411's WWE Raw Report 7.21.08
Posted by Daniel Wilcox on 07.21.2008

We get highlights from The Bash and Raw starts now.

Batista leaves the production truck!

Michael Cole and The King are your hosts.

Batista is out. He planned on coming out as the new champion but because of Kane, that isn't happening. Tonight, since Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon are not here, he is putting himself in charge. And he's making a match: Punk defending against Batista. If Kane has a problem, he should find him before he finds Kane.

JBL is on the tron. He says Batista is in charge of nothing. He lost last night and he doesn't care who ran down and interfered. JBL is special. He walked out of the NYC victorious, so he is the entitled to the next world title opportunity. Batista tells him to come out so they can discuss this. JBL doesn't answer to Batista; he is the boss and he is in charge. His body doesn't feel like a world title match tonight, but Batista won't get one either. Tonight, JBL finishes off Cena. JBL tells Batista to go and find Kane if he wants a match so badly.

CM Punk is here! Punk says this is the law of the jungle, and becomes he is champ, that makes him king. He doesn't have to listen to JBL. Punk says Kane screwed stuff up for him too because he wants to prove that he can beat Batista. So instead of talking about it, let's do it until we get it right. The title match is on! JBL says he is in charge. Batista says to shut him up, and the sound goes off. Batista says we're on. We go to break.

This was an average opening segment, but did it's job of setting up the main event and a potential Batista/JBL feud down the line.

Shawn Michaels is here! Oh, but really, it's Lance Cade. Cade knows that Shawn is here tonight, and invites him to come out here. But if he does, they will have words that they should have had a long time ago. Paul London is out.

Paul London vs. Lance Cade

London goes behind and grabs a waistlock, then fires off with forearms as we get a loud "Let's go London!" chant. London misses a crossbody and Cade hits a backbreaker, then drives a knee into the back. Cade hits another backbreaker now and stretches London across the knee. London fights out of it with rights and knees to the head, but Cade whips him to the corner. London comes back with a springboard crossbody for 2, but then runs into a big shoulder tackle. Cade tosses London gut-first into the ringpost, drags him back to the middle and pulls London up. Sit-out spinebuster finishes.

Winner: Lance Cade

Fun little match. The crowd got behind London, and they worked a fast pace. Had this gone a few more minutes it could have got really good. *3/4

Cade says if that wasn't enough to bring him out, maybe this will be. Cade introduces Chris Jericho, who is looking ridiculously sharp in a suit, as we go to break.

Jericho says as much as the fans want Shawn Michaels here, the fact is, he's not coming. We get footage from the Bash showing why. Everything that happened last night is on us, the fans. It's our fault. There is no blood on his hands (nice way to come full circle there). Shawn spurred himself on for all of the fans; he took one chance too many and now he is paying for our sins. He said he was coming back to save the fans but then he realized we don't deserve to be saved. We sided with an egomaniac and we will regret, just like Shawn. His career is over. He has a detached retina and won't see properly for the rest of his life. Jericho has no remorse. The ironic thing is, by closing Shawn's eye he opened his. He doesn't have to be obsessed with pleasing a bunch of people who can't think for themselves. He says the people vilified him when he came back. They wanted the Jericho with the long hair who cut jokes, but he has grown up. Shawn Michaels never grew up and neither did the fans. He says he is proud of what he did. By ending Shawn's career, he considers himself, saved. We go to commercial.

Stunning promo from Jericho there, from bringing the Shawn Michaels saga full circle with the "blood on my hands" line to the delivery of the final statement, this was vintage Jericho.

Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix

Beth shoves Kelly, but Kelly responds in time and goes on the assault, cuts the leg out from under her and hits a dropkick. Beth blocks a roll up and pulls Kelly up. She comes back with forearms but Beth dumps her into the turnbuckles. Scoop slam by Beth. The fans really rally behind Kelly, which helps her fight out of a half-nelson-ish hol. Kelly back flips out of an arm wrench and hits a few forearms and then Beth charges into a back elbow. Kelly catches Beth with an enzuigiri and snaps off a tilt-a-whirl head scissors, then connects with a dropkick. She handsprings into the corner but gets caught in the chicken wing, but she rolls through, but Beth counters and hits a wheelbarrow slam for 3.

