411's WWE Raw Report 05.12.08
Posted by Daniel Wilcox on 05.12.2008
Two of Raw's most popular stars return!
Welcome to 411's Raw Report with me, Daniel Wilcox!
Raw starts now!
We get highlights of Triple H and Kennedy vs. ECW from last week, with Randy Orton hitting the RKO after the match.
We're live and the lights are out. Lights on and William Regal is in the ring. Lillian Garcia is there and sings "God Save The Queen!" Ha, I love it! Regal disapproves of the fans' disrespect. He's General Manager and King and could have them thrown out if he wants. He's not bluffing. He picks on a random couple and has them thrown out. Mickie James is here and says it's her brother and his girlfriend. "Regal sucks!" – Joe Louis arena. Regal threatens to throw Mickie out too. She pleads her case and he threatens to strip her… of her championship.
John Cena is in the house! He sends Mickie to the back and gets a mic. He's back and is usually ready to raise some hell but he wants to talk to Regal man-to-man. He understands. He knows what it's like to give your soul to these people and have them tell you "you suck". Regal points out Vince endorsed him but Cena points out Vince is insane and has "a bunch of sexual fantasies you can't even find on the internet." Cena reads out complaints from fans. "This is WCW Thunder bad." "I'm going to start a chant in every arena in the country saying "Fire Regal clap clap clap, fire Regal clap clap clap."" Glorious.
Regal says he won't turn out the lights tonight. He knows Cena wants revenge on Randy Orton, so the main event is Orton vs. Cena. Regal says if anyone gets involved in the match (like JBL) they will be suspended. Regal hopes he's earned some respect.
Cena stops him leaving and says he's not done. Cena points out we're in the USA tonight. Cena says even God cannot save Regal if he keeps messing up. We're in the Motor City and you got realize where we're at. Cena has Lillian sing "Respect" by Aretha Franklyn.
Tonight – Chris Jericho apologizes to Shawn Michaels.
Next – World Tag Team Championship – Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly vs. Carlito and Santino Marella
Rodney The Piper is here! He takes a seat at ringside.
World Tag Team Championship: Rhodes and Holly vs. Carlito and Santino
Holly and Marella start up. Knock down by Holly, followed up by the best dropkick in the business and a kick to the gut. He tries for an Alabama Slam but Carlito sneaks in and hit a swinging neckbreaker for 2. Carlito connects with loose right hands before tagging out. Shoulder thrusts by Santino. Holly comes back with a clothesline but Carlito tags in and gets taken out with a side suplex. Rhodes and Marella in and Cody hits a springboard reverse crossbody. Cody hits a snap powerslam for a near fall. A takedown gets 2 but Santino comes back. He goes up top but is distracted by Piper. Rhodes surprised Santino with a DDT and it's over.
Winners: Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly This was a rare tag match that had solid build and plenty of intrigue, but they blew it off in 4 minutes. It wasn't a bad match, but you can't have a good title match in that amount of time either. *
JR and King speculate whether or not Shawn Michaels was injured at Backlash and encourage the audience to text vote on it.
Mr. Kennedy is here. He says he has a big mouth but no one can shut it for him because he's Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Snitsky
Wow, this could be bad. Kennedy tries a kick to the thigh but when that doesn't work, they lock up, go to the corner and break. Kennedy comes off the top but gets caught and beat down in the corner. Scoop slam by Snitsky connects, as does an elbow drop for 1. Snitsky locks in a bear hug, which Kennedy fights out off, only to run into another one. He breaks it again and runs into a shoulder tackle. Snitsky misses a leg drop and Kennedy dodges a clothesline to take out the knee. Dropkick to the knee by Kennedy, followed up by the facewash in the corner. Chop block now by Kennedy gets a long 2 count. Snitsky pulls Kennedy into a clothesline. He tries for the pumphandle slam, Kennedy slides out of it, kicks the knee and hits the Mic Check for 3!
Winner: Mr. Kennedy Even though Snitsky got too much offence in for my liking, Kennedy looked good and most importantly, smart. A decent little showing for Kennedy in a match that could have been so much worse. *1/4
Tonight – John Cena vs. Randy Orton
Backstage, T-Grish is with Santino. Santino's going to hurt Piper. It's going to hurt worse than a coconut to the head.
Mickie James thanks John Cena. She says she's going out with her brother and his girlfriend after the show and asks Cena to tag along. He jokes around but eventually agrees. He says if you go out with him, it can get pretty wild. Mickie says she can do wild. She's in action next.
Melina and Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James and Maria
Maria and Melina lock up and Maria hits a gutbuster early. Mickie in and they work a double splits/leg sweep. Mickie gets a 2 that Beth breaks up. Mickie sends Melina into Phoenix but Melina gets a jack-knife roll-up for 2. Melina wants a tag, but Beth is upset and leaves. Mickie hits a neckbreaker on Melina for 3.
Winners: Maria and Mickie James Um, OK. They all looked hot, I guess. 3/4*
72% of fans think Shawn Michaels has been telling the truth about his knee injury.
