Wacky TNA Title of the Week: The Return of Double J!
TNA Impact Begins…NOW!
-We get a video package from No Surrender.
-Tenay and West welcome us to the show and run down the card.
~SAMOA JOE SPEAKS~
Joe says at No Surrender he was taken to the limit by Angle and Cage, two of the greats. They may never get along, but he gives them credit for showing up and giving everything they have for the greatest title in wrestling. Sting, while we're out here busting our ass for the people, where are you? You're in your estate, having tea parties. We are here wrestling our asses off, where are you? Love or hate me, live or die, I will be in this ring defending the title. When was the last time you sacrificed anything for TNA? While we are traveling the world, you're at home. AJ Styles doesn't see his son, when did you last miss something for your son? At Bound for Glory it will be us, the air we breathe and the hate we share. You will ask for MY respect, and instead of my hand you'll get my size 13 boot kicking your ass all over the ring. It will be SHOWTIME, and get ready to take your final bow, and you can then kiss my ass!
-JB caught JJ earlier today. JJ has something to say tonight and he hopes Sting is listening.
-West and Tenay welcome us back, and say that Sting is on the way and speculate what Angle will have to say to JJ.
-Kurt Angle makes his way to the announce table. Angle says he has a message for JJ. They will cross paths tonight, and he will have something to say to him. He wants is gold medal back from AJ Styles. Security is out to escort him out.
AJ Styles and Christian Cage vs. The Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin)
AJ and Sabin to begin. Lock up, around the ropes and they break clean. Counters now, hammerlock by AJ and he slams Sabin to the corner. Float over by Sabin, arm drag by Sabin and then a dropkick by AJ. Tag to Cage, a whip to the corner and AJ gets some poetry in motion on Sabin, Cage covers for 2. Side kick by Sabin, tag to Shelley and rights to Cage. Chops by Cage, boot by Shelley and a face plant follows. Springboard cross body by Shelley gets 2. Cage fights back with a gut buster and covers for 2. Sabin tags back in, off the ropes and we get an odd cut to a big boot by Shelley. What the hell was that? Mounted corner rights by Sabin, tree of woe and tag to Shelley. Running basement dropkick and then the levitation dropkick by Sabin follows. Slingshot elbow drop by Shelley gets 2. Kicks by Shelley, tag to Sabin and Cage battles back and ducks an Enziguri and Sabin nails Shelley. DDT on Shelley and Cage crawls for the tag, gets it and he flies in with a dual dropkick to the Guns. Spin kick to Sabin, and then a rolling arm bar by AJ. Shelley breaks that up, off the ropes and clotheslines AJ to the floor. Cage with the frog splash onto Sabin. Fall away slam to Shelley, Superman forearm by AJ to Sabin and Cage with a plancha to Sabin on the floor. Styles Clash on Sabin and that's all.
Winners: AJ Styles and Christian Cage @ 5:30 via pin
A damn fun tag match that I would have loved to see go longer. I hate to see the Guns losing again, but hopefully the angle with their constant disrespect is going somewhere.
RATING: **½
-After the match AJ shakes with the Guns, Cage goes for a shake and Shelley pulls his hand away and flips off Cage! AJ tries to keep the peace as Cage wants to beat Shelley's ass.
-We get a video package for Booker T.
-JB is with Booker in his awesome locker room. Booker discussed the disrespect in TNA. He says the Guns disrespected Cage, and AJ stood there and did nothing. That is what Sting is talking about. Booker says Lethal disrespects Randy Savage each and every week. JB says he is honoring him, but Booker disagrees. He will show Lethal honor tonight. As far as JJ, Sharmell says Booker knows and will watch, listen and then react. JB asks why Booker had a briefcase and what's in it and Booker dismisses him.
-We get a video package for the Terror Dome, now called the Steel Asylum.
-Lauren is with Sheik Abdul Bashir. The American people cried when the stock market fell, try losing your life. John McCain and Obama are telling what they can do for us, but what about him? This belt is step one for getting his life back together. He used to be a peaceful man. But now there is a deep hatred, and this belt is his hostage. He dares us to try and take it away. Are you willing to lose everything? He is because he has nothing left to lose.
Petey Williams w/Rhaka Khan, Johnny Devine and Jimmy Rave w/Hemme and Rock vs. The Prince Justice Brotherhood (Shark Boy, Curry Man and Super Eric)
Petey and Sharky to begin. Corner clothesline by Petey, off the ropes and a Thesz press by Sharky. Fin drop and a tag to Curry Man. Dancing elbow drop and a cover for 2. Jabs by Curry Man, off the ropes and a boot to Petey. Curry Man to the apron and he nails Devine and Rave, only to be STO'd by Rave on the apron. RANA to the floor by Petey, Rave holds Curry Man and Hemme slaps him. Devine in with a snap suplex on Curry Man, corner knee attack and then another takes Curry Man down and covers for 2. Elbows by Curry Man, looks for a tag but denied. Curry Man battles with Petey and Rave, DVD on Devine and he tags in Eric. Dropkicks for all. Rights to Petey, a powerslam follows and a cover for 2 as Devine makes the save. Curry Man and Petey left in the ring, they trade rights, Russian leg sweep by Petey. Rave and Devine clothesline Petey as Sharky ducked, cross body by Super Eric on Petey and that is all.
Winners: The Prince Justice Brotherhood @ 3:30 via pin
It was fun, no real complaints. I suppose the angle after the match is hype for the Steel Asylum.
RATING: *½
-After the match Devine and Rave argue, and then Rave puts the bad mouth on Petey. They beat down Petey and Rock tosses referee Shane Sewell down. He fires up and makes the save with chops to all! GOOZLE by Rock, LOW BLOW by Sewell and he and Petey clear the ring! Earl Hebner is out to calm down Sewell.
-JB is with Sting. He says that he will listen to what Jeff says, speak now or forever hold your peace.
-Tenay hosted a press conference for Matt Morgan. This is for the deal where they are sending his DNA sequence sent to space in October. They give Morgan an award for this, and he says that this will leave a legacy for him.
-Lauren is with Abyss and Morgan. She discusses what happened after the match. Morgan say the replay and admits that he is wrong. Abyss laughs and says it is ok and trips out some hair and gives it to Morgan as a gift. Freak DNA, how nice. Morgan looks at Lauren and says, "Good times." Morgan says they are unbeatable because they defeated Team 3D. Morgan says they could be great together. Abyss says he has to speak with his therapist first. Morgan says he signed them up for a tag team invitational at Bound for Glory. Team 3D is here, runs down their accomplishments and says their win was a fluke, they had a bad day. Devin was shacked up with a 300lb white girl and Ray pulled his groin the night before. Ray says they can't carry their jock, and 3D says they will be in the same match at Bound for Glory, and someone will get knocked out, knocked down or maybe even knocked up. Ok.
-Jackie walks.
-Jackie talks shit to Hector Guerrero and then slaps him. She slaps him again and hector drops the coat. Beer Money is out and beats down Hector. Set up dude, you've been in wrestling how long? They take him to the ring and continue the attack, but LAX is out and makes the save. I have to say that the Beer Money shirts RULE. Traci Brooks is out now and says that Jackie and Hector have to go to the principal's; I mean Jim Cornette's office.
-We get a rough cuts segment on Roxxi.
-Sting walks from the rafters.
-In Jim Cornette's office Traci and Cornette discipline Jackie for her actions. Brooks says she is allowing Jackie to play with the boys since she wants in so bad. Beer Money and Jackie vs. LAX and Hector for the LAST time. The loser of the match loses their manager forever.
-We get a video package for Sting.
~OLD MAN STING IS SICK OF JOE~
Sting makes his way to the ring. He says Joe's words cut to the bone, and the truth is that Joe is immature and naïve and he doesn't know what the deal is. When Joe was a kid sucking his thumb, Sting was running the roads 340 days a year, in front of 40 people for $50 on a good day. He has done this for 20-years and he hasn't forgotten where he came from. You talk respect, he learned respect a long time ago. He learned from the best. So what will you do 15-years from now Joe, if you have the durability, when disrespect gets in you face. He shut his mouth and learned from Magnum TA, Nikita Koloff, Dusty Rhodes, Tully Blanchard, and he listened to Ric Flair. They talked about disrespect. As for Bound for Glory, you are bigger, faster and stronger as well as younger. He still has some tricks up his sleeve. 2006 was great, 2007 was great and so will Bound for Glory 2008.
