Edge promises to take everyone to hell with him!
WWE Smackdown: 8.08.08
-We get a video package of last week's Cutting Edge, where Edge destroyed Mick Foley.
-JR welcomes us to the show, and THE TAZ is filling in for Mick Foley.
-The Smackdown Divas make their way to the ring for a Special Olympics Match. They are dressed in various sporting outfits. Maryse is a tennis player, Victoria is a gymnast, and rocks some summersaults. Natalya represents horseback riding. McCool is a volleyball player. I love women's beach volleyball. Cherry is a boxer, I'd play with those fun bags. Maria, is a skier. You see it's the summer Olympics, and since she is stupid she doesn't realize this. HARDY HAR HAR.
Michelle McCool, Cherry and Maria vs. Maryse, Victoria and Natalya
McCool and Natalya to begin. Lock up and a hammerlock by McCool. They trade some arm holds, McCool then gets a Russian leg sweep for 2. Knees by McCool, back flips off the ropes and then gets a dropkick. Knees by Natalya, but McCool cartwheels out and tags in Maria. Double team clothesline for 2. Side headlock takedown by Maria, elbows by Natalya, off the ropes and a boot to Maria. She tosses her to the floor, cheap shot to McCool and Cherry is in and gets a hammerlock DDT. Victoria in, Widow's peak on Cherry. McCool back in, kick to Victoria. She gets tosses, bulldog by Maria to Mayrse. Natalya in, sharp shooter on Maria and she taps.
Winners: Maryse, Victoria and Natalya @ 2:45 via Submission
Way too short to really mean anything. They did some stuff, we had finishers and Natalya got the win over Maria, as it should be. The Judges Say…
USA 3.0
France: 0.5
Russia: 2.5
China: 1.5
Japan: 1.0
-They are rough tonight kids, especially that French bitch.
-Chavo, Vickie, Ryder and Hawkins find Bam Neely knocked out backstage with a black rose laid on him.
Yang and Hawkins to begin things. Side headlock by Hawkins, off the ropes and Hawkins face plants. What the hell happened there? To the corner, tag to Moore and he takes control and gets a cover for 2. Arm bar by Moore, tag to Yang and a dropkick connects and a cover for 2. Rights by Yang in the corner, Hawkins takes him down with a clothesline to the back of the head and tags in Ryder. Elbows and rights to Yang, a neck breaker and a cover for 2. Neck crank by Ryder, Yang counters a slam and covers for 2. Sunset flip try, tag to Hawkins and lays the boots to Yang. He'll cover and get 2. Suplex by Hawkins gets a cover for 2. Half camel clutch by Hawkins, Yang to his feet, gets a jawbreaker and before he can get a tag Ryder levels him. Well, he now gets the tag anyway, Moore cleans house. A leg lariat to Ryder, and then a top rope cross body follows for 2. Yang accidentally distracts the ref, double implant DDT on Moore, Yang tossed to the floor and that is all.
Winner: Ryder and Hawkins @ 4:30 via pin
Fare thee well Shannon Moore. It was fine, just a quick TV match to get the champs a convincing win. Moore and Yang are actually a better team, but since Moore is gone and Yang is still in the wellness doghouse, that means exactly jack and shit.
RATING: *½
-Eve is with MVP. He says the biggest blockbuster of the summer (MVP) will face the most reckless man (Jeff Hardy) at Summerslam. Eve brings up MVP bringing up Jeff's personal life and that he cost Jeff the match at SNME. We get footage. MVP says he sees what Jeff really is. He then says we never see what Hardy does to him, and he will face him at Summerslam and he doesn't have to beat him, Jeff will bet himself. He'll do what he does, and that is to be better than everyone else.
