since anything really got me excited
to see wrestling of the WWE variety.

I'm still pissed, but loving it even more as all the bashing begins. Seriously,
it was a great ending. It also served it's purpose, both onscreen and off, to
remind everyone who's in charge. Vince always warned us that he would end the
show and just when you think you know the answer, he changes the question! In
honor of The Hot Rod!

Thats why i like SMACKDOWN the best..the they dont do this stupid shit on there

Let's see...Bad promos (HHH/Orton), stupid skits featuring jobbers (country
song), wrong cues ("The mic is not on" handicap match), fading to
black during the main event and Roddy Piper. Yep, WCW Nitro.

Mr. Recapper: I disagree with your analysis of the Kennedy/Regal promo. That

As for the ending to Raw, it's really not THAT big of a deal, and will add more
heat to King Regal.

Welcome to WCW Nitro circa 1997. The sting -hogan starrcade 97 rematch. Same

to end raw. So fucking retarded!!! WWE trying to be the F'ing Soprponos(btw, the
ending of that show was the most shitty, cock eyed way to end a great show) I
think David Chase booked tonight's show. What A fucking Piece of shit! Ladies

"Only

only to screw it up."

And people thought that, after THAT ending, there was no way someone could make
fun of TNA...but there you go.

And honestly...you loved that ending? Vince could shit right in your mouth and
you'd be here telling us how great the new WWE chocolate is.

I can't believe that damn "spinner belt" is still alive. It is
absolutely disgraceful that Triple H did not trash that piece of crap belt and
usher in the post Cena era with the previous "undisputed" wwe
championship-which is probably one of the best looking belts of all time.
Vince, does wrestling tradition mean nothing anymore? Seriously, I'm no rapper
but aren't spinners not even cool anymore??? Brutal!

Also, how is one going to find out what happened?

Well, they'll have to go to WWE.com, by gawd. And who just took over the
creative side of the web site? Joey Styles.

If it was revealed that Styles came up with this whole thing, everyone who is
bitching would think differently.

That ending was not in "honor" of the Sopranos.
The Sopranos was great episodic tv that build and had characters with depth.
Raw has neither.
That was a chance to try to get website hits for wwe.com.
But on a scale of 1 - 10 that was like a minus 400.
You can put a monkey in a tuxedo and he is still gonna jerk off and throw his
own crap.
Vince McMahon is completely lost as a "creative genius" and he needs
to do something drastic or he will have gone from "billionaire" to
carny side show freak.

i have a feeling that orton wasnt playing ball tonight.he was offered on a plate

hard at points, you could tell hhh was trying to get orton to go with the
arranged ending but i think randy snapped and thats why they took it off air.
it had nothing to do with regal although it will get put on him

Awesome Awesome Awesome Ending to RAW. Straight out of UWF 1988 and hasn't been
done in 20 years. sure people will find out, but the casual fans will have to
go out of their way to find out either on WWE.com (if they post the finish
there) or on RAW next week. Those Agents are finally paying off.

i can't believe that some people say that this was a good ending, i said it once
and i'll say it again, had tna pulled this fade to black stuff, EVERYONE would
have been like this is crap, look at this russo finish, it goes both ways and
THIS WAS CRAP. Now the only important titles in the wwe are the world
heavyweight titles, so why fade to black in a match where your most important
title is on the line

We got a "HUGE SPOILER ALERT" earlier and it was the fact that Roddy
Piper was gonna be there. Well his 20 second cameo wasn't all that great and
that show was HORRIBLE.
The cues were off, the promos sucked, the crowd wasn't into it much at all, and
Vince McMahon is an idiot.
Whoever said Vince could shit in your mouth and you'd talk about how good the
new WWE choclate is, you are correct. The problem is that Vince believes his
own publicity. Vince McMahon is to WWE as Hulk Hogan is to life.

There was a sense from the first promo that there wasn't going to be a clean
ending to the match. It just didn't have that big match feel. The JBL segment
was lame. The womens match and stuff with Burchill were lame, and what was with
the Garth Brooks Karaoke night? That was bizarre. The Highlight Reel with Y2J
and HBK was cool though. It was cool seeing one of my old school favorites Don
Muraco again. I'm not a big HBK fan so when Y2J busted out that "pious
preacher to backstabbing bastard" line I marked out. I liked him leaving
HBK standing there, I thought HBK was gonna cry. Kennedy was cool tonight. He
got his point across. Got himself into a major program with the new King and
set up Regal to be a major heel. Regal looked like he was stiff with that
first shot. Kennedy had an abrasion on his forehead from the mic. And Santino
is money on the mic, but man Piper hasn't aged well. He looked bad tonight.
The final match just never had that big match feel, it looked like the type of
main event they would have at a house show in Topeka Kansas. It was turning
into a good match after starting slow, but Regal pulling the fade to black at
the end will help build him up as a major heel. Booker did a lot with the King
gimmick, he parlayed it into a Championship reign. I don't know if Regal can
do that much with it, but he'll definitely do more with it than Mabel.

