ECW Rant of AweXomeness 6.17.08
Posted by Elmo Machete on 06.17.2008
Hard sell for Night of Champions, a.k.a. the Chris Benoit Memorial Show. Matt Sydal is still called Evan Bourne, CM Punk still hasn't used his briefcase, and the matches are still more satisfying than Mondays and Fridays even though they're squashes!
ECWWEHD, Tazz and Adamle still suck alongside the opening theme, Reverend Moe Esch and Johann du Uber are making fun of the show alongside me and we've got...
HORNSWAGGLE (w/replays from last week's bullshit) vs. ARMANDO (w/o Alejandro) ESTRADA. Horny sniffs the cigar, then breaks it. THEN, he runs around the ring and trips up Estrada with a Home Alone-esque bucket of marbles. Yeah, sure. 'Swaggle chops him, it does nothing, then sprays him with water. He must've got it from Hammerspace. Horny runs under the ring, evades Estrada, then Finlay sprays Armando with a Super Soaker. God, this is stupid. He throws Armando in the ring, and he sells the Soaker long enough to get pinned by the Tadpole Splash. Ugh. N/A(I'm not rating this. I make a solemn vow right here and now to NEVER rate a Hornswaggle match. When Tazz walks up to interview Finlay, Moe Esch said he looked like Carl Winslow.)
The Irish stereotypes dance afterwards, and sell the Tag Team title match at the PPV. How are Super Soakers supposed to sell a Pay-Per-View?
Oh, there's an inflatable mallet, too. Still stupid.
BREAK.
In WWE Magazine this month we've got pictures of the Dancing Cunts (I think. I can't tell any of them apart anymore). Adamle is still calling Lena Yada "Yadayadayada." Eew.
MATT STRIKER (already in the ring, thusly the loser) vs. MATT "EVAN BOURNE" SYDAL (w'replays from the cool shit of last week's match). Sydal is still wearing his Dragon Gate tights, 'cause they haven't caught it yet. Sydal outmaneuvers Striker from the bell, gets sent to the apron and Striker DESTROYS Sydal with a rope-assisted neck breaker for two. Back flipping back suplex gets two more, and as Striker goes to a rest hold I realize I'll NEVER call him "Evan Bourne." Matt gets out of it with a knee strike and a hurricanrana, a leg sweep and a slightly botched standing moonsault where Striker "kicks" him. Striker's back up, Sydal back flips into a kick from the corner, the Banned Shooting Star Press and that's it. * (Short squash. They seem to like Sydal, so that's cool I guess. I wish they'd give Matt Striker something to do, he doesn't deserve Big Daddy V as a charge.)
Mike "Galifinakis" Knox runs in afterwards, gives Sydal the Shellshock and I guess they're gonna make these guys feud. As long as "Bourne" wins in the end, I'm fine with it.
BREAK. They hype the Draft during the break. Here's hoping it goes better than last year's.
MIKE KNOX is still in the ring. Why? Oh, he's wrestling KOFI KINGSTON. This should be... "fun."
Collar and elbow, Kofi to the corner. Knox is "so mean, he doesn't even like himself." Sure, Mike. Kingston gets control with some dropkicks, and Knox chucks him into the corner from an attempted monkey flip. Knox gets a sweet-lookin' butterfly suplex, goes to the old reliable surfboard rest hold. Kofi breaks out in time to get punched in the neck, punches Knox out of the corner, gets a springboard cross body and starts kicking again. It's the Uncle Tom leg drop, and before Knox can lose like a man SHELTON BENJAMIN comes out (w/music) and causes a DQ. *1/4 (This match wasn't awful, for the all-too-brief time they let it go on for. Why couldn't they just let this finish?)
After the bell Benji throws Kofi over in a T-Bone suplex, Kofi blocks a kick and KNOX eats the spinning heel kick reversal. That was kind of cool, actually.
In the ring later, hyping the match for the Chris Benoit Memorial Show will be Big Show and Kane. Oh, 'cause their KotR '99 match was good enough to get a replay nine years later.
BREAK.
(LONG-ASS) replays from the silly-ass Million Dollar Giveaway from Monday see us back from commercial. Hacksaw Duggan is in a suit. Is that supposed to be more entertaining?
Backstage, Finlay and the dumb-ass leprechaun are with Teddy Long and his useless Diva Search reject. Finlay's signing a contract, the stupid blonde chick points out that after the draft Fit and the 'Chaun may be broken up. The midget bites the useless chick after he signs (with an X), Miz comes in and refuses to believe that the Irish Stereotypes are getting a title shot (me too!). Finlay lays out Miz with the Stereotype Stick. Good.
CM PUNK (w/that case he's TOTALLY been making use of since winning it) vs. COMMERCIALS!
BREAK.
That guy who already entered vs. (WWE Tag Team Champion) JOHN MORRISON. "Morrison is a warrior who loves center stage." Just stop talking, Adamle. Collar and elbow after they walk around a bunch, Punk sends Nitro to the corner and they look at each other like they mean business. Punk shoulder blocks Johnny after being sent to the ropes, gets an inverted Manhattan drop and Punk starts a'kickin'. Punk goes to the apron, Morrison trips him onto his face (THAT LOOKED AWEX.) and then Morrison takes control on the outside. Back in, and they start brawling before Morrison gets the kitchen sink knee. Just a one count off the knee, Nitro goes to a cool-lookin' sorta-surfboard. Punk breaks it, gets sent to the corner, Morrison knees him a bunch before giving him a gut buster. Back to the cool board, Corn Muffin Punk gets a half-assed cradle then Morrison breaks and drops Punk across the ropes. Punk back in after the usual shenanigans, then Nitro kicks Punk right above the dick. Abdominal stretch by Nitro, good psychology, Punk breaks the hold and goes for the G2S but Morrison stops his comeback with s'more knees. Punchy punchy punch, Morrison locks on a body scissors. MAN, his boots look gay. Punk breaks it with a GIANT SWING~! Knee, bulldog is stopped, Morrison misses the springboard kick and Punk gets the snap powerslam for two. Morrison blocks the Welcome to Chicago with a fireman's carry & knee strike, back suplex gets two for Nitro. Punk sends him to the corner, blocks an attempted sunset flip with a fireman's carry, OH SHIT GO 2 SLEEP and he wins. Again. **3/4 (Pretty good, honestly. They're usually good against each other, they've fought enough times.)
Oh shit, Miz is out and he has a mic. He points out that Morrison is still half of the WWETTC, hypes the CBMS match against the Irishmen and we hype the Main Event "Confrontation."
BREAK.
Teddy Long is in the ring, and he hypes the ECW title match at the Benoit Memorial Show - here comes Big Show and Kane. Adamle calls Kane & Show "agile." HA! Reverend Moe suggests Adamle being replaced by Gilbert Gottfried. THAT would be sweet. Show talks first, and it's boring. Kane talks again, it sounds scripted, still boring. This is your main event, ladies and gentlefolk. Mark Henry interrupts their unconvincing attempts at looking tough, I wish he was still called "Sexual Chocolate" so I could call him "Erotic Fudge," he vows to challenge the winner of the Night of Champions match, Henry looks like Uncle Phil and the Predator's love child, Kane and Biggles give Fudge'ms a double chokeslam... and THAT's the show?!?
----------
Anyone want to read what I try and rip off in my writing (aside from Scott Keith, CRZ and Hyatte)? No? Well, I'ma link to it anyway. Read THIS, and
>THAT. And if you want to read a blog I wrote about my action figures, click THIS'N.
----------
Okay show, overall. It let me down in the end because it ended on a Main Event Confrontation, but the wrestling was alright. They're building to a PPV, so I guess I understand why all the matches were short and unfulfilling. Join me next week, unless I'm fired.
finally a 411 columnist that i cant stand to read. your tries at comedy are terrible.