Chris Jericho is here. He shows us footage of Michaels injuring his knee at Backlash against Batista. Jericho says he didn't buy it because he saw the look in Shawn's eyes at Backlash and has been telling everyone who will listen that Shawn's a fake. But last week, something happened that changed his mind. We see footage of last week's tag match. This time, he saw the pain on Shawn's face when he kicked John Morrison. He was wrong. He wants to tell Shawn he's sorry. Jericho would understand if Shawn wanted to call off their match at Judgment Day and says he should because Jericho doesn't want to face Shawn with a bad wheel. Shawn Michaels is out now, limping. Jericho won't let Michaels get a word in, so Shawn says he's not the one who needs to apologize. Shawn says for the first time in his career, he feigned an injury. He's not hurt. Jericho's not buying it. He thinks he's playing mind games. Shawn told everybody he would do whatever it takes to win, and Jericho was right; he's not hurt. Jericho says he's starting to insult his intelligence. Jericho knows that he's hurt and it doesn't matter what Shawn says, or what he does… SWEET CHIN MUSIC! "Trust me when I tell you; I'm not hurt."
"Take It All" by Zididada is the official Judgment Day theme song.
Jeff Hardy gets the biggest pop of the night so far! He's back. It feels good to be back. He never wanted to be a way, but he made a mistake and he paid for it. Now he's back, he has a lot of things to do. Like… his mic cuts off and William Regal is here. He says no one wants to hear him and he will be punished for his sins by facing this man…
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
Dropkick through the ropes is followed up by a plancha over the top and down goes Umaga. Thrust to the ribs of Jeff, followed up by Umaga launching him into the barricade. Back in and a hard Irish whip sends Jeff down. Massive uppercut by Umaga now. Umaga goes to the second rope and connects with a headbutt. Umaga beats Jeff down in the corner now and goes for the ASSALANCHE… but misses. WHISPER IN THE WIND~! It gets 3!
Winner: Jeff Hardy It was short, and very, very sweet. These two still have great chemistry. **1/4
Cryme Tyme vs. Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch
JTG and Cade start off. JTG slides out to hang with the fans. Back in and Cade knocks JTG down. Murdoch in and it's clubberin' time. Murdoch runs into a boot and in comes Shad. He runs Murdoch over with a shoulder tackle, slams him and hits an elbow. Cade in and knocked out again by Shad. JTG comes over the top with a sunset flip for 2 but runs into a boot. Cade in now and boots JTG in the face. Murdoch back in but runs into a back elbow. Murdoch counters another sunset flip and gets 3!
Winners: Cade and Murdoch >As has been the pattern tonight, nothing has time to get good. *
They hug in the ring and Cade has a mic. That's what he's talking about. Maybe Murdoch's singing has something to do with it. Murdoch sings their victory song. Cade nails Murdoch with a right hand! Murdoch is out. Cade leaves.
The SmackDown Rebound is Edge earning a title shot at Judgment Day in the Championship Chase.
Beth Phoenix thinks Melina cost her the title last week and tonight, she let her off easily. Melina attacks her, but Beth reverses and tosses Melina into some lockers. Referees pull Beth away.
Judgment Day;
Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho World Championship: Undertaker vs. Edge
JBL vs. John Cena WWE Championship, Steel Cage Match: Triple H vs. Randy Orton
And although it's not mentioned…
WWE Tag Team Championship: John Morrison and The Miz vs. CM Punk and Kane
T-Grish is with Randy Orton. Orton asks who was victorious at WrestleMania, and who stood over the unconscious body of Triple H last week? Triple H had a lucky night at Backlash whereas he had 6 months of dominance. John Cena will learn what Triple H already knows; that he is not just the most athletically gifted person in the WWE, he's also the smartest.
Randy Orton w/ Swank new music vs. John Cena If anyone interferes, they are suspended
They circle and stare down before eventually meeting in the middle of the ring. Cena forces Orton into the corner and Orton breaks but quickly applies a side headlock, takes Cena over, back up, and runs into a shoulder block. Rights now by Cena followed up by a bulldog for a brief 1 count. Cena hits a Fisherman's suplex for the first near fall of the match. Orton slows Cena down with a reverse elbow. Cena fights back with rights but falls victim to Orton's modified back breaker for 2. A big right hand sends Cena down again. Orton tries a stomp but it's blocked and Cena tosses Orton to the floor as we head to a commercial. We come back and Orton has a chinlock synched in. You're shocked. During the break, Orton hit a DDT. Cena powers out of the chinlock but gets caught in a snap powerslam for 2. Orton quickly goes back to the chinlock. Cena fights out again but gets taken down yet again by Orton. Ortion stalks Cena, looking for a RKJO, but Orton gets thrown off and Cena hits the throwback. Up top, and he connects with the top rope leg drop. Orton goes to the floor, and Mr. Regal has determined that we need a special guest referee… JBL. JBL has a referee's shirt, but Cena beats him out of the ring. Orton tries a sneak attack but he gets fought off. Cena tries for a FU, but JBL knocks Cena down and Orton gets a fast count win.
Winner: Randy Orton Good stuff; pretty much what we've come to expect from these two. ***
The heels team up, and business picks up as Triple H is here. He takes down JBL then heads off Orton. Cena tosses JBL to the floor and they pair off in the crowd. Orton is hammering The Game inside the ring and a cage is being lowered! Orton tries to toss The Game into the cage but he hits a spinebuster. Orton gets launched into the cage wall and he falls underneath because it's not attached. Triple H scales the cage and Orton backs off as we fade.