Winner: Beth Phoenix

Kelly wasn't as crisp as usual, but she showed more here. Beth is solid and held the match together, but Kelly has tremendous potential, and a ridiculous smile. I love this girl. **

Jim Duggan is in the ring, dressed in T-shirt and trousers. He is thinking about hanging up his boots. It's been a great 30-year run. He made tons of friends and he survived kidney cancer. He thought about what DiBiase and Rhodes said last week and they may be right. This is a game for young men and it may be time for him to move on. He says thanks. Jerry Lawler cuts him off and gets in the ring. He knows this is none of his business, but there's no age limit in the WWE. He doesn't care what Rhodes and DiBiase said. As long as you're passionate, you can do this as long as you want to do it. The fans chant USA and King asks if he really wants to give that up. Duggan says no, he just needed someone to tell him that. He thanks King as the champs are here.

DiBiase says just because King likes to date girls younger than them, doesn't mean they relate to us. Cody says when Duggan one the first Rumble in 88, he was 2 years old. King slaps the taste out of Cody's mouth. DiBiase holds Cody back, and says they will continue this another day but he suggests they leave the ring. JBL is here as we go to commercial.

This was another good segment as it gives the tag champs more mic time and sets up a feud, which is always a good thing.

John Cena and Cryme Tyme vs. JBL and Simply Priceless

The faces hit the ring and the heels bail. Cena has his arms taped. Cena and JBL start it out… until JBL tags out when the bell rings. Cody in and they lock up and Cody grabs a side headlock but Cena catches him with a hip toss for 1. Right by Cena. He whips him to the corner and hits a huge bulldog for 2. Cena hits a back body drop and tags in Shad who gets a 2 count. He sends Cody to the corner and hits a big clothesline, but runs into a big boot. DiBiase in but he gets caught with a T-bone suplex for 2. JTG in and Shad launches JTG into DiBiase and he gets a cover for 2. JTG catches Ted with a big right but Ted hangs him up on the top rope. JBL comes in and pummels JTG in the corner and catches him with some vicious rights. JBL hits a shoulder tackle and tags in Cody who fires off with rights and a knee. Cody grabs a side bear hug, which JTG eventually manages to elbow out of. JTG hits some forearms but Cody goes low to the ribs to slow him down. Ted in now and hey double team him with arm wrenches and right hands. That gets 2. Ted slams JTG and hits a double stomp from the second rope for 2. JBL in now and drives a knee into the gut of JTG, and again. Clubbing blows now by JBL, followed up with a few elbows. Cody comes in with a big kick to the gut. Cody applies that modified bearhug again, but JTG breaks the grip and gets a roll up for 2, only for Cody to punt him in the ribs. Ted in now and stomps away at JTG. Ted hits an elbow drop and a fist drop and scores with a big kick to the back. Body scissors applied now by Ted. JTG elbows his way to some separation, ducks a clothesline and scores with a dropkick! Cody in, prevents the tag with an elbow drop for 1. Cody gets a few turnbuckle thrusts but then charges right into the ring post. Ted in, Cena in! SHOULDER BLOCK, and again. PROTO PLEX! SPEAR for JBL! JBL bails and Cena decks both tag champs with rights. JBL leaves though the crowd as Cena gets the tag champs up for a DOUBLE FU! That's it.

Winners: Cena and Cryme Tyme

Cena hugs his Dad at ringside and celebrates with Cryme Tyme.

Fun match, and it's good to see the tag champs getting plenty of in-ring time. **1/2

In the back, Chris Jericho and Cade walk and open a door, and Kane is there with his bag. Be lucky you didn't have a cup of coffee on you, Chris. Kane walks off.

Mickie James and Kofi Kingston vs. The Burchills

Intergender rules here. Mickie hits Air Mickie early and attacks with knees, and the Mickiecanrana! Paul tries to get involed and gets a slap. He stalks Mickie but Kofi comes from out of nowhere with a springboard crossbody. Kofi and Burchill in and Burchill hits some big knees and a slam. Kofi comes back with a back elbow and huge dropkick. Katie in and tries a kick but it's blocked and Paul gets a chop block. Paul drops a couple of elbows down on the knee of Kofi, then adds to the injury with kicks. Kofi gets a quick sunset flip for 2, and catches Burchill coming with a clothesline. Kingston avoids a charge and fires off with rights, and Mickie intercepts Katie's interference and they brawl on the floor. Paul out and slams Mickie on the floor. Kofi out and misses a spin kick and hits the ring post. Burchill hits the Twisted Sister and it's over.