They circle to begin, lock up and to the corner they go. They then battle around the ropes, and the ref breaks them up. Lock up again, a wristlock by Jeff, Benjamin backs him up and takes him down. A seated headlock by Benjamin, Jeff battles to his feet and off the ropes goes Benjamin and he gets a shoulder block to Jeff and covers for 2. Back to the headlock goes Benjamin, into the chinlock and Benjamin has Jeff grounded. Jeff manages to get to his feet, elbows out, rights to Benjamin and then a knee drops Jeff. A side headlock by Benjamin, off the ropes now and a hip toss by Jeff. An Arm drag and Jeff works the arm bar. Benjamin gets to his feet, to the corner they go and he breaks, and then lays the boots and rights to Jeff. The ref backs off Benjamin and then he goes back on the attack. Snap mare and back to the headlock. Jeff again gets to his feet, elbows out and eats some knees by Benjamin. Off the ropes and a boot by Jeff, and a mule kick sends Benjamin to the floor. Basement dropkick by Jeff and then the big plancha connects. Jeff tosses Benjamin back in, follows and slams Benjamin. Jeff up top now, Benjamin is up and LEAPS up top and gets tossed off. SWANTON MISSES! Benjamin covers for 2. We'll head to a commercial @ 5:55.
We are back from commercial @ 8:45 with Benjamin still in control and working the headlock on the mat. Benjamin tries to keep Jeff grounded, but Jeff is up, escapes and is then taken back down and Benjamin covers for 2. Knees by Benjamin, to the corner and forearm strikes follow. Jeff back with rights, head butt by Benjamin, rights by Jeff and they continue to trade, goes for the whisper in the wind and Benjamin takes his legs out from under him, Jeff crashes and burns and Benjamin covers for 2. Benjamin works the knee now, to the ropes and begins the Flair style drops downs onto the knee. Chop block by Benjamin and a cover for 2. Elbow drops to the knee by Benjamin, grabs a single leg and DDT's the leg. Benjamin wraps up the knee with a leg scissors, and now goes to the single leg crab. He releases and drops the knee to the knee of Jeff. Rights by Jeff, Benjamin back to the knee and Jeff is back down. Back to the single leg crab again goes Benjamin. Jeff tries and gets the ropes. Benjamin breaks ate in the count and Jeff rolls to the floor. Jeff to his feet, and Benjamin follows and as he leaps down he is met by a kick. The count is on, Benjamin tossed back in and Jeff follows and delivers rights. Off the ropes and a clothesline by Jeff. Another clothesline and another cover for 2. Off the ropes again, wrap up clothesline by Jeff and another cover for 2. To the corner, whisper in the wind by Jeff! 1…2…NO! Jawbreaker by Jeff, Benjamin down in the corner and Benjamin catches the dropkick try and gets a powerslam for 2! Nice. Benjamin is up, stalks Jeff…pay dirt countered and the Twist of Fate by Jeff connects! SWANTON! MVP is out and KILLS Jeff with the Most Valuable Shining Wizard and we get a DQ.
Winner: Jeff Hardy@ 18:00 via DQ
A damn great match here. It got a bit repetitive, but really picked up and both men looked good. I don't particularly like the DQ, especially when you invest so much time into a match…BUT, Benjamin doesn't lose and it fuels the Jeff vs. MVP feud rather well.
RATING: ***½
-Chavo and Vickie discuss who is leaving the black rose, and Hawkins cannot find Ryder. They tell him to search for him.
~INDIAN BROKEN GLASS ARM WRESTLING CONTEST: The Great Khali vs. HHH~
BAH GAWD THERE IS BROKEN GLASS ON THE ARM WRESTLING TABLE! This is like Kickboxer, only not as cool. The ref gives instructions, but Singh says Khali has something to say. "Pum wirr poboaxat ug bel zo WWO titro axat zo Summolsraxam, focaxauso di axam zo DA ROOM Kloaxat Ghaxari pi je vaxan caxan poboaxat vo!" HHH says he has no clue what he said, and Singh says HHH should get out wile he is still the champion. He doesn't care that HHH beat Cena, Edge or Stone Cold. He has never battled the Punjabi Nightmare, the Great Khali. HHH mocks Singh's name and says that Singh should rub a lam until Khali goes back in where he belongs, because he needs protecting. Khali has never faced him, and while he has a plan and doesn't tell anyone, but he will tell them. He will take the two Slim Jims he calls legs and break them. And then he will beat him. So listen up Onion, there is not a damn thing he or the Jolly genie can do about it. Please suck it.
