411's WWE Raw Report 05.26.08
Posted by Daniel Wilcox on 05.26.2008
A Chris Jericho/Shawn Michaels rematch highlights a stellar edition of Raw. Oh, and there's something about a $1,000,000 giveaway too.
We get some America stuff for Memorial day.
Raw starts now! Pyro~!
Vince McMahon is on the tron. Last week, Regal got what he deserved. But are we getting what we deserve? We deserve the action, the excitement and the drama. And we deserve appreciation. And he will show us appreciation. He has an idea. He wants ideas from our Superstars too. Before the show is over, he will show us appreciation even if it means he has to do something that's never been done before in the history of the WWE.
Face Off~!
John Travolta and Nicolas Cage are here. Alternatively, Triple H is out. Shortly followed by Randy Orton. We've got the whole red carpet and podiums deal going on and JR and King put over the pair's Last Man Standing match from last October. Orton's new theme is actually a really good fit and for those that are still asking, it's called Voices and it's by Rev Theory, WWE's new favourite band (they did the Mania and One Night Stand theme and Ashley has appeared in one of their videos). I don't know whether it's the new music or the lack of championship gold, but Orton's posing again and I approve. T-Grish asks Orton what makes him think he can beat The Game on Sunday. Orton says that's typical. Why is it that people always downplay he is accomplishments. Fair counterpoint, Randall. How come no one can just say "Orton has beaten everyone there is to beat"? Sunday, the joke is over and the laughing will stop. Triple H says these people laugh at him because he's a… I don't know, they blanked it out. But Trips knows how good Orton is, more than Orton does. That's knowledge. That's why Orton always looks for the cheap way out. Every time he said how great he was, he looked like he was trying to convince himself. He sees Orton as a scared little boy in a man's world. If you want to be the best, you have to thrive on competition and you have to rise on the occasion. Orton wants a break. "You do not thrive on competition, Triple H." Someone becomes a threat, you either bring him close and make him your friend or you eliminate them. He uses Shawn Michaels as an example. He says Shawn can beat Triple H so Triple H keeps him close. Orton brings up Evolution now and it still could be, but Orton became the youngest champ in history and became a threat, so he tried to take Orton out. Trips says when Orton was in Evolution, all he and Ric did was make Orton realize he's potential. But once he got in the ocean, the sharks were his to deal with. When it comes to the WWE Championship… every man for himself. Trips says he's never going to walk away and it's the law of the jungle. Orton says at One Night Stand, he will prove once again that he is better than The Game. Triple H is pathetic and it'll e hard to say he's the best when Orton beats the hell out of him. They're nose to nose now and Orton will beat him until he can't get up and until Orton is the last man standing. Orton goes to leave. Trips has the mic and asks if that's it. He says the last word will happen this Sunday. It won't be spoken but it will be loud and clear. Either the Age of Orton continues or it'll be like the last seven months were all for nothing. At Last Man Standing, he will beat Orton within an inch of his life in the ring and leave him lying and walk to the back and when he does, the Age of Orton won't just be dead, it'll be like it never even existed. The Game leaves and they stare down.
That was some really intense stuff from these two and got me quite hyped for their match. I'll go as far as saying that that is one of the best promos of the year so far, though probably not topping some of the Flair/Michaels ones.
At One Night Stand it'll be Beth Phoenix vs. Melina in an I Quit Match! Really? Wow.
Jillian Hall vs. Melina
Jillian says Melina has no chance at One Night Stand. Jillian spears Melina and hits some rights. Melina gets caught with a kick and Jillian sends her into the corner and nails a handspring elbow and a neckbreaker. We get some hair-pulling now and a slam. Jillian chokes Melina in the ropes but Melina comes back with forearms and a quick 2 count. Jillian cuts her off but Melina comes back with a dropkick and a kick in the corner. Hair mare now, but Jillian kicks her in the head. Melina elbows out of a fireman's carry and rolls into a leg grapevine submission and Jillian taps.
Winner: Melina
Beth Phoenix stares Melina down from ringside.
Really? A Women's I Quit match? It could be fun but how much time will they get? That will be key I feel. This match was pretty sloppy, but Melina's very over as a face and has a decent new finisher. *
In the back, Vince wants to hear Chris Jericho's idea. Chris suggests a Michaels/Jericho rematch tonight I Raw. Yes please! Vince makes the match! Jericho tells Vince his theme song needs some updated and gives it a rock edge. Cryme Tyme are here now. Hilarity ensues. They take away Regal's pictures for an auction, auction, yeah, yeah…
Brian Kendrick and Paul London vs. Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly
London and Rhodes start, lock-up, take over by Rhodes into a headlock. London eats a dropkick but tags out and Rhodes gets double-teamed. Kendrick gets a crucifix roll-up for 2 and Kendrick goes hard into the turnbuckles now. Holy in and it's clubbering time. Kendrick fights back with forearms but runs into a clothesline that gets a 2 count. Rhodes comes off the top across the arm and then goes for a reverse bear hug. Gotta love that psychology. Kendrick elbows out but the Sliced Bread is countered, but Kendrick avoids a crossbody. Hot tag both sides and London knocks Holly down with a pair of dropkicks and gets a standing head scissors. London gets caught but sunset flips Holly for 2. A heel kick gets 2 more. Kendrick and Rhodes get dumped, London skins the cat but gets caught with the Alabama Slam for 3!
Winners: Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly
Ted DiBiase is here! He congratulates them but their days as champs are numbered. He brings out his son, Ted DiBiase. Wow, he looks more like an Orton. Ever since he was a kid, he wanted to become a champion. He says he will become a champion too because everybody's got a price, but he is simply priceless. I like it. But, doesn't he need a tag partner?
The match was throwaway – they had a better one on Heat this week. But the post-match angle has potential and looks to help out the tag division, so I am very much in favour. *
We get a video package of Cousin Sal getting some training from Rodney the Piper. Piper hits the shit out of him. "Yeah, I can see how this hurts." Jimmy Kimmel is here. Piper clubs Sal. Kimmel calls out moves that aren't really moves while Piper beats on Sal. Actually, it's quite funny stuff. Sal wants a nap, so Piper throws the sleeper on him. Sal is out, so Jimmy draws on him with marker and they go get something to eat.
Mickie James is with Vince. They talk ideas. JBL interrupts. JBL discredit's her idea of sending to Divas to schools because it's like an escort service. JBL wants to give away merchandise – specifically cuttings of the One Night Stand mat with Cena's blood on it. Apparently, Cena is not Mickie's boyfriend.
