Fool Hardy once, shame on you. Fool Hardy twice, shame on him.
Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.
And we start with the highlights of the bullshit known as the ECW Title match from Summerslam this past weekend. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker at ringside as they hype up the rematch for Matt Hardy against Mark Henry tonight.
John Morrison, The Miz, and Chavo Guerrero (with Bam Neely) vs. Evan Bourne, Super Crazy, and Tommy Dreamer
The bell rings and Super Crazy starts with John Morrison. Morrison goes off the ropes and hits a shoulder block. Morrison off again and he reverses Crazy into a monkey flip. Super Crazy lands on his feet and hits a drop toe hold. Evan Bourne tagged in and Morrison gets the advantage and backs him into corner. Miz tagged in and Bourne gets decked by Bam Neely. Chavo tagged in and Bourne gets choked by the former tag champs in the corner. Morrison tagged back in and a modified backbreaker gets a two count. Morrison opens up with right hands on Bourne and tags in Miz. Miz chokes Bourne on the second rope and gets another two count. Miz with a modified chin lock and Bourne tries to escape, but gets pulled down by the hair. Bourne escapes from Miz and tags in Dreamer, who cleans house in The Miz and Morrison. Miz gets drilled in the corner and hits with a bulldog. Huge powerslam gets two for Dreamer. Super Crazy in to even the odds. Chavo charges Dreamer and gets dumped to the outside. Miz gets dumped to the outside as well. Morrison gets clotheslined outside as well. Super Crazy runs over and leaps Dreamer, connecting with a somersault onto the Tag Champs! Bourne heads up top and hits a shooting star press to the floor on Chavo and Bam! Morrison grabs the leg of Dreamer as Miz rolls in the ring. Miz nails Dreamer in the back and hits a neckbreaker. Miz gets the cover and the three count at 5:09.
Winners: Morrison, Miz, and Chavo
Backstage, Ricky Ortiz is walking to the ring.
Ricky Ortiz vs. Gavin Spears
Matt Striker notes that the rally towels are out for Ricky Ortiz, but he won't buy into him at all. Gavin is another guy for the "ECW New Superstar Initiative". His interview says that he has talent and doesn't need the towels. The bell rings and Ortiz back Gavin into the corner. Ortiz with a headlock and a shoulder block after being bounced off the ropes. Gavin works the arm with a wrench, but Ricky reverses with a back body drop. Gavin backs Ortiz into the corner and hits a back elbow. Gavin drops Ortiz on his fro and gets a two count. Gavin hits a bunch of knees and stomps the head of Ortiz. Ortiz locks in a sleeper hold and Ortiz is down to his knees. Ortiz is up and hip tosses his way out. Ortiz hits a forearm and a spinning back elbow. Ortiz connects with a dropkick right to the face. Ortiz lifts up Gavin and hits a huge powerslam for two. Gavin catches Ortiz and whips him into the corner, but Ortiz leaps over and hits a shoulder block from the second turnbuckle. Gavin is down and Ortiz hits the Big O Splash for the three count at 3:40.
Winner: Ricky Ortiz
Backstage, Mark Henry is warming up with the dumbbells.
Back from the break and the crowd goes into a frenzy with the arrival of Finlay and Hornswoggle. Finlay looks cheerful, despite all that Mike Knox has done lately. Finlay has a microphone and he thanks the fans before talking about Mike Knox. He says Knox has been telling everyone that he has gone soft because he is having fun, that he is a target. Finlay invited Knox last week and he turned away. He invites him out again and he doesn't have his shillelagh this week, so Knox has no excuses. Knox comes out the stage with a microphone and the crowd is all over him. Knox says Finlay says his point is proven that Finlay is scared. But Finlay says he is running his mouth from 100 feet away. Knox comes down almost to the ring, but then stops and says he will do it when he feels like putting Finlay out of his misery. Finlay then drops the microphone and rushes Knox and attacks. Knox gets rammed into the railing and the two keep brawling as officials come out to break the two up with little success. Knox gets busted open by a headbutt from Finlay. Knox finally is in a position to walk away and Finlay stops chasing him down.
