Jericho overcomes Punk, but has bigger problems...
Raw starts now.
Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler are your hosts.
The cage is coming down! Ominous music!
World Heavyweight Championship, Steel Cage Match: Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk Win by pin fall, submission or escape
Big fight feel here. They go nose to nose and talk trash. Butting heads now.. Right blocked by Punk, rights by Punk. Jericho runs into a knee to the gut. Mounted rights and knees by the challengers. Stomps to Jericho, forearms in the corner and now an Irish whip back into the corner. Knees by Punk, whips Jericho who scales the cage. Punk runs up and pulls him back. They brawl on the top rope now. Kicks by Punk, roundhouse to the head and Jericho falls to the mat. Punk goes up, Jericho recovers and grabs a a leg and pulls Punk back in. Punk falls down, yanks Jericho off and fires off with rights and a knee lift. Punk shoots him off and connects with a leg lariat. Running knee in the corner… bulldog connects! Go2Sleep attempt – blocked. Elbows by Jericho, but Punk tosses Jericho into the cage. We go to a break…
And we come back with Jericho wrenching in an ankle lock. Punk gets to one leg and hits an enzuigiri! Slaps and chops by Punk, but he gets taken down and Jericho tries for the Walls… and gets it! Punk fights but is in the middle of the ring. Instead of crawling to the ropes, he decides to crawl through the door. Punk is almost out but Jericho manages to pull the door into Punk's head to slow him down. Jericho covers and gets a 2 count. Jericho goes right back to the leg, just kicking below the knee joint. Rights by Jericho now to a downed Punk. Jericho goes for the Lionsault but hits the knee of Punk. Kick to the chest by Punk, and again, and a third time! Running misses and Punk goes into the cage. Jericho hits his springboard dropkick to send Punk back into the cage wall. Jericho climbs up the far side. Punk is up and grabs a leg. Punk tires a Go2Sleep on the top rope but it's blocked. They brawl on the top rope again. Jericho bounces off the cage, Punk off the cage and both men fall to the mat. Punk covers and gets 2. Both men up, but it is Jericho who tosses Punk into the cage again. Jericho goes up to the top, is half way over the cage but Punk is up. Punk pulls Jericho back into an electric chair and hits an electric chair drop from the top rope! Both men down. Punk crawls for the door. Door is open, Jericho grabs his leg. Jericho crawls over the top of Punk and tries to get out. Punk pulls him back and heads for the door. Headbutts to the back of the head by Jericho. Jericho up against the cage wall, shots by Punk. Jericho knocks Punk down and climbs out of the cage.
Winner: Chris Jericho
The replay shows that Punk slammed Jericho's head into the cage, and it rebounded into Punk's own head, causing Punk to fall.
Batista watches on from the back.
Tonight – Kane vs. Rey Mysterio.
Mike Adamle chats to Kelly Kelly. A new guy whose name I didn't catch (Dolph Ziegler?) comes by and shakes their hands and leaves. Chris Jericho is here and doesn't want to talk about No Mercy. He talks about everything he has been in through in the last eight days. He says Mike needs to take care of his champion. He is a human being. Jericho wants to go to the office to explain a few things.
Elsewhere, Kane has his old mask back on. He mentions being forced to remove his mask, but no one forces him to do anything. He did it for all of us, so he would be accepted. Unmasking got him nowhere. He doesn't like being pointed at or being ridiculed. The people repulse him. He sees Rey Mysterio as a man who doesn't have the courage to do what he did. He says the fans hide behind masks of happiness. We all pretend to care about our fellow human beings. When he attacked Mysterio, he was attacking the fans. Evan Bourne tells Kane he can't wait to watch Rey beat Kane tonight. Kane laughs it off.
Jillian Hall is out to sing some Elvis, because we're in Memphis. Aptly, she sings Hound Dog. Up next, Jillian goes one on one with Candice Michelle.
Candice may have the worst theme song ever.
Candice Michelle vs. Jillian Hall
Beth Phoenix is out to watch the match. They shove, lock up, side headlock takeover by Candice. Michelle gets a knockdown and then telegraphs Hall. A springboard kick gets 2. Jillian blocks a crucifix and drops Candice for 1. Jillian pulls some hair now and then chokes Candice in the ring ropes. Boot by Jillian. Hall tosses Candice into the corner and chokes her with her boot. A little hair pulling action follows. Jillian applies a full nelson, and the fans want puppies. Candice fights back, sits out and drills Hall with a boot. Forearm exchange now. Candice gets a couple of knock downs and a dropkick. Michelle gets a hair-pull takedown for 2. Jillian blocks an Unprettier and hits a back suplex. Forearms by Hall now. Hall hits a handspring elbow, but it's blocked and Candice hits the Candy Wrapper (Unprettier) for 3.
