411’s TNA Impact Report 10.23.08
Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.23.2008

TNA Impact Begins…NOW!

In HD where available…

-LIVE and in HD from the JOINT at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino!

-We have spiffy new opening stuff for the show.

-Tenay and West welcome us to the show and run down the card.

-The lighting is crazy bright as opposed to when WEC runs shows there.

Christy Hemme vs. Velvet Sky w/Angelina Love and Cute Kip

Hemme spears Sky and starts to deliver mounted punches. To the corner and forearms by Hemme, she gets backed off and then gets a monkey flip. Love sprays Hemme in the eyes as Kip distracts the ref, and Sky takes control. Hair mare by Sky and Tenay says Angle will also have an announcement to change the wrestling world tonight. Sky chokes out Hemme, chops follow and then to the corner and then Hemme tosses her off. Sky landed badly. Sky then misses a charge, clothesline by Hemme. Double sledge follows and then Hemme ducks a clothesline, a boot misses and then she slams her down by the hair. Hemme slaps Kip, and Hemme hits the flying fire crotch leg drop for the win.

Winner: Christy Hemme @ 3:00 via pin
  • It wasn't pretty and certainly not what I would have kicked off the show with.
    RATING: *

-Tenay and West hype the rest of the card and hype the text voting for the gauntlet match.

-JB is with Kurt Angle. Angle called him last night because he has an announcement. Angle says after seeing JJ and Foley talk last week, he decided he had to do something to change wrestling forever. So he made some calls to some important people and by midnight last night the deal was done. JB asks what it is and Booker is there with Sharmell. Booker says they are the best of the best (great flick) and he discusses the lion running in packs. They are the lions of TNA and they will take what they want. Nash is also there and says he walked away from TNA, but thought about it and says money, power and respect are what wrestling is all about. Joe gave he and Hall no respect. Nash says with gray hair comes wisdom and Joe spit in his face. Joe made it personal and that is why he came back. JB says they are legends and says that he has seen the uprising from the younger stars. But the odds are against them. Angle says the business was built on honor, dignity and respect. They are three, but there is one more. He will go into battle with heavy artillery. Angle reveals the fourth man, is it Real Estate Steve! Sting (in a suit, no paint) says they tried individually; the nice way, they just wanted respect. Between them all they have 75-years of history in the business. They love the business and they asked nicely, but now they demand. It is all business. Sting leaves as Angle makes a toast, to the Main Event Mafia. Booker constantly barking in with "RESPECT" was hilarious.

-We go to Lauren outside waiting on Foley to arrive. She hypes the live HD broadcast, and the announcement from Foley. Foley arrives in a VW BUG~! Tremendous. Foley says the clutch is sticky, but it gets good gas mileage. He will wait until the place is full and the people are ready. Foley says it is BIG, real BIG!

    ~BOOKER'S BIG REVEAL~

Booker makes his way to the ring and Sharmell and the briefcase are with him. The time has come to reveal something that will change the landscape of TNA and wrestling. This is the one thing that will immortalize him forever. Sharmell holds the case and Booker pulls out a bag, and reveals a championship belt. Red leather, old school NWA there. This is the TNA Legend's Championship. His title. So he says to us that he introduces us to Booker, the TNA Legend's Champion.

Christian Cage makes his way to the ring, because he does NOT approve! Cage says when he hears legend it means something different to him, and a legend isn't a guy that looks like a 2nd rate little John impersonator with a ridiculous accent. A legend is a person whose track record is so great that they command respect. He says Booker has all of that but the respect part. And now he has this title, a title he invented and didn't beat anyone for and acts like everyone in the back and the fans to respect that. Booker says that tonight is a celebration, and asks Cage a question after Cage mocks him again. Booker is serious and Cage continues to mock him. Booker is about to bust him punk ass! Booker apologizes and says it is a celebration. Tonight is about Cage, and Cage is a legend in his country and he should join the Main Event Mafia. Cage appreciates the invitation, and he isn't interested. But how about Booker actually defend that title, against Cage at Turning Point. Cage doesn't want or need the title, but when he wins it, it will piss Booker off. And that's a challenge. Booker says that Cage is right, he is a legend and he deserves a title shot and he agrees to the match. But if Booker wins, he joins the Main Event Mafia, no questions.