-We return with a video package for Suicide.
-Tenay and West hype Bound for Glory, and the Sting vs. Joe match.
-We now get a knockouts video package.
-JB is with Cage and AJ. JB asks about the disrespect from the Guns, and AJ says to drop it. People are choosing sides, and they are on the same page. Cage doesn't seem to agree and asks what side AJ is on. Cage says he is the champ and no one makes decisions for him and says for AJ not to forget who put him in the spotlight.
-Lauren is with Jay Lethal and says she is sorry for what happened with Val. He tells her to stop because he needs NO PITY! He is not in a good mood because that tramp Val screwed him. He wants to kill Val and Dutt. He is also pissed about what Booker said, and says he is honoring Savage when he goes into the ring, he memorized his words and moves and he is pissed off because Booker is wrong. Tonight, there will be a whole lot of disrespect, when he disrespects Booker's ass all over the arena!
"Black Machismo" Jay Lethal vs. Booker T w/Sharmell
They stand off and talk trash. Booker shoves Jay, who then fires away with rights. Knees by Booker, chops and rights follow. A whip, float over by Jay and then clotheslines Booker to the floor. Booker avoids the baseball slide, rights to Jay and then chops. Jay manages to whip Booker into the steel post, chops by Jay follow and then slams Booker to the barrier. Back into the ring and Jay springboards in with a missile dropkick. He goes up top, Sharmell distracts him and as Jay leaps in Booker nails him with a leaping leg lariat. Chops by Booker, to the corner and Booker lays in the chops and rights. Jay tries to fight back with rights, knees by Booker and Jay is down. Booker misses the superkick, jabs by Jay and an eye rake stops that. Mounted rights by Booker, and into a top wristlock on the mat. Jay gets to his feet, rights and he escapes only to eat a sidekick by Booker. Boot by Booker, off the ropes and misses the ax kick, chops by Jay and then a clothesline and another. Chops by Jay, elbow by Booker and then the boot, off the ropes and a hip toss and dropkick by Jay and a cover for 2. Jay off the ropes, tripped by Sharmell and Booker gets the ax kick for the win.
Winner: Booker T @ 6:00 via pin
That was going along rather well, and could have used a few more minutes. Booker seemed motivated and Jay was working hard, good deal.
RATING: **
-The Beautiful People and Cute Kip are with Lauren. Love is upset because she woke up with a blemish on her face. It is the end of the world. Sky gets pissed and calls her an idiot hole, ok. She calls Lauren a skank, and Love will go to see her dermatologist. Ok.
Thanks to Chris Lansdell for providing the recap for this match, I lost power for a few moments.
Rhino and Taylor Wilde vs. Velvet Sky and Cute Kip
I hope the women stay in the ring. No wait, I hope they don't. No, wait...oh crap.
They explain that Rhyno and Taylor met in Detroit when Taylor was coming up. There's a horn joke there somewhere, but I'm not the one to make it. Velvet starts with a hair takedown, she mounts Taylor and pounds her. Lucky. Taylor comes back with an arm drag, Velvet flees to her corner and tags Kip. Rhyno also tags in, they lock up and Rhyno has control with chops. Slick Johnson gets in the way but doesn't go down, that was strange. Kip distracts Slick long enough for Velvet to spritz Rhyno in the eyes and the heels have control. Velvet tags in and starts choking out Rhyno! Kip tags in, lays in a few shots and tries for the corner splash, but Rhyno moves! Both ladies tag in, Taylor with a series of dropkicks, she blocks a clothesline and hits a northern lights for 2. Kip tries to intercede, GORE! GORE! GORE! Angelina is at ringside, she slides in a lead pipe for Velvet. Taylor blocks the attack and gets a quick rollup for the win.
Winners: Rhino and Taylor Wilde @ 4:10 via pin
Ummm, it was there? When Rhyno is the most talented person in the match, one and a quarter is amazing...
RATING: *¼
I am back!
-After the match the Beautiful People and Cute Kip beat down Rhino and Wilde. Fameasser to Rhino. Wilde is back in and takes out Sky and Love, but KONG IS HERE! Wilde up top and DIVES to the floor onto Kong, we head to a commercial and when we come back it is brown bag time for Rhino and Wilde. Thanks for showing the brawl, oh wait, you didn't. We get a quick replay of it.
-We get a video history of Jeff Jarrett in TNA.
-Jeff Jarrett makes his way to the ring.
~MAIN EVENT INTERVIEW: THE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN IS BACK!~
JJ gets welcome back chants, sets his guitar down and sports a shirt only he could wear. He has watched things the last few weeks and felt that he had to come out here. He will say something tonight that he never saw before. When you saw him 6-years ago, he was Jeff Jarrett the founder of TNA Wrestling. When WCW went out of business he had a vision for a company to give young hopefuls their break. He started when he was 16 and he knows better than anyone how hard it is go get a break. He wanted TNA to be the place for guys that deserved the big break. Well, a big thanks to the good lord, his precious wife Jill, a great financial partner and millions of fans, because 6-years later we are here. He thanks us all for that. They chant thank you Jeff, and he says no. Unfortunately there is something going on here, and he cannot ignore it. Sting, I don't want to talk behind your back, I want to talk face to face, so I would appreciate that you come out now.
Sting's music hits and he makes his way to the ring. JJ says that they have been in the game a long time, and his father gave Sting his first break in the business and he is proud of that. He is trying to do what his father did to the guys in the back. JJ has been watching Sting and listening. He thinks that Sting is full of crap! It is a smoke screen, you want to get on your high horse and say that it is disrespect. JJ had a dream, and it is due to guys like AJ and Joe. Those guys literally carried this company on their back, and every step of the way they showed JJ the respect just like he showed them. This isn't about disrespect, JJ was there, WCW, they worked together when a multi-million dollar company went out of business because the torch wasn't passed. They wanted to hold onto their spot, position and their fat paychecks. This is about 20-30 guys, and not one of them over 30 years old and they are at Sting's heels. This is about guys like YOU Sting, Booker T, Kurt Angle. You three guys want to take, take, take and not give, give, give. He has a newsflash for Sting, this is not WCW, this is TNA and he will not stand for it.
Kurt Angle now makes his way to the ring. Angle says this is a shoot, straight up. He is talking behind Angle's back. JJ says he didn't think he would have the chance tonight. JJ says that Angle knows the story. 2-years ago he had to step away because of family issues, and he chose one guy to replace him, and that guy had the passion, work ethic and drive that he had. He picked Angle to be that guy. He handpicked him to fill his shoes, and as the founder of TNA Wrestling that is the worst decision he has ever made. JJ is ashamed about what has happened. Angle lost his family, his wife, his TNA title and he even lost his gold medal. The only thing left to lose is his dignity. Angle says that JJ left because he was done and Sting kicked his ass. When it comes down to it you didn't have the heart, so you found another talent to fill his shoes, and what you found was a younger, better version of Jeff Jarrett and HE carried the company on his own. Not once did JJ thank him for saving TNA and he and the fans are nothing but assholes. He is an Olympic Gold Medallist for God's Sake! Angle challenges JJ for Bound for Glory. JJ came out as the founder, he has nothing left to prove. Angle says he isn't done, and says if JJ isn't a wrestler he needs to get out and never come back. It is not for washed up has-beens like JJ. JJ says not to push him, he is warning him. He doesn't want any part of the pain that he has been wearing for two years…
But…
BANG BANG! Foley is on the screen and says what JJ is saying is that that it's real, it's damn real…BANG BANG!
i love how the entire roster seems to have stepped up their promo skills for this storyline. I am really really enjoying this storyline.