Winner: Candice Michelle
Candice wants Beth in the ring. Beth in but Candice dropkicks her right back out to the floor. They stare down and Candice stands tall.
John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Tommy Dreamer
Only one winner here, folks. Lock up, into the corner, no clean break as JBL pummels away at Dreamer and hits a nasty boot the face. Clubbing blows and a scoop slam by Bradshaw. He misses an elbow but hits a big boot. Rights in the corner by JBL. JBL runs into a boot and Dreamer fires off, then hits a swinging neckbreaker for 1. Dreamer misses a charge and eats the Clothesline From Hell for 3.
Winner: JBL
JBL isn't done though. He grabs a chair but the referee tries to stop him. JBL unfolds the chair and takes a seat. He grabs the microphone, puts his feet up. He tells Mike Adamle he isn't leaving the ring until he is made number one contender.
After a commercial, JBL continues to try to persuade Adamle. JBL runs down the people and their opinions.
Randy Orton is out now, my official man crush. Orton mentions his promo a few weeks ago where he ran down the champions. That's why he took out Punk. Big "RKO" chants. Orton says JBL isn't much of an improvement. The Age of Orton was cut short due to injury, but it is only a matter of time until it resumes, and when it does, it doesn't matter who is champion because he will once again become world champion. And then finally, there will be a champion with credibility.
Santino Marella is here! With Beth Phoenix! Ha, this is too great. Santino wants to know who he thinks he is. Santino points out that they are champions, and that they are healthy. Santino says Orton is always injury, just like his daddy. He points out the cast. Santino's papa is always healthy. Sure, he did have the herpes, but he managed it well. Glamarella represent a new age of champions, so he should apologize. Orton doesn't care if he's hurt, he will take… JBL tells him to apologize… not to them, but to him. JBL asks how his shoulder is. He says Orton has become irrelevant. Last week, JBL took out Batista with one move. Tonight, this is his time. He's staying until he gets a title match. Take the base out of your eyeballs. He would hate for something to happen to his shoulder.
Batista is out! Before he beats the hell out of all of them, he has to say that this is the most pathetic thing he has ever seen. He calls them a bunch of politicians. Like Barack Obama said, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. Santino says Beth may sometimes squeal, but she is not a pig. Batista proposed JBL vs. Batista for tonight, and then Batista vs. Jericho at No Mercy, and then when Orton is fit, he gets taken out too. Santino says didn't he forget someone, so Batista says Beth can have a title shot too. Batista challenges JBL to go right now. Mike Adamle says he will make an announcement regarding the number one contender later on tonight. Batista says he will plead his case now, and attacks JBL. Orton bails. Spinebuster for Santino! JBL escapes! Batista and Beth Phoenix stare down! Slap by Beth! And again! SPINEBUSTER!
In the back, Orton exchanges glances with Simply Priceless and Manu.
Simply Priceless and Manu vs. Kofi Kingston, Jerry "The King" Lawler and Jim Ross Haas
Genius. Charlie shouts off. All I could understand was boomer sooner. Ha, he hypes the BBQ sauce!
Kofi and Manu start. Kofi gets overpowered early and floored with a head butt. Kofi slips out of a slam and hits a dropkick. Rhodes in, but he gets monkey-flipped. Lawler in with a kick to the gut. Right by Cody, but he gets telegraphed, shot off and back dropped. Dropkick by The King. Rhodes begs off and sends Lawler into the turnbuckle. A bulldog gets Rhodes a 2 count. Rhodes rides Lawler and works him over as Jim Haas goes over to do some commentary. King makes a comeback. Haas in, wipes out DiBiase with rights and a couple of clotheslines. Dropkick by JH andd a Thesz Press! Haas hits a big splash but it's broken up. Things break down, the ring is emptied save for the legal men. DiBiase counters the Oklahoma Stampede and hits the Million Dollar Legsweep for the 3 count.
Winners: Simply Priceless and Manu
The SmackDown Rebound sees Jeff Hardy become number one contender, only to be beaten down by Vladimir Kozlov.