Some troops send messages to their family and stuff.
John Cena and Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga and JBL
Cena and JBL start… until JBL tags Umaga. They slug it out and Cena goes for an early FU but Umaga elbows out of it. Umaga hits some measured strikes and Cena is groggy early. Crowd is very much pro-Cena. Cena avoids a charge but gets caught with Umaga's wind-up urange, which gets 2 as we head to break. Back from the break Cena gets a hot tag and fires off on Umaga. The Twist of Fate is countered but Hardy avoids a charge but gets shoved to the floor from the top rope. JBL takes advantage on the floor. That's how he likes it. Back in and Umaga hits a big splash for 2. JBL in now and he puts a beating on Jeff with clubbing blows and knees to the gut. JBL sends Hardy into the corner with velocity and then applies an abdominal stretch, complete with random leg bending. Hardy makes it to the ropes as JBL lets go of the hold. Boot to the head now by JBL and that's followed up by an elbow drop for 2. Jeff fights back and hits the Whisper in the Wind out of nowhere! The ref starts a count up but Jeff makes a tag. Clothesline to JBL… protobomb! Umaga takes a shot. You can't see me! Five Knuckle Shuffle connects! Umaga nails Cena from behind and Jeff got a blind tag. He misses the Swanton and eats a Clothesline From Hell for 3!
Winners – Umaga and JBL
That was a lot of fun. The ending was abrupt but they did a lot with the time and it was enjoyable. **1/2
In the back, Shawn Michaels doesn't see Vince doing anything decent. Vince wants to show his appreciation. And at the end of the night, even Shawn will have to give the Devil his due. They're really hyping this one, huh? It's going to have to be huge to not be a let down at this point.
The Denver Broncos are in the house.
We get clips of Raw in Mexico.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Carlito
Lock up and break. They talk trash and Carlito goes low. Carlito misses his springboard elbow but counters a Mic Check early and hits a swinging neckbreaker for 2. Carlito works Kennedy over by choking him in the ropes, hitting a snapmare and working a neck vice. Kennedy works his way to his feet but gets tossed down and covered for 2. Kennedy comes back with a roundhouse kick and a clothesline. Green Bay Plunge connects and gets a near fall. Facewash now by Kennedy is countered into a snap powerslam. Carlito wants the Backstabber but Kennedy avoids it, charges into a back eblow, but hits the Mic Check out of nowhere for the win!
Winner: Mr. Kennedy
Katie Lea Burchill is here. She's great. She is not amused by what happened to Regal last week, and now Kennedy has an enemy. Paul Burchill strikes from behind and hits a neckbreaker. Burchill says Regal was a great man. Alright mate, he's not dead. Burchill finishes him off with a Curb Stomp.
Once again, the match was sloppy but the post-match angle was good stuff. I approve. *
This announcement is being billed as "epic" as opposed to "major." Color me excited, but outside of a new GM or the Draft, I don't see what else it could be.
Trevor Murdoch sings Vince's theme song to McMahon. Vince doesn't like it, but tells Murdoch to get everyone out into the arena after the next match.
Lawler and Ross hype One Night Stand.
Stretcher Match – Shawn Michaels vs. Batista
TLC Match – Edge vs. Undertaker
First Blood – JBL vs. John Cena
Falls Count Anywhere – Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
Last Man Standing – Triple H vs. Randy Orton
We get highlights of the Last Man Standing match between The Game and Orton from last year as well as Backlash.
We get Memorial Day shout outs.
Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels
I wait 5 years for a rematch, and then two come along at once. Go figure. Can Jericho get a win anytime soon, please? They circle and go into a collar and elbow tie-up. They work a couple of counterholds and side headlock takeovers and stand off to cheers for both men. Michaels goes to the arm but Jericho counters and gains control of Shawn's limb and wrenches it. Shawn gets a hip toss now but runs into a hard elbow from Jericho and that's going to sting. Jericho tries a springboard dropkick to the apron but Shawn avoids it and Jericho crashes and burns on the floor as we go to break. Back from the break, and Jericho has Shawn in a chinlock with a half nelson. Shawn elbows his way to separation and hits some chops, blocks a hip toss and catches Jericho with a backslide for 2. Both men up and Jericho hits a step-up enzuigiri for 2. Into the corner now and Jericho gets a couple of shoulder thrusts and the referee is all over Jericho here. Y2J chokes HBK out with a boot in the corner. Shawn counters Jericho's version of a bulldog by forcing him into the turnbuckles. Inverted atomic drop now by Shawn, followed up the flying forearm… KIP UP! Jericho catches and tires for the Walls but Shawn counters to a small package for 2. Both up and Jericho levels Shawn with a clothesline, but the Lionsault misses. Shawn up top… elbow drop misses! Jericho is poised and wants the Codebreaker I think, but Shawn blocks it by holding on to the top. The band is tuning up ever so slightly, Jericho ducks the kick and there's the WALLS OF JERICHO! It's locked in and Shawn crawls towards the ropes… and he has it. Jericho eventually breaks the hold. He puts the boots to Shawn and gets pulled away by the ref… Shawn feigns a kick and Jericho dodges it, and kicks Shawn out to the floor. Jericho locks the WALLS OF JERICHO in on the floor! The ref is counts both men out and that's bull.
Double Count-Out
Jericho continues the assault on the floor and reapplies the Walls. Jericho has a chair and wants to hit Michaels with it… but doesn't. Jericho offers a hand to pull Shawn up and Shawn takes it eventually. Jericho throws the chair down and walks away.
OK, so the ending wasn't ideal as the count was way too fast, but the story-telling was once again, terrific and this whole Flair/Michaels/Batista/Jericho saga has been great and tonight's instalment is no exception. Who really knows where they're going with this next? Great stuff all round, and the match was another fun one. ***1/2
Vince McMahon's Major Epic Announcement
This has to be huge. As Vince ordered, the entire roster is on the ramp way with no exceptions. Maybe Vince will announce that he is changing his music after all. Vince says he said he had an idea to show his appreciation for everyone here and everyone all over the world who watches Raw. He thinks we deserve new Superstars, new Divas, and new rivalries. In 4 weeks, there'll be a draft! But that's not all… it'll take a week to figure out the details, but it's all about the money. He says that each and every week, he will give away cash money… he wants to give away $1,000,000 every week. This is not a hoax. Each week, he will give away cash money… $1,000,000.
That's it? Really?
This show was going great, and while I'm glad to see the return of the Draft, I couldn't give a damn about this money giveaway. Whatever, Vince.