At the risk of sounding like I'm bashing the WWE, tonight seemd alot like Impact. Short matches with feuds/possible feuds with a solid main event.
Posted By: Colin (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:08 PM
Man, I want to buy Judgment Day. I'm drunk, but I wanna buy it so I guess they got me to do what they want me to do. Am I gonna want to watch HHH bury Orton or am I gonna wanna watch HBK kill Y2J. Fuck, I want them to have a 5 star match so I can be happy buying a 40 dollar PPV. Yea. That's all I got.
Posted By: Russonomics (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Fucking LOL. Way to completely BLOW Hardys return match. Also what the FUCK was that for Ortons new music? HORRIBLE

Judgement Day card needs fixing
Cena isn't facing JBL and HHH in one night
Posted By: SMRPG1 (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Thank God they're putting Hardy back on TV right away and not making him job.
Posted By: Kennedy (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:16 PM
How is HBK the face in the feud when he was lying about his injury this whole time while trying to draw sympathy as the gut it out warrior what the hell kind of payoff was that? Am I supposed to be going nuts for that crap?
Posted By: Say what? (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:17 PM
It was a pretty good show. Nothing was outright bad or insulting and that's all you can really ask for the week before a PPV. Obviously they aren't going to give us MOTYC's on TV the week before a PPV. I am kinda worried about the show Sunday though. While I think every match is going to be great so far, there are an awful lot of people being left off the show. Batista, Show, Kennedy, Regal, Matt, Jeff, MVP, Umaga, Finlay. None of these guys have anything going on.
Posted By: CJ (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:18 PM
Say What?, this is just a case of modern-day WWE crowds sucking. If this were the Attitude era or MSG, Philly, or Chicago, they'd rip on him and call him a faggot.
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:19 PM
Good show. Lots happened, Superstars returned, good stuff.

RAW Top Ten:
#1-Cena & Regal (I'm sorry-what happened? I fell asleep)

#3-Kennedy & Snitsky (YES!!! and the right man won!!!)
#4-a women's match with actual wrestlers?? and Beth Phoenix leaves? I guess I'd be scared of Maria too. (whoa)
#5-King:"I guess we should call you that-Mr. JR....JR!!! (Gold)
#6-Like I said last week, smarmy Y2J is king and 1/2 (I was right about HBK not being hurt-pay me) he should have said "I'm not hurt, but you are"
#7-Hardy's new music rox, but lose the hairdo (did Umaga get busted too?) at least he caught the W in the Wind this time.
#8-RIP Dervish (funeral is Tuesday)
#9-Gee-a PPV of all reruns-been a while since we've seen that- come on Mr. draft
#10-HHH came out to save Cena instead of Kennedy?? Whussupwiddat??? NO CONTINUITY FOR YOU!!!

Bonus-I don't think Rodney the Piper's doing coke anymore. Good for him now.
(I was going back & forth between this & the Red Wings playoff game. Damn ADD. Somebody stop me.)

I actually like Orton's new music. WWE always plays new theme music at sort of a low volume until they're sure it's good enough to get over. That's probably part of the problem. It sounds more appropriate for a babyface, but that's kind of the appeal of it - not unlike how Metallingus by AlterBridge works in it's own weird way for Edge.
Just give it a chance, for christ's sake.
Also, I'm predicting that Jeff Hardy and CM Punk will feud at some point before the end of the summer. At least that's what I'm hoping.
Posted By: BJC (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:22 PM
And that's something I've noticed: today's WWE crowds are killing wrestling. They don't have a clue who to cheer for. If a wrestler is a face for a long period of time now, they'll just mindlessly cheer for them no matter how heelish they are, and WWE can't properly turn people heel anymore.
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:24 PM
I agree with William. Orton's new music is total ass. They dropped Burn in My Light for THIS?
Posted By: Shaun (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:28 PM
I actually liked Ortons new song. I liked the song itself but it just didnt sound like an entrance theme or a theme for Orton. A good theme song has gotta have something that can be played at numerous occasions and will generate a pop weather heel or face. His new song doesnt really have that....BUMP.. that thing that hits that makes you pop whenever Orton comes out.
Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:28 PM
man did you see that part where Orton was supposed to be thrown into the cage and instead fell through could you have imagined something like that happening on Sunday by accident because they screwed up the lowering of the cage? Talk about a good time to mess up something like that to make sure you get it right on sunday.