-Lauren is with Morgan and Abyss. They hype the tag text match, and Morgan says Abyss will not go to the ring. Abyss says he is fine, but Morgan disagrees. The doctor said that he had 3rd degree burns to 10-percent of his body. He is lucky to be here. Morgan is his friend, and he will not allow it. Abyss says they are dear friends, but Abyss had a special session this week and he realized that he has to think for himself. The burns that cover him, the puss filled bleeding and singed skin…Matt, it hurts now but it will be ok. It will heal. But they need to worry about the gauntlet…and, the unfinished business with Angle. Morgan yells at him and says Abyss will not go to the ring, because he has it from here. Abyss says he has to do something about Kurt as Morgan leaves.

-JB is with JJ. They discuss the show and JB asks about the announcement. JJ won't spoil it for Foley. Angle wants a rematch at Turning Point, and JJ says you don't always get what you want. He then blows off JB.

TNA X-Division Title Match: Sheik Abdul Bashir © vs. Jay Lethal

Bashir attacks at the bell and we're underway. Rights by Bashir as he keeps Jay down, snap mare and the chinlock by Bashir. Elbows by Jay, off the ropes and a head scissors by Jay. Off the ropes and a back flip and dropkick by Jay. SUICIDE DIVE by Jay! They brawl around the ring, Jay up top and MISSES the top rope elbow. WMD by Bashir and that is all. Ok…

Winner: Sheik Abdul Bashir @ 2:00 via pin
  • Um…great for 2-minutes, but that was insanely short and not even worth having on the show.
    RATING: *

-Lauren is with Joe and AJ. She discusses the Main Event Mafia, and AJ says they have the numbers game and doesn't know how it came to this. TNA came to Joe, AJ, Low Ki and Daniels 6-years ago and said they would have the chance to succeed. But now they are falling apart. He doesn't know how it comes to this, but it isn't about them, it is about TNA. They will go out and prove it. Joe says Nash is a scumbag and says to look at him, look what you created! Frankenstein is coming home and he will hunt Nash, and end his career for taking his title. If any of his new friends get in the way, he'll take their career as well.

-We get a video package for Suicide.

-Tenay says something is going on backstage, and we see Rhino bitching at Bashir and he hates his political crap. Rhino accepts his open challenge and he will deport him in a body bag, BITCH! Bashir low blows Rhino, chokes him out and then throws a light on him. Lauren screams and asks if he is ok. I would venture to say, "no."

-We get a cross the line video package.

Tag Team Hard Rock Hardcore Text-Off Gauntlet Non-Title Match: Team 3D vs. Beer Money w/Miss Jackie vs. LAX vs. Matt Morgan and Abyss

We have 60-second intervals here and James Storm is the first man out. The second man is Brother Ray. There are ladders and stuff around the ring, HARDCORE BABY! Now you can text about the weapons we want legal (Tables, Ladders or Chairs). Ray and Storm brawl, chops by Ray and Clotheslines by Ray, a slam and he does a little dance. Ray tries to toss Storm, fails and here is #3, Robert Roode. We have the old 2-1 advantage here as Beer Money beats down Ray. Ray reverses a whip, eats a boot and then the blockbuster. Double suplex…BEER! MONEY! Fucking hell these guys rule! #4 is Devon. Devon in and cleans house on Beer Money. Shoulder block to Roode, neck breaker to Storm. To the corner, Devon avoids the charge and gets a clothesline. Sideslam/leg drop combo by Team 3D as the crowd chants for tables. #5 is LAX's Hernandez! Slingshot double clothesline to Team 3D. Big backdrop to Strom, shoulder block to Roode. Hernandez catches Storm, SITOUT MEX BOMB~! Corner mounted punches to Devon, Ray over and has him on his shoulders…DUDLEYVILLE DEVICE~! #6 is Homicide! Cide dives in with the dual dropkick to 3D! Off the ropes and a back elbow by Cide, tornado DDT to Devon. Up top, rakes Ray's eyes and then gets the RANA off of the top rope. Dropkick to Devon and #7 is Matt Morgan. Morgan in and starts to clean house. Sack of shit slam to Cide. He then tosses Cide. Clothesline and Devon is gone! Hernandez with the boot, charges in and a backdrop by Hernandez and Hernandez falls to the floor, he hit the steps though. Bad landing. We're down to Ray, Roode and Morgan. Abyss is in at #8, Morgan is tosses and now Beer Money attacks Abyss. The legal weapon will be the table. Devon gets the tables, a but I am not sure who the final two teams are. Devon has lighter fluid out, that's the lighter fluid you use for the BBQ grill! The crowd tosses in lighters! Abyss is in and he starts to clean house to a chorus of boos. Abyss has a lighter…LOW BLOW by Devon. They toss Abyss, Roode was never tossed and we are down to the last two teams as we switch to tag rules.

3D vs. Beer Money begins as they crowd chants for FIRE! 3D on Roode through the table! 1…2…Jackie pulls out the ref! Storm in, spits beer in Devon's face and then gets the pin.