BANG BANG!

Like them or not, Angle and Jarrett owned the mic there and the feud between them should be pretty good promo-wise, and if Jarrett still has it the matches could be decent too.
Posted By: Joseph Lee (Registered) on September 18, 2008 at 11:12 PM
This was a great episode, the only thing I didn't like is that Sting didn't say anything at the end
Posted By: VVV (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Uh, I know it's a bit of a cliche at this point, but...
19 minutes. Yeah, not pretty.
Posted By: Ange (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:18 PM
TNA haters can bitch all they want. But the final segment with the Jarrett-Sting-Angle promo was one of, if not the best, segments in the history of the company. And with respect to the fantastic Jericho-HBK feud, the best built, most sensical storyline in TV wrestling today.
Russo dishes a lot of crap to viewers, but TNA proved tonight to be in a class of their own. I don't give a shit if this rating scores another 1.1, a 0.9, or a well-deserved 1.3. Recognize that TNA got this one right!
Posted By: Jason S (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:18 PM
good show here, i'm not a fan of all the talking BUT the promo's were really good and this whole new school disrespect thing is really going somewhere. Lethal and booker was good, along with aj/christian vs mcmgs. The other 2 matches were not all that good.
Posted By: cj (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:19 PM
That was one of the greatest ending for iMPACT in years. So emotional, so solid.
Posted By: Talon (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:20 PM
It looks like they're going to do AJ vs Christian at BFG, that would make me a very happy bunny indeed.
Posted By: awesome (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:23 PM
"And with respect to the fantastic Jericho-HBK feud, the best built, most sensical storyline in TV wrestling today."
Well, expect with HBK and Jericho, you actually know who the heel and face are.
Oh, and in their feud there is no heel acting like a face towards the fans (like, say, Sting for example) that embarrasses the actual babyfaces by coming off as cool while the supposed babyfaces (like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, just to throw some names out there) come off as whining babies.
Posted By: Guest#3036 (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Awesome, awesome episode. Terrific promos all night long adding to an already amazing storyline.
The Jarrett-Angle thing at the end was one of the best segments ive seen in years.
Good stuff.
Posted By: El Nahamocola (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Wow, TNA feels significant again, that was a great show.
Posted By: goodstuff (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:29 PM
I love the fact that it seems as though the entire roster in being interjected into this new school disrespect feud. This is better then the millionaires/new blood feud because it actually has some merit to it, keep up the work TNA
Posted By: Called me convinced (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:30 PM
Awesome ending to Impact tonight, I dug it big time.
I would say that was probably the second or third best promo this year, only behind Mick Foley/Edge and Jericho/Michaels
Posted By: OsamaHussian (Guest) on September 18, 2008 at 11:35 PM
wow so positive, didnt think id see the day. Look forward to it tommorrow here in Aus!