with the exception of being able to spell your own name right better than half the time, i think this is the most correct you have ever been.
the WWE has to put the Attitude era 'everyone's a tweener' bullshit behind them and go back to easily definable face/heels. 'tweener' should completely redifined so as to foreshadow a characters turn.

Paul E, they gimmicked the cage so it could break...
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:35 PM
Am I the only one that noticed Umaga got screwed? That wasn't a three count.
Posted By: D-Steak (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Well, I D prefer tweeners since they're more realistic and three-dimensional , but what HBK did was blatantly heelish. He fakes a knee injury, denies Y2J's correct accusations, lies to 72% of the fanbase, and when he has Y2J fooled, Y2J apologizes for antagonizing him, and HBK superkicks him for no reason. It seemed like WWE wanted that to be a heel turn. But the crowd cheers. How do you cheer for that?
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Overall tonight was a good show. We had an okay tag match, Piper was there, the ME between HHH and Orton seems to be building nicely, a short diva's match.........not bad
Posted By: Dwayne (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Orton had one of the best theme songs ever, well he did. It's been my ringtone before and it will go back to being my ringtone so I can listen to it over and over. I also loved being reminded about how ugly midwest america is during god save the queen. Instead of quieting for the song or at least clapping for lillan's awesome singing. They boo, give thumbs down, and scream usa over and over. Class Detroit pure class.
Posted By: Amp (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:46 PM
And it seems like the victim of the attack now has to share is thoughts on it so the that the fans can get the message and say, "durr, I R supposed to boo him?" and basially break down simple logic for them. For example, in the HBK vs. Flair feud, they didn't react negatively to the Old Yeller comment until Ric Flair got pissed about it.

Great Raw, Hardy & Cena returned. Mickie, Cryme Tyme, Kennedy, & Umaga all in action. Plus Melina getting beat down, AWESOME.
Posted By: BxBaller (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:52 PM
i'm gonna throw this out there, orton's old theme song is possibly my least favorite song of all time. i didnt watch raw, but anything else has to be an improvement.
Posted By: Guest#4898 (Guest) on May 12, 2008 at 11:56 PM
I'm no where near what you'd call a Hardy Fan but the "E" made a smart business decision not to job out Hardy "maybe not a smart moral decision though". (In my estimation) but hey it's about making money. He just won't be any where near the WWE Title for a while... I'd suppose. Although, If it's true that they're bringing Umaga to SD! to face Taker for the World Title... Jobbing him out to Hardy every few months doesn't make him look very strong but that's just my opinion...
Ortons music is really BAD! "Burn in my Light" was a lot better.
"This just in: 72% of WWE fans are retards."
That's a little harsh... No it's not! HA! Can't say I'm surprised by the 72% either though..
PEACE!
Posted By: THE BOMB! (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:05 AM
I guess I'm in the minority here, I thought this show was boring.
The Cena promo at the start of the show lacked enthusiasm.
The tag matches were way too short.
The bit with the cage came across as very, very weak.
Now, I have a few questions:
I am assuming the IC title isn't on the line at Judgement Day. I haven't heard anything about it.
According to the recap the Cena/Orton match got three stars. That's what the main event at TNA's Sacrifice received. Do the staff have a different set of values hwne ranking matches at ppv vs television?
Are there really only five matches for this next ppv?
72% of WWE fans say polls are useless.
Posted By: RTF 101 (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:08 AM
Why do they keep sacrificing Umaga for this piece of shit?!?!? He should have been pinned by Snitsky for all i care, ugh.
Great stuff from Jericho... AS USUAL, now theres a man who deserves the title
Posted By: I hate Jeff Hardy (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:08 AM
Dammit they should have just fired Jeff.
Posted By: BAW (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:13 AM
Not a bad show by any means but alot of things felt like they were just there, no ones gonna get over anymore than they are already working 5 min. matches. Not happy they seem to be splitting one of the few actual Tag Teams
Posted By: Guest#6115 (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:14 AM
i loved raw.
it's always great. Cade is my favorite, glad he punched hi orange bodied, pale faced friend in the face.
tweener... "tweener"! that's fun to say.
Posted By: DungeonMasterMortis (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Is it just me , or is this ortons 3rd song (not counting the evolution theme) and it will probably be dropped for burn in my light next week. If you can recall, orton has had burn in my light since...2004? and for a while, i think it was 2006, he used cm punks music before it became cm punks...correct me if i am wrong on this. And...the music does not suck...it also does not sound better than burn in my light....
and oh......the HBK injury thing was confirmed a FAKE the moment they booked the y2j vs HBK match for judgement day... I mean come on....book a match with an injured guy? it doesnt make sense....and 72% still voted that they believe that the injury is real? I am an HBK fan but I myself noticed it was fake.
Posted By: deeno (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:24 AM
and what a way to build up the tag team division....break up one of the remaining "real teams" (teams that are not just randomly put together...like bobcore and cody...and carlito and santino)
thats just....BAD......