BORING!

What a lousy show.
Posted By: hobo_bebop (Registered) on May 26, 2008 at 11:08 PM
It's hard to get too excited about money that I'm never, ever going to win. Only a mark would think that's possible, so I guess this is a smart move since they're the only ones left watching. Not gonna pop the ratings or buyrates though. I quit watching for a month, and it looks safe to quit watching for another two months!

Tune in next week for the $1Million Dollar Giveaway...aka "WATCH MY DAMN SHOW PLEASE!!!!"

Epic announcement? More like EPIC FAIL.
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Some possible good stuff in the future, but that is what people throught post WM Raw and it hasn't been all that great overall since.
If the women's match at ONS gets good time (aka more than 5-8 minutes) it might be really good. They just need to let the workers, especially the divas who can wrestle, have more freedom out there.
The HBK/Jericho thing is about the only really interesting thing right now they got. Shame the story had to take a front seat to the somewhat meh match tonight. A longer, more exciting match beyond the closing moments and the good storytelling aftermath would have been a lot better than story over in ring stuff.

Huge announcement = major anticlimax.

I forgot to add, Vince must be so desperate to give away cash. Maybe he needs to start listening to the smarter fans who watch wrestling outside WWE and TNA and stop panhandling to marks who are happy with mediocore "solid" wrestling and storylines and pushes that might have promise but go nowhere.
Posted By: Unknown1 (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:12 PM
I'm sure that if they DO give away a million bucks, I'm sure it'll be payable over 50 years or have a shitload taken out of it for taxes, or be a million dollars worth of wampum, or something lame like that.
Posted By: Cosmo (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:13 PM
Hate to agree with MP, but this is truly sad. Sadder than Vince hiring Donnie Wahlberg to make a WrestleMania appearance because the male demo that watches WWF just loved The New Kids!
I understand MP's frustration. Do you know anybody that actually won a lottery or a big contest like this? Likely not. Closest I've come is a co-worker's roommate won some prizes on The Price Is Right. Guaranteed this entire contest is a PR ploy. The only money changing hands is "shut up" money to WWE employees to keep the ruse going.
Posted By: Brad B (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:15 PM
All this was was basically Vince saying, "Our ratings suck so much that we're going to give you the chance to win a monetary award if you actually watch our show!
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:15 PM
E-P-I-C F-A-I-L! Yeah yeah i'm gonna say it also this was a lame ass show. We get the whole saga of the rape the smackdown roster draft lottery. The lottery where HHH won't move to for a change, Taker hasn't moved but once. The so called exclusive brand extension lotto that is non existence with the all the so called "inner brand matches" And let me guess he will drop a million dollars from the ceiling every monday just like Trump did last year. Ummmmm i thought we were working on ratings here not attendance? Ratings are sparked with intriguing storylines not blah soap operas.
Posted By: Marc (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:18 PM
As someone behind me tonight said as we watched RAW in a bar, so it's come to this. Vince isn't ever going to make any real changes to RAW and he doesn't have to he's rich biotch. Hard to blame him.
Posted By: Amp (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:19 PM
Yeah, only the marks are watching. That's why this recap has already gotten 5 comments within minutes of being completed. I think it's the opposite, the smarks are watching, but they've lost most of their casual fanbase.
That said, I thought Raw was pretty solid, not a perfect show by any means, but what company puts on a perfect show nowadays anyway?
Posted By: Bill (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:20 PM
wow you guys complain WAY to much about prtty little things. ohh only marks watch....yet i complaing how much the show sucks I'm watching.... If you do not watch then you have nothing to complain about... overall the show was okay
Posted By: Guest#7817 (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Yeah all of you are saying EPIC FAIL and whatnot, but if you win any of that money, you will think it is the greatest idea ever.
Posted By: LOL (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:21 PM
JJ why do you keep saying the same dumb things you complain and complain yet you still watch,