"Well, expect with HBK and Jericho, you actually know who the heel and face are."
We didnt in the first month or so. Not until Jericho slammed Michaels head into the jeritron and injured him. Both were getting booed, both were getting cheered, both were telling the truth.

"We didnt in the first month or so. Not until Jericho slammed Michaels head into the jeritron and injured him. Both were getting booed, both were getting cheered, both were telling the truth."
And Sting, even though he is supposed to be the heel (I'm guessing because it doesn't make sense for the veterans to faces in such a storyline), has been slapping hands with the hands and is cool, calm, and collected in his promos.
Joe and Styles, the babyfaces, have been beaten up by Sting while they had a weapon in their hands, plus they yell and overact like idiots in their promos to the point where you want laugh at them rather than cheer them.
Also, why is Styles being portrayed as a young kid who needs to show respect to Kurt Angle when he's been in the business longer than Angle? Between the two, AJ is the actual veteran.

Admittedly there was a lot more talking than wrestling this week, which usually pisses me off, but the promo work was so good, and did such a good job of advancing the storylines, that when the show ended my immediate reaction was, that was a hell of a show. Joe laid it out at the start of the show, then Sting came out and continued his string of doing the best mic work of his career. Cage did a great job of teasing his eventual move toward the Sting faction. And Jarrett, for the first time in the whole angle, succeeded in making Sting like a heel. (Except for us dedicated Sting fans, who will never see him as a heel! lol) Angle managed to come across as the intense heel who really believes he's the good guy, and Foley's little end thing, even though all of us who read spoilers knew it was coming, really did work to wrap it up.
What wrestling the show did have was mostly pretty good. I thought even Velvet Sky didn't look as useless in the ring as usual; she seemed to work better with Rhino than she ever has with any of the women! lol All in all, a show that everyone but the kool aid drinking WWE fanboys probably enjoyed -- and that's the truth, because truthie says so!

Make that "with the fans".
Anyways, this storyline is not going to do any young guys any favors when the veterans are coming off as cool and calm instead of as yelling idiots who get tricked a lot like the supposed babyfaces are.

Posted By: truthsayer (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 12:03 AM
I'm one of those dedicated fans and you're right....i can never take sting as a heel, that's why i'm liking that they are not trying to force him outside of his character.