Shittiest RAW EVER
WTF With Kennedy ?
Where is HE GOING NOW ?
TWO WEEKS AGO he OWNED REGAL and they DON T MEET AT JD ?
NO PPV FOR KENNEDY ?
Hardy got suspended AND A HIGH PUSH AGAIN FOR IT ?
BULLSHIT !
Posted By: Monster Max (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:26 AM
I think smackdown will add a couple of matches to the PPV I doubt it will only be 5. Who knows they may do a segment with piper and Santino
Posted By: Paul (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 12:34 AM
Deeno yeah randy had cm punk's heme for just a week but burn in my light is the best theme song there in the wwe followed by metaliingus by alterbridge
rated rko rocks

At Judgment Day Mickie is defending the womens title in a triple threat against Beth and Melina
Posted By: John (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 01:19 AM
Orton's new music is awful. He had a great theme and now he is stuck with a generic crap one. I have to disagree with th *** rating for the main event. Like you mentioned about most of the matches on the show being too short, the Orton/Cena match suffered from that also. Way too meany rest holds for that short of a match, and far too little offense. I think those two do have great chemistry, but this was not the medium they needed. I also was pleased initially because I really thought they would reward their lack luster PPV build by having them give a good match. All of the wrestling on the show tonight is forgettable, but they delivered some good moments. Cade turning on Murdoch really made have heat towards Cade. Although they have never been portrayed as the most dominating team (sans their title run, where they didn't necessarily get much), I reacted because I genually like Murdoch. He is a really fun character. The Jericho/HBK turn really is why I am going to get the PPV, despite being disappointed by the company since the Flair retirement RAW. Finally, the Cena "focus" speech was brilliant and I would love to see Micky and Cena together. Overall it was a pretty bad show, but I guess it succeded in gaing 40$ from me.

Pretty much agree with natedogg, if I heard it on a random off shoot day when I was watching or doing nothing, I'd probably enjoy it. But as far as a theme goes, it's worse than Kennedy's current one. Seriously. He's right, you need entrance music with that BUMP that knows it's you. Punk has that with "This Fire Burns"...and Orton has that with "Burn In My Light". Oddly ironic that I compared the two themes there. But still, go back to his old theme and just keep it. If he turns face somehow, then you can think about changing it. Which is what I think they did with Kennedy.

RIP Melina we hardly knew thee.
And Orton's new music SUCKS!!!
Posted By: Guest#5231 (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 02:10 AM
I think the only way HBK could have made the crowd realize that he was turning heel would be pissing on the American flag.
Also, what is up with ortons new music is he supposed to be crazy? The song says something about voices in his head talking to him.
Posted By: J-R (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 02:16 AM
All those guys that say fire Hardy should definitely go fuck themselves. Go through yourselves through a table once a day, every day, for three years and then come back and tell me you wouldn't do some pot to take the sting out of it.
BUT OH NOEZ, HE'S A POTHEAD! BETTER TO CHEER A ROIDED-UP KNOW-NOTHING ASSHOLE LIKE BATISTA!
Posted By: Kennedy (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 02:22 AM
I know that Orton hated his old theme song, "Burn in my light." He did not feel it fit his new character now, so this fits his character now more than he last one.

Like you mentioned about most of the matches on the show being too short, the

Orton is one of the few guys who can work a headlock/resthold in the right way. Not always, but he doesn't just sit there and have it on and catch his breath with it. He works it, cranks it in, looks like he's actually trying to do damage with it. Go figure. Cena is always super pumped, super amped up in his matches. He gets a little wild and rambunctious. The way Orton countered that (multiple rest holds, simply dropping to the mat when Cena went for the flying shoulder tackle, rolling out of the ring after being hit with the... Throwback? Leg Drop to the back of the head? I forget which move it was) was just good psychology, if you looked hard enough and were actually paying attention to it.
I'm not saying you have to agree with the psychology, or like it, but it's there, so don't just brush it off as "way too many rest holds in a short match"
Also "And that's something I've noticed: today's WWE crowds are killing