Winners: The Burchills

This was a very good match played at fast-forward, which is not a good thing because it means you'll remember less. Good stuff though, for the time they had. **

Jamie Noble tries his luck with Layla. Batista is here and asks where Kane is. Noble talks himself into a two-handed chokehold. Batista wants to know where Kane is. We go to a commercial.

CM Punk says he decided to defend his gold tonight because if he is going down, he's going down swinging. JBL says at Summerslam, he fully intends on wrestling for the title at Summerslam. JBL wishes him luck, because he is a footnote, a transitional champion. Punk points out that his first successful title defence came against him.

We the violent Michaels/Jericho footage again.

Santino says he wanted to fight a man last week. He only fights people with Adam apple. So he reissues that challenge tonight, for a man! D'LO BROWN BITCHES! DOWN WITH THE FUCKING BROWN?!?

Beth Phoenix comes out to observe.

Santino Marella vs. D'Lo Brown

Big D'Lo chants. D'Lo hits a shoulder tackle and tosses Santino to the corner and a right, and a shoulder thrust and another right. D'Lo hits some knees now and a vertical suplex. Vintage D'Lo leg drop. SUDDEN IMPACT by D'Lo! Up top, LO DOWN!

Winner: D'Lo Brown

Beth is in the ring now as we get replays. Back live, Beth drills Santino. She misses a second right and Santino grabs here. They switch waistlocks a few times and stand off. They eye each other up and Santino grabs her hair. She grabs his cheek and they kiss! Ha, they're both embarrassed. Tremendous.

Cole and Lawler says Shane and Stephanie McMahon are looking for a new General Manager.

Batista comes out for the world title match, but Kane comes down. They slug it out in the ring and Kane chokeslams Batista! CM Punk is out and tosses Kane to the floor. Kane stalks a cameraman to the back.

World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk vs. Batista

The ref asks Batista if he wants the match. Punk asks the same thing and Batista shoves him as we go to break. After the commercial, we get the introductions and we are underway. Punk grabs a side headlock and cinches it in for a while before running into a shoulder tackle. Punk gets shoved away but comes back with forearms until until he runs into a big boot from big Dave. Batista hammers Punk in the corner with knee and right hands and elbows. Punk catches him with a swinging neckbreaker and then hits a couple of big stomps. Forearms now by Punk, and elbows and boots in the corner. Punk hits a snapmare and a dropkick to the back of the head for 1. Punk drops a couple of elbows and now forearms, but Batista comes back with a right, a kick, a right. But Punk gets a drop toehold and goes right back on the attack with rights to the back of the head. Punk locks in a front facelock, but Batista powers out and dumps Punk. Punk connects with a running leg drop though and gets 2. Knees to the spine now by Punk, and another running leg drop, and a third. Punk locks in a modified crossface, but Batista works his way to his feet and snapmares out of it. He charges into a reverse elbow though, and Punk gets a neckbreaker for 2. Punk applies a grounded head scissors now. Batista gets some separation, but Punk catches him with a series of knees for a 2 count. Kicks to the ribs now, but Batista reverses an Irish whip and Punk crashes into the corner. Batista charges but Punk drop toeholds him into the turnbuckle. Running knee/bulldog combo! That gets 2. Punk tolls to the apron and springboards into a SPINEBUSTER! Both men are down but beat the referee's 10 count, and Batista carries Punk into the corner and hits some thrusts and a clothesline, but then runs into a boot. Punk hops up to the top but misses a crossbody! SPEAR! Thumbs up, THUMBS DOWN! JBL is here and that's a DQ!

CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL to Batista! John Cena is here and takes out JBL, but a right hand misses and Cena hits Batista! Cena tries to explain himself, but Batista goes for the bomb, Cena counters into a FU attempt, but Batista slides off and they slug it out. Referees separate them as we go off the air.

Your tagline should've also said "Santino and Beth get down with each other"

I marked out a bit for D'Lo

Fuckin' hell... the continued burial of CM Punk continues. You'd think WWE would learn by now and want to at least add some sort of credibility to newer stars. But, of course, we're going to be force-fed the "battle of the big men".