Winner: Beer Money @ 10:00 via pin
  • It was actually A LOT of fun until the confusion about who was left. I hate these tag gauntlet matches because 9 times out of 10, the final segment is under two-minutes, like this time.
    RATING: **½

-Back from commercial and Tenay and West hype the rest of the show.

    ~KURT'S ANGLE~

Angle makes his way to the ring. They show Dave Penzer, still black and blue from the attack of Angle last week. Angle talks up the Main Event Mafia will change the face of wrestling forever. But now he is out here to say that he has not forgot about Jeff Jarrett. He also doesn't care about Foley, he wants to get his hands on JJ tonight. Hell, he will pay a visit to his girls, he doesn't give a shit and he wants JJ to come to the ring and be a man.

So here comes JJ. JJ says for the last time, it is over and done. JJ says they have the best roster, and there is no reason for JJ to be in the ring. He will pass the torch and maybe Angle should as well. It is about AJ, Joe, Lethal and The Machine Guns. Angle says that he IS TNA and the greatest wrestler that has ever lived. And all he wants to do is whoop JJ's ass here tonight. JJ says Angle will have to take no for an answer, and there is a locker room full of guys that want their hands on him. Abyss is there in the ring. Abyss drops Angle with a shot, low blow by Angle, charges Abyss and then escapes the black hole slam. How the hell does a dude the size of Abyss sneak up on you? Hell, he likely smells like BBQ.

    -We see Foley chilling backstage.

-We get a Kurt Angle video package.

-And now a video package for Awesome Kong and the Knockouts Title Match.

-Lauren is with Saeed and Kong. Saeed silences her and asks how many times does Kong have to destroy? Kong is sick of Wilde and wants new blood. After tonight, no more. Kong will take back what belongs to her, the title. Wilde, after tonight it will be your LAST MATCH PERIOD! You are finished…

-JB is with Wilde and she says she can only go out and do what she had done. She knows what Kong can do and she is the champion. If Kong wants to beat her, she'll have to end her career to do so.

TNA Knockouts Title Match: Taylor Wilde © vs. Awesome Kong w/Saeed

Kong charges, misses but then tosses Wilde down. Kong misses a cross body, Wilde up top and eats a clothesline as she flies in. Kong tosses Wilde across the ring, chops by Kong and Wilde is down. Kong chokes out Wilde with the boot, a corner whip and Kong with the corner splash! Rights by Wilde, goozle by Kong and she KILLS her with a chokeslam and covers for 2. Kong calls for the end, Kong Bomb countered into a face plant! Wilde with a dropkick, another and then up top…MISSILE DROPKICK and Kong is down, cover and Wilde gets a close 2! Wilde for the RANA and gets it, covers for 2. Wilde charges, tripped by Saeed and they now brawl. Kong lays the boots to Wilde, grabs her and KONG BOMB! 1…2…3!

Winner and NEW KNOCKOUTS CHAMPION Awesome Kong @ 4:00 via pin
  • Really good for the time given, but again too short for a hyped title match. It feels so anticlimactic.
    RATING: **

-Sting, Nash, Booker and Angle all talk backstage.

-Nick Bockwinkle is ringside, taking in the show.

The Main Event Mafia (Kevin Nash and Sting) vs. Samoa Joe and AJ Styles

AJ and Nash to begin. Rights by AJ, corner shoulder blocks and then Nash gets the big knee to the gut. AJ tags in Joe, Nash then tags out to Sting. They talk shit and Joe slaps Sting. They brawl, a whip by Joe, a corner elbow and then the Enziguri follows. To the corner and a tag to AJ. A slam by AJ, off the ropes and the fist drop follows. A right to Nash, but Sting with the jawbreaker and Nash then clothesline AJ. He tags in as we head to a commercial @ 2:00.

We're back from commercial @ 5:00 as Sting is working over AJ. Sunset flip by AJ gets 2. PELE follows and BOTH men are down. Tag to Nash and then a diving tag to Joe! Joe works over Nash with rights and lefts. Off the ropes with the leaping kick. Back splash senton gets 2. Right jabs by Joe, tries to set Nash up top but Sting is in, Splashes Nash by accident. Joe tossed him to the floor and then Nash levels Joe with the title belt and gets the pin.

Winner: Sting and Kevin Nash @ 7:00 via pin
  • It was ok, but got disjointed by the commercial break. The beat down afterwards was solid.
    RATING: *½

-Joe is busted open and we caught the ref picking up the blade. AJ fights off the Mafia, and Joe gets the clutch on Nash. Angle and Booker are out now and Booker levels AJ with his belt. AJ is busted open as well and the Main Event Mafia destroys the TNA Originals.