i liked the kennedy face(?) return...
the HBK heel(?) hints & actually didn't mind HHH as champ as long as he
does the badass gimmick.
king regal is off to a good/interesting start. the tag team scene is still a
little off. santino & carlito need to go.
VKM is off TV so that 25 extra minutes for talent to shine and so far, not
great, but not bad

The ending was genious. Leaving both Triple H fans and Orton fans in a hype at
the same time giving Regal HUGE amount's of heat. WWE fans stay loyal. I
remember watching WWF'S weekly show when every week it cut the ending off and
you had to tune in the next week to see what happened. BTW if TNA did pull this
it WOULD have been less affective simply because they have a hard time pushing a
match where the finish mattered. This did remind me of WCW. The WCW that beat
WWF out weekly. Nice

Posted By: Tony (Guest)  on April 29, 2008 at 12:06 AM

"Welcome to WCW 1997"- Precisely, but that's not a bad thing at all.
Seasoned wrestling fans all know that storylines and characters recycle often.
Why not recycle (more than likely for one night only ON FREE TV) an item from
Nitro when it was on fire. WCW did this, and people tuned in. This was a simple
thing to do that keeps people interested in the product (The web is a nice chunk
of the product nowadays). Why give away the ending to a match that is certainly
PPV main event material. And if you really thought that WWE was going to give
away a 25 minute match (look at when the match started with possible overrun),
you don't understand the business aspect of the product. In 2 weeks, they have
turned Steven Regal from a minor character into the #2 heel on the company's
biggest show. When is the last time that has been pulled off successfully? This
was a great idea, and the huge number of comments to the review prove the point.

Posted By: SMS (Guest)  on April 29, 2008 at 12:06 AM

Hey Rod Oracheski, I bet you only been watching wrestling for the past 8 to 12
years, so here a little insight. Tonight's show served it's point, to piss off
you so-called fans who don't value what pro wrestling is. It's about storylines
as much as it's about wrestling! The show got you pissed and talking, it also
put over Regal as BEING IN CHARGE TO DO WHATEVER THE HELL HE WANTS, FROM
"FIXING" THE KING OF THE RING TO ENDING THE SHOW. And
"your" TNA will have a much worse IMPACT this week! Samoa Joe's 1st
IMPACT as champ = 1.0
HHH's RAW as Champ = 4.5 for his segment!

Why is it that the two top dogs in the company (Orton and Trips) can't have an
entertaining match outside a gimmick (LMS) match? Sound psychology is good, but
Orton needs to expand his moveset beyond what he uses. Trips needs to start
using more of his, so the storytelling isn't as dull when they go at it. All in
all, meh Raw. The Reel was okay and I like Regal getting a push, but
Kennedy/Regal could either be really good or really bad in a WWE ring.

That was awful and a stupid idea yeah that will bring the ratings up regal being

booking and what the hell was up with Murdoch singing freaking hell. Really did
Russo get rehired or something?

I really liked the ending!! For three reasons...

1 - It was a Sopranos ending.

2 - It will further Regal's reputation as the evil King/General Manager.

And if "Creative" is smart - - they will use:

3 - The show going off the air with Trips using a submission maneuver.

HINT - - How did Regal win all of his KOTR matches???

so tell me this, i just read in another column here that the match ended having
regal end the match, orton walk out, and triple h passing it off as a
double-cross, wcw never screwed the fans like that in it's prime, their matches
actually had ENDINGS and they would let you know what happened on WCW thunder.
they messed over their tv audience and the people that payed their hard earned
money to see this event and they are the ones who matter most

Everyone from Zack down is wrong wrong wrong.
You can't just do a "drop ending" like that.
It alienates your core audience and instead of making them WANT to see next
week (ala nWo days) it makes them pissed off.
The problem with doing those kinds of endings now as opposed to 10 years ago -
sites like this one. Within minutes we had a full report of what went down.
It's your core fans that build your casual audience through word of moutha and
excitment.
Piss them off and you shoot yourself in the foot.
The theory that it was a "tribute" to the Sopranos is completely
stupid.
Vince McMahon USED to be brilliant. But no one can pull it off for this long
and I think we are seeing the decline of Vincent Kennedy McMahon as head of the
WWE. Their style is old and tired, they don't know what they want to be anymore
and the brand split has done nothing.
If this was TNA you'd all be laughing at them and saying how bad it is - but
you suck at the teet of Mr. McMahon and you eat the "WWE Chocolate"
(whoever said it first should copyright it)

"Why are people so pissed at this, but they don't get pissed at a run-in,
DQ?"