And on a side note - can Punk really be considered straight-edge since wrestling Batista? I'd imagine as jacked up as Big Dave is, he'd have 'roids seeping out of his pores.

DUGGAN IS SHIT!!!!
D-Lo is stiffer than Fuzey looking at Kardashian.
JBL is gold!!!

This Raw was better then the PPV!

Down with the Brown!!! That whole match/segment was incredible!

An so-so episode, but the creative team is really milking this whole Kane is going insane gimmick. What's in the damn bag? His old mask? His old teddy bear?

Posted By: ML2 (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:17 PM

When they seemingly confirmed it would be Punk vs. JBL in the Raw main event at SummerSlam I was sooooo disappointed. That's an OK off brand PPV match, but not a headlining match for the second biggest show of the year. Watching everybody run in at the end really made me feel better as hopefully we're building to a mutliman match, and Jericho could easily fit in there if they want six guys. Watching Batista and Cena throw bombs at the end was awesome and it harkened me back to the Austin-Rock slugfests (although Cena needs to add some intensity). I know people will say guys like HBK and Jericho and Edge are the hottest performers in WWE right now, but I've got to go with Batista.

After a couple promising Raws, last nights GAB and tonights Raw seem to be bringing things back to the way they were, or at least the new variation of that.

The only real highlight to me was the return of D'Lo Brown. A breath
of fresh air there. At least Raw's midcard might be fun with Brown,
Burchill and Kofi going at it. Jericho's promo was also pretty good.

The show ends with the focus on Cena/Batista and JBL. Guess the
champion is an afterthought. If they want to show how good Punk is:
1) Let him win a damn title match pinfall or submission clean. 2) Have him work with people closer to his size more often. 3) Let him be ROH Punk in the ring, not watered down WWE Punk.

I'm thinking they are headed toward an elimination chamber at SummerSlam. A bit overkill since they just had two in February, but if they do for the love of god use it to put Punk over.

The wrestling wasn't as good as the recaps says, but we all have our opinon and going to have to agree to disagree.

I guess the E is guaging what to do with Punk. I think the heel turn and a return to the obsessive Punk of early ROH fame would be excellent. For the 2nd night, his offense has looked good against a bigger opponent, but there was little heat with the crowd.
With a heel Punk who can get over the importance of the World Title through his words, the fans would get behind his opponents more. The main problem with Punk's push thus far has been the fact that they gave him the ball on the run. As a face champion, you need to be built up to a peak and given the belt as a climax. It's hard to build a face through a title run unless he takes the belt off someone with immense heat. Edge is great, but his heat wasn't quite enough.
However, you can give a heel champ a cold run and make him into a main eventer, if he can talk. Punk can. Heel Punk dammit! These cold crowds and "boring" chants are disheartening. I thought it was a good match tonight. Punk looked good on offense and Batista sold. Great, but no one cares! By the way, the non-finish for the 2nd night sucked ass as the match was going pretty well.

Way to absolutely BURY a champ (who is great and who fans like, "transitional" or not). In his own title defense match, he runs FIFTH after Batista, JBL, Cena and Kane and their l'il set-ups. Bullshit. I'd rather watch Snitsky and Carlito armwrestle for an hour than witness what they're doing to Punk. BULLSHIT, I say!

"Fuckin' hell... the continued burial of CM Punk continues. You'd think WWE would learn by now and want to at least add some sort of credibility to newer stars. But, of course, we're going to be force-fed the "battle of the big men"."

Wahhhh wahhhh wahhhh, and also wahhhh.

When Punk actually gets pinned by somebody, then you might have a point.

Hell in a Cell?

Punk, Batista, Cena, JBL, Kane and Jericho..

Save Cena and Batista, one on one, for Mania 25's main event.

Beth Phoenix IS RAW!

Good to see the Brown back and overall-good Raw

Posted By: Brad (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Sorry.. I meant Elimination Chamber.

.. and it looks like someone else sees that match as well.

i thought the wrestling matches were solid tonight. Dlo's return was awsome and the san martino and beth phoniex moment was hillarious. besides we got a double dose of beth.

ps: I like the coffee reference. goes back to the good old days.