Wow, "The Benoit Memorial Show" eh? Is that really necessary? I mean two innocent people were killed along with the suicide of one disturbed person and it's only been about a year since it's happened. Do you really think it's the right call to make unfunny jokes about the situation?
Posted By: Bill (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 12:35 AM
YES WE GET IT YOU KNOW HIS REAL NAME IS MATT SYDAL, CONGRATS BRO
Posted By: Westen (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 12:39 AM
First of all.. You take things way too seriously.. The Finlay/Hornswoggle schtick was actually kinda fun... You know it's for the kids..
The matches, while short, were very entertaining..
And I actually didn't even realize an hour had passed by because I enjoyed the show..
Get a life.. grow up.. and realize it's just a show... Sit back and enjoy it.. If you don't like it, change the channel and get a real job :-P

What do you want Punk to do with MITB? He can only use it once, so it's logical that he'd wait until the best possible time. Other than that, what else is there to MITB that can be useful every single week?
Posted By: Guest#3860 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 12:44 AM
Hey, commenters complaining about one of the writers. That's sure a change of pace.

Are you serious? He can... you know... HIT PEOPLE with it.
Posted By: Guest#2444 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 12:47 AM
Kane and Big Show had a pretty good match on Raw right after their break up as a tag team which included actual wrestling holds that surprised everyone watching including JR and Lawler but let's forget that and think negative.
Posted By: Guest#5298 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 12:52 AM
Totally.