Wasn't Bischoff going to do something similar in WCW giveaway wise?
Posted By: ButchReedMark (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:22 PM
that was it? how will the viewers profit from this money giveaway
Posted By: juantonzoup (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:24 PM
Did anyone watch the actual show?
The debut of Ted Dibiase JR.
An awesome free TV match between Michaels and Jericho.
And people still have something to bitch about?
Posted By: WTF? (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:24 PM
Best thing on the show was Big Shows USA network commercial.
Posted By: Tyrsca (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:24 PM
"All this was was basically Vince saying, "Our ratings suck so much that
we're going to give you the chance to win a monetary award if you actually
watch our show!"
If RAW's ratings suck, how bad is the rest of cable considering RAW only gets beat on cable by the NFL and NBA playoff games.
Also, did everyone piss on WWE giving away a house to a fam in 1995 like this? Especially considering how this giveaway is going to work hasn't even been announced yet.
I will concede, though, they did overhype the announcement. JR and King could have just made it between matches.
Posted By: Guest#0201 (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Hey, remember Summerslam '97? When WWF was giving out the CHANCE to win a million bucks (or some other large sum that I don't remember)? And then the people who won that chance had to play some key game that was impossible to win. HI-larious! Sometimes I think this really is nothing but a carnie show.
Posted By: The REAL MP (Registered) on May 26, 2008 at 11:27 PM
Why is it always Raw...Has he forgotten that Smackdown is moving to another network and there ratings are in the toilet too....Why cant this draft take place Friday on Smackdown? Thats the problem everything is planned out nothing happens on either show without the fans already knowing whats going to happen. I can probably tell you what the WWE needs..Hire back Paul Heyman, get rid of all that titties and ass ESPECIALLY on Raw and get back to the business of wrestling, and using real FEMALE wrestlers bring back the promo fire Vicky as SD general manager, unite the tag titles and allow the teams from all brands to compete with each other....where's the cruierweight title? and aren't we now in the platinum era of bling bling, gold is played revamp each and every title belt especially the straight from the crayola factory ECW title..hell do away with it all together and bring back the hardcore title..Hell take a jab at the TNA roster and for god sakes let John Cena go heel!!!!!
Posted By: CenaFan (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Oh and I'm willfully ignoring the complaining about complaining, in favor of a real discussion about the product.
Posted By: The REAL MP (Registered) on May 26, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Listen to all these haters, blasting RAW and McMahon's "epic" announcement. Stop criticizing tonights show when you all know very well that you WILL be tuning in next week to see what happens.
And that my friends, is true.

Very Good Raw.WWE is Awesome! Im defiantly going to have to make sure i dont miss a Raw any week! WWE is the Freakin Best Wrestling Ever!
Posted By: ProudWWEmark (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Zzzzzzzzz....
Remember when wrestling use to be good? I am going to give TNA another chance. They have to be better than this. I know their women are a lot better.
Posted By: Andrew (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:30 PM
It's pretty sad when they have to pay people to get them to watch their show.
Posted By: subtlefuge (Registered) on May 26, 2008 at 11:33 PM
That was hilarious. Vince tried so hard to get any sort of reaction out of the crowd but was met with...complete discontent. You see how far WWE has sunk? They are now trying to BRIBE viewers to tune into the show because no one cares about their wrestlers or storylines! A very sad day for wrestling. Epic announcement? More like...(read my name)
Posted By: EPIC FAIL. (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:35 PM
Jericho/HBK are matches that should be HEADLINING PPV's for the WWE Championship but no we have to watch HHHitles 13th reign as champion
Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:39 PM
RAW thoughts
- Hardy and Cena are winning at the PPV
- Jericho turning heel will do more for ratings then Vince giving away money
- RAW will win the draft again
- If you win the million dollars you could buy Ashley Massaro for 40 hours
Posted By: Brett (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:40 PM
A million dollar giveaway? A Ted Dibiase appearance? Vacant GM slot?
God, you people are too stupid to recognize some foreshadowing...