HHH stretches now, and they stall for a bit, their wrists are strapped together and finally get down to it. HHH spits in Khali's face, gets control but Khali battles back. OVER THE TOP HHH! OVER THE TOOOOOOOOP~! HHH now comes back and is about to win, but Khali head butts him. Khali beats him down, unties him and goes for the Khali Bomb, but HHH escapes and HUNTOR makes the comeback, goes for the pedigree…Khali escapes…JUDO CHOP! SOOTHING HEAD MASSAGE BY KHALI! HHH fights it forever but finally takes a nap. Singh says that at Sumerslam Khali has two words for him, Game Over!
-Hawkins is shown laid out, with a black rose on his chest.
-Tazz and JR speculate on who could have done this. WAS IT STING?
-We get another video package on R-TRUTH.
-Vickie and Chavo talk backstage. Chavo says Zack, Curt and Bam has all been laid out with black roses. They know who it is, and they are scared. They need to find the only person that can help, Edge. Chavo says if they don't that they are next. Vickie refuses, but Chavo says he will do the talking for her and find him. Be careful Chavo.
-Vladimir Kozlov is out to enlighten us on his political views, and says he is undefeated and demands better competition.
-Jesse and Festus answer the call.
Vladimir Kozlov vs. Jesse
The bell rings, Festus goes bat shit and Jesse tells him to leave as he will battle the Russian. Big boot by Kozlov, chokes out Jesse in the corner and then head butts and an overhead toss. Rights by Kozlov, shoulder rams in the corner and then boots by Jesse. A dropkick to the knees, and a cover for 1 by Jesse. Jesse up top, leaps and eats the head butt. That's all.
Winner: Vladimir Kozlov @ 1:25 via pin
-After the match Kozlov stares down Festus and leaves.
-Chavo says Edge has agreed to come and see them, but Vickie has to be nice. Vickie rips a rose apart and reluctantly agrees.
Super Crazy vs. The Brian Kendrick w/Ezekiel
J.I.P as the DVR cut out on me, my apologies. Kendrick with the camel clutch, cross faces and a kick by Kendrick. Charging kick by Kendrick gets a cover for 2. A snap mare and kick by Kendrick, tries to ground Crazy but he gets to his feet, fights back and a back elbow by Kendrick. He charges in and Crazy with a tilt a whirl back breaker. Flapjack by Crazy, and the standing moonsault gets 2. A slam by Crazy, goes up top and is distracted by ZEKE, and Kendrick gets THE KENDRICK and that is all.
Winner: The Brian Kendrick via pin
What I saw was fine, as THE Brian Kendrick keeps rolling on. They really need to get him into a feud soon though as they can only do this for so long. SEE: Kozlov, Vladimir.
RATING: *
-After the match THE Brian Kendrick gets his jacket back and ZEKE breaks Crazy in half with the torture rack.
-Edge meets with Chavo and Vickie. Chavo hugs him and Edge is all-sweet to Vickie. Chavo keeps the peace, and Edge says they can see past all this. She is having none of it, Chavo convinces her to chill and Edge says they will get past it all. What happened to La Familia happened to them all. He has a plan, but they have to do it his way. Chavo agrees, and Vickie does as well.
MAIN EVENT INTERVIEW TIME
Edge, Chavo and Vickie all make their way to the ring. Edge and Chavo have chairs now and are ready for battle! Edge looks like a mad man and calls out the Undertaker! He says if he takes out the members of his family, well then STRIKE ME DOWN with your special powers. Make the lights go out! That's what he thought. They are ready for him. He has Chavo place Vickie in the corner and he calls out Taker again. He then drops a chair and LAYS OUT Chavo with the other one! Vickie screams at Edge as he slams Chavo into the chair on the mat. He then sets up Chavo and CONCHAIRTO TIME~! Edge then turns to Vickie as she screams, pulls her back to the center of the ring and teases dumping the chair. He stops, and then does it anyway!