That would be a good idea.....if Punk was a heel.

well I liked it...
the commentary, not the show
'Henry looks like Uncle Phil and the Predator's love child'
cracked me up...

The Problem with money in the bank is that other than edge, nobody has used it like they should. What if Punk cashed it in after the Taker v. Edge TLC match? He woulda won... I just wish they would use some "real-life" mentality every once in a while...

Just stop talking, Adamle.
take your own advice
Posted By: Guest#9294 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 01:58 AM
Anybody have a constructively critical suggestion for making the column better? Hit me with it. When y'all just complain about my writing, say "you suck" and compare me to Mike Adamle, you become Adamles yourselves - bitching about the way someone talks about what you enjoy watching enough to hop on the Internet and talk about.
Posted By: Elmo Machete (Registered) on June 18, 2008 at 02:22 AM
C'mon Elmo! Biscuits and Gra-vay!
Yo, that show wasn't so bad, kind of like the opposite of the animation on Mission Hill. Remember that show? I wish Sydal would pick three highspots a match and focus on hitting them, a few of his spots seemed off tonight. Props to Striker for dressing like Jun Akiyama and using the Whiplash and Kentaro Shiga's finisher as his first and second move respectively.
Anywho, keep it up!
Posted By: JDL aka Johann Du Uber (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 02:29 AM
I missed the show and enjoyed reading this recap.
Folks who complain about a writer via the internet most likely could not do a better job themselves. Take their criticism with a grain of Mr. Fuji's salt.
Posted By: CanadianCrippler (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 02:31 AM
Ok history lesson jackass.
Past MiTB Winners
Edge
RVD
Kennedy
Edge HUNG ON to his case for DAMN near a YEAR before cashing it in at an "opportune moment".
RVD cashed HIS in where? At a time and place advantageous to HIM...UNIQUELY.
Ok Kennedy got jacked by Edge who found his "spot" to use it.
Every PPV and tv show they run is ONE more time you ask...WHEN. Thats called building suspense, a cornerstone of entertaining, compelling television.
You learn these things when you look outside your own assumptions and prejudices.
Just remember the difference between stupidity and ignorance. Ignorance is curable with knowledge. Stupidity however, is terminal.
Good luck to you and your column.
Posted By: CM Wolf (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 02:36 AM
Yeah I got to agree about the whole Chris Benoit deal. I enjoy some of Benoit's matches as much as anyone (WCW 92/93 especially) but he went crazy and Woman's finals minutes on earth were pretty terrifying.
And what are you ripping o Adamie for? He's lame intentionally.

I can't believe that someone hasn't said Epic Fail yet.
Posted By: Guest#5108 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 03:33 AM
constructive criticism or not, you have to admit, you have more negative comments than I have ever seen from any writer 411...
You've had a couple of good columns, out of like 10. 20% isn't too bad I guess, I mean how much worse can it get?
Anyway maybe you should stick to your

I agree with the poster, your failed attempts at humour make what may be a decent column very difficult to digest
Posted By: Guest#4462 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 05:34 AM
I will NEVER rate a Hornswoggle match
I will NEVER call Evan Bourne Evan Bourne
I will NEVER write a column where I don't sound like a 13 year old who just had his first day of high school and learned some new swear words
wait what?

Posted By: Triple J (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 06:05 AM
you guys complaining about the column are dumb, mind you, you're all entitled to your opinions and so is the columnist, but most of you are douches just because he thought the show sucked, which it did, and he tells like it is, he isnt just a WWE mark like most of you seem to be.
Posted By: Two-Face (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 07:24 AM
Yeah...I prefer this a lot over all the boring recaps on this site. I'll never get why there's so much hate.

