411's ECW on Sci-Fi Report 10.21.08

The campaign trail to Cyber Sunday for three men leads to one big debate in the ring... ECW Style!
Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper. And for the first time ever, I will be giving the match ratings a shot. If you don't like them after I try it, let me know. It will be a trial by fire deal.
Todd Grisham and Matt Striker at ringside and we start with Matt Hardy being introduced. Matt comes out to his normal huge ovation. As he comes out, we get the whole deal about who Matt will face at Cyber Sunday. True fact: Matt is endorsing Evan Bourne as his choice on MySpace. Matt has the microphone and he is puts over the voting process. He puts over Finlay as the toughest guy to step in the ring, Evan Bourne as an awesome athlete, and then there is Mark Henry. Henry left him lying in the ring two weeks ago but doesn't think he will get a shot cause the fans hate him. But he wants another shot at Mark Henry and gets his vote. Matt is about to text it in and Finlay comes out with Hornswoggle. Finlay has a microphone as well and Finlay puts over their partnership in teams and how he will be champion if he gets voted in. This brings out Evan Bourne, who is my vote. Bourne decides to campaign as well as he refuses to be overlooked. Finlay uses the old height joke, which Hornswoggle doesn't like. Finlay also says he needs to outweigh the title. Bourne wants the votes, not the jokes. Henry comes out and says to not to beat each other up, since he already has and will again. Henry puts over the triple threat tonight against Finlay and Bourne. He says the fans will know who to vote for afterwards. Mark then tells Matt that his reign will come to an end as the "WHAT?" chant starts to really piss off Mark. Matt tells Mark and everyone else that they only thing one of them will win is the vote, as Matt will still be the champion regardless.
Jack Swagger vs. Brett Badery
Jack almost fucks up coming out of the back like he was going to turn around. The bell rings and Jack scores a single leg take down. Jack back Brad in the corner. Jack trash talks, Brad shoves, Jack just grabs him and spears him into the corner. Jack throws the kid out of the corner. He measures and hits a huge knee lift. Jack grabs the poor kid and hits a picture perfect gutwrench powerbomb for the three count at 1:09.
Winner: Jack Swagger
Todd Grisham heads to the ring to ask Jack Swagger why he is choosing to target Tommy Dreamer. Swagger smiles and simply says ‘Tommy Who?' Swagger takes his leave.
Match Rating: * Look, I get the point of wanting to showcasing Swagger, but man was this match just way too generic. Give him a real opponent.
Backstage, John Morrison and The Miz. Miz asks Lena if he has a cell phone. He says they should be voting for them to compete and embarrass Cryme Time. Morrison says his abs will win the vote alone. Miz says that he have been McCain's running mate as he is the chick magnet and would garner the full female vote. And he will show everyone what he will do next as he faces Shad.
Shad (with JTG) vs. The Miz (with John Morrison)
We get highlights from last week of Cryme Time pulling The Miz and Mike Knox under the ring. Shad laughs at watching it. The bell rings and Miz plays some duck and chase. Miz ducks away in the corner and cheap shots his way. He kicks Shad in the gut, but Shad blocks a punch and down The Miz. Miz gets back body dropped and whipped in the corner. Miz avoids a charge and punches away. Miz can't whip the big man and gets thrown in the corner. Miz gets decked with a back elbow and Shad gets two. Miz is able to break away and dump Shad over the top rope. Miz with a baseball slide and Shad hits the guardrail. Shad gets thrown into the ringpost. Miz rolls him back in and locks in an armbar. Shad gets up and punches out. Miz shoves him into the turnbuckle and hits the leaping clothesline into the corner. Miz makes the cover and only gets two. Miz goes to the key lock, but Shad is up quickly. Shad punches again to escape. Miz gets forced into the corner head first several time and Shad hits a series of clotheslines. Shad drops Miz on the top rope and hits a huge elbow. Morrison tries the distraction, but the ref turns and JTG trips The Miz. Shad drops Miz with a huge spinebuster for the two count. Shad runs off the ropes and John Morrison kicks Shad in the head. The ref sees it and the ref calls for the DQ at 4:58. JTG kicks Miz out of the ring and the former ECW Tag Champs bail.