I thought Cade's turn was well done. It came pretty out of nowhere. Although that may be towards WWE not always following up on their own angles (What happened to the weird dessention between London and Kendrick?) so when Cade told him to sing, and said it didn't matter what the fans wanted, I really thought he was happy that Murdoch pulled out of his slump. The punch came out of nowhere. Not to mention it was so freaking great to get so many angles of it, especially the slow motion one where you just see him connect straight on with his face. Just fantastic.
"The Cena promo at the start of the show lacked enthusiasm."
People always get on his case for being too over the top and unnaturally energetic, and now people are getting on his case for being calm and talking normally? How can you not like a segment that brings up WCW Thunder for a diss AND suggests a new chant for the crowd (Which hilariously just could not join together and say it all at the same time.)
"(teams that are not just randomly put together...like bobcore and cody..."
Maybe for some reason you weren't watching, but they weren't randomly put together. They had a series of matches that centered around Rhodes, being an upstart rookie, and trying to get respect from the veteran, Holly, And he got it
, obviously, seeing as they're tag champs.

I really liked Raw tonight. I've liked it for a while, to be honest. But tonight was just a great, great display of what WWE can do when they "know" their fanbase. Regal has been Mr. Heat for the last month, and so who do they bring out to interrupt him? Their biggest star that almost always gets a very, very big mixed reaction. When he came out, he got a virtually 100% face pop, pure and simple. Then Jeff, who is still in the crowds good graces, tries to cut a welcome back promo, and Regal interrupts him, thus getting Regal more over as a heel, making the crowd get behind Jeff. Then putting the heat on Umaga, through Regal sending him out to take out Jeff. It's good stuff, people.
I like ROH, so I guess that labels me with a huge "WORKRATE" sign on my forehead that is permanent, for life. But WWE has been doing a great job of Sports Entertainment, in my mind, and it's been really fun to watch. Not as enjoyable as ROH, and certainly not in the same ways that I enjoy ROH, but it's still darn good for what it is. Just like what Jericho said: wrestling is like an art canvas. You can't just have the one, major color (WWE); you need to have several different colors to change it up a bit. You don't have to like every color that's out there and used, but it's gotta be there. It's no fun with just the one color.
Wow, I feel pathetic. This is way too long just to join in on a comments/discussion section for wrestling... haha.

Unbelievable.
How many of you people talking about how awesome Randy Orton's "Burn in My Light" theme is were among the masses who said it was beyond horrible when he first started using it in 2004? Don't think I don't remember how widely reviled that song was at the time.
Typical IWC. Everything about WWE is bad until they change it, at which point the old way was great and the new way is bad.

But they SHOULD fire Hardy. He's nothing but a junkie, which is worse than what Batista is. You can moan about the roids all you want, but Jeff Hardy has been told all of his life to chuck what he does but he never will. He's a joke of a man.

Jeff's suspension has ended William, you are an idiot because they have been saying that for a few weeks here now, and I do agree that Orton's music SUCKS.
Posted By: Chris (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 07:13 AM
Also for Say What? Your comment about how is HBK supposed to be face, I agree. I said that right when it happend, but apparently the fans there didnt think like us. I mean it's not like the WWE told them all to cheer, I think it just has something to do with Y2J's recent heel like tactics honestly.

Remember the days of beer plastered WCW Stars??? Back when fans let their emotions be known with a toss of a beer bottle or cup of beer into the center of the ring. Man I loved seeing Hogan drenched in Missouri's Finest. We were fans back then. I am sure the word TWEENER didn't exist back then. Until I see beer bottles and cups of beer being tossed into the ring again.... Wrestling will never be the same.... VIVA LOS BEER TOSS!!!! By the way.. on a 5 Star rating system... I give Mickie James tits a 4 1/2 and Raw a 2.... Yay for DIVA TITTIES!!!

Something I thought you guys might find amusing- I was at the live event in Detroit and during the Cena/Orton match, when they wanted the crowd to cheer really loud they started lowering the cage a little bit and then stopped.
Posted By: Toni (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 08:14 AM
this is why you guys suck. a billion comments on orton's music? picky nerds. you should be focusing, once again, on the brilliance of shawn michaels.
michaels' promo had me baffled. i don't know what he was doing, and it makes me want to see where he's going with this. when every other story line is so predictable, leave it to the show stoppah to peek my interest.
shawn michaels is the MICHAEL JORDAN of professional wrestling.

Wow.... Raw was awful tonight. Maybe even worse then last week.
Can they please stop changing theme songs?
First it was Jeff Hardy then Mr. Kennedy, and now Orton? All 3 of their new songs suck.
Posted By: Kevin (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 08:50 AM
Am I the only one who noticed Jeff Hardy's new music too, or am I behind for some reason? Awfully short match. Way to squash the probable future of SmackDown!.

Forget turning off the lights or whatever they have Regal do. I will now stop watching because that damn troll is back.
Hey, does anyone smell smoke? Is that a blunt or someone's house on fire?