"Anyways, this storyline is not going to do any young guys any favors when the veterans are coming off as cool and calm instead of as yelling idiots who get tricked a lot like the supposed babyfaces are."
The fans were much more in favor of Joe than they were of Sting on this week's iMPACT.
Posted By: Jeff (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 12:22 AM
whoa, i just realized, watching the promo over again, that Tenay and West didnt say a word during that ending promo.
awesome.
Larry, they have finally decided to STFU! Hooray.

this was odd, jarret, angle, sting talking about letting the young guys get a break and this is whats going on,sting in the title picture, jarret is back, angle seems to wants to be at the top,and to top it all mick foley is in the main picture, what a way to let the young guys run the show!! whats/whos next warrior, goldberg, hogan
im trying tna,im trying but you seem to dont want me to watch you

"The fans were much more in favor of Joe than they were of Sting on this week's iMPACT."
Yet Sting is still a cool guy who recently took out Joe in seconds even when Joe had a free shot. No reason to boo him when he's still the same guy the fans have liked for all these years. Hell, last week or two weeks ago, Sting was slapping hands with the fans on his way to the ring.
The veterans should be arrogant pricks who don't give the faces the credit they deserve. When the babyfaces are gullible fools, whiners, or are just plain less likeable than the heels, then they don't deserve such credit.

Damn, that JJ promo ALMOST had me... He was talking about old washed up guys not wanting to pass the torch... but what did that promo ultimately boil down to? Bringing in a old washed up guy to push the younger and more talented guys further from the main event slot.
Way to shoot yourself in the foot for the millionth time, TNA.
Posted By: A-Ron (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 02:04 AM
I am sick of people saying that there has to be a clear heel and a clear face. It's a great story. By the way, why would sting not like the fans and high five them? He still thinks he is right and likeable. If he didnt high five the fans, it would not work with the story being that he should still be liked and respected by the fans and the other wrestlers. congrats TNA on getting people interested in your product. and for those who think the old guard will just come out on top, remember that joe is the champ, AJ keeps beating Angle, and that Abyss and Morgan beat Team 3D. While the millionaires had the last interview on the show, they are not exactly dominating in the ring. that was the problem in WCW - noone did the jobs for the up ad comers
Posted By: mark (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 02:56 AM
The last segment was Segment of the Month. TNA had one of its better shows tonight, and this storyline really is going somewhere. But this is what almost has me at a loss for words here. For years wrestling fans all over the world who knew about Jarrett knew he was a bad guy. I mean this was one of the worst of men in WWF,WCW and TNA. In TNA he ruled with an iron fist, so to speak. He was a corrupt man who did whatever he could to get over. The Sting/Jarrett angle was a classic one. The "cancer of TNA" was finally removed by Sting, and all was right in the world. Then Jarrett disappears for nearly two years in which he lost his wife to cancer (RIP Jill Jarrett). Now he's returned a new man and the scripts have flipped. Now Angle and Sting are somewhat on the same page in a sense with this new old vs. new storyline. All I can say is keep on watching because I have a feeling that Bound For Glory'08 will only be the beginning. Could TNA finally be getting it right? Only time will tell.
Posted By: Brian (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 03:54 AM
Wow - way to go TNA, put your world champion on at the start of the program to solidify his status as a caretaker for the belt. Meanwhile Jeff Jarrett continues to Triple H the current world champion to make his eventual return to the top of the mountain look all that better - and ths is why active wrestlers should never be in on the booking or related to the bookers.

19:10?!?!?!?!?!?!
Posted By: Guest#3479 (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 07:10 AM
i really felt sorry for Angle, when he said, that he was a younger version of... Jarrett?!!?
(The guy who wants young guys to succeed, so he holds the world title for like 48892 times in the first 4 years of Tna. The guy, who NEVER could rid of that midcardguy feel to him. The guy, who was hated not so long ago, and no, not his character, but the guy himself, because he was boring on the mic and shitty in the ring. The guy who fucks up EVERY MAIN EVENT with his laughable guitarshot. The guy, who's wife had to die, so the fans could tolerate him again...
Man, poor Kurt. On the biggest stage in Tna, he's jobbing to the lamest finisher in wrestling history.)
BUT...
Christian seems to go back to his CHAMP persona, and that WILL be awesome.
Posted By: tully (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 07:31 AM
I thought the ending was horrible. The promos were good but then it was like, I'm going to point at Mick Foley, on a screen, there he is... don't know why..

Good show...the episodes of Impact immediatly following a PPV are usually talk-heavy, and at least the promos were legitimately good. Kurt Angle may be a raving lunatic most of the time, but he still has the goods when it comes to a serious promo. The back and forth he had with Jarret was the stuff that great wrestling drama is made of...
However...
I think it's been said before, and I'll say it again - When it's Jeff Jarret, of all people, who's work-shooting about putting younger guys over, I CAN NOT take him 100% seriously. This is the guy who was just a notch below Triple H for the better part of four years when it came to delaying, derailing, and destroying the main event pushes of just about everyone who threatened to be a breakout star. Raven and Jeff Hardy were taken down a peg by Jarret, and arguably never recovered. AJ Styles and Samoa Joe are just now where they should've been years ago.
Whenever in doubt, Jeff Jarret put the world title on himself. This is obviously nothing new in professional wrestling, but for Jarret to come on TV and pretend he never did those things and try to be the voice of "the boys" is laughable.