Winner: Shad by DQ
Match Rating: *1/2 I don't buy Shad as a singles wrestler and this match kinda showed why. Miz did most of the work here and it was okay for the five minutes it had. The DQ ending seemed to work.
Back from the break with Todd and Matt. And of course the talk is John Cena all over Hollywood. It's a decent video package about Cena outside of the ring. And at the end it says… Cena Returns.
After the video, Todd and Matt put over parts of Cyber Sunday that haven't been done yet during the show. In other words… The Raw and Smackdown Championships. Oh, and the Undertaker/Big Show battle which is wwe.com.
Backstage, Tiffany is a Go-Go Dancer with Ricky Ortiz. Hornswoggle is trick or treating and out comes Teddy Long dressed as Shaft. Teddy Long has to keep Hornswoggle from taking the whole bag of candy. And then the best yet…
There goes one bad mother… Tiffany puts her hand up to stop him. Shut your mouth!
Triple Threat Match – Finlay (with Hornswoggle) vs. Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas)
We get highlights from last week of Mark Henry laying out Finlay and Evan Bourne after each of their victories. The bell rings and all three men circle around and Henry goes after Finlay and then gets double teamed. Henry just shoves both men off and starts pounding in both men with clubs. Bourne gets kicked in the gut. Finlay gets thrown all the way across the ring. Bourne gets grabbed and he gets rammed into Finlay in the corner. Finlay fights out of the corner and leaps right into the arms of Henry. Henry slams Finlay and goes after Bourne, but Bourne low bridges Henry out of the ring. Finlay clubs Bourne and hits a huge European Uppercut. Finlay connects with a shoulder block for a two count. Finlay garbs Bourne in the fireman's carry and drops him on the top rope. Bourne whipped into the corner and Finlay hits a huge shoulder. Bourne twists out of a bodyslam and Bourne hurricaranas Finlay into the head of Mark Henry. Bourne gets a two count and Henry is back in. Henry whips Finlay into the corner. Finlay ducks a charge and sees Bourne charging in. Bourne gets thrown into Henry for the ‘rana, but Henry catches him. Bourne gets flipped off, but he turns it into a moonsault on Finlay for a pinfall, which Henry stops. Finlay and Bourne get decked with a massive clothesline and we go to a commercial at 4:31.
We are back at 8:50 and Henry is stomping Bourne in the corner. Henry slams down Finlay and locks in a neck vice. Bourne kicks Henry in the head and starts punching away, but gets stopped cold with a headbutt. Finlay slips out of a bodyslam and chop blocks Mark Henry. Finlay with the sitdown splash and both him and Bourne dropkick Henry out of the ring. Bourne whipped into the corner and Finlay catches him leaping over and hits a backbreaker for two. Finlay with a huge slam into the ropes and gets another two. Finlay hits the Irish Fireman's Roll as Henry rolls into the ring an breaks up another two count. Finlay gets caught on Henry's back, Bourne leaps onto the front, and Henry drops down on top of Bourne. Finlay in the corner and he avoids the shoulder block from Henry. Finlay with a DDT that gets two as he holds his pectoral muscle. Finlay clubs down Henry, but walks into a back elbow from Henry. Henry whips Finlay hard into the corner and Finlay crumbles. Tony Atlas keeps Hornswoggle from going under the ring and throws him in the ring. Henry grabs Hornswoggle for the World's Strongest Slam, but Finlay chop blocks him. Tony Atlas gets decked by Hornswoggle and Finlay nails Henry with the shillelagh. Bourne comes out of nowhere and hits Finlay with the double knee to the face. Bourne heads up top and heads a beautiful shooting star pres on Mark Henry and gets the three count at 14:30!!
Winner: Evan Bourne
Match Rating: ***1/4 This was a great matchup to build to the Cyber Sunday ECW Title match. Bourne looked like a star in this match and three men pulled off some great innovative offense. Awesome match, another great ECW Main Event.