Chris Jericho is in the dressing room when JBL shows up. He says they aren't friends but they were impressive last week. Jericho points out JBL cost him the title last year against Orton. Adamle respects his opinions because he is the champion. If this is Wall Street, he isn't investing in any JBL title matches.
Jamie Noble vs. Paul Birchill w/ Katie Lea Burchill
Jamie is a sad panda. Boot by Noble and rights. Shots by Noble and boots now. Noble gets a knock down and a couple of stomps. Head butt by Noble now. Knee to the gut by Burchill and an uppercut. Noble avoids a charge and Burchill gets poster. Noble slingshots into a roll up into a cross armbreaker and Burchill taps!
Winner: Jamie Noble
Layla is out and says last week was a difficult decision. She is sorry… that it has taken this long to actually get rid of him. It's over, because now she has found a man who is worthy of her… William Regal is out. It's not Noble that she wanted, it's nobility.
Batista interrupts a conversation between Mike Adamle and Lance Cade Cade gets mouthy so he gets tossed against the wall. Batista wants to be the number one contender.
Lawler says Kane has multiple personalities, and none of them like Cole. Nice.
Kane vs. Rey Mysterio
No crazy ass Mohawk, but Rey Rey is flying again this week. Does he realize how silly he looks?
Kick to the quad by Rey. Shot to the gut. Kane backs him into the corner and tosses him into the buckles and drills him with a right hand. Shoots him off but runs into a boot. Rey springboards but gets caught… rana blocked, but rights by Rey and he comes down on Kane. Uppercut by Kane though. Kane chokes Rey on the middle rope and hits him with a measured boot to the head. Kane tosses Rey under the bottom rope, but Rey rolls through and lands on his feet. Kane out, Rey in and hits a dropkick to knock Kane to the floor. We go to a commercial…
During the break, Rey hit a Tornado DDT off the apron, but got caught with a big boot later. Back live, Rey fights out of a chinlock but gets scoop slammed. Rey avoids an elbow and hits a kick to the head and a dropkick. Mounted punches by Rey, shoved off, more mounted punches. Kane tosses Rey into the steel ringpost now. Kane puts the boots to him. Kane hits a backbreaker now and goes for the submission. Rey kicks his way out of the hold but gets pummelled in the corner. Rey avoids a big boot and now knots up the thighs. Mysterio wheelbarrows into a bulldog, connects with a low dropkick and gets a 1 count. Head scissors take over sends Kane into the turnbuckle. Rey up top… comes off, gets caught, but Rey shoves Kane into the buckles and hits an enzuigiri! 619 is blocked as Kane hits a clothesline. Stomps by Kane now. The referee counts 5, Kane won't let up and we get a DQ.
Winner: Rey Mysterio by DQ
Kane continues the beat down and goes to the mask! Evan Bourne makes the save though! Rey and Bourne double team Kane! Flying double knee attack by Bourne! Seated senton by Kane!
Backstage, Lance Cade and Chris Jericho walk! That new guy introduces himself to them again.
Tomorrow night on ECW – Finlay vs. Mark Henry
Chris Jericho is here, with Lance Cade. Jericho thanks Mike Adamle for respecting his opinion. After all, there is an important decision to be made. There's been a lot of talk. The fans want Batista. Jericho says neither he nor JBL are worthy for a title shot, so he suggests Batista and JBL should fight at No Mercy, and after that match he'll come down and face the winner for his championships. Jericho says he had two matches at Unforgiven and became World Heavyweight Champion, because he is the best in the world. He is in a league of his own. He wants Adamle to do the right thing.
Mike Adamle is out and says that would be more than fair. At No Mercy, JBL will face Batista, and the winner will be the new number one contender. But the winner will face the champion on a different night. Adamle says Jericho will have to defend the title at No Mercy. He was approached by someone else, someone who had an idea for a title match that was too exciting to pass up. Adamle introduces Jericho's No Mercy opponent… SHAWN MICHAELS!
Michaels has a microphone and says they've already fought in several matches… what more can they possibly do to each other? How can they top themselves? What match will allow Shawn to permanently disfigure Jericho? There is a match that some people say he put on the map. Some say he revolutionized it. It's a match that will allow him to win the World Championship…. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho, for the title, in a… he has guys from the back bring out a huge ladder! Shawn climbs to the top, and says it will be a Ladder Match!

