411's ECW on Sci-Fi Report 8.05.08
Posted by Shawn S. Lealos on 08.05.2008

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am not Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. I am Shawn S. Lealos and I will be filling in for Michael for one more week.

Matt Striker is subbing for Tazz tonight and we are in Atlanta.

LAST WEEK: Ricky Ortiz beats Chavo Guerrero by disqualification and then Evan Bourne ran in for the save.

Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely vs. Evan Bourne and Ricky Ortiz

Todd Grisham: "He's called Evan "Air" Bourne. Striker name drops some legends right off the bat, to prove his wrestling education. Ortiz attacks Neely and Guerrero immediately and then locks Neely in a arm bar for Bourne to drop his feet onto Neely's arm. That was awesome. Neely runs and makes a tag to Chavo. Chavo blocks one move but gets hit with a Bourne head scissors and then a fujinama arm bar. Ortiz is tagged back in and hits a flying shoulder tackle. Striker: "Ortiz is the only wrestler to ever play in the XFL." Neely interferes and he and Chavo take Ortiz down. Neely works on Ortiz and then brings Chavo back in who gets a two count after a hard forearm. Ortiz fights back. Neely tagged in and Ortiz gets the hot tag. Bourne with a few big thrust kicks. Bourne up top, "Holy Crap!" a double knee to a standing Neely's face. My God! Bourne dropkicks Chavo and Ortiz takes him out. Bourne with a unique looking rollup on Neely for the pin.

Winners: Evan Bourne and Ricky Ortiz

COMING UP: The Dirt Sheet!

Last Tuesday Hornswoggle got pinned by Morrison and Miz and then Mike Knox laid out Finley.

MIKE KNOX is in the ring with a microphone. He is not here to explain to us why he did what he did. But he wants to show us the fraud called Finley. He shows the old promo with Finley and Hornswoggle dancing in a field. He says to laugh at it because it's a joke. Finley used to be one of the toughest men in the business. Now, he spends his time dancing around with a leprechaun. That makes Knox laugh.

Here comes Finley and Hornswoggle. The two dance at the entrance and Finley is still smiling. Finley agrees it was a funny clip. He calls Knox "Fred." When he is corrected, he says he doesn't care if his name is Fred or Rufus or Barney. Finley loves to have fun with his family. He tells Knox to go ahead and take a shot. He offers to turn his back so Knox can jump him again. The jacket comes off! Finley: "Go ahead, take your shot. But you better knock me out because if you don't you'll find out whether I've gone soft or not." Mike Knox walks out.

RAW REBOUND: Cena and Batista beat an actual tag team for the tag team titles. Yea.

Armando Estrada vs Tommy Dreamer

This is the last chance Armando Estrada has to earn a contract with ECW. The two exchange wrestling holds. Dreamer with a nice hip toss and an arm drag. Arm bar by Dreamer. Armando tries to fight back but Dreamer with another hip toss and then clotheslines Armando out of the ring. Dreamer tries to bring Armando back in with a suplex but Armando drops Dreamer's neck over the top rope. Armando misses a clothesline and Dreamer takes him down. Armando in the tree of woe and Dreamer sets up his trademark baseball slide dropkick. He never gets the chance because Colin Delaney runs down and grabs a chair. Dreamer sees him and Delaney leaps over the announce table in fear. Dreamer back in and sets up for a DDT. Delaney up on the apron and Dreamer grabs him and sends the kid into the steel ring post. This allows Estrada to roll up Dreamer for the three count. Striker compares Dreamer and Delaney to Zbyszko and Sammartino. Funny stuff.

Winner: Armando Estrada

FACT: WWE gives free tickets to Military Personal for its live events.

BACKSTAGE: Colin Delaney congratulates Armando Estrada. Estrada asks why he would help him after all the crap he put Delaney through in the past. Delaney said at least Estrada gave him a chance. Teddy Long shows up and sets up Colin Delaney to face Tommy Dreamer in an Extreme Rules match.