    -Mick Foley walks.

~FOLEY CHANGES THE FACE OF WRESTLING…or DOES HE?~

Mick Foley makes his way to the ring. He thanks the crowd and says it is major declaration time. So what he will do is explain the meeting with JJ. JJ said Foley made a lot of money in his career, he worked on top, big PPV's and #1 best selling books. He has made a lot of money and discusses the rumors that Foley was the cheapest wrestler that ever lived. He admits it, there isn't a lot that goes into his hair, cars and wardrobe, well, and he isn't Pailin-esque if you will. So JJ said since you spent almost none of your money, maybe you might want to make an investment.

This once again brings out Angle, Booker, Sting, Nash and Sharmell. Angle heads to the ring as the rest back him up. Foley says Angle is messing things up, and Angle says that last week Foley was going to take a Kurt and wipe his Angle. Angle head butts Foley! He asks is he thinks it is funny and says no one is laughing now. Foley gets up and says it IS funny, you see, JJ was not offering him a stock tip. JJ asked him to INVEST in TNA! He is now a major shareholder in TNA, so it gets funny because Kurt just head butted his new boss! And right here, LIVE in Las Vegas, that as his new boss is to say that Kurt Angle…YOU'RE…FII..YOU'RE FREE! You're free to work here if you want, but Foley didn't throw his money away. He loves and believes in TNA, so they had their ups and downs, but he cares about TNA and the business and believes in all of us, AJ, Joe, he believes in the X-Division guys that made TNA something. Kurt should remember, something major was about to happen when they were in WWE. They were all there when the business exploded and they are on the verge of that once again, to be involved in something very big. And he asks Angle, "Do you want to be a part of history…or do you want to be history?" The choice is up to you.

-We get confetti and Foley's music plays. The Main Event Mafia does not approve of this at all.

    *End scene.

Many questions coming out of this show. Why did they make Lethal look like such a bitch? Why was all the matches so short? Why have they wrote the Main Event Mafia to be faces? When did Chris Parks and Matt Morgan become such friends? WTF was the rules in that tag match? And what is Foley supposed to be? Is he taking Jarrett or Cornettes role? I really wanna get behind TNA but their writing is just so confusing and clueless.

Wrestling wasn't that great tonight. Thats a shame as I think because of the HD format some people may have flipped to the channel to check it out.

    I like the ending though.

Larry, TNA is epic fail once again.

The face of nothing was changed tonight and the wrestling was pathetic.

It's nice to see TNA's big announcement basically reinforcing the idea that they're behind the WWE by about 8 years.

WCW in 2000 promised something huge that Vince McMahon couldn't stop was going to happen. That something turned out to be Goldberg turning heel.

Wrestling fans, we may have seen that topped tonight.

I'll be brief. This show was fucking awful. Why would you start a live show w/ a womens match? Why would the x-division title match be 2 minutes? Why would there be a total of 27 minutes of wrestling on a 2 hour show? Why have a main event interview instead of a match? You'd think someone behind the curtains would know how to book wrestling show. Sorry, wasn't as brief as I previously thought. Man this show was like a trainwreck I just couldn't look away from. Hmm . . . maybe that was their object. Awful, just awful

Highlight of the show? Nick "I'm the greatest of all time but also am completely overlooked by every pundit there is" Bockwinkel.

So I gave it another shot tonite...yawwwn...Mick the new owner !!Why I haven't seen anything like that in months!!!!if I wanted 3rd rate sports entertainment, I'd watch Smackdown...

The one thing that bugs me most about TNA (apart from the announcing, the amateur camera work, and the horrible booking) is the fact that they can book bigger rooms. Every episode looks like WCW Saturday Night even when they get out of Orlando! I think I had more people in my kitchen tonite than TNA had in Vegas! I could pick out conversations in the crowd for chrissakes!

Well, atleast TNA can still say they have wrestlers and not actors, or whatever the hell is going on over there. It's not much but it's something.

Great Foley promo, great women's match, but little else. They were live, they were in HD, they were in Vegas, and mostly, it was a lot of talking heads and little wrestling. Again, TNA: We Are Wasted Opportunity.

That Legends title belt looks pretty swank, though...too bad it's wasted on a non-championship.

good impact.better because they finally got out of impact zone and the internet fans did not know who was going to win.more live impacts out of orlando please.please bring back kaz and daniels to help joe and aj.i guess turning point will be joe/aj vs sting/nash(hardcore match),shiek vs rhino, beer money vs 3d,angle vs abyss, booker vs cage, kong vs taylor.