APG: "Typical IWC. Everything is bad."
Fixed. That about sums it up far better.
Posted By: Aname (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 09:15 AM
Shawn is at a stage where he will have to kill babies in order to turn heel--no one wants to boo him. Sure, he could get heel heat in Canada by making Hart jokes, but that's about it.
With Jericho, he plays a heel so well, the fans WANT to boo him...but in a good way. Not "go away" heat but "we love to hate your dickish ways" heat.
Shawn can play a great heel, so it's too bad he'd have such a hard time turning. Jericho plays a dynamite heel but he's probably one of the most bland faces ever...so leave him heel, I say.

To whomever posted part 1 and 2, I couldn't agree more. (except for the ROH part.)

So Cena basically admitted the company is willfully pissing off fans. Brilliant! I think the writers and Vince should be included in the wellness policy from now on. I'll be skipping Raw entirely until this nonsense is over.

there was alot of good things coming out of raw like jeff's return- this just in, he's ready to be in the title hunt, the crowd was cheering for him like this before the suspension. He has more ring talent than orton and cena put togethter. I don't care what anybody says, hardy is one best things going for the wwe. One of the top in-ring talents, although i didn't like the way the ref didn't let the match go on when umaga kicked out at the end. i'm sick of seeing the same ol' people in the title hunt. Let's see a kennedy or a hardy. What i want to know is how this regal heel turn thing is so big. Everyone said after he cut off the show, he's going off to face kennedy now, we have a ppv,no regal. I mean who cares about him, Regal is a GREAT wrestler but it's not like their bringing him to main event status. You're telling me the king of the ring is not going to wrestle a single match after he wins it. They really took away from HBK's victory against batista by having this fake injury angle, his victory now looks like a fluke. Now with that being said, the match i'm most looking forward to is jericho vs hbk, i hope they just let them wrestle with no distractions.
Posted By: cj (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Its funny you talk about Hardy and Kennedy and that they should be in the main event picture and that they have more talent than Cena and Orton. I disagree with that because Orton and Cena can both have GREAT matches with the right people and good matches with not the right people. Couple in the psychology Orton uses in his matches and neither Jeff or Kennedy can touch him. I dont know why, but I've never really understood the appeal of Kennedy.
The other point though, about being tired of having the same people in the title scene. Look at it this way. They could put Kennedy in the main event picture but how long would it be before he puts his foot in it again. Remember, he was supposed to be Vinces son. He was supposed to be in line for a major push and yet he messed it up because he was unreliable. Same as Hardy. He was having the push of the year and messed it up.
The reason right now that WWE doesnt feel the need to put new people in is a) they have no competition and b) Kennedy and Hardy have proven to be fairly unreliable and WWE needs their champs to be reliable.
When Cena was champion for over a year he was wrestling every week, making appearences everywhere, wrestling in any type of match (TLC, Cage, Street etc) and then would have to make further appearences. In short, the guy worked his ass of for that whole year and proves how reliable he could be. Jeff and Ken haven't proved that yet and the chances they;ve had to show it, they've messed it up and been taken off of TV.

I figured the whole point of Regal being King is what he said before. He can do what he wants, when he wants. He can wrestle when he wants to and can choose to wrestle who he wants. I did enjoy the singing of the English national antheme, although I would have prefered the Welsh one, bt only because I wanted to hear Lilian sing in Welsh. I like that even though Regal is injecting himself into the main event, he's also letting people who arent in the main event feel his wrath too.
People talk about the attitude era alot and how Russo sucks now, but one thing you have to agree on, with the attitude era, was that nearly every wrestler had a storyline. Ok, alot of them were crap, but they had something to do, as opposed to standing around and getting beat or buried. The IC title meant something, the tag titles meant something.
I hope Regal doesnt get promoted to main event status, just main heel, because that way he can contiue to mess with the whole show and give other wrestlers reasons for wanting him fired.
On a note that I know no one will agree with, I'd love to see Cena turn heel and form a stable with Killings and Cryme Time.

After watching this episode I think I did O.K. in ratings.

finally wwe knows what they are doing alot of impact great job

Jeff took quite a while to come from the back once his theme started playing. Perhaps he had to finish smoking his dog.