Im 26 years old and i have been watching wrestling for as long as i could walk. does that mean some of these new fans respect me? do i need to teach THEM some respect? lol

I noticed they were using 'Double J' on screen and whatnot last night. I thought WWE owned the TM on Double J and Jarrett wasn't allowed to use it once he left?

"whoa, i just realized, watching the promo over again, that Tenay and West didnt say a word during that ending promo.
awesome.
Larry, they have finally decided to STFU! Hooray."
I don't know where Larry gets that from every week, because they've stopped filling in the gaps during promos for a while now, just something I noticed.
Anyway, I gotta admit, I was a quite a bit skeptical when it came to this old school vs new school angle and the alliances it would've made. But right now they're going about it sensibly. I really like that they even threw Jay Lethal in it with Booker T stating that he was disrespecting the Macho Man. If that's not the best way to incorporate that gimmick into the storyline then i don't know what is. The wrestling may not have been the greatest but everything worked well for what it was worth. The promo work was excellent tonight and I hope they keep it up. Next week's show looks even better from the spoilers. C'mon guys, can we give TNA a chance and spike a rating, they've got some good stuff going here.
Posted By: bighustle (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Yeesh. that was horrible, the promos were okay and plenty of star power, but where was the good wrestling. And Booker T needs to retire I hate his ring work and don't need him burying guys who are actually good!
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Two things that were said which totally destroy the logic of the angle.
1) Jarrett stated he founded the company to "give the young guys a break", yet systematically has hired every ex-WWE guy under the sun and pushed them over the guys who were supposedly carrying the company.
2) The talk of Angle saving TNA when it's widely known that the ratings and buyrates have been the same. Jarrett almost implied this by stating that hiring Angle was a mistake, but he never quite got there.
One last thing, why would the MCMG disrespect Cage and not AJ, when Styles has been in the business at least as long as Cage? Stupid little niggly things that only the smarkiest of people would know, but isn't that essentially TNA's target audience?

"Also, why is Styles being portrayed as a young kid who needs to show respect to Kurt Angle when he's been in the business longer than Angle? Between the two, AJ is the actual veteran."
Maybe they realize this and use it later to throw people off.
Anyway, haven't watched TNA for a while, but have heard good things lately so decided to check this out and I wasn't disappointed (unlike with most WWE stuff recently).
A bit more wrestling wouldn't hurt, but at least the wrestling isn't the same 4 moves from the same 4 wrestlers day in, day out.

The only way for this angle to really work is to have ALL of the "old guys" against the "young guys". Jarrett, Foley, et al, NEED to be heels. Otherwise, it's just the Invasion all over again.
Here's how I would do it:
- Bound for Glory. Joe beats Sting clean in a well-fought match. Sting beats down Joe with the bat after the match, Jarrett runs down with the guitar, and turns on Joe. They "break Joe's arm", and AJ runs down to make the save, only to have Angle attack from the back. Finally, with Joe writhing in pain on the mat, and AJ useless, Foley runs down to a huge pop to defend them.
- On Impact, whoever the hell is the "authority figure" in TNA (is it still Cornette?) comes out and says if Joe can't defend the belt by Genesis, then he will lose it.
When AJ/Joe confront him, and ask "whose side are you on?", he says "My own."
- Joe wants to face Jarrett at Genesis, injured or not, but the heels beat him down again, making his arm worse, and a title defense impossible. AJ will take his place in the match, but obviously Joe will lose the title.
- When AJ takes the match, Foley convinces him that he needs to use different strategy in beating Jarrett this time -- a "full speed ahead" approach, and becomes his temporary "mentor".
- At Genesis, AJ uses the approach, but loses to Jarrett -- badly (again, a clean match). After the match, the heels beat him down. Joe saves, but gets beat down again. Either Foley can turn now, or later (his "mentoring" was all a ruse to screw AJ up).
- On Impact, the Authority figure strips Joe of the title and announces a tournament for the vacated belt at Turning Point. They announce the participants as Jarrett, Angle, Sting, another "old guy" (maybe Foley if he turned and can wrestle), Shark Boy, Lethal, Curry Man, and Joe (in an obviously stacked lineup). Since Joe can't wrestle (still in the cast), whoever he's facing will get a first-round "bye".
The matches go as expected, with Shark Boy and Lethal putting up a good fight, but with no real chance of winning. They didn't count on Curry Man, though, who RIPS through his competition. In a final round with Angle or Jarrett (preferably Angle), where Curry is tearing him up, the exasperated old guy yells "who the hell are you!?!", and rips off his mask to reveal Christopher Daniels (of course), who wins the belt.
Unfortunately (and this is the part that will piss off the IWC, but is necessary to the angle), since Daniels isn't supposed to wrestle in TNA any more, they strip him of the belt and award it to his finals opponent (to avoid the heavy backlash, they could stop the final match, but it still amounts to the same thing).
Long setup for an eventual Joe return to face Jarrett (since they never really gave us that feud).

I dont think bringing in Foley at the end after what Jeff said was ironic or contradictory. He wasnt dissing old guys in general, he was dissing old guys who dont pass the torch because they love their fat paychecks.
Foley was in the same position as the young guys. One of the best overall performers in the world for years, and never got his break because the top guys wouldnt let him.
It fits.