He grabs the mic and crawls over to Vickie, who is hysterical and asks what is wrong? He says she looks nervous. The person she needs to worry about…is him! She put him in Hell in a Cell like it is a punishment, Mick Foley was right, THIS, THIS, THIS is the Edge that needs to go to Hell in a Cell! The Undertaker wants to take him down, well, he will pull him down to hell with him! He will take the entire family with him! And Vickie, more than anyone else, he will take HER down to hell with him!

Good Smackdown.
Edge SCARES me! that was Norman Bates crazy!
I love how they are Pushing Kendrick, excuse me, THE kendrick. have him win his own matches, but Zeke proves that he's there to help with minimal interference, and a tough looking post match beatdown. I hope this is a push for both and not just Zeke's introduction.
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 10:11 PM
I flipped back and forth between SmackDown and the Olympics ceremony, but I watched all of that final great segment. Edge's facial expressions were awesomely creepy.

Evil Edge Fuckin' Owns
Posted By: dave k (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 10:20 PM
Damn fine show tonight, especially the closing segment and Hardy/Benjamin. Edge was gold AGAIN this week in the closing segment.
Posted By: The Lone Wolf (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 10:43 PM
really? a fucking arm wrestling match? wtf? really stupid and pointless shit i've seen. and the HHH promo was weak.
Posted By: Pauly Shore (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 11:09 PM
I must admit; Edge is a grade-A douchenozzle, and I'll hate him until the end of time for screwing Matt Hardy...but his most recent promos have just been absolutely amazing. Who else could even come close to the amount of heel heat he brings on?
Posted By: Guest#1137 (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 11:12 PM
I just hope that come Summerslam, Edge will not be a coward heel when he face The Undertaker in a Hell In A Cell.
Posted By: AndTheyCallYouTheBigShow (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 11:28 PM
The last promo was great stuff. Except I had a horrible image in my head of Chris Benoit saying the same thing to Nancy. I'm sorry for bringing it up. It's just what that whole thing made me think of. (Also, I missed the whole show, except for that segment, and called the Edge chair shot from the get-go.)

THE Brian FN Kendrick!!!
Posted By: Guest#4985 (Guest) on August 08, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Great match between Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Hardy. I think it's gonna be hard for MVP/Jeff to top it at Summerslam.
Edge is on fire right now...playing all of his roles perfectly.
Posted By: Mark (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:01 AM
Edge I think tonight showed us one of the best heel promo I've seen in a long time. This was the kind of scary shit we havn't seen in a long time. Edge is the kind of scum you can hate without a second thought and isn't afraid to show his ass when it comes time. Randy Orton was never this good. Edge=Epic Win.

Edge for Joker in the next Batman movie?
Posted By: m8 (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:20 AM
Edge is the best in the business today, bar none.
Posted By: RaiderHorde (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:23 AM
is prinze writing for edge?
Posted By: timmy (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:28 AM
edge is like the joker if you think of it.
Posted By: wow (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:33 AM
am i the only one who actually felt bad for vickie tonight lol. i know it's not real but still.i have never been creeped out by a heel wrestler until this promo. awsome.
Posted By: johnny (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:35 AM
is Kendrick that dumb kid in high school who struts with stupid clothes and is the only one that doesn't know he's a tool?
the strutting is ridiculous, his attire is poor-man's Morrison ... and in NO WAY is he a Pillman or HBK type, just a wanna-be... maybe they wrote him too strong, ... or he just sucks... but then again, you call yourself Spanky and suckiness is bound to follow...
Usually the stable turns on the heel, kinda cool to see the heel turn on the stable... cool Smackdown... except for Spanky-fuck-nut....