Another good edition of ECW. How can this be a WWE brand??

Great way to JOB mark henry guys
so much for his monster cred as he was pinned by a midget

TOTAL ASS!
Posted By: Spike (Guest) on October 21, 2008 at 11:01 PM
Bourne is just awesome, he's definitely the best choice to challenge Matt
Posted By: William (Guest) on October 21, 2008 at 11:04 PM
People actually waited to watch this and posted such in the comment sections? Looks like as usual I missed...... nothing. Sounds like a one match show to me.

Another solid show. Finlay is underrated when it comes to mic work, Bourne isn't strong talking wise, but mic work is something few people get right off the bat. Mark played off the 'WHAT' chants very nicely. Matt was solid on the mic as well.
Swagger is OK. But yeah, I can't wait until he gets a solid opponent to work off of, and not squash like a housefly.
Props to the Miz for carrying Shad. Miz and Morrison's promo was pretty funny, and we see Lena Yada in fact, exists.
The Triple Threat was very solid. A bit off in some spots, but great effort by all three.
Another good show, and once again ECW > RAW. Who knew that the little engine that could would outshine the flagship show?

Bourne is so awesome. I'm glad Vince is giving him a nice push. The nice thing about that match is, even though Bourne was my favorite, Findlay and Henry are both awesome too. Henry has come along way since he came to ECW, and he has shown great improvement.
BTW, i like the addition of the ratings and i think that u did a fair job of rating them.

THINK ABOUT IT!

One small nit-pick. When you refer to "Matt," sometimes I can't tell if you're talking about Hardy or Striker.
Otherwise, it sounds like it was a good show. Carry on.

Miz & Morrison aren't former ECW Tag Team Champions; they're former WWE Tag Team Champions.

I get slightly confused because I think he is referring to Sydal.

ECW >>>> SD >>>> Raw
Oh my how things have changed

The main event was very good for an ECW main event. Also, enough credit isn't given to Matt Striker at the announcer table. That guy seems to have a good handle on things and good continuity. It makes TNA's Don West look that much worse.

I don't know...Teddy Long looked more like Isaac from the Love Boat than Shaft. ECW is the best thing about the WWE right now....
Posted By: Froze (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 09:35 AM
Awesome main event.
Anyone else notice how Jack Swagger now has Lance Cade's theme music?
Posted By: RocknRaveKid (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 09:37 AM
I enjoyed it. Simple, yet very effective! Sheesh, why can't the other shows figure this out.
Although I have to say this, PUH-LEESE keep Evan Bourne off the mic. Either that or put him in a situation that garners some emotion. Hey it worked for AJ Styles!
Posted By: Orlando (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Another fine edition of ECW. The headbutt spot was all kinds of awsome and Finlay sold the hell out of his arm. Good job with the match ratings
Posted By: Tim (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 09:50 AM
I love Evan Bourne and everything about him (as long as he doesn't talk) but it seems like his push is almost too good to be true. I really REALLY hope I'm wrong, but I've got a bad feeling.
Posted By: m8 (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Jack Swagger reminded me a little bit of Bret Hart's squash matches on WWF Superstars when he began wrestling as a single--a little after WMIV. Also, he looked huge next to that jobber.
Posted By: gibson12 (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 12:29 PM
They had to go w/ a Bourne victory as he should win the vote hands down. Henry has no chance and Finlay has been stale of late in my opinion.
Posted By: Kevin (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 12:56 PM
after bourne won I started chanting "Holy S&^t" "Holy S#^T" for 4 minutes. He looked like he was a seriosu main eventer.
Bourne Jumping out of that powerbomb attempt by Henry to moonsault Finlay = EPIC WIN!
Great way to JOB mark henry guys
so much for his monster cred as he was pinned by a midget
Posted By: Guest#3544 (Guest) on October 21, 2008 at 10:54 PM
First off, Henry basically crushed the other TWO men for that match, got konked on the head by what's supposed to be a heavy club, and was then Shooting Star pressed by a smaller than the average wrestler guy, he was pinned but it wasn't like he lost clean to hornswaggle.
Bourne is good, but he's downright pathetic at promos, his voice just isn't Wrestlery!
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 02:19 PM
ECW = win. I don't get why people hate it.
PLEASE let Bourne win the voting. Bourne vs Hardy will be incredible if they give it enough time.
Posted By: Parxy (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 04:49 PM
are you sure? bourne looked like a star? the match was barely plodding and sydal got little to no offence, and then hit the ssp - that match sucked with finlay keeps screwing up and henry lazy-ass attacks. nice to see that every long main event gets a 3 plus score, however it may SUCK
Posted By: sutt (Guest) on October 22, 2008 at 05:43 PM
anyone else notice jack swaggerrr used lance cades entrance music? gee they moved on fast...
Posted By: Tom (Guest) on October 23, 2008 at 04:10 AM
Could it be possible that Bourne wins the voting to challenge Matt Hardy?
Posted By: CharlieGoose (Registered) on October 23, 2008 at 04:28 PM
pretty good main event but not 3 and a quarter stars
all the wwe matches always get overrated because people are not used to seeing good matches in the wwe than again maybe thats their strategy
Vince has said himself he had been keeping the product mediocre on purpose to make the product look that much better later