You know what's strange about those finishes? THEY'RE ACTUALLY FINISHES.

If this wasn't a title match, maybe it's not such a big deal. But to take a
title shot - a rematch no less - off the air is just idiotic.

If TNA did this, people would be shitting a brick.

For the record "NastyRud" I've watched wrestling since the Stampede
Wrestling and Maple Leaf Wrestling days. I've seen run-ins, DQs, count-outs,
etc... What I haven't seen is a title match where they didn't show the ending
- until today.

Sending people away from the program pissed off at what they saw - that's fine.
That brings em back. Pissed off at what they didn't see? That's bad business.

To the people complaining about missed cues: Seriously, can you not just watch
wrestling and suspend your own disbelief for two hours? I watch wrestling to
be entertained, not to stress out over production errors. I stress about
enough things in my own life that I don't need to add the creative/production
woes of a low-brow form of entertainment to the list.

My logic for the ending:
1. It got all of you talking about it.
2. It will cause casual fans to go to WWE's (or 411's) website for the result.
3. It makes Regal look like a power mad authority figure.
4. Even though several of you apparently HATED the ending, I guaran-damn-tee
you that 98% of you will watch RAW next week (not to mention the RAW Recap on
ECW, and the inevitable mention on SmackDown) just to see where they're going
with this. And that's the bottom line. Literally. More viewers means more
money.

To whoever compared this to Hogan/Sting Starrcade '97: Really? I don't
consider the night after a PPV to be the climax of a storyline. Obviously
nothing was going to happen in the match that wasn't expected. Your comparison
is like comparing a fender-bender to a freeway pile-up. Ultimately, the ending
to tonight's show will have little to no effect on the course of WWE storylines
in the coming year.

And trust me, speaking as a guy who said he would stop watching ECW if Bobby
Lashley won the ECW title, and the guy who said he would boycott WWE the day
The Great Khali won ANY title--let alone a *world* title--you'll be back.

For the record, I watch WWE, TNA, I follow ROH, I own several DVDs from ROH and
other independent promotions, and am a devotee of NWA Central States Wrestling.

As someone who has only been forced to watch WWE since Vince bought WCW, I admit
that I haven't been watching RAW all that long. But there is no doubt in my
mind that this was by far the BEST episode of RAW I've ever seen. The posts
about the Sopranos tie-in, and the UWF reference were right on the money. By
now we know that Regal stopped the match for the live crowd as well.
Absolutely brilliant, and this from someone who has NEVER liked the

#4-No Cena or Vince(but plenty of HHH)
#5-Why wouldn't Vince stop Regal from fookin with his show? He went apeshit
when DX did it(kayfabe).
#6-At least HHH didn't win (again & again & again...etc.)
#7-Murdoch doing Garth was priceless & that's coming from somebody who
thinx country music is the work of the devil..
#8-Heidenreich is still creepy--"I like you,
Snitsky"--(Snitsky)"I like you too, Heidenreich"(heavy
breathing)
#9-Roddy the piper & his orchestra (in his belly)
#10-Did I mention Kennedy??

Major LOLs at people thinking Vince was trying to do a Sopranos like tribute.
The guy has no clue what Pirates of the Caribbean is, what makes you think he

I saw about the 1st 45 min of the show and the last 20. I was dying during
Murdoch's song. I'm not a fan of counrty, but when he started singing, I
couldn't stop laughing. It was really random, and he also didn't sound
horrible. If you listen towards the end, you can hear some of the audience
singing along.

I'm kind of 50-50 on the ending. It was kind of "WCW 2000-ish" but it
was different.

Reminds me of the old UWF shows. There'd be a main event going on you wanted to
see, only to hear Good old JR scream "Fans, we're outta time!" and
fade to black.

Of course, at that time, getting people into the arena was where the money was,
so that was a 'perk' of actually going, watching the finish.

Yes, 17,000 people may get on the internet and spoil the ending, but most
wrestling fans don't read wrestling news sites. Hell, when Wrestlemania was
here in Houston, people in line for the fan fest still thought some of this
stuff was real. The ending works as long as this is the only time it is used.

I was IN FACT there live tonight. Orton was in the crossface for a good minute
and a half...He reached the ropes, and then it went outside. They fought for a
few more minutes outside and then took it back in, HHH did the spinebuster and
was going for the Pedigree when Regal came out and stopped it. He said there
will be no ending for the match. He walked back, and Orton kinda walked away
yelling at Regal. Trips hung in the ring and raised the belt.