Holy shit, Kane did a seated senton?
Posted By: Guest#4870 (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:13 PM
It would be a dream if Michaels and Hardy both became champions at NM, but I doubt it happens.
Posted By: Cody Dalton (Registered) on September 15, 2008 at 11:13 PM
i thought hbk was injured
Posted By: jeff (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:14 PM
What a lousy show
Posted By: Hobo Bebop. (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:14 PM
I went nuts when HBK's music hit.
Me in that moment = Epic mark!
Posted By: Peter (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:16 PM
This sounds like a first to me. A World Championship being on the line in a ladder match at a PPV. Can anybody else recall when that's happened? We've had Tag Championship and Intercontinental Championship ladder matches, but this sounds unprecedented.
Posted By: Dwayne (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:16 PM
Would you people please stop mentioning my name. I'm trying to be retired and get high on a normal basis.
1 more thing I would never sign a contract with WWE unless Colin Delaney was General Manager
Posted By: The Real RVD (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:19 PM
WOW, imagine if Jericho & HBK can top Razor and HBK? That would be amazing
Posted By: DP (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Well, Punk got jobbed out quick then.
Posted By: Big C (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Hope they make Kane vs. Mysterio and Bourne. And Bourne will somehow screw Mysterio then they feud.
Posted By: Shoot (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:35 PM
What boring garbage. Nothing of note tonight, this show gets worse every week.
Posted By: The Drunken Race Fan (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:37 PM
GIVE PUNK A MATCH AT THE PPV!!
"Batista and JBL should fight at No Mercy"
Jericho IS evil, hopefully the awesomeness of Noble vs. Regal with counterbalance the suck of that match.
Posted By: scott (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:41 PM
Was the new guy Nick Nemeth?
Posted By: max (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:41 PM
"This sounds like a first to me. A World Championship being on the line in a ladder match at a PPV. Can anybody else recall when that's happened?"
I think WCW MAYHEM PPV, Benoit vs. JJ but that's just off the top of my head.
Posted By: scott (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:42 PM
I think the only time the World title has been in a ladder match was during the 2 out of 3 falls match with Triple H and Shawn way back when, but everyone knows that happened so Triple H could add the "I beat HBK in a ladder match" to his already larger than is possible ego.
Posted By: Guest#0699 (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:43 PM
I've really hated the WWE the past few years but
Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho in a Ladder Match yes Mcmahon finally gave me something I wanted I may be ordering my first WWE PPV since 2004
Posted By: random (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:44 PM
"WOW, imagine if Jericho & HBK can top Razor and HBK? That would be amazing"
Jericho's ladder match with Benoit was awesome so it very well could be.
Posted By: scott (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:48 PM
Well I'll be damned---Double Double E is putting on some pretty consistently solid shows. I will be looking forward to torrenting No Mercy a few days after the fact!
Posted By: Illegal viewer (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:48 PM
not only the triple h v hbk 2/3 falls match was for the wwe championship, but also the tlc match with edge v. john cena, edge v. ric flair, undertaker v. jeff hardy. ladder match title matches actually occur kinda frequently if the wrestler is known for ladder matches
Posted By: Guest#4666 (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:54 PM
Did anyone find out if RVD was a one-time deal, or what?
Posted By: Ken B. (Guest) on September 15, 2008 at 11:55 PM
My goodness, the banter between Batista, JBL, Orton and Marella felt like a dubious sitcom. I laughed so badly because it was just cheezy and silly.
I dunno if it's just me but I like the Regal/Noble/Layla feud and was happy to see Paul Burchill jobbed. I prefer his Pirate gimmick, I never like him as a heel. :P
Posted By: wildworks (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:02 AM
Technically the WHC Ladder matches involving Edge and Jeff Hardy were TLC Matches. So this would be the first time the World title was defended in a straight Ladder match
Posted By: CyberSocko (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:05 AM
"A World Championship being on the line in a ladder match at a PPV. Can anybody else recall when that's happened?"
June 1st, 2008 for starters.
I hate this "CAN THEY TOP MICHAELS/RAZOR???" talk. No they won't. Matches they set the standard so obviously are seldom topped. There have been HITC matches probably just as good if not better than Taker/Mankind, but everyone remembers that one because it was when the concept was still fresh and it set the bar so high. So, no, they won't. Case closed.
I look forward to the match but it worries me seeing Michaels do violent deals like this knowing the shape he has been in over the last couple of years. Hopefully they tone down the "OMG~!!!" spots for more basic psychology which knowing Michaels, is likely what they will do.
Posted By: Guest#1697 (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:06 AM
Also Victory Road 04 had Jarrett-Hardy in a ladder match for the title.
Posted By: Parker (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:07 AM
I was hoping for Hair vs. Hair, the ridiculous patch of hair on the top of his head is the only think keeping from the Hogan look and it's REALLY distracting.
Posted By: scott (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:20 AM
why is everybody forgetting Taker/Hardy... that wasn't a TLC match
Posted By: Joe (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:22 AM
What about Angle/Benoit at the Royal Rumble in 2003.
I guess that match wasn't worth remembering, unless this is WHC-only.
Posted By: DL (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:32 AM
Yeah, the new guy (Dolph Ziggler?) is Nick Nemeth, former caddy of Kerwin White and former Spirit Squad member.
Posted By: DaHumorist (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:38 AM
"What about Angle/Benoit at the Royal Rumble in 2003."
It wasn't a ladder match, which is what was being discussed.
Posted By: Guest#5085 (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:55 AM
"Technically the WHC Ladder matches involving Edge and Jeff Hardy were TLC Matches. So this would be the first time the World title was defended in a straight Ladder match."
There is no difference.
Posted By: Guest#3357 (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 01:03 AM
According to wrestlingherard.com, the new guy is Nick Nameth from the Spirit Squad. His new gimmick is Dolph Diggler (ala Dirk Diggler from Boogie Nights.)