Posted By: cool raw (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:31 PM

By the way, Punk is getting to control the matches, and it works. His match tonight looked alot like the beginning 10 mins of his matches with Joe. I like that they are trying to build the main event scene, but not at the expense of match endings.

I'm thinking Batista/JBL, Cena/Kane and Punk/Jericho will be the three main Raw matches at SummerSlam.

Posted By: Patrick (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:33 PM

God love the reverend Jericho!

Everything else on this show was mediocre at best.

Batista looked like he mailed it in tonight.

JBL wants another title shot? Didn't he just lose?

Cena v Batista would be great with a fair amount of build. Summerslam is too close for them to have a meaningful one on one match.

Hopefully the Santino/Phoenix bit will lead to some great skits of Beth trying to train Santino to really wrestle.

The tag champs were looking ok until Cena destroyed them both (one armed) in twelve seconds. Since he can't be world champ right now, let him have both tag belts.

I love Punk as champ (if they'd let him do something) but can't stand Kofi. I don't get it.

Readers may have 'marked out' for D'Lo, but the crowd was D-E-A-D for him. Wow, I think I heard crickets in the background.

Please God, let Orton heal and be back soon. Also, as a personal favor, have Kane pull the mask out of the bag and team back up with the Hurricane.

Posted By: guest (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:36 PM

wait do you people that whine about punk being buried realize how much more over batista and cena are??? why do you think batista took the heat and had the big come back at the end?? to get the crowd to pop!!!

Posted By: Guest#6708 (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:37 PM

Not really intriguied by this raw but I did enjoy the good promo that Jericho put on. I really want CM to pick up a clean victory over a superstar, I hated that kane softened batista up right before the match and then the rest of the interference that came, CM retained by luck once again.

Posted By: cj (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:38 PM

Great, another low-mid carder returns after he was canned years ago....so is Chaz coming back too?

Posted By: JEBJJA (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:42 PM

I know Batista marks are gonna use the Kane chokeslam as an excuse but CM Punk exposed Batista as having more holes than swiss cheese.

Enjoyed the HELL out of the Beth-Santino bit. That was awesome. Those two showed more charisma in two minutes than John Cena has for his entire career.

Posted By: Guest#0584 (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:46 PM

Said it before and will say it again:

Waaaaaah guys atleast 70 pounds heavier are laying out the champ, boo hooooo

Actually he does have a point nimrod, you're simply not intelligent enough to see it. But then you're probably one of those people who doesn't think the younger guys should be elevated at all, and thinks that JBL is something other then a giant wart on the bottom of the WWE and professional wrestling in general.

"Enjoyed the HELL out of the Beth-Santino bit. That was awesome. Those two showed more charisma in two minutes than John Cena has for his entire career."

Yeah, Cena is so quiet and dull, no real energy from the guy at all. You know who else didn't have any charisma? Hulk Hogan. The Rock, too.

i hope they pull a "pulp fiction" with kane's bag and never reveal what's inside.

Posted By: Guest#7251 (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:54 PM

I love you idiots that keep crying about CM Punk's burial...uh no shit you think WWE doesn't know what they're doing.

They are booking him shitty so he can become a FUCKING HEEL. Derrr the fans aren't going to get behind him and then all of a sudden he's going to cut an AWESOME heel promo against the fans, thus making him extra hated even more so.

Posted By: Kent Baker (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:56 PM

cm punk will be the champion until wrestlemania...thats what they are building up to...

everyone doubts, he doesnt get a real win for a while...but..cm punk will never die!...

Posted By: grizzly (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 12:07 AM

Santino may not deliver in the ring, but he's gold on the mic and his mannerisms are a highlight every week. I think the Punk storyline needs more time to get where it's going. Build his frustration. The whole I can win clean if people would stay out of my matches. It could lead to the old heel Punk so many want to see again. Kane will be remasked as a one more run type deal. The guy isn't getting any younger and it will get the nostalgia pop. I could be wrong and none of this will happen, but I took the time to watch and write this so they're doing something right.

Posted By: Brimstone34 (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 12:08 AM

Cm Punk heel turn is a must, i agree. He is capable of heelish submissions and can cut a decent promo which will be a benefit. Cena looked a bit scared when he acccidently it Batista lol,

Ain't no stoppin' BROWN NOW!!

PEACE!