"That was hilarious. Vince tried so hard to get any sort of reaction out of the crowd but was met with...complete discontent. You see how far WWE has sunk? They are now trying to BRIBE viewers to tune into the show because no one cares about their wrestlers or storylines!"
Nobody cares? Funny because the RAW I saw tonight was in a packed arena with around 15,000 people. It was reported this afternoon that the show was an advance sell out (and on a holiday).
Sell out crowds have been happening for the majority of WWE's PPVs and TVs this year. The typical house show attendance recently hasn't been bad, either. But because you don't like it, that means no one cares.

Folks, welcome to WCW Nitro!
Posted By: Tony Schiavone (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:48 PM
I agree the announcement was a let down and reeks of desperation, but I enjoyed the rest of the show. I thought we got some good in ring action, the Jericho thing intrigued me, we got a debut and saw a lowcarder get elevated into a fairly high profile feud. So I enjoyed it, even though the ending disappointed me.
Posted By: Brian (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:49 PM
What will happen next week? TUNE INTO NITRO TO FIND OUT!
Posted By: JJ (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:55 PM
a weekly giveaway?
Nobody is going to start watching wrestling to see a fan get a million dollars, and frankly the chance of a million dollar giveaway is hardly going to sell more tickets. Vince has lost it, he's now giving money away. Vince you don't give money away when ratings are in a slump. You only give money away when your making phenomenal amounts of it, when your on top of the world and when you could use a PR boost. however now is not the time for a giveaway.
in other news.
It's going to be interesting to see how Burchill vs Kennedy works out, at leats now Burchill has something better to do than just beat up super crazy. however I'm dreading more Curb Stomps and Mic Checks, please let them use other finishers, those look so stupid! Green Bay Plunge and the C4/ walking the plank were better.
Still it's good that these two could have an actual fued, it'll keep kennedy hot and possibly elevate Burchill.
The Tag Title match wasn't as good as the heat match at all, but I was outright amazed that they retained! I thought they'd put the belts on London and Kendrick in an attempt to make the smarks happy.
Why is everybody taking out Ashley's mistakes on poor Mickie? Katie last week and now JBL.
by the way, would it kill Trashly to come out with London and Kendrick again, that was the only time she ever had anything close to a purpose.
Speaking of Mickie. Here's a hint girl, if you don't want people to keep insinuating that your dating somebody, don't stand next to them during random gatherings, I swear her and John holding hands.
John Cena tried but seriously, tonight Cena had the kind of proformance that the IWC hates from him, I actually counted the five moves of doom (except the finishing part, he hasn't been able to get that on TV for a long time) before Umaga inturrupted.
Melina's new finisher looks fake, I'm sorry to say this but it looked harder on Melina than jillian.
Who else his hoping that Ted Jr hits the ground running better than Cody and hopefully way better than DH 'didn't learn anything from my father's tragic death' Smith?
It seems McMahon is really on a Second Generation high right now. if this keeps up next thing you know Vince is going to hire Nick Hogan. It's not like he's going to be a racer now.
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on May 26, 2008 at 11:58 PM
So DiBiase's kid is going to be using his name?
I told you all that having "Jr" in your name is the death knoll. Apparently, WWE realized this.
Having a guy with the same name as an 80s legend is going to confuse a lot of dummies out there, but he already cuts a better promo than most of the roster so this kid may have a future yet.
Posted By: Brad B (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:01 AM
Could care less about the million bucks.
Jericho/HBK was ok for the time it got.
Anybody else see the ass raping Kennedy is receiving. He's going from a feud with the GM of RAW to Burchill? Why not have him just fall off the roster entirely?
A women's I Quit match is a good concept. Hope it lasts longer than the ring entrances do.
Would have liked to see Cena/JBL be in a match where the bell doesn't ring to start the match until one of them bleeds. A first blood match on an 'extreme' ppv is dumb.
Where was Santino?
Posted By: Guest (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:01 AM
You know, for all the Nitro hate here, I actually have to say if Raw were turning into Nitro would that be so bad? I remember lots of great cruiser stuff, midcarders being allowed to showcase their skills beyond company style, and some midcard title defenses. Now we also got some crappy booking and main events. Of course, we all know Vince would never consider giving us better wrestling on Raw or PPV....after all WWE couldn't take a hint from ROH being they are "a nothing".
Posted By: Unknown1 (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:03 AM
"You only give money away when your
making phenomenal amounts of it"
WWE is making phenomenal amounts of money. 2007 was WWE's biggest year ever as far as revenue in-take goes ($485,000,000) and Jan-Mar. 2008 was WWE's biggest quarter ever in revenue intake.
Posted By: Guest#0777 (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:05 AM
wow.......is todd pettingill gonna come to my house with a big white sack with a $ sign on it. SNORE how 1995. Go fuck yourself Vince.

Actually Daniel, melina has had that finisher for a while, she calls it the california dream.

I love the WWE marks who say every week YOU KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO TUNE IT SO SHUT UP!! and then the next week the ratings just continue to drop. While the marks continue to suck on Vinces privates lets have a real discussion.
He has done nothing to improve the product which stunk.
Posted By: hilarious (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:41 AM
the one thing I'm wondering about is the draft lottery because in 4 weeks is the raw before the next ppv why are they changing up the roster the show before the ppv unless Mcmahon is talking about the next night and was off by a week?
Posted By: Paul E (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:43 AM
Okay. Obviously, I'm not up on the internet terminology...but since when did people start to use that " FAIL " term for everything horrendously bad? I mean, fuck. It's gayer than Jeff Hardy's belts. I got a new comparison. EPIC FAIL = EPIC FAG!

well they have to fill time for kennedy since they had to end the feud w/regal so abruptly. my choice for dibiases partner...ashley massaro! everybody has a price!