I'm going to No Mercy and now I'm officially super stoked!! It's funny, last time they held a ppv in Portland, Unforgiven 03, Jericho was in a ladder match as well against Christian. It was the match of the night, and I'm betting this one will be too!
Posted By: KNessJM (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 01:12 AM
Thanks for the feedback
Posted By: Dwayne (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 01:13 AM
some of the matches mentioned were TLC matches, or three stages of hell, matches, or not on PPV. The Chris Benoit vs Jeff Jarrett match was not for the world title it was for the U.S. Title, and actually not even scheduled on the original card, someone no showed (WCW big surprise)...infact I do not believe the heavyweight title has ever been defended solely in a ladder match without some other weapons or tomfoolery...infact the only ladder match to finish a ppv (in the big two)with no other weapondry involved (that I remember) is souled out 99 tazer ladder match goldberg hall.
Posted By: b (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 01:18 AM
(Yeah, I registered. Easier to tell when it's me and not someone pretending to be me.)
Congratulations to Jericho for not ignoring continuity. He may have been shoved into a tag team with JBL by Adamle, and shamelessly used the advantage, but at least he let us know he hadn't forgotten the program from last year.
Posted By: Mina (Registered) on September 16, 2008 at 01:28 AM

just change batista/jbl to batista/jbl/punk
and turn bourne heel and a feud with mysterio
big show/undertaker
and thats my No Mercy