Backstage, Matt Hardy is backstage warming up,
Back from the break, we go to ringside for Todd Grisham and Matt Striker. They say that despite a great SummerSlam, there was one really tough moment. Striker is at a loss for words and we go to the video footage of the Shawn Michaels/Chris Jericho situation. I have to say, that was a great promo all around. Back to Todd and they say that WWE.com reports that Rebecca has a broken jaw.
ECW Title Match: Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas) vs. Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy gets a huge ovation and Striker calls him everyone's favorite wrestler. He poses in the ring as we go to commercial.
Back from the break and before Mark Henry comes out, we get the video package from the beginning of the show once again.
Now Mark Henry comes out with Tony Atlas as Matt Striker puts over Matt Hardy's decision to try and beat Mark Henry in thirty seconds. We get the super special ring introductions after both men are in the ring. The bell rings as a huge Hardys chant starts. Matt Hardy goes to work with lefts and rights, but Mark shoves Matt into the corner. Matt ducks Henry and tries the Twist of Fate, but Mark shoves him off. Matt goes after the legs and drills Mark's leg into the ring apron. Mark Henry quickly gains control with a bodyslam, but misses a leg drop. Hardy with right hands and gets a pinfall for two. Mark shoves off Hardy, but Hardys keeps punching away until he runs into Henry. Henry with a clubbing right hand to take down hardy. Mark Henry stands on Matt Hardy's chest and whips Matt hard into the turnbuckle. Hardy again ducks Henry charging in the corner and tries the Twist of Fate, but he gets shoved off and dumped to the floor as we go to commercial at 3:25.
Back at 6:45 and Henry has Matt grounded with a neck vice. Matt uses his feet to escape, but he runs into a big boot after getting to his feet. Henry with another huge right hand and he goes back to the neck vice as the Hardys chants start again. Matt is up again and ducks a clothesline, but Henry blocks the side effect and swats Hardy to the mat. Hardy put on the second rope and Atlas with a cheap shot. Henry throws Hardy to the ropes, Hardy ducks the clothesline, but he leaps into the bearhug. Matt tries to escape with clubs, but Henry squashes him in the corner. Henry covers and gets a two count. Henry with the neck vice again, but Hardy elbows out to the leg he attacked earlier. Henry locks in a half nelson, but Hardy slides out and hits a double boot to the chest. But Henry drops him back down with a huge forearm. Henry with a gorilla press drop, but Hardy avoids the splash as Henry took time to laugh. Hardy runs off the ropes and hits a huge forearm. Hardy sent to the turnbuckle and he hits a boot. Hardy off the second turnbuckle and he hits a double axe handle for two. Hardy hits a flying cross body off the top for another two count. Hardys again measures for the Twist of Fate, but Henry shoves him off. Henry scoops up Hardy for the World's Strongest Slam, but Matt Hardy escapes. Twist of Fate! Matt Hardy covers. …1 …2 … and Tony Atlas again pulls Hardy off of Henry. The ref never saw it though. Hardy chases off Atlas and goes up top. Hardy goes up top for a moonsault, but Henry gets the knees up. Henry grabs Hardy and hits the World's Strongest Slam. Henry gets the cover and the three count at 13:30.