Here's a comment on a comment:
"Has he forgotten that Smackdown is moving to another
network and there ratings are in the toilet too....Why cant this draft take
place Friday on Smackdown?"
Because Vince is purposely wanting SmackDown to have low ratings to leave the CW with. It was the CW's decision to drop SmackDown, therefore, Vince doesn't care if the show bombs because he knows that he can pick it back up on My Network TV, which used to be UPN.

Does this mean we'll be having Tough Enough/Diva Search every week?
Posted By: JS (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 01:06 AM
A lot of you guys complain about not watching but read the recaps? That sounds like of dumb doesn't it?
And Kennedy is useless, what is he even there for? If he was released tomorrow no one would miss him. He's beaten Regal and Carlito, two guys that connect to the fans MUCH better. Lets see what he can do without an opponent that isn't already over.
Posted By: Guest#2378 (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 01:21 AM
Melina's finisher is not new, she's been using for around a year +. It's called the California Dream.
Posted By: Michelle (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 01:24 AM
None of you know what you are talking about. Oh yes, its a dumb announcement... but the draft is great! Give me a break. The draft has been done before and yes, it does change things up for the better, but they have never done this kind of contest. Anything is possible. Use your brains.
Posted By: Lupercus (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 02:05 AM
I'm just as dissapointed as the rest of you regarding the "epic announcement" but still am witholding final judgement until they disclose all the details. I'm confused if they decide to give it away to someone in the crowd since attendance isn't much of a problem, proven by tonight's
Pepsi Center sellout. I can only think of a situation where they randomly post someone's home phone number on the screen and it is then up to that person to call-in during RAW where they are subjected to a WWE trivia contest with a bunch of trick questions or something. I guess the consolation prizes would be alot of long-expired ICOPRO and WWF Scratch-Logo totebags with the WWF logo covered with masking tape.

CM Punk to Raw.
Umaga to SD!
those are the only 2 drafts that i'm looking forward to.

The potential of more Burchill = MANY BUYS
Posted By: Pete Thorn (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 02:48 AM
So, basically to recap:
1. We get a non finish in the main event
2. The owner takes up screen time to announce a million dollar contest
3. Celebrities are training to wrestle a wrestler in backstage bits..
...Are you guys sure tonight was RAW or a weird, weird episode of WCW Nitro? And I can hardly wait to see the lovely plants, errrr.. lucky, lucky viewers who receive all that legitimately won money! My god, paying out $1 mil to get viewers? If it doesn't work, THAT will be hilarious! SD/ECW Rape. .er.. Draft in June, Nitro style giveaways, wrestler vs celebrity, yeah this is basically turning into Nitro. And wow, the draft is 3 hours long like the old Nitros..
How long before Cousin Sal becomes world champion?
Posted By: Black Scorpion (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 03:03 AM
OH! One final thing: Melina's new finishing hold is the Sickle Hold.. a bridging reverse deathlock/chinlock made famous by the Great Muta, which is what he called it. Just FYI.

"- If you win the million dollars you could buy Ashley Massaro for 40 hours"
That was priceless, my friend.
And I just think it's funny that the same people say they're boycotting Raw every week. In the Raw results section. You either watch the show every week and are hypocrites, or you read the reviews online and don't REALLY get an idea of what happened.
I used to be in the same boat. I stopped watching Raw and just read reviews of shows online, and I believed what everyone else said. I said the same stupid things everyone else said about Raw. Some were true, some weren't.
Giving away $1,000,000 is absolutely desperate, there's no way around it. BUT, that's not to say WWE is going to die off if this doesn't help ratings (And I really hope it doesn't).
Think about it. They have $1,000,000 to give out. Money-wise, they're not doing badly. Every quarterly they have, they seem to be making money. That's good, any way you look at it. They want to bring ratings up, and that's fine. I don't think this will work, but my point still stands. Their TV shows aren't doing great ratings. WWE as a whole, though, is still making money and being profitable. If you don't like it, you're probably not one of the people who is shelling out money to them and buying their merch/DVDs/PPVs in the first place, so it's not like they need you to stay around to turn a profit.
It always makes me laugh when I see people say "WWE SUCKS! THEY NEED TO PUSH THE YOUNG GUYS! STOP PUSHING HHH! STOP PUTTING ALL THE STARS ON RAW!" Please, fellow wrestling fans. NO ONE takes us seriously, especially if all we do is spout out misspelled criticisms and nitpick. Back up your points with facts, opinions and suggestions.
They put the most stars and talent on Raw, because it's their flagship show. Smackdown isn't intended to compete with Raw in the ratings or become the #1 show in WWE canon. That's like saying "HEY! WHY ARE YOU TAKING THE BEST GUYS FROM OUR AAA TEAM AND PUTTING THEM ON THE MAIN ROSTER!?" Are you kidding me? I don't think Smackdown is a "farm system", not at all. But it's not like WWE is trying to convince you otherwise. They're clearly stating, every week, what their priorities are. If you don't like it, find some other wrestling to watch or just stop watching. Go watch ROH for your wrestling fix. That's what I do. Go watch TNA if you like their way of sports entertainment better than WWE. No one's forcing you to like what a certain company is putting out. You either like it or you don't.