SMACKDOWN REBOUND: Edge puts Foley through a table.

BACKSTAGE: Braden Walker (Chris Harris) is walking.

Braden Walker vs James Curtis

Savio Vega trained James Curtis. Walker gets NO reaction. Walker with a hip toss and a big suplex. The announcers make it sound like the two are young newcomers to the ring in general. Curtis is also a boating man, according to Striker. Walker with an arm bar. Curtis punches Walker and starts with clubbing forearms right as someone in eh audience starts chanting boring. Inverted Atomic Drop and a slow clothesline. Another geriatric clothesline by Walker. Flying Clothesline by Walker to Curtis. Walker tries for a suplex but Curtis with a knee and some fists to Walker. Walker with another clothesline. Perfect Plex gets the win for Walker. God that was a horrible match. What happened to Wildcat Chris Harris? He looked horrible and slow here.

Winner: Braden Walker

THE DIRT SHEET WITH JOHN MORRISON AND THE MIZ

The #1 Show on WWE.COM will soon become the #1 Show on ECW. Their first guest is Mark Henry. They use the Conan O'Brien joke of having the face on the screen with someone else's mouth supplanted over it. The make fun of Henry by having him just grunt. Atlas was their next target as he rapped that Hippity Hippity Hop song. Henry: "Me hungry. Grrr. Eating make Mark strong." Morrison: "No, eating makes you fat. I think you have a gland problem." Next up was Lena Yada: "Gross. Big fat sweaty men gross. I love Morrison and Miz" She them blows kisses. Morrison shows his abs and the girls squeal. He then makes fun of the belt extension Henry needs for the championship. Mark Henry finally comes out to the ring and he is pissed. Miz and Morrison said they were joking but Atlas is pissed and said it was not smart to disrespect and make fun of the World's Strongest Champion. Miz and Morrison apologize and put Matt Hardy's face on the screen. Morrison calls him Jeff and then acts confused at why it is Matt getting a shot instead of Jeff. Matt talks like Forrest Gump and says he has never been number one at anything, not even in his own family. Matt comes out. Matt claps and says it was brilliant. The fans love Matt Hardy. Matt Hardy says it must be great Morrison and Miz are such big Conan O'Brien fans. Great! Matt then says he loved them in Brokeback Mountain. Matt also says he earned his shot by beating Morrison and Miz. He calls himself a winner and Morrison and Miz losers. Matt lays out Miz. Morrison tried to hit Matt but Matt moves and he hits Henry instead. Henry lays out Morrison and then hits an avalanche. Matt hits the Twist of Fate on Miz. Matt and Henry stand face to face to end the show.

im gona get this before anybody else. Striker = ratings!

Matt Striker > Adamle, T-Grish, M. Cole and yep even JR!

Sucks though because I was really hoping to see Striker, Santino and Noble form some sort of stable which would have been comedy gold.

Although the best sign i've seen in wrestling history was "Mike Knox suxx coxx," I must say that Mike Knox fucking roxx. The feud with Finley has the potential to shine on the ECW brand.

MnM 2.0 need the belts back, They are too dam classic to be without the gold, especially when you take a look at the rest of the tag division.

I must admit, ECW has been pretty entertaining as of late. I just hope they let Henry rip through the roster for the next few months before dropping the belt and hopefully putting over an up and coming star, not Matt freaking Hardy.

Striker .... fucking impressed me!

Striker as Color commentator RULES!!!

Matt Striker has a new job and he's good at it.

I had no clue what the hell Dirt Sheet was but I was impressed. They were funny as hell. But one part came from either Striker or Grisham and that was after MnM2.0 made fun of Matt, Striker (I believe) said why does he sound like Forest Gump and I fell out my seat laughing. Good stuff I want more Dirt Sheet in the future. btw, put these guys on RAW and let Simply Priceless be champs on Fridays because they need to be exposed to more then 1.4 worth of veiwers

How do you think comments make me feel? You want me to be out of a job?