Posted By: theHomewrecker! (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:36 AM
Enjoyable show as usual. Im the only one that thinks Vladmir needs a new finisher? not only does the headbutt look weak, but its a concussion waiting to happen.
Posted By: DP (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 01:06 AM
Screw off, The Kendrick is a phenomenal gimmick.
It's ridiculously old-school booking, and Kendrick plays the part perfectly. It's as if they're taking an 80's gimmick and putting on a cruiserweight with charisma who can really wrestle.
I'm watching the match against super crazy and it just make me think "One day I'm going to see this match again and laugh that he's on the undercard against a jobber."
Posted By: JR (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 01:06 AM
Whatever. The Kendrick is freaking hilarious.
Posted By: Patrick (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 01:08 AM
Pretty good show. love how THE Brian Kendrick is getting a push, he was always a great wrestler but now we're seeing he's probably the most well rounded guy to come from HBK's school when it comes to mic work & character & Edge is one of the best heels to come along in years (I'd even have to put him above Jericho at the moment.
His Cutting Edge deal with Foley was awesome and was followed up by a great segment this week, if Edge doesn't win WoTY this year then somethings REALLY wrong in these here parts
Posted By: PJ (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 01:21 AM
edge is like the joker if you think of it.
Posted By: wow (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:33 AM
This. All I could think of was The Joker while Edge flipped shit. I loved it.
Posted By: Tony S. (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 01:35 AM
hopefully summerslam will be good
Posted By: I'm Charlie Haas Dammit!!! (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 01:38 AM
Doesn't anyone here find odd Edge decided to imitated the joker since TDK release ?
It's anything but a "coincidence" to me .
After getting dumbed by "La Familia" he decided to modify his character and is now playing a sicko heel .
You can't act like a "coward" in "Hell In A Cell" anyway .
No doubt the match will deliver BIG TIME and I do hope the psychotic Edge will do ANYTHING to upset the Dead Man aka TAKING A HUGE BUMP !!!!!
A shame he is gonna do the job though , at least we will have two goldmines after Slam
HHH (c) vs The Undertaker and Edge vs Jeff Hardy
Posted By: Guest#6918 (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 03:19 AM
Edge = AWESOME!
This was a promo where I actually said (aloud) "WOW!" After it was done.
Edge is fantastic...I prey he wins HIAC...Even though I see he he has zero chance.
:/
Posted By: The Peter (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 03:54 AM
I didn't catch all of the show tonight, just bits and pieces, but to further the Edge-Joker thing, I noticed last week that in their recap of Vickie bringing back Taker, the music sounded a lot like the Dark Knight soundtrack.
Maybe Edge will show Taker a magic trick...
Posted By: Hawkeye (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 04:19 AM
am i the only one who actually felt bad for vickie tonight
Posted By: johnny (Guest)
I was at the show and I think me and six people were the only ones that sorta did. There was a lot of cheering when he flipped her out of the wheelchair.
Anyway, very fun show made better by the fact I was there live. My God, I can't think of anyone as over as Jeff Hardy right now. I couldn't hear myself think during his match. People were cheering headlocks man. And there were a few kids in my section that wanted MVP dead for interfering.
Koslov is not a bad wrestler at all. After the taping, Edge challenged HHH to a match for the World Title. When HHH came out Edge told him that he ran the show and that he decided that HHH should have a match first. Out comes Koslov and they put on a pretty spirited bout with Koslov showing he could have some decent matches in the future. HHH won with the pedigree and Edge immediately speared him. Then he took off his shirt and demanded the bell ring. Nice back and forth match after that until Edge took advantage. Once HHH turned the tides with a spine buster, Edge said screw this, left and took the count out loss. So HHH Pedigrees Koslov (who was still out there) again. We pop, he poses, and we start to leave. I did catch him posing with the kids on the floor level so that was cool to see.

When you really think about it... Edge is nothing like the Joker at all. Wow, that's weird.