"A million dollar giveaway? A Ted Dibiase appearance? Vacant GM slot?
God, you people are too stupid to recognize some foreshadowing..."
Synn beat me to the punch! Something tells me that this money giveaway is taking us right back to the old Million Dollar Man gimmick...
Basically, there will be some ludicrous thing that a "fan" has to do to acquire the money. The "fan" will be publically humiliated & the money will still be in Vince's pocket.
It worked twenty years ago!!
BTW - -
Jericho/HBK is gold! They could book that every week and I would watch.
But the tag team match stunk. It's sad when I cheer for JBL. But it looked like Umaga & Hardy were both missing spots all over the place!
Posted By: BarnDude (Registered) on May 27, 2008 at 03:07 AM
It may have already been mentioned, but Jericho and Michaels did actually have a rematch on Raw in 2003. Jericho won with the Walls of Jericho, I can't remember if it was clean or not.

Good to see Ted Dibiase in there. I said he should be the manager for this stable they were talking about.
Honestly guys, did anyone think the "Epic" announcement wouldn't be a let down? They build it up so much it couldn't be anything but an anti-climax.
Still that in text form didn't seem like a bad Raw. I will be watching.
I'll also be hoping SD doesn't get too screwed this time around with the draft.
Posted By: Fenris (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 05:43 AM
Good Raw.
Didnt care for the "Money Giveaway", but like most people we should wait and see what it is.
Can clearly tell who has seen the show and who just read the report.
The show was lacking build to One Night Stand but not much you can do with 2 weeks of build. Im interested where Ted DiBiase Jr is going. And I love that they finally are doing something with Burchill.
Jericho Vs. HBK was a very good Tv Match. And please dont complain about the finish, its STORYLINE and im very interested to see where it goes.
And a draft one week before Night of Champions??? hmmmmm
But Good Raw

I usually work on monday night, after watching this snooze fest, i'm glad i don't waste my time every week. Boring, lame , it looked like the wrestlers were just going through the motions. Do you people really think is for real. Vince already knows where everyone we be placed.
Posted By: Pyle Driver (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 08:32 AM
Jericho/HBK was perfectly done. If stories were played out half as well as this one, WWE wouldn't need to give out a million bucks.
I loved how Vince came out promising new things, and then the show opens up with a 15 minute Triple H promo. Good times.
I'm thinking Edge, CM Punk and one of either Bats/MVP head over to Raw, and Umaga, Carlito and maybe Orton goes to SD.
Posted By: BH (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 09:01 AM
I stopped watching Raw a couple of months ago, decided to give it another try and guess what, same tired lines, same angles, same lack of wrestling, same ol' same ol', no wonder the ratings stay the same....
Posted By: TexasFan (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 09:59 AM
Yeah, right, $1M.
And "Money" Mayweather made how much at Wrestlemania??? Oh, that's right, you DIDN'T pay him $20M to fight Big Slow.
But, we should believe WWE this time, right? Honest! Bwhaaaa, ha, ha, ha!
Posted By: TJack (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 10:21 AM
This is getting old, all these so called marks coming online saying how bad raw is and complaining about every little thing. I have a simple solution for all those problems, STOP WATCHING. There, you won't have to complain, and if enough of you stop watching maybe the ratings will continue to dip and then maybe WWE will be serious about making some changes.
Posted By: BxBaller (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Love out the pimple faced teenagers are saying WWE is putting out a good product right now. Listen you bunch of VINCE LOVERS, the shows that they are putting on these days lack quality. Stop supporting crappy wrestling and demand something better. Wrestling fans deserve better than this crap. Currently Raw makes WCW Saturday Night via 1999 look like Grade A television.