The ending promo was great the show was building to Jarrett and it delivered. Great stuff from Sting-Jarrett-Angle and we got to see Mick Foley. If TNA continues this feud will be amazing

Larry I know how much you hate main event interviews week after week but even you have to admit last night's was the PROMO OF THE YEAR! Yes even better than that contrived one that Edge always seems to do.
This is what a great storyline is all about, invoking true emotion, much like the Jericho/HBK angle. You actually care to see what happens, next, and the first person commented on it really well as EVERYONE has stepped up their promo skills in choosing sides.
If they keep this up TNA could have just the thing to finally get more recognition in the eyes of the casual fan. More marketing with Foley will help as well.
Outside of that I'm also glad that TNA is continuing to dedicate more emphasis on their tag teams. This invitational at BFG sounds promising, and should fall right in line with the big New vs. Old storyline.
In all I'm happy with the direction TNA is going, and can't wait to see what Foley says next week!
BANG! BANG!

Some of you WWE fanboys really make me laugh.
No clear face or heels in this storyline? When you really think about the HBK/Jericho storyline, HBK should've been the heel because he admitted to lying and faking injury, and Jericho gets booed for speaking the truth. That already makes the storyline ridiculous and not worth following, that the fans cheer the liar yet despise the guy telling the truth.
Also, as far as for AJ being the "veteran" over Kurt, as far as the fans are concered AJ Styles didn't begin wrestling until the early part of this decade, long after Kurt appeared in the WWE.
Also, Joe is not coming off as an idiot, he actually needs to come out first since he's the, I dunno, WORLD CHAMPION. He's showing more emotion than the steroid freak Cena ever could.
I love how people love to play the dead "JJ is trying to be HHH" angle by coming out last. First of all, the only reason he had such a stranglehold on the belt was because TNA didn't want to risk putting it on someone who wouldn't stick around (Monty Brown, Chris Harris). 411 actually had a column about it recently.
It made perfect sense for him to come out last as the head of the company. That promo was so great the rest of the show would've fell flat if that led off Impact.
JJ admitted he made a mistake (when's the last time HHH would do that) and is now leading the young guys to clear that mistake. As long as JJ walks away when this is done then the angle would've served its purpose.

Angle and Foley should headline the next PPV. And TNA should title it "CRIPPLE FIGHT!"

Shawn admitted he was lying. Jericho is a prick who acts like he is a good man, than cheats and punches women in the face without remorse.
In TNA, Joe and AJ act like morons and fall for everything, while Sting is still good to the fans and has all the same qualities people liked in him. Why boo him when he's still the same guy we've been cheering all these years?

Most of the time, he yells and screams, which Cena also does and gets called an idiot because of it. Yet, when Joe does it, he'll be defended.
Joe also got dropped by Sting recently despite Joe having a weapon. He looked a total fool.
Keep ignoring such things, though.

Wow! Look at all the comments above on a TNA show!
Russo, if you're reading, THIS is how you book a real feud.
It's not about "WWE rulz, TNA sucks" or anything like that. Wrestling fans in general just want well put together feuds that will elevate today's stars, regardless of the promotion.
TNA has a great thing going, and I for one will order BFG!

No clear face or heel?
Idiots. Learn to think for yourself. Last night's promo was the best to come out of TNA in a very, very long time. And the reason it works...because nobody is clearly wrong or right. Or...better stated, there's some elements of truth to everything all participants are saying. Every fan can effectively choose a side and not be on the WRONG side.
Posted By: Alyaz (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 03:43 PM
I like the idea of having no clear cut heels or faces in this storyline. Why? Because it is a lot like most real life conflicts. In most real life conflicts both sides believe they are the good guys. And it's true here too. Sting believes the young wrestlers don't pay enough respect to the older established stars. The younger guys on the other hand believe they have busted their butts for everything they got so far and believe the old dinosaurs should step down and let the younger guard take over.

TNA doesn't want people to boo Joe, but there are asking for it by making him look like an idiot. Wait until you see what he does next week.
Also, they wanted Sting heel and even scripted his promo as such, but he didn't do it, instead giving a great babyface interview just because he didn't want to be a heel, even though it would benefit Joe.

I loved this episode, best in a long time. For those who complain that Sting isn't acting like a heel, I wouldn't expect that to happen anytime soon. Think of him like Tony Stark in Marval's Civil War: he still thinks he's the bad guy. I expect that by the end of the storyline he'll show regret after seeing that he's created a monster in his quest for respect for the veterans. And then he'll turn out to be a skrull.
Posted By: poffo316 (Guest) on September 19, 2008 at 10:12 PM
I don't think the faces have been made to look like idiots; they've been right in there fighting and speaking for themselves. But even if they have, so what? Wrestling angles have always been built on the heels tricking the faces, until the faces eventually triumph through their perseverance and virtue. The one major angle where this end wasn't reached was the NWO, which is why what started as the most triumphant angle ever ultimately led to the downfall of WCW; the faces never really got the payback they needed.
Back in the day, how many times did Ric Flair trick Sting? Too many to count, and it was Sting's quest to overcome Flair's trickery that ultimately made him such a big star. He became even bigger singlehandedly fighting off the NWO. Now, he's on the other side of the coin, so of course he's coming out ahead right now. Joe doesn't look like an idiot getting punked by Sting, because Sting's an icon, and a veteran with tricks up his sleeve. At least, Joe doesn't look like any more of an idiot than Sting did all those times Flair tricked him. Right now, Sting is defintely walking the tweener line, still acknowledging the fans, still speaking with complete sincerity of the dues he's paid and the respect he's owed. I'd suggest we wait a little longer, see how some of this plays out before we jump all over it. Of course, the E fanboys will watch, and read reports, just to criticize, because that's what those Vince Macasshole cocksucking idiots do. I hereby invite all of them to stop watching or commenting on TNA, and just keep watching that crap the E is feeding you. Meanwhile, I'm going to continue joining my fellow TNA fans in enjoying what they're doing right now -- and to a nicer guy, it couldn't happen!