"Kane and Big Show had a pretty good match on Raw right after their

excuse me dear guest, but if your brain made of fries or someting?
the match you are referring to was supposedly a wwe "pardody" take on indy-technical style, and wrestling wise - i'd say its up there with the best of hillary - obama and rosie - trump matches..
if 2 super heavyeights doing slow motion chain-wrestling is your fetish, im sure there are plenty of fat slobs on youtube that might meet with your demands.
Posted By: sutt (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 08:47 AM
Here's some constructive criticism then: your column is too short. You're packing in a lot of information and try to add spice with, essentially, one-liners, and it just doesn't work. You say you rip off CRZ, but his recaps were LONG, man. I mean - look what you did for the Kane-Show confrontation: six lines! "They talk, boring", not exactly what I'd call a rant there, now is it...
Posted By: Guest#9053 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 09:12 AM
ECW is slowly carving out a nice niche for themselves. Now they just need to freshen up the matches. How about Kofi/Morrison, Sydal/Miz and Benjamin/Punk?
Posted By: Jake Fury (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 09:21 AM
constructive criticism? Stop being negative and smark-like for the sake of trying to be negative, smark-like and funny. Or else you'll look as stupid as that "What were they thinking?" guy that disappeared.
Posted By: markhenrysquash2939 (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 10:01 AM
Other than saying "you suck", I'll actually provide some constructive criticism.
1) I think you're forcing the comedy to be a reviewer in the vain of Dunn or Scott Keith. Let it come naturally or just let the review of the match speak for itself.
2) Provide better criticism of the matches. Give a further break down on why you gave it the rating you did.
3) Maybe sum up your column with a pros/cons section. That way it doesn't look like your sh!tting on the show entirely.
Posted By: Constructicon (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 10:01 AM

Good point Two-face. You know how they can't stand to see a columnist give an honest opinion about a WWE show.
Posted By: Orlando (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 10:57 AM
i agree with construction, i forgot to watch and always enjoy your review, but a format change will probably work best for your style as construction stated perhaps a pro's and con's approach, and let the humor flow it the colum did have a very angry feel, and unless you are 100% certain that no female WWE performers, women wrestlers or fans on women wrestling will ever read this article it might not be a good idea to refer to them as " cunts" esp. my Princesa favorita mexicana Melina

you really might be the biggest douche of all time...its obvious the wwe allows and wants adamle to be awful to garner genuine heat kind-of like they did with vicky guerrero. she's still not very good but she gets more heat than a majority of the heels on the roster. take a couple steps back, try and just report the show because your commentary really does make you sound like a cocky, ignorant douche.
Posted By: this guy really does suck. (Guest) on June 18, 2008 at 12:48 PM
I thought this was pretty funny actually - Benoit jokes aside. It's definitely a good idea to ban the reviewing of Hornswaggle matches.

BREAK.
Oh, and the Benoit joke wasn't all that funny the first time, but it got less funny when you drove it into the ground.
And you're (like totally) way (way) too fond of the parantheses. If it's supposed to be a gimmick, it's not working.
Unless you're really doing an Adamle and being terrible on purpose, in which case you're doing great, keep it up.

Benoit Memorial show...
You mentioned that like 4 times... That's so immature I doubt you have any hair on your nuts
Posted By: Guest#8118 (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 03:38 PM
You don't find anything positive in almost anything; your recaps of matches seem like they're ADD-addled; unlike Dunn, Keith or Keller, I have to check another review to find out what actually happened in ECW as your reviews skim over/ignore the important developments, put wise-ass comments in every match line-up, and, by the seems of it, don't bother proofreading before posting it; you rise to neagtive comments far too easily and learn nothing from them.
I can't remember a worse TV reviewer than you on 411, ever; at least I knew what was happening on iMPACT! after reading a Ryan Byers review, even if the negativity on Byers was even worse than on your reviews.
Posted By: Shi Coybito (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 04:57 PM
Actually, Peter Kent used to review stuff here as Violent Panda, didn't he? I'll give you that: Elmo Machete is better than Peter Kent.
Posted By: Shiori Coybito (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 04:58 PM
Why do you continue to embarrass the site by letting this guy write for you?
Posted By: Ken (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 10:25 PM
Actually Coybito makes a good point, in that the constant attempts at humor/smarkdowm take away from the actual recapping aspect of the review, so anyone who hasn't seen the show or read another review isn't going to know what's going on. And isn't that the whole point of recapping a show?
Posted By: BREAK. (Guest) on June 20, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Nothing screams, "Lookit me, I'm a MARK," quite like a critic who can't handle criticism directed at him.
But, I do agree with you.... I will never call him "Evan Bourne."
I won't even call him "Matt Sydal."
After his piss-poor, shithole of a performance against Matt Striker, I will forever refer to him as "Sloppy McHype."
Posted By: David Burcham (Guest) on June 23, 2008 at 04:24 AM
I am actually begining to enjoy ECW, it is something that I'm not used to, but it could become a great starting place for the junior weights to get a great start. I would LOVE to see the bigger guys moved to Smackdown and Raw and let the little guys run the show over at ECW. I'm sure that McManagment won't let that happen, but to see some of these guys like Borne vs Nunzio, Kingston vs. Yang and so on would be a great thing to see. Get Kane, Show, and Knox out of there and it could become a great show.