"Well, atleast TNA can still say they have wrestlers and not actors, or whatever the hell is going on over there."

Oddly enough, Raw, Smackdown, and ECW have been giving much more time to wrestling matches than TNA did tonight. WWE, despite these news recent reports, has been increasing the amount of actual wrestling on their TV shows.

and whats sad pmullin is in his prime Nick Bockwinkel could outwrestle 95% of these losers on both WWE and TNA rosters which tells you about the state of wrestling.

26 minutes of wrestling on a two hour show? no excuse. fuck TNA just fuck them and their shitty ratings.

only thing for me was that they could've given their matches more time. i wish they wouldn't have billed the foley annoncement as "shaking the wrestling world" so it wouldn't have been underwhelming. BTW, the "main-event mafia" is great

Man Christy is uber hot...anyways TNA is starting to interest me more than WWE right now and I'm a fan of both.Love the legend championship and the old school vs new school feud. But i think the new school needs more guys other than AJ and Samoa "i cant stop sweating" Joe.I say add Jay Lethal and Petey Williams and let the magic start. As for all u WWE bots on her constantly ragging on TNA every freaking week.Stop watching if its so bad.As least TNA is still wrestling...

Damn too much complaining. I bet most here was just waiting for the show to start and just couldn't wait to diss it. Dosen't anyone here just luvs wrestling no matter what company it is. WWE or TNA? The show started with a womens match. SO WHAT!!! Sometimes Raw does the same thing and no one gives a shit about that. But oh....its WWE so thats ok. TNA knows that the womens matches are a strong part of their program so why not have the fans see some eye candy (if you will) go at it. The X-division match was tooooooooo short I will agree...Lethal did all that on PPV and then is jobbed in 2 minutes. Bad Booking. Angle,Booker,Sting, and Nash should have went with "The Elite" as their name not the "Main Event Mafia" which is corny as hell but other than the name the story seems to be building just fine. Now the damn announcement wasn't that great but they could have did a lot worse and they could have did a lot better. I thought Foley was going to return as Cactus Jack, but ehh...part owner. Not that big but it works. The show could have used some more wrestling, but they where concerned more with progressing the storylines tonight which they did. The crowd was hott all night and involved so it gave the show a good vibe. I would give it a 7 outta 10. Some of you need to stop watching the damn show if you think its that damn badd. Why are you wasting your time people.

how in the world do you have a great and epic feeling X-Division number one contender match at the PPV and the give away a 2 minute abortion of a match that punks out a guy that they have built up 100 times to be a star. Once again he turns out looking like the biggest bitch in the world.

Broke my self-imposed TNA exile to catch the last half of the show.

Nash pins Joe. Yep, way to make Joe look even weaker. Good job, TNA!

Matt Morgan - one week he's getting a vid package making him look like a monster. The next week he's getting pinned in a chump match. Then he's gone. Then he's back and a chump. This week he's a monster. MAKE UP YOUR GODDAMN MINDS, TNA!

Foley's announcement - BORING. The speech he gave to Kurt just sucked. Kurt is a heel. He cares about himself and nothing else. That's how a heel works. Appealing to the heel's loyalty to the company is like appealing to a politician's ethics... you're appealing to something non-existent.

I am a HUGE TNA fan so it pains me to put down anything they do but this was a bitter disappointment.

The entire show felt rushed and they tried to jam too much soap opera nonsense into the broadcast.

The ring is there, use it.

I sure hope next weeks is MUCH better.

On the bright side it was STILL better than RAW but thats like saying I enjoy pissing more than taking a shit so ...

Not a bad show, though weak on wrestling. As they were finally beginning to advance the story line, I can live with that. The MEM has possibilities.

The ending was interesting, but for one thing. Jarrett was droaning on about the Guns and others wanting their shot. Where was anybody to save Joe and AJ when they were getting beat down?

Will Cage join the MEM? What about Steiner when he comes back? Team 3D? Oh, and Foley "bought" into the company, but will he screw Jarrett at some point?

There are possibilities with the story line. I know people are going to say we've been there and done that, and they are right. But sometimes history repeats itself in wrestling, and it can work or fail depending on how it's done.

Will this get ratings? I hope so, but the odds are against it. I want wrestling, whether TNA, WWE, NWA or ROH, to do well and get ratings so we get more shows. Just being a fan I guess.

If the story line doesn't work and it's obvious a month or two down the line that it won't, simply unify the Legend and TNA belts with AJ or one of the young guns going over.