Posted By: THE BOMB! Down with the brown? (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 12:20 AM

RAW IS JERICHO!!!! On a show with a lot of decent mike-work, Jericho shown. I don't mind how they're booking Punk. He is smaller than all of the other top guys. It's at a point where you know something is going to happen to prevent him getting a clean win but it's not always a sure shot. Would Beth Phoenix have a shot against Kong? (just thought I'd throw that last one in)

Posted By: Charlie (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 12:21 AM

What the fuck ever. I love how people are justifying the burial of Punk by saying he's never been pinned. How many times has he won a match, while champion, clean? It's always some bullshit DQ, interference or distraction.

My whole point was that if they're not even attempting to build Punk as a credible champion. Batista is in his late-30s. Kane is in his earlier 40s. You'd think if they were truly looking towards the future, they'd give groom some of the younger talent as AT LEAST a credible talent.

All they're doing right now is reinforcing the idea that you have to be a certain size to be a credible champion.

Posted By: Guest (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 12:22 AM

"All they're doing right now is reinforcing the idea that you have to be a certain size to be a credible champion."

Uhhhh, yeah no shit...Dude this "love" for these mid card, carnie looking, I jump through hoops of fire, and will jump off the roof of the building to get a pay check guy is a trip. THIS IS A BIG MANS GAME, THE ATTRACTION OF WRESTLERS IS THEY ARE LARGER THAN LIFE, NOT SMALLER THAN MY NEIGHBOR TED. To be the champ you should be a big, bad ass, motherfucker, that would get his ass kicked at the local bar. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?

I agree with your assessment of Kelly Kelly, But I think it's hilarious that for all her in ring improvement, she was the weakest dancer in Extreme Expose and can't win a dance off without removing clothing.

The match part of the main event was pretty good. Punk did a good job demonstrating more then his usual set of moves, and Batista did a good job selling them. I wish that They didn't end in DQ though.

The 6 man tag was good, but I think last weeks was better. Saw more out of Dibasie this week though, which was good. But I think it's time that Cody started expanding his arsonal, he wrestles like a rookie who's going to have a good future a head of him, His rookie year is up. Now he needs to start trying to cause some mark out moments, and a missile dropkick isn't going to cut it as your most high risk move, a DDT isn't going to cut it as your finisher, and a side bear hug isn't going to make us beleive anyones going to tap out.

Not that I agree with burying the tag champs, but I found it pretty humorous how Cody just flew off in the double FU, with seemingly no effort from Cena.

So if the rumors are true, and they are building to Kane returning to his former masked self, do you think they'll let him grow his hair back?

I always thought he looked goofy with his head shaved the way it is.

I like how they're involving wrestlers Michaels has trained in the feud. It's a brilliant way to build to the future. With Simply Priceless getting a lot of air time and CM Punk the champion Raw definitely seems to be building for the future, even if we saw the return of D'Lo and Jim Duggan...

The Santino/Beth Pheonix thing also is pretty interesting.

I don't know what to expect for Summerslam. It seems like it will be a multiman match. I hope its not an elimination chamber, because we just saw two at NWO. Maybe you could have a six man Hell in the Cell for the WHC. It would be like Armageddon 2000.

Or you can have something similar to WM 10. Have Punk defend his belt against JBL. Then have Batista VS Cena, with the winner facing the winner of the earlier championship match.

And the Punk burying continues. Had JBL not come running to the ring, man tits swinging ever so gracefully in the breeze, Batista would have won. Again. Either do a Punk heel turn, get the belt off of him, or start treating him like an actual WORLD CHAMPION, because this is not the best reintroduction of Big Goldy to Raw.

Back to back DQ finishes!!! This is a new RAW! Wrestling is dead.

In all honesty, at least they're giving Punk a shot with the belt. I think time will tell whether or not his run can't truly be called a failure. Yeah, he's not been booked as a dominant champion, but it would look a bit strange for him to dominate guys like Batista when he was losing (not always, I know, but quite a bit) to lesser-established stars on ECW for the past year.

Can we call Batista the Buffalo Bills of the WWE? I mean how many times will he get a shot at the title? Really whats his record in title matches like 3-10, 3-15? If anything it shows the E likes the look but they're scared to put the main belt on him unless they have to.