While you people are paying to watch ladder matches I'm watching them on Impact for free. Ha Ha losers
Posted By: TNA fan (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 01:41 AM
Excellent as much as I would've liked seeing Punk win the title back its wayyy too soon to do that and Jericho is too awesome of a heel to have a 1 week reign.

Raw's rating will drop! MNF RULED this week!

Mentioning RVD a good two years since he was relevent = EPIC PEOPLE WHO ENJOY GIVING RIM JOBS.
The ladder match will be off the chain BUT will HHH allow them to top his own defense against one Jeffrey Harvey?
Look for Jeffrey to almost die in a spot to make up for whatever the ladder match does.
However, aside from this announcement tonights show wasn't that great.
Posted By: Poopie (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 01:50 AM
Damn I wanted Burchill to win. He looked crazy with his new jacket and wild hair. I was thinking an 'enforcer' for his English buddy and his little English girlfriend.
No such luck.
We wish you luck in your future endeavors, Paul and Katie Lea.

My seated senton was the move of the year!
Posted By: Kane (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 02:16 AM
The most disturbing part of RAW was Batista's admission that he likes to beat a lot of guys.
Posted By: Darren (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 02:25 AM
The next big summer blockbuster: Back to the Midcard!! Starring CM Punk. Who wants to say WWE didn't fuck him over now?
Posted By: ambrose (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 02:32 AM
If TNA Fan is serious,he'll know that's one reason why a PPV will have high buyrates.Fans will pay to see the first ladder match since MITB at WM 24 instead of TNA showing ladder matches on free TV and still not having bigger buyrates than usual.
Simply put,HBK/Jericho at NM > A X-Division KOTH and AJ/Angle for Olympic Medals.
Posted By: gary year (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 02:50 AM
If you read the first post that asked the question, he asked if the world title was ever on the line in a ladder match ON PPV. Undertaker/Jeff Hardy was on Raw. Rock/Mankind 2/15/99 (which no one has mentioned) was on Raw. Granted, there is not really any difference between TLC and ladder match other than the name, but for matches officially titled "ladder match" for world championships on ppv in WWF/WWE, I think that only leaves the third fall of HHH/HBK. Although I'm sure there may still be one we've all forgotten about.
Posted By: Jeff (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 03:19 AM
Add this to the current No Mercy card
Taker vs Big Show
Kane vs Rey/Bourne
Punk vs Orton backstage/in-ring interview
I don't know if we can have a Benjamin/MVP/Kendrick for US Title since all of them are heels, but its cool nonetheless.
Posted By: raistlinmajere (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 04:06 AM
Everything involving Jericho was good, everything else was average or lame.
The end of the show was great tho, a ladder match between two guys who are great in ladder matches for the world title? thats No Mercy bought.
Posted By: jbardo (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 05:46 AM
Jerry Lawler can still work better than 90% of the wrestlers in the E.
Posted By: The Heartbreak Troll (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 07:11 AM
Overwhelming lack of Miz & Morrison.
Must admit that Punk's abrupt disappearance since he lost the title rematch is kinda unnervating. I for one sort of gain these vibes as if the writing staff had just said "ok, we gotta give this Punk guy a rematch... just whip a cage match quickly and toss him down to the midcard purgatory after that". Not that I hope to see that or anything, but c'mon. Orton didn't mention Punk at all. No backstage segment between the two. Nothing. As if Punk just vanished off the whole show since losing. I'm kinda getting concerned that there will be no Punk-Orton feud in the future. :/
Posted By: Ammoo (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 07:29 AM
Seems like another example of revisionist history on Vince's/Shawn's part...big surprise.
Fans will recall the Wrestlemania X Double IC Ladder match between Shawn & Razor Ramon (which he lost) and their rematch at Summerslam 1995 (which he won) BUT before that one at WM X in 1994, there was a match in July 1992 between Shawn & Bret "Hitman" Hart for the Inter-Continental Belt (one of their first one on one encounters) released on a Coliseum Home Video called Smack'em Whack'em (which he lost).
Yes, he was a participant in the first one on CHV and the first one on PPV, but he didn't revolutionize it all by himself. As I said Bret Hart & Razor Ramon had some part to play too.
Posted By: Rock 'n' Roll Man (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 07:54 AM
why no match ratings?
no point in reading any of the match recaps then..which means you are wasting your time writing it which is a shame
Posted By: hiro (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 07:56 AM
I enjoyed the show quite a bit last night. There's great potential with a lot of what happened. For one, I can see Regal, Layla, Burchill and Katie Lea forming an all-Brit stable that would help get Burchill over.
Hass continues to entertain. It's a shame such a talented wrestler has to do such a silly gimmick, but it's slowly getting him over, so its all good.
Jericho rules!
Also, I'm not sure who deserves more credit, the giver or the seller, but that clothesline that Kane used to block the 619 was awesome.
Posted By: Hawkeye (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 07:56 AM
There have been several World Title Ladder Matchs.
Rock Vs. Mankind WWE Title
HHH Vs HBK - 3rd Fall
Edge Vs. Ric Flair, Cena, Undertaker (TLC)