What do they have to lose at this point? I'm sure Spike is pleased with the 1.0's and 1.1's the show is getting, and that's not likely to drop significantly because of this. Maybe it will grow? That's the point.

Joe didn't need to look weak, but at least it was because Nash hit him with the belt. I'm afraid Joe as champ probably won't happen again for a while.

I still say they should bring Matt Morgan up to the main event within the next few months and turn him loose. It could be a good thing and would be different. The man is impressive.

I'm happy Kong got the belt off of what's her name.

I'm glad to see Impact outside Orlando. They need to do more of this. If they can do PPV's outside Orlando, they can do Impacts too. More live shows would be good too, but I know these things cost money.

To get the ratings, they may need to do things like that and shake things up. They are within a point of Smackdown and ECW, for anyobody who cares of such things, but getting that point isn't easy.

Personally, I could care less as long as I have a show to watch.

Anyway, not a great "wrestling" show, but I found things I enjoyed. At least they are trying to do something.

I still say Kurt Angle is one of the best things going in wrestling today, but I've been a big fan of his since the days he came out preaching about the three I's.

That's my opinion, for whatever that's worth. Now on to Smackdown...

What is WWE doing that is so great that TNA isn't doing? TNA Impact seemed like a better show tonight because watching the show from the same crowd in Orlando is getting old. Once TNA has Impact in a different city each week it will change the foundation. Mick Foley being a shareholder in TNA is funny because wasn't he signed for 6 months. The Main Event Mafia and The Legends title has potential. RESPECT!

They should have gone full out with the ending and said JJ and Dixie want out of the business and sold it to Foley. Then have Foley not book Angle, Booker, etc each week and just nothing but X Divison and originals. Force Daniels to unmask and make him remember how great he was. Then each week you have the Main Event Mafia pissed they have to buy tickets just to be in the building.

Oh well TNA will always be TNA and be totally worthless

Posted By: Guest#2480 (Guest)  on October 24, 2008 at 03:36 AM

@KD - You want to know why people are complaining about this? Because TNA has a deep, talented roster AND THEY WASTE IT EVERY WEEK. They have the opportunity to set up compelling feuds AND THEY WASTE EVERY ONE. They have a perfect chance to create new fans and hang on to the old ones every week they ply their craft AND THEY WASTE IT.

You say the crowd was hot all night? This may be true, but did you hear a lot of boos tonight? No! TNA fans apparently cheer ANYONE who walks down the damn ramp without giving a damn whether or not they're SUPPOSED to be cheering them. If you're trying to get someone over as a heel and your fans cheer him no matter what, what's the point in even HAVING heels and faces? (In before Russologic.)

And if you're a WRESTLING PROMOTION, it might help to have SOME GODDAMNED WRESTLING ON YOUR FLAGSHIP SHOW. (Especially when it's the only free show you get each week!) If you go with the approximate times of the matches tonight as outlined in the recap, there was less than a half-hour of wrestling tonight. Let me say that again, in case you can't comprehend that -- less than a quarter of a show from a PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING PROMOTION was actually dedicated to WRESTLING. The rest was either backstage segments, the Main Event Mafia taking the whole damn show over (including Kurt Angle involved in TWO in-ring segments that featured no wrestling at all), or other miscellaneous bullshit that added nothing to the show whatsoever. And then there's the disappointing main event interview, which basically told us that TNA's rehasing the Commissioner Foley character from the WWF circa 2000. Absolutely MINDBLOWING...not.

While it's nice to see them finally trying to create a central storyline (the Main Event Mafia vs. the New Generation) and using that to ignite new feuds, the damage they've done to themselves is too little too late. They've destroyed the credibility of their championships, they've destroyed the credibility of most of their main eventers, they've destroyed the X-Division, and unless they get the title on someone OTHER than Awesome Kong by the end of the year and introduce some fresh blood, the Knockouts division will be destroyed as well.

TNA has a lot of potential, but it seems as if they're not willing to learn from the past (like, say, the history of WCW between 1999 and the final Nitro) and are trying to pander to a specific audience (former WWE fans) instead of trying to put on a show all wrestling fans can enjoy.

TNA is doomed to failure unless they turn themselves around, and while tonight's show is something of a start, it may end up being a case of too little, too late. If TNA's around at the end of next year, I'll be incredibly surprised.

Early estimates show that this show will be the highest rated TNA iMPACT in the history of the company. Not counting the DVR viewers, our respondents seemed to be enjoying the show tonight, and it's looking like a record 2 MILLION people had nothing better to do, therefore it's possible that the ratings will be close to a 1.5-1.6. Thank you for supporting Nielsen...we need more people like you to help TNA get the additional ratings to finally beat WWE. Have a great night!