RAW was ok for what it was, I just have zero interest in the World title scene.
As for HBK, he is the ONLY reason RAW is worth watching. Think about the top 3 feuds in the WWE this year: Batista, Flair, Y2J, and what did they all have in common: they feuded with Shawn Micheals. He continues to bring the goodness, and hopefully he will get back in the World title scene after Judgment Day.
Think about it, he could finish up his business with Cena, going against JBL will be gold for the comments alone, and he could be just the person to turn HHH heel.
Cade turning on Murdoch? It may weaken the tag team scene but hopefully he will be injected into the IC title scene.
Don't be surprised by Hardy winning off the bat. He could take enough drugs to fill a pharmacy and he will still get pushed because he moves merchandise.
Posted By: Orlando (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 11:18 AM
yes, fire Hardy, the guy that sells more merch and gets the biggest pop of the NIGHT...yep, get rid of that guy...what a waste....you guys are fucking stupid...whoever heard of TWO strikes and you're out?? He's got one more chance, and hopefully with what he heard tonight, people still love him and forgive him...hopefully that can help him turn it all around
Posted By: Erik (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 11:19 AM
All right...I'm gonna go out on a limb, perhaps WAY out on a limb, and say that William Regal has been pushed SO well over the past few weeks, that McMahon may even, PERHAPS, be eyeballing him for the WWE Championship.
Consider: Regal can still go in the ring, in some cases better than men several years his junior. Regal's KOR win and subsequent coronation leapfrogged him over Randy Orton (who's taking time off, probably after Judgment Day) as the #1 heel on Raw. Triple H is currently a face champion, and they have both recent and ancient history with each other.
And let's not forget CM Punk, who Regal beat for KOR, who's still lurking, and still babysitting that Money in the Bank briefcase...
To put it in perspective, I'd say Regal as WWE Champion is at least as plausible, if not more, as JBL was for WWE Champion four years ago. And look what happened there.
Book it.

anyone else notice the look, mickie shot at cena when his music hit. it was the ultimate please fuck the shit out of me look, god i wish she would look at me like that

Jeff Hardy has had his new music for months
Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 01:03 PM
Did anyone else notice that the screen went black for about ten seconds after the backstage segment with Mickie James and John Cena? It seemed like Cena was cut off after Mickie James walked away and he was still talking, then it went to black.
Posted By: Chico (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Orton tries to toss The Game into the cage but he hits a spinebuster.
---------------------
You make it sound like Orton hit a spinebuster.

Let's see, opening segment, so so. Mickie James lookin hot as allways. John Cena, yeah yeah same ol same ol. Tag Team champtionship match? Love how JR tried desperately to convince the fans that cody and holly were going to lose their belts. Kennedy, he's going the face route so just make him one already. Santino: Michael J Fox isnt going back in time to be a werewolf. LOL I love this guy's promos. HBK, ummm ok you act like you were injured when we all know you werent. Then you fess up to it fianlly? OK moving right along. Jeff Hardy, Glad he's back, though I just see him in mid card IC title contention. Btw did you notice that Umaga had his shoulder up before the 3 count yet the ref counted it anyway? Hmm a possible hidden highlight? Cade turns on Murdoch, I dont find this as surprising as much as how he did it nailing him in the face with that punch. Yeah I'll admit I felt that too. Definate face turn for Murdoch and now he has a singing gimmick? Could be just what the ol boy needs. Melina gets owned by the Glamazon backstage. Possible face turn for Melina? Who knows. Cena and Orton, yeah your typical match though I love how regal makes JBL a special ref to mess with Cena. Regal's getting great heat as a tyranical dictator of RAW. Much better heel than Eric Bischoff when he ran the show. Triple H looks good at the end nuff said. Decent show overall though the HBK/Jericho segment was just plain silly. Hurry up and take Umaga to smackdown he needs it bad. Not that enthused to order Judgent Day. Oh well there's allways The Night of Champions around the corner.
Posted By: King Of Kings (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Wow brad you rip everyone for talking about Ortons music while talking about the brilliance of the HBK angle? I thought that was a horrible angle and made no sense as they portrayed HBK as the face the whole segment and oh yeah it wasn't just the crowd that loved it JR and Lawler loved what HBK did painting him as the good guy. That was just a terrible angle sorry it doesn't make any sense.
Posted By: say what? (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 03:10 PM
Whatever WWE, Vince McMahon, Orton,Cena, JBL, Jericho etc, etc, etc, so forth, so on, et al, does will somehow be "wrong" and never satisfy everyone.
Posted By: Chico (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 03:42 PM
When Regal told Jeff Hardy he had to face Umaga, my first thought was, "You mean the guy he's beat twice, once for the Intercontinental Title?" I spell it out so it can still have meaning SOMEwhere. "Mr. JR...JR" Gold by the King. Jr topped him later when Cryme Time came out. "Jim Ross with mah dawg, Jerry the King Lawler." Hearing JR say "Mah Dawg" is probably the best thing ever. I was laughin pretty good at the Beth/Melina bit. The promos sucked, but the ass whoopin was classic. I don't think Melina's feet touched the floor when Beth was bouncing her head off a locker. "Micheal J Fox is not going back in time to become a werewolf." Santino rules. On the mic. Anybody else catch the JR called Cade/Murdoch THREE time tag champs? Won from somebody, I can't remeber who, lost to Hardys