Last week, the World Heavyweight belt was all shiny and had all of its jewels. This week, it was dull looking and missing some of its jewels yet again. Perhaps, they're using two different WHC belts for whatever reasons. Btw, it's kind of hard not to notice this when the champion usually has the belt up close to the camera.
"Jim Haas" sounded a bit like "CHL" to me. I kept thinking Oklahoma (WCW's parody of JR) would also come out and try to do commentary. Then the real JR would also come out and knock Oklahoma out cold. Now that would be something to see.

What an amazing RAW, every segment from top to bottom was excellent, more of this please writing monkeys!

Is it just me, or did Batista show more charisma in tonight's interview than he has in his entire career to this point?

Jericho....Michaels....Ladder...
These are the kind of things that I usually dream about..

"John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Tommy Dreamer
Only one winner here, folks."
. . . the fans . . . ? BWAAAAA! I kill me!

The way HBK was talking about being able to brutalize Jericho more in this match, I thought he was going to say Hell in a Cell. Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped for the ladder. It was just a little disappointing, that's all.

"I'm going to No Mercy and now I'm officially super stoked!! It's funny, last time they held a ppv in Portland, Unforgiven 03, Jericho was in a ladder match as well against Christian. It was the match of the night, and I'm betting this one will be too!"
That was 2004.

"Seems like another example of revisionist history on Vince's/Shawn's part...big surprise."
Oh, for Heaven's sake. It's not like he claimed that he created the Ladder match. He has never claimed that. What he said was that he "put it on the map" and "revolutionized" the Ladder match. Neither of those statements are false.
Michaels was in the first ladder match of the WWF/E history with Bret. However, what put the ladder match on the radar of many fans was the Wrestlemania X match with Razor Ramon.
The term "revolutionize" means to bring about a sudden or momentous change in a situation.
By the definition of revolutionize, Michaels is correct when he says that he brought about a sudden and momentous change in a situation. The ladder match was seldom used, and never in a high profile arena. The match with Ramon made at Wrestlemania X brought it into the spotlight.
No revisionist history there.
Finally, there is absolutely no reason for the promo to have included either Bret or Razor. Neither man works for the company and this is a promo cut for the purposes of kayfabe and advancing the storyline.
But either way you look at it, there was no false statements made by Michaels in the promo.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. You people are fucking stupid!!! The guy was talking about the world heavyweight title so there wouldn't be any Edge vs Cena or Hardy vs Cena because those matches were for the WWE title. The only match I can recall was HHH vs HBK from 2002 but that wasn't a straight up ladder match because it was part of the 2/3 falls stipulation.

Charlie DibiHAASie needs to happen immediately.

I honestly thought hbk would say iron man match which would be unreal. but the ladder match will be brilliant. WWE have got to come up with a story for Punk cos he is getting buried.

I think the ladder match will be great between Jericho and HBK. My question is what will they do with Punk? Orton won't be completely healed for a while now so it would make sense for him to be involved against Batista and JBL, a match we've seen many times already.
I'm glad to see Dibiase getting the win. Maybe it won't be so farfetched to see him end the Undertaker's streak at WM.