Pretty sad when the new Legend belt looks far more imposing and important than the world title belt... the TNA world title belt is wayyy to small... and needs a bit of colour and diamonds in it too.

Sounded like an ok show actually... but I can't say that I'm particularly interested in the pay off.

overall better than Raw this week but thats not hard to do oh and one more thing

Very weird show that should've been better considering the circumstances. The X Title match was a joke and I'm not interested in a Rhino/Sheik fued. And it may just be me, but Lauren annoys the hell out of me. The Knockouts Title match was good, but like everything else, it was too short. I actually like the Main Event Mafia and I thought the backstage segment was pretty funny. I'm not too into the Legends belt thing, but Book and Cage were great. It's hilarious how when Bok gets mad, he goes back to his normal voice and when he did it, Christian started laughing for real. Good stuff. I have no idea what Foley's role will actually be. Nobody's brought this up, but where does this leave Cornette?

Well, more Tony Schiavone-esque hyperbole from TNA this week. Who gives a shit if Mick Foley is a "part owner" of TNA now? Sure the potential is there for Foley to side with originals and actually make this interesting, but if there is one thing that TNA has proven in the last few years, it's that they actively TRY to flush any potential they have down the toilet...so I'm not exactly holding my breath. If nothing else, at least the shows are "about something" now with the Main Event Mafia vs. Originals storyline.

Oh, I just HAVE to get this out of my system......I FUCKING HATE what they've turned Booker T into!! I would rather listen to Stone Cold stand in a ring for 15 minutes saying nothing but "What?!?!?" over and over again than listen to Booker T speak for 10 seconds. It was mildly entertaining in WWE because at least there, in a kayfabe sense, he was King of the Ring. Here, he just decided to start talking like an ass-clown for no reason (at least that I'm aware of). He's essentially Santino without actually being funny. NOT someone I would want as one of the centerpieces to the main storyline of the show. Bring back the ass-kicking Booker T!

I've been doing research on the net about AJPW and NJPW. From what I understand, they concentrate more on wrestling and are not driven by storylines.

Now, if I could only understand what the hell they are saying when watching the youtube videos.

What language do they speak in Japan anyway?

Oh, guess I'll have to stick with the men's soap opera known as WWE and TNA until a wrestling organization comes around again.

Seems there is more wrestling and less storytelling on CCW.

Main Event Mafia: Sure, it's just a new name for the Millionaires Club gimmick that Vince Russo already used in WCW, but I enjoyed the official introduction to the group. Well, actually I didn't think much of it until Sting entered the room wearing a suit. He came across as a dark character and for the first time I felt like I could actually see him playing a true heel role.

Mick Foley: Did the big announcement live up to the hype? I guess it depends what you were expecting. I never got my hopes up for anything monumental so I was fine with the announcement because it puts Foley in a logical role and he did an exceptional job of setting it up. The only thing that really bothered me about this segment was that it felt too similar to the storyline of Ric Flair buying in to WWE.

Awesome Kong vs. Taylor Wilde: It started with the backstage promos that effectively set up their match. Once in the ring, they delivered a crowd pleasing, rapid fire match that concluded with Kong finally regaining her title. They should have given this match more time, but it was really entertaining while it lasted.

Kevin Nash and Sting vs. Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles: The point of this match should have been to make Joe and Styles look like stars and it just didn't play out that way. There were more boos than cheers for Joe, and the babyfaces just didn't come across well. The fans cheered the recognizable stars and it was hard to blame them given that they weren't given any reason to rally behind Joe and Styles.

Matt Morgan and Abyss: The "best friends" talk is so sappy. They just started teaming together and suddenly they're telling each other they're best friends every 30 seconds. Are they teenage girls? They remind me of Big Bird and Snuffalufagus. Morgan is tall enough to be Big Bird, and Abyss has the hair and even sounds just like Snuffalufagus. By the way, I swear I'm not smoking pot as I write this.

Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Jay Lethal: A two-minute X Division Title match? I miss the old X Division when the wrestlers were allowed to go out there and tear it up. Bashir is a solid champion and there are still plenty of talented X Division performers, but it's become a frustrating and disappointing as the way WWE pushed its cruiserweight wrestlers.

Bashir and Rhino confrontation: It started off well enough, as Rhino's delivery was intense. I didn't care for the verbiage because Rhino came across like a meathead for saying this is his country while talking to a character who has been portrayed as an American citizen. Things really took a turn for the worse when Bashir attacked Rhino. This had to be a live segment because there's no excuse for airing such a sloppy brawl.