I was 5th row, filming side for this. Enjoyable as always, but there really seemed to be a lot of stalling. I really feel like the writers didn't have much tonight, so they threw together what they could and really stalled for time. The crowd around me seemed to agree. No "Boring" chants, but a lot of groaning by the end of most segments. The live crowd was VERY hot for the six-man and the main event, though.

People sure are passionate about their hillbilly ballet these days, with all the capital letter shenanigans and general goings on.

I can certainly see the point that wrestling is a big man's game, but wrestling in general has never been one to conform to the rules of common sense.

Many of the most celebrated champions in the history of wrestling were guys that weren't "big guys" - guys like Ric Flair, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

My whole point, however flawed and one-sided as it may be, was that there needs to be diversity on the roster.

If the big guys always win, and the smaller guys never pose a threat, then what would be the point of guys like Paul London or Rey Mysterio even stepping in the ring?

Some may argue that's where heel tactics come into play. But for some people to relate (and retain interest) in the product, there needs to be certain individuals who normal people can relate to.

Yeah, CM Punk is not a huge dude, and in a shoot fight with Batista, he may very well get his ass handed to him. Then again, with his background in martial arts, he may very well be able to take Dave down.

It just gets really tiring to see guys you know can put on an entertaining match, pushed into a role that downplays their abilities. Yeah, yeah, I know that comment will generate a lot of "waaah waaah" comments about the "proverbial glass ceiling" excuse.

Of course, the obvious choice to alleviate my frustrations is to stop watching the product or to simply stop bitching on the internet.

For the time being, I choose the latter.

"Bigger" does not always equate to "tougher".

"To be the champ you should be a big, bad ass, motherfucker, that would get his ass kicked at the local bar. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?"

It's not difficult to grasp, just difficult to accept, since matches involving "big, badass MFers" usually conform to the punch-kick-spinebuster-spear-powerbomb snoozefest formula that are as exciting as watching paint dry.

Until the Great Khali pins CM Punk with one foot, I don't think anyone should be complaining about how bad Punk's being buried.

"So if size justifies laying out the champion, why isn't the Big Show the lord and master of all things WWE?"

Because there's only one man who is Lord and Master of wrestling, and that man's name is... Sid Viscious.

Or something like that Sid used to say, I'm too lazy to look the actual quote up. His interviews were always enjoyable.

And you can cry about it all you want cm puke groupies FACT IS the crowd WAS ENJOYING each second of Punk's decimation !

Listen again to the THUNDEROUS POP Batista got for spinebusting the IWC Poster Boy

Yeah Tne Animal was giga OVER and anyone in the arena wanted him to pwn punk for the 1-2-3

Keep crying about him "getting buried" while he is enjoying a PUSH with a WWE WORLD Title thanks to Jeff Hardy .

D-Lo Brown is back!!! Seriously who gives a fuck, he wasn't anything special during the "Crappitude" era and he's nothing special now. How is WWE's mid card shaping up if it’s basically nonexistent?

Q: Who from the mid card wrestles on RAW on a regular basis in a match that goes over three minutes?

A: Nobody as the entire show is devoted to JBL, Batista, Cena & burying CM Punk and a few sloppy botchorama diva matches.

I hate to break it to you folks but WWE hasn't booked logically in years, Vince McMahon is a hack still running on money he's secured from republicans not smart enough to understand it's a work and an industry he only made successful because he threw in celebrities to earn the interest of the same time of people who read tabloids, there is no such thing as "Pro Wrestling" in WWE its only supposed entertainment.

Fuck WWE and I hope they destroy Punks credibility by continuing to bury him and make him look incapable week in and week out so then in five years when attendance is at a new low, ratings have decreased to the point TNA is neck to neck at 1.0 they have only themselves to blame for being so petty and selfish instead of creating a new star.

Just how many more shots at the title is Batista going to get before they finally let him have it back. The should be renaming the title matches "Batista gets screwed again".

Yeah I was there last night. What a waste of time and money. Don't say HBK is gonna be there and than tease the crowd with his music. Funny in Ultimate Warrior's DVD, Vince says that you can advertise something and not deliever (speaking of Ultimate Warrior no showing). I guess that was BS huh? Costumer doesn't matter at all. They did not even have another match when it went off air! Nothing special for the people who went to see it live. Instead I have to hear Cena over nicing it to win the cheers of the women and children.