Very shocked that old Mizark could put on a decent match with Version 1.
Man I do miss those Matt FACTS. :)
Posted By: DocH78 (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:21 PM
That was a great match between Matt Hardy and Henry, they could have easily done this on the PPV but I'm glad I got to see it for free. Matt got screwed! DAMN YOU VINCE!!!!!
Posted By: HardyZFreak (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:21 PM

"Why wasn't this match on the PPV? The idiots....."
To give more time to some matches that turned out well with the extra time.
Posted By: Guest#8387 (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Yeah, that would have been a much better SummerSlam match
Posted By: William (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:28 PM

I've been trying to figure out the lyrics to Mizark's theme song.
I have it narrowed down to "Sombody's gonna eat a hamsteak!" or "Somebody order up some pancakes!"
Posted By: TheGrundle (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:43 PM
It's "somebody's going to get their ass kicked." Happy to help.
Posted By: Literal Jimmy (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:56 PM
20 minutes of wrestling. Remember the times where TNA would only put on barely over 10 minutes and they'd bitch about how you can't tell stories in an hour?
ECW Just proving them wrong every week.
Posted By: Guest#5159 (Guest) on August 19, 2008 at 11:59 PM
But the PPV was done by 10:45 to my recollection. That leaves enough time...
Posted By: JP Nichols (Guest) on August 20, 2008 at 12:00 AM
It's somebody's gona get their ass kicked by 3-6 mafia. That's Acadamy Award winners 3-6 mafia. To which is a fitting song and a hidden highlight from 2 weeks ago during the Live Dirt Sheet. As when you heard Triple Six come on after Mark was being made fun of to the tune of "Somebodys gona get their ass kicked."
BTW what the hell was up with the cut off sleves on Atlas? I don't think you can find that suit at the Mens Warehouse. Or does he really need the money that bad that he can't afford a $20 dress shirt from Target?
Posted By: TJ (Guest) on August 20, 2008 at 12:03 AM
Maybe Mike Rotunda (IRS) lent him the sleeveless shirt? Should have lent him some suspenders, too!
"Somebody's gonna eat a hamsteak! Mmmm!"

"Dreamer gets pinned by a neckbreaker? what da hell...."
That's Miz's finisher, the Reality Check. It's basically a leaping neckbreaker. Sure it looks weak, but if one of your 'monsters' uses a taped thumb as a finisher, it's going to look stronger by proxy.

Not a bad Main Event at all.
ECW has been so good lately it made Mark Henry a better wrestler.
Posted By: Kalvin (Guest) on August 20, 2008 at 12:27 AM
I said that Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy would suck and I was glad that the match was bad at SummerSlam.
Well tonight they made me eat my words and I'm happy because I got to see a good match out of Mark Henry and Matt Hardy was the man to get one out of him
Posted By: Dab (Guest) on August 20, 2008 at 12:30 AM
very good WWE Superstars....er I mean ECW tonight! was watching this while flipping back to the Bob Saget roast...haha, friggin classic!

Super crazy!!
Posted By: Schizophrenic Psycho (Guest) on August 20, 2008 at 12:46 AM
I gotta say, that was a great all around episode of ECW. Heavier on the wrestling, with some storyline advancement, new faces, and just plain fun. The opening match was sweet (If Bourne kicks any more ass I may have to start praying to him) and the main event may have been better than it had any right to be by way of featuring Mark Henry (expect that Worlds strongest slam reversal into the Twist of Fate to make a comeback if Hardy eventually does win the ECW title).
I'm willing to bet that Vince is leaving the ECW bookers to their own devices...ECW (and pretty much any WWE show in recent years) has been best when McMahon takes less of an interest in it.

Yes and no. Perhaps the PPV providers request WWE to stop their events 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time is over. It's also a failsafe by the WWE to make sure they don't go over their allotted time since things could happen - like rumors claimed that Punk/JBL was supposed to be longer, but they rushed to a finish once they cracked heads and Punk got busted open.
Posted By: Guest#2377 (Guest) on August 20, 2008 at 03:50 AM
"Bourne heads up top and hits a shooting star press to the floor on Chavo and Bam!" Bourne hit a high moonsault to the outside, not a shooting star press. Although that might have been nuts to see, it would also have been extremely dangerous to do.

Mizark H. > Matt Hardy

Mark Henry vs Matt Hardy in a 20 minute time limit. Henry scores one pin, Hardy wins 97 times by dq.
"the winner of this contest by a score of 97-1 Matt Hardy ... HOWEVER because a title cannot change hands by disqualification, STILL ECW Champion Mark Henry"

A couple days before Big Daddy V got released I got the idea to change John Cena's "Bad Man" lyrics to "Fat Man" for Vis.

They still could have cut the promo vidoes down a bit, a recap is nice but they already showed them during the free for all. A less than 1 minute match ending in a DQ was idiotic.
Oh and Henry is definately getting heel-manager-itis.

Mark Henry isn't really that bad a wrestler for his size.

"I'm willing to bet that Vince is leaving the ECW bookers to their own devices...ECW (and pretty much any WWE show in recent years) has been best when McMahon takes less of an interest in it."
It seems like the weekly show is booked by ECW guys, which is why its usually the best of the four main televised wrestling shows each week, and then the PPV matches are booked by McMahons, which is why we get BS like Summerslam.