I got home and saw the whole thing with Regal in the truck..the live crowd
NEVER saw that...on TV, i saw it went to black during the crossface, which
makes the reason why Orton was in the crossface for sooo long.....so no
worries, viewers...the live crowd got no fiish either...haha.

Orton tried to walk out. Trips threw him back in the ring, beat him down,
Pedigree. Spread his arms and growled. Hit the music and pose. Officially, it's
a no contest, but ultimately, HHH finished with the upper hand.

"You know what's strange about those finishes? THEY'RE ACTUALLY
FINISHES."

No, they really aren't finishes. They are called non-finishes.

And I don't understand your logic about pissing off people with what they see
brings them back, but pissing them off with what they don't see wont. That
doesn't make sense. Do you have proof of that happening after a similar
incident? No you don't. Ratings have been dipping for weeks and this is the
kind of thing that gets people talking and gets people interested, kinda like
the Vince limo angle. Why don't we wait till next weeks ratings come in before
you act like you know exactly how this will play out? You have no clue.

Oh yea... Thatz called "Crash TV"... Thatz what Vince Russo was known
for back in the day. "Crash TV" is an ending that suppose to hook you
to the program the next week. But as disappointing as this RAW was, I think I'll
join that Monday Night Bowling league now..

Kennedy face turn sounds good to me!

Big deal that the show went off the air... it would have been a non-finish
anyway so what's the difference?!?!

I dont get some people. This is clearly a "wait and see next week if it was
bad or good".

Everyone was expecting something screwy in the end. No matter if it was a run
in, interference, clean finish or "cut to black" people would bitch
about it. And that is a FACT!

Look, you're all smart guys around here, explain something to me. What were
they trying to do with Murdoch there? Seriously. No bullshit, I'm honestly
confused. No setup. No aftermath. It'd be like after a match Snitsky sits
down next to Lawler and eats a sandwich and then leaves. Huh? I admit
it--this is over my head. So if someone could set me straight on this, I'd
appreciate it.

Of course, JR's comment "I can't say I have the best view" was pretty
good.

On a side note, I'm about the biggest Piper mark out there, but he looked
terrible. I sure hope his health issues are under control. I felt really sad
to see him like that.

I think the closest thing that WCW did similar to last night's Bullshit ending
was possibly Sting defeated Hulk Hogan and the nWo brought in a fucking sleazy
lawyer who ordered the destruction of the tape and threatened a ridiculous
lawsuit against the whole of WCW. Bischoff & said slimeball lawyer
demanded that the audience forget the match and denied it ever happened.

I LOVED that ending. Regal comes off as a brilliant tyrannical heel- it was
perfectly executed.

My thoughts on Raw:

1.Murdoch's singing was actually pretty damn good.

2.Orton and HHH's 20 year feud is beyond all hope of ever being entertaining.

3.Paul Burchill's new character sucks balls. He should just be a DAMN PIRATE!

4. Santino can work a pretty decent match when he sticks with his MMA type
offense.

5. How wicked was that shot that Regal hit Kennedy with? at last a fresh feud!

With ratings dropping each week they probably shouldn't screw over the few fans
still watching.

Did anybody else catch the irony that Santino was making fun of fake Italians
with fake accents and saying that New Jersey sucks, when he IS a fake Italian
FROM New Jersey? I got a chuckle. And what the hell is up with Cade/Murdoch?
Murdoch looks like he stole one of Edge's old ring jackets and cut the sleeves
off, and Cade seems to have stolen one of Hef's smoking jackets. I thought they
were supposed to be rednecks. And the ending of the show was a one-off thing.
Nitro did it all the time. Vince will do it once. Next week will be a different
stupid thing. But it gets Regal over as a bastard. Besides, everybody knew
Triple Haitch was winning.

shockingly bad Raw and thats the worst ending I can remember seeing in a long
time, the match was so boring that they could have only fixed it with a great
ending and they did the complete opposite, i really wish TNA could improve a
little bit and get a boost in their ratings so the E starts to actually have to
try to put on good shows, everything is just so stale at the moment.

The main event was so boring I bailed on it to watch the Daily Show. And I
didn't miss anything, did I? If only I had skipped the first hour and watched
the new episode of House. I won't make that mistake next week. If having no
ending is creative, next week why don't they not have a show at all? BTW, once
in the old ECW Taz ordered the cameras turned off because "the people at
home don't deserve to see this match". So before ripping on TNA for
future plagiarism, call out WWE for the same offense.