Posted By: Dr Domino (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 07:36 AM
I think Benjamin's push may actually work at least the in ring product I mean
Posted By: Colin (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 07:37 AM
BTW, Edge gets Heel of the year if there is an award for that
Posted By: Colin (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 07:38 AM
Sounds like a good show & an awesome finish > i really gotta catch this show.
Posted By: jbardo (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 08:21 AM
I don't think H's V Undertaker would work and I think the people with power agree with me..

I want violence against women!!
Posted By: jon caplan (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 10:52 AM
Hands down, Edge is the best Heel in the WWE today; Jericho and Orton aren't even in the same stratosphere anymore. Edge may even be the most intense WWE Heel since Triple H circa 2000, during his first major Main Event run (while feuding with Foley, Rock, Angle, Austin, etc).
Posted By: Why so Serious? (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Damn it's good to see crazy Edge again. They better beef up the faces on this show cuz the heels are getting too good. You're only as good as your villain. See Flair, Ric.
Posted By: fishstix68 (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:00 PM
Edge is NOT a believable heel. I can't wait for Orton to come back and show people how a REAL heel works.
Posted By: VKM (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 12:43 PM
Kinda odd that they promote (Raw and SD Rebound on ECW) Edge vs 'Taker and Cena vs Batista matches instead of the title matches.
Of course, we all know that these non-title matches will be far more entertaining tan the title matches.
Posted By: Steve (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 05:07 PM
Edge is a great heel, and tonight's promo was very good, but does anyone else wish he'd turn down the Ledger love? Sure, Ledger's performance is pretty good but I don't need to see it ripped off in a wrestling ring - EDGE IS BETTER THAN THAT!
That's right, I'm NOT ragging on Edge or Ledger, I just think Edge shoud be gunning more for vicious, calculating Edge and not full-on sick f**k Edge. He's created a really strong character over the years, with some distinctive takes on the classic manipulative heel, and I think that suddenly hopping on a cultural bandwagon diminshes that character. Edge is not just main event talent, he's the top heel in the WWE and he doesn't need to play his character so overtly like the Joker to get himself over. (though I bet he's loving every second!)
Still a great SD! - The La Familia stuff was all really good despite my reservations about Joker-Edge: THE Brian Kendrick and Zeke delivered the goods in the ring and on the stick (and Tazz and JR both worked really hard to put them over): Kozlov is still being built slowly but well, and now seems to be heading into a doozy of a first feud with Festus (the irresistable idiot vs. the immovable iron-skull): Shelton vs. Hardy = solid gold awesome for a TV match: ex-Major Bros match was solid and rebuilt their characters as wrestlers after a lot of time outside of their regular tag-team environment: HHH vs Khali was a fine promo: Divas look good in skimpy costumes and weren't given too long so the match didn't descend into the threatened 6 girl clusterf**k.
Posted By: evil_dave83 (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 11:27 PM
why the heck doesnt umaga take on Vladimir Kozlov if he wants a challenge. gosh
if their trying to make Vladimir Kozlov into the same gimmick as goldberg their doing it the wrong way. -.-

How long before THE Brian Kendrick vs THE Boring Russian?
If it happens, I give the win to Kendrick as he's a good talker, and we know what's most important in the 'E.
Why they didn't give him promo time during the first say, ten months of his WWETTT reign is beyond me.
Posted By: Mr Quimby's Beard (Guest) on August 10, 2008 at 07:02 AM
A+++ to WWE creative for the Edge, Vickie, La Familia angle. In an age when feuds are often manufactured and then disappear in the blink of a PPV, this was as extended, well-developed and emotionally resonant an angle as I have seen in many years. (Ok, except for the Flair retirement angle, of course.) By destroying his 'familia', Edge thrust himself directly into tweener territory, transcending the boring limitations of the strict heel/face dichotomy. Real emotion and psychology will always beat special effects, hardcore bumps or steroids. Let's see more writing like this. Bravo to Edge and the writers!