Who was mentioning WWE?
The angle makes no sense, dipshit. The young guys are idiots (watch what Joe does next week), and the veterans are cool.
Millionaire's Club vs. New Blood Part II, just as counterproductive as it was 8 years ago, being booked by the same guy who booked the original that failed, and watched by even less people than were watching WCW in 2000.

Of course the veterns will come off as 'cool' you moron, they've been in the business longer. It isn't a 1 month feud like you see in WWE, this is a long-haul feud that will build gradually - AND as it builds, the younger talents will grow into their roles as the new 'main eventers'. Is it really that hard to figure out?! You think that the younger wrestlers should out-think the veterns straight away?! Gheez, what an idiot.

What does being in the business longer have to do with how they come off, you moron? They deserve to be cheered and the young guys deserve to booed because they whine and are guillible idiots. Sting is the babyface, and Joe comes off as the heel, which is ass-backwards.
It's just like in WCW where Hogan made Kidman look like a fool, and the feud did 0 for Kidman's career.

We aren't talking about next week's show, shit for brains, we're talking about this week. How did Joe come off as an idiot, or the heel? He came out, gave a strong promo challenging everything that Sting has been saying, and had the crowd firmly behind him. Just because this isn't being booked the way you think it should doesn't mean it's bad. I posted a couple of weeks ago that I was not exactly happy to see what seemed to be a reprise of an angle from the dying days of WCW. Well, so far it's played out much better than I could have hoped. I'm actually enjoying it. Maybe you could too, if you took your head out of your asshole long enough to stop smelling your own shit, and paid attention to what they're actually doing now, not what was done eight years ago. The only real question left here is whether the Dirtiest Poster in the Game should waste any more time ripping an idiot who's too fucking stupid to even think up a posting handle for himself. And that's the truth, because truthie says so!

Cutting wrestling promos on the comment section of a wrestling TV report. So cool, man. Just incredibly cool.

That's good, when someone exposes your arguments as just the typical mindless whining of an IWC "smark" who'd rather complain about a show than enjoy it, respond by crying about the style of the poster who just ripped you a new one! Btw, since you seem incapable of coming up with a posting handle of your own, let me suggest "sfb", standing for "shit for brains." We'd all know who you are then. Finally, as to my posting style: guess what; some of us actually watch wrestling for fun. That's right, we watch wrestling, read about wrestling, and comment about wrestling, for fun. Can you believe it? Not because it's an art form, not to try to outbook the bookers, not to whine about what smart marks we are, but to have fun. And I post the same way, to have fun. If you can't handle that, tough shit. As Harry Truman used to say, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. And sonny boy, when you post here, you're in my kitchen, you'd better be able to handle the flames. If you don't know, now you know!

You didn't expose anything, moron.
Sting is cutting the best babyface promos of his career when his opponent is supposed to be the top babyface in the company. If anyone is going to be booed, it's Joe because Sting is the better babyface. That's exactly what happened in WCW. The veterans acted like kick-ass babyfaces, which hurt the young guys.
But TNA can do no wrong in your eyes because it's not WWE, so it's all good to you. Oh, well, maybe if that youngster Jeff Jarrett beats Joe for the title, you'll wise up.

TNA has done plenty wrong in my eyes, and I've posted about it when they have. But I still watch it, because overall, I'm entertained by it, unlike that hogwash from WWE. And I did refute your ridiculous arguments. Did you even watch the damn show? Did you hear the fans cheering Joe? The mixed reaction to Sting, who is doing something apparently too subtle for a dunce like you to notice, walking as fine a tweener line as anyone has ever danced? The complete crowd support for Jarrett when he called Sting on what he's been saying? I'm beginning to realize that you don't watch Impact at all, you're just another hopeless E fanboy, reading the report and looking for a chance to hack at anyone who dares prefer another promotion to your beloved E. By the way, your posts might be a little more impressive if they had more of your words than mine in them. I guess you feel the need to reprint mine to make sure everyone knows that you're the shit brained idiot they're addressed to. You wouldn't have to do that if you had the minimal mental power required to create your own posting handle, idiot child. You call me a moron? The only moron around here is waiting for you in the nearest mirror, dumbass. Remember, to be the man, you've got to beat the man -- and a child like you doesn't have a prayer. I'm still the Dirtiest Poster in the Game, and to a nicer guy, it couldn't happen!

Sting's acting like a babyface, not a tweener. He's completely right and justified in what he says without being insulting. This is some of the best babyface work he's ever done. Too bad he's not feuding with TNA's top heel. Instead, he's just coming off as better and more likeable than Joe, the guy who's supposed to be the actual babyface. Old vs. young with the young guys as heels was done already, booked by the guy who writes for TNA now. That angle didn't work out well.
And what is your sick obsession with WWE? You mention them in just about everyone of your asinine posts. This has nothing to do with WWE. What do they have to do with TNA's stupidity and counterproductive ways?