Whats the point of doing a draft if stars from other shows come over each week?
Posted By: Tonwarw (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 11:27 AM
Once again....for all those people who sit there and say "boring" and bash on the show and call out how shitty it is, here's your solution....Don't Watch It!!!! I know people aren't impressed with the same thing week after week, if you don't like it, don't watch it-instead of getting on here and bitching about how boring and lame it was. Watch something else for christ sakes. it's so annoying to hear people whine on here. I hope i'm not the only one who finds that annoying.
Posted By: Nick (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 11:32 AM
I've ripped on Randy Orton and Trippy for several years now, but have to give credit where it's due. That promo was absolutely awesome. Randy didn't flub lines, and was confident and intense without seeming forced or sounding like he was reading a script. Trips wasn't in his jackassy "I don't sweat you cuz I hold the power and everyone knows you're jobbing Sunday" mode. Their thorough talk of Evolution was relevant and well done. Trippy criticizing Randy for ducking competition and talking himself up was very funny in its irony. Everything was perfect. This could be a case study for how to do a face to face promo. And best of all it wasn't ruined with a physical confrontation where the podiums are knocked over and someone hits their finisher and sneers over their fallen opponent. Then I have to read "well you know since guy X got the last hit in then guy Y is winning Sunday" even though that pattern no longer exists. Anyway, major kudos to both for a promo that exceeds anything with HBK/Flair.
The irony is I was fairly excited to see how Raw might improve with the forced change of plans, and Vince came up with a way to horrifically disappoint me. They should just do the damn draft next week and let that be it, but that's too simple. He has to insult us. Maybe I'll just quit watching until the draft since Vince just assured us nothing intersting will happen before then. It's so sad, even if I believed I could win a million dollars I'd STILL contemplate skipping this show. What a mess.
Posted By: Shockmaster (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 11:40 AM
I think we are missing the mark way too much on the whole giveaway idea.
I enjoyed this RAW simply for the fact that they are serious about building up new feuds (Kennedy-Burchill) and getting the tag team ranks again.
I'm curious as to see who Dibiase will team up with to dethrone Hardy and Rhodes.
One Night Stand looks promising, and hopefully will end up having some surprise results.
Posted By: Orlando (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 11:41 AM
Dont complain about the wrestling, this better wrestling then during the Attitude Era. Despite some people seem to have forgot that.
Posted By: Spike (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 11:44 AM
Couple things:
1. "Epic Fail"---Not sure where this started, but I agree that it's getting old already.
2. Can we all please stop referring to the upcoming draft as "the raping of smackdown" please? This is just really tasteless. Rape is a serious subject and though you may not appreciate where talent primarily appears after the draft, just remember that the brand split is really just a joke anyway. Think about it. When is the last time WWE went an entire week without an inter-brand matchup?
Posted By: Ben Spec:tor (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:09 PM
I disagree spike the wrestling from the attitude era actually was pretty great and actually entertaining.
Posted By: no Spike (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:48 PM
To the WWE marks who are whining that people are dissing the show and that the company isn't desperate they just tried to bribe people on national tv to watch their show and if it is a lame payoff with some sort of twist the viewers will continue to go away. Honestly its embarrassing as a fan of the company to see things sink to these depths. Before any of you marks go no they're not desperate then why were there news reports that they are basically getting to the point where they have to redo anything.
Better idea: WWE marks who aren't living in reality please you go away and go to wwe.com and write love letters to vince over there.
Posted By: reality check (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 12:52 PM

Obviously, Spike didn't watch the Attitude era.
Posted By: Guest#9634 (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 02:02 PM
Oh come on, Attitude Era was about storylines and the characters. People forgot that the wrestling was decent and not that great. Wrestling in WWE today is better, but the characters and storylines are far worse.
And not talk about that during the Attitude Era the matches had more run in, interference and bullshit finishes then TNA. But did people complain?? Of course not. But now, one run in and suddenly "WWE Sucks!"
People are so blinded with the Attitude Era.
I loved the Attitude Era and still do, but that was because of characters and storylines. From a wrestling perspective, todays wrestling is better.

If I recall correctly, UPN is on channel 57 (In my city) and Smackdown was on channel 57. THUS! My CW was UPN. Also, My Network Tv is on channel 17 and that same channel use to be The WB.
God I hate these new station names. Its so bland.
Posted By: Marky(UselessComment)Mark (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 02:51 PM
I'm not going through 90 comments, so someone probably already said this, but 3 1/2 stars for the main event? Wasn't that match like 8 minutes long and completely by the books? There was a nice Lionsault spot and that is literally the only thing I remember from it, aside from the ending.
Just because Jericho and Michaels throw their ring gear into the ring doesn't merit an automatic 3 and some odd stars.
Posted By: D-Steak (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 02:53 PM
What bullshit! In the first hour we had two matches. TWO! And neither lasted that long.
The Michaels/Jerhico match was awsome, but the stories were decent. Then we get this great big announcement from Vince and it was that he's giving away money. Big let down. He could have said he was bringing back WCW and it would have been more exciting. Vince's ideas usually blow up in his face anyway i.e. XFL, Body Building Federation, etc.
Posted By: mike (Guest) on May 27, 2008 at 03:08 PM
I would've totally marked out if he would've announced a fourth brand, like extending Heat into it's own brand or something. Or taking some of the rejected American Gladiators and doing a show out of them. But as it currently goes, there are really no "brands" left, anymore.
As for the million dollars... only two things will guarantee sells: sex and money, and if their idea of "sexy" is Ashley Massaro, well then...
I think this will work in Vince's favor, but all you "fans" on the internet are nothing but whiney f*cking bitches, anyway. So Vince could care less what any of YOU think. This is for the TRUE fans, as in, the people who actually PAY money to see the shows LIVE.
I agree with Vince in saying that all of you fat, ugly, internet jackoffs who do nothing but bitch and complain, and yet, still watch every week, can eat a big fat dick.
American Gladiators is on at the same time. If you don't like RAW, go bitch over on NBC.

Spike, not everything is about two sweaty men bumping and humping for 10 minutes. Wrestling is only one area of a successful show. Who cares if the wrestling is better? The fans don't judging by the ratings going down and Vince getting desparate.
Fans want the larger than life characters and entertainment that the Attitude Era provided. They are not getting that now. Everything is ho-hum and boring. Wrestling is only a draw to the IWC who make up a tiny amount of the audience. The storylines, feuds, and angles are the true draws. And that's WWE's problem right now.

I just hope that I can find a place out here to train as a professional wrestler so I could be just like Triple H, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Kane, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Mick Foley,Tommy Dreamer, Hardcore Holley, Sandman, Sabu, CM Punk. So I can fight with them when I become professional.