Besides being trained at that HBK Academy, what's so special about Lance Cade? Really, everyone gets down Shelton Benjamin's throat, but hasn't Lance Cade been around just as long as him ( as Garrison Cade ) and hasn't he received the same set of pushes as Benjamin? Matter of factly, I find it funny. I " know " Benjamin at this point and I " know " what he can bring to the table. But Cade? Despite how long he's been with the E, I still don't know much about him. So, what is all this talk about failed pushes?

Posted By: Quatah85 (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 08:42 AM

I almost forgot that Cade has been there since 02. Keep in mind that Cade has someone who can probably politic for him backstage while Shelton is...just Shelton. I think he's come into his own with the Gold Standard gimmick though. Whoever said Kennedy is the only one getting buried is dead on. Most of the midcard that seemed to be the "future" isn't doing much. What happened to MVP?

- Santino is gold

For all the people who talking about the "appeal" of the big man . Yeaah here's the thing .......BIG MEN ARE CLUNKY IN THE RING!!! Think about it every hoss that has stepped into that ring has been horrible with the exception of Brock.

Test...

Nathan Jones...

Bryan Clark...

Heidenreich...

Matt M-m-m-m organ

Travis Tomko (he's improved tho)

A-Train ( see Tomko)

Need i Keep goin on..

Great Khali

Giant Gonzales

Batista when he first came out

Thats why the IWC dosen't pop the provervial boner for big guys cause they cant go n the ring.

Just cause the dudes are big dosen't mean they're monsters in real life shoots. Some big dudes have been bitch smaked in real life when fightin smaller guys. Seee (Pillman, Brian Vicious, Sid Squeegee)

Sheesh, it's not like Punk is Colin Delaney or something...it's interesting that I don't remember Misterio catching any of the heat that Punk is. Personally, I was tired of seeing the same champions over and over. But I'm not sure if Punk was the correct choice. As I mentioned previously, it's going to be very difficult for him to use his signature move against much larger wrestlers. Misterio with the frog splash and the 619 didn't have that problem.

Batista and Trips are the only steroided freaks that haven't been ostracized by the company, because they still get pops. Hardy, Umaga, Kennedy, Misterio, have all dropped a rung on the championship ladder because of their affiliation.

As much as Mark Henry has little to no wrestling skills, I'm glad to see some new blood with the belt. (New as in never held the title before).

As far as D'Lo is concerned, isn't he the one that botched the move that caused Droz to become a quadraplegic? Or was it Droz' fault? Or a combination of the two? If someone can enlighten me on this it would be greatly appreciated.

biy they really have no faith in punk. He get bitched out the raw before the ppv, and now can't get a clean win over batista even after batista brawled with kane and the show closes focusing on feuds between cena batista and jbl! they are making the batista/kane batista/jbl and batista/cena feuds bigger than the world title! wtf?

Sad that they're burying CM Punk. But, I'm digging a lot of other stuff on this show. There's a lot of interaction between several angles here. And, that provides fodder for several great matches.

I would like to also see a elimination chamber match at Summerslam. With Punk, Batista, JBL, Cena, Kane but I dont think it will include Jericho. I think that they are going to still continue this Jericho/Michaels fued, even though it is getting a little stale. I think that Jericho/Punk fued in the near future would be good. Jericho is more Punks size and It would be more believable then Punk/Batista. I also think with TNA releasing Kaz that the WWE should try to sign him. He would make a good Intercontental Champion.

He's won 3 titles, but he's won several title defenses once he's gotten them. If you only include actual wins as a challenger everybody not named Hogan or Triple H's record sucks. you include title defenses and it's clear that Batista wins more matches with the belt on the line then he loses.

People who say D'Lo didn't get any heat obviously didn't watch the show. There was a massive "Let's go D'Lo" chant as well as a huge pop when he won the match.

Anyone else think we're building towards an Elimination Chamber match at Summer Slam? C.M. Punk and Batista are still feuding over the belt, but "monster Kane" has added himself to the mix. JBL wants the belt and so does Cena, and they both have unfinished business with each other. Just add Y2J to the mix (assuming that HBK wants some time off over nagging injuries and won't be back for a few months) and the Chamber match is all set. Could be a good way for C.M. Punk to get OVER and set up future title programs... assuming HE RETAINS, of course.