Two things:
1. When Batista went into Adamle's office he said he had to ask him a question, then Cade spouted off, got choked, and then Batista left. He never asked his question. Stupid Animal.
2. If you didn't see it coming a hundred miles away that HBK would be announced as Jericho's opponent then you obviously don't watch enough wrestling.
I wish I could write for WWE, I would be all about the swerve and the bait and switch. you guys would love it.
Posted By: Dawson (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:21 PM
sorry gary they had a ladder match at ons just because its called TLC doesn't make it a non-ladder match.
You guys are way overhyping this match it should be good but not going to top some of the all time great ones.
Posted By: Guest#9651 (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 12:22 PM
goodness folks stop saying TLC not a straight up ladder match its the same darn thing TLC is suppposed to be the improved style since regular ladder matches were just being overdone just like HIAC was a step up from a cage match. Its the same darn thing don't be so darn gulliable.

What on earth did Paul Burchill do to for them to constantly make him look as bad as possible. He's a great talent but Vince just seems to want him to do badly. Perhaps he shit in both Stephs and Triple H's bags.

So... WHERE THE HELL WAS PUNK WHEN ORTON WAS IN THE RING?! DIDN'T HE COST HIM THE WORLD TITLE?! *ahem* Am I the only one who wondered that..?

Did anyone else notice when Santino said his father had the herpes but managed it well, one of the announcers started laughing, then his mic went silent? He must've been laughing at what Santino said and he either he took the headset off, or it was switched off from backstage while he was laughing. That made what Santino said even more funny.

I noticed this too. Normally the guy is the definition of bland on the mic (or in general, really), but last night he seemed surprisingly on. He keeps up that kind of wit and I just might be able to muster up an iota of interest in him. Maybe.

Yeah, we uh... actually did love it.
In 1997.
When you were booking the first time.

No, you get multiple World Title reigns for defecating in other peoples holdalls.
I just wonder why the E bothered hiring British wrestlers like Drew McIntrye, Seamus O Shaunessy and Paul Burchill if they are only going to use them as jobbers / enhancement / development wasters. It's a fair few miles from home and there must be more than enough jobbers in America.
Burchill will never be able to get any credibility in the WWE, it would take him years to build any up in TNA, so they only option is for him to get "Future Endevoured", go to ROH and look after Nigel McGuiness as an Enforcer.
Build up a smidgen of credibility, wait for the TNA call up, go there with McGuiness, by that time Regal will have three strikes and be working for Jarrett anyway.
Then we can have the British Invasion, Regal, Burchill, McGuiness waging war on wrestling by rebuilding the Empire.
Think about it. Attack Sonjay Dutt. He's Indian. Indians are ingrates due to casting out the British. Attack Sheik Abdul Bashir, he's brown, us British love to go bashing brown skinned chaps overseas. World X Cup, any Argentinians around? The Empire can chin them because of the Falklands, then, when the Empire has conquered the ingrates, they can move on to the biggest ingrates of them all - the Yanks. You know, those cheeky buggers who celebrate chucking our tea overboard every year. The Empire VS The USA.
Better than boring old Canada VS USA or USA V Mexico.
Bring in some of the other British wrestlers doing nowt too.

I was hoping he would climb tha ladder and it would end up being an iron man match. That would be unpredictable booking!
Posted By: Guest#6188 (Guest) on September 16, 2008 at 05:20 PM
Hahahaha, my friend and I were talking about the same thing (climbing the ladder and announcing an iron man match). I love a good ladder match but I love a good old fashioned iron man match too. I could see that as a 3 hour raw match, like Angle/Michaels was.
I thought they could have found a better way to layout the show. The cage match was closing material. Perhaps after the cage match michaels could have sat up the ramp on the ladder and announced it. I don't know, fantasy booking is pointless, I was just underwhelmbed by the layout. Kane/Mysterio seemed more appropriate to open.

No, better is if he announced that due to being a born-again christian he was going to have an interview with Sarah Palin to air next week. Then he could ask Jericho if he could top the publicity he'd receive for that. Jericho would go balistic realizing he'd be overshadowed once again by Michaels.

Wow! 86 comments here. Amazing!
A good Raw. No Mercy is gonna be awesome.

How about this..
HBK wins the title at No Mercy..
successfully defended his title against Batista/JBL at Cyber Sunday..
then at Survivor Series, the aformentioned Iron Man Match will occur, but on the end of the match, Jericho will apply the Walls and then immediately.. BELL RINGS! Screwjob 2008!