Posted By: Tazz (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 12:06 AM

I must've missed why Striker was subbing for Taz. but he's a good wrestling nerd, and did a good job.

Bourne Is amazing! I can't wait for him to go against Gregory Helms once Helms returns. Ortiz didn't actually do too badly either, but Bourne is the one who's gonna be something.

The rest of the show wasn't that good though. Walker can't get any heat and looks fat.

Dreamer deserves better then to be the only guy who Estrada could beat without previous softening up! I never got to see him back in old ECW, but he's payed his dues, gone through lots of dumb stuff and has been a true company man. Hacksaw Jim Duggin is older and less agile then Dreamer, and he won a lot of matches on Heat. Dreamer didn't even get that!

The Dirt sheet just doesn't translate to a live audience well. Still Morrison's comedic Timing and delivery is perfect. "No Mark eating makes you Fat" if he wasn't a wrestler he'd be a star in Sitcoms. while Miz does a good job as the crazier more energetic one.

They've got good chemistry together, but Morrison is the better wrestler and it's time for him to allow Miz to tag along as a sidekick (I don't think the partnership has to disband for Morrison to chace ECW or US gold), instead of carrying him as a partner.

You can say Striker was good, but the whole remark of estrada going back to the hardware store to wait for the "job truck" was a little bit racist IMO.

Posted By: Alex (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 12:10 AM

I think Striker could actually be a better play by play announcer, that's how good he is.

Posted By: Michael (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 12:17 AM

Grisham is not a great commentator. However, he worked really well with Striker.

I think it benefits both men to work together. Hopefully it's a permanent pairing.

"Bourne Is amazing! I can't wait for him to go against Gregory Helms once Helms returns."

I hadn't even thought of that. That would be an awesome feud.

Wusupwitdat?

Since when is Finlay not spelled with an "a" in WWE?

Tazz was absent from ECW tonight because he was actually JR's partner on commentary for the smackdown tapings. Now the bigger question is where the hell was foley.
Could he of possibly quit already??

"MnM 2.0 need the belts back, They are too dam classic to be without the gold"

Don't worry they are still the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in recent history and they will always be it.

If this was the first time you watch The Dirt Sheet and you like it then you need to go on Youtube and watch the first 26 episodes of the The Dirt Sheet since tonight was a special live version.

It is greatness.You must watch!

No, they kept Foley off tonight to sell the angle from last week's show.

Posted By: Rob (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 01:17 AM

Striker even busted out a fucking Tenryu reference. This guy knows his shit.

Posted By: Guest#9000 (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 01:19 AM

Great episode of ECW tonight. Striker was good on commentary, especially it being the first time doing it (Foley's selling the beating Edge gave him on Smackdown last week...that's why Tazz is subbing for him and wasn't on the show) and Grish compliments him fairly well.

Nothing was bad tonight, but the Dirt Sheet delivered as advertised. Miz and Morrison have proven their worth as a team on the mic...all they need is a really good PPV match to get them over, from good to great in the ring.

Classic lines:

Morrison: "Hi, I'm John Morrison...and People Magazine offered me 15 million dollars for pictures of myself as a baby...I passed."

Miz: "You turned them down?"

Morrison: "John Morrison is not for sale."
---------
"I thougnt we got the other brother. Matt Hardy? Really...?"

Matt Striker is AWESOME! Hell i think hes good in the ring, but the man is just gold as a commentator

Posted By: Brad (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 01:28 AM

It's Finlay genious, learn to spell the names of people, ecspecially when they show on the screen.

Posted By: chris (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 01:31 AM

I thought of Foley missing the show due to selling injuries after I posted. Even though I hope thats not the reasoning behind it. Think about it, this man is supposed to be the most hardcore wrestler in the history of the WWE. He has survived sick bumps and chair shots from the likes of the Undertaker, The Rock, and HHH, yet one little table bump from Edge puts him on the shelf from broadcasting a week later. How about when the King just got his ass kicked by Kane and was there the next week, or all the times Jim Ross has been abused and returned right away(Not counting getting set on fire).

Posted By: SneakerRock (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 01:33 AM

SneakerRock

I wouldn't call going through a table while a 240+ (I don't remember how heavy edge is) throwns himself down on you and drives a chair through your chest, a slight bump, even by Foley standards. With all of Foley's injuries, anything that big had to (Kayfabe) rattle something.

Posted By: Davis (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 01:56 AM

The DIRT SHEET ruled and it equals ratings. That was the best ECW promo this year so far. Matt and Mark Henry were used really well.

Striker was awesome tonight, they might want to keep him and Grishiam together and add Tazz to Smackdown with Foley and JR for a three way announce team.

Braeden Walker sucks to me. Fucking 80s wrestler.

Impressed with Ortiz and that Evan Bourne gets me excited.

A+ on ECW 2 Nite.

I am absoutley in favor of A 3 man announce team om Smackdown of Tazz JR and Foley, I have always thought A 3 way was better.... And nobody has mentioned yet how the new Slikster T Long will obviously be making A Tag match next week of Matt Hardy and Fat Albert against Lavern and Shirley OOOOPS I mean MIZ and Morrison, Shlameazle Shlamazel Hosta Incorperated! All I wanna know is where is Lenny and Squiggy..... No wait thats Duece and Domino!!!!!!

"It's Finlay genious, learn to spell the names of people, ecspecially when they show on the screen."

Irony is fun.

I was at this taping and had a blast.

We did give Walker a little pop for his entrance, and yeah, him moving in slow motion did not enamor him to the audience. Did it only sound like one person was chanting boring? Because I think my section was the only one not chanting it.

Matt Hardy got a tremendous pop and it was even louder after the show went off the air.

The Dirt Sheet was fantastic and Morrison was great. "Hey Mark, from here, your abs look fantastic." He's no promo God or anything, but anyway saying Morrison doesn't have some mic skills is deluding themselves. I did enjoy Matt stealing their "Be jealous" line.

Probably couldn't hear it, but a couple of us were screaming for Mark Henry to split some wigs.

Is Lena the only Diva/female on ECW? And we didn't even get to see her.

For my first live event, this was fun. I'll comment on the SmackDown portion when it airs, but the Jeff Hardy is so frickin' over, it's ridiculous.

I'm such a mark for Dreamer's music.

Oh yeah, there was a pretty good dark match with Ron Truth, using his "Wassup" TNA theme at that, beating Kenny Dystra with a scissors kick.

Can't wait until Raw comes in a couple of months. It's true what my buddies have been saying, there's nothing like watching this stuff in person. Things that might piss me off on my couch just didn't seem like a big deal with all the people and the environment.

The only slight disappointment was the lack of getting to see Evan Bourne hit the SSP. Bastard must have known I wanted to see it.

Striker was great! now watch as vince fucks it up and either never lets him to commentary again, or tells him he has to do a totally different style and NEVER give background information or call holds and explain psychology.

If bourne and ortiz stay together, i would hope that they begin calling themselves: the air and hair connection

Posted By: ron (Guest)  on August 06, 2008 at 12:29 PM

The AIR & HAIR CONNECTION = Ortiz & Bourne new tag team name!

I agree with Hot Pocket and E Bischoff, the 3-way announcer team is a great idea.

Wendell Mitchell thank you so much for giving us your experience at the show. I love to hear things from people's perspectives when they go to the show. Its so different when you're there than on TV. I think the trolls who never been to a WWE show need to go to one.

I'm glad Ron Killins is using his TNA theme as I love it.

Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy are totally over with the crowd and The Dirt Sheet looked great.

I love Tommy Dreamer's entrance music.

Braeden's need a new gimmick.