I'm taking the wait-and-see approach to this. I do think the matches should've been much longer, especially considering they had a chance to really win over the audience with their talent.

I LOVED the new legends' championship, as well as the interaction between Booker T and Christian. Man I hope Cage stays because he really has a chance to be a star in TNA.

As for the rest, I like the Main Event Mafia idea, and I understand that the heels have to go over so that the faces eventually rally. My only concern is who will join up with AJ and Joe.

I think we should all wait and see how this plays out, but it's fun to see an acutal WRESTLING promotion that has an exciting atmosphere for once.

KD, I agree with what you wrote...some people just want to complain thinking they know the long term booking of this plan.

For once we have a stable in the MEM that isn't based on some stupid love triangle complete with overracting (Edge/Vickie) or some stable that's only about one person (Evolution).

Also, instead of people always crying about what wasn't right, i'm giving credit to what is good about TNA. First, the tag team division is as hot as it's been since the LAX/Phenomenal Angels days. Also, with Kong at the top of the heap in the Knockouts Division it will garner more interest to see who can knock her off her porch.

I think most fans really want to see TNA put it all together, and I believe that with Mick Foley around perhaps he can somehow influence the booking of what could be a great storyline headed into 2009.

Both TNA and the "E" should just stop altogether. It is getting ridiculous because wwe raw/smackdown are vamping for cena, orton, and edge to return; so those products are going to shit. TNA is buying up old washed up wrestlers and taking great airtime for the new breed to shine in the spotlight. Nash, Sting, Foley, Christian, etc, why are these guys getting even an ounce of airtime?!?

All I can say is it was a shit load better when it was just wcw, ecw, and wwf separate on the tv. Since the buyout, stone cold and rock leaving, nothing has been the same. I watched the ESPN Brock Lesnar segment and he mentioned "Do I want to be doing this (meaning wrestling for wwe) for the next 20 years and looking like a broken man?". In so many words, but the point is where and when does this end?

Most guys lose their passion, heart, and desire to do this type of sport. I for one, am bored with the same shit every week. There are no more drawn out storylines, the wrestling is bad, and i guarantee I won't watch TNA or raw/smackdown/ecw after last week.

TNA needs to educate the guys in the truck on what the blading position looks like. This was the most obvious one on TNA since Perry Saturn and D-Lo Brown in 2002/03...not to be outdone by Jericho in the most recent Elimination Chamber. Way to keep the camera on Joe as he was playing w/his wrist tape as well as having a closeup on his blood free forehead and then 10 seconds later have a trickle of blood. .05 on the Muta scale for those keeping score. AJ did a much better job doing the Hogan/Corino-esque standing blade job. As said earlier, great job focusing on Hebner picking up the blade, just like he did during Hogan-Slaughter in WM7.

Posted By: Sturge (Guest)  on October 24, 2008 at 12:38 PM

It was great seeing Joe fumble around with the tape on his wrist for what seemed like 5 minutes, then see hebner grab the blade.. and then see the same thing happen w/ AJ.. holding onto the blade for ages trying to ditch it & finally hebner comes to grab it. All in glorious HD on my 46" set. I mean one or two shots I could deal with, but they probably showed 6-7 Close-Ups and as many more wide shots where you could CLEARLY see all this going on... Great job once again by the TNA production folks!!

No loyalty as such to either promotion, but I watched Raw and Impact this week.

Firstly, stop saying it's a two hour show, it's not, it's 80 minutes at best with all the commercials.

At the least, there should be 40 minutes of matches, 26 minutes is not acceptable, so this clearly needs to improve. However, this is nothing different to what was delivered on RAW.

Difference is, I skipped through most of RAW as it bored me to tears.

I doubt I will watch RAW for a while, I don't think I can stomach the tripe they are putting on at the moment.

What TNA needs is Heyman to replace Russo. TNA can then become a real alternative.

On a side note, notice how many times the words "Wrestling", "Wrestlers" and "Fans" were used tonight?

At least TNA isn't claiming it's contained within it's own "Universe".

Until it does, TNA will get my vote over the terrible dog egg television that Vince is content to shill.

I never said the show was perfect, but it wasn't that bad at all. Hell TNA isn't the only company wasting talent cause the WWE does it just as bad and on a whole nother level. It just seems like everytime I read the TNA report posters just can't waste to dis it. I bet some never even look at it and post BS anyway. Does TNA pull some stupid stunts and have some booking issues, hell yea, but its not that big of a deal. The show is still different enough from the WWE if you want to see something other than HHH, VinnieMac and etc. GO WRESTLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This show should be renamed Total Nonstop Acting because it has so much segments. You have so much segments that you only have 25 minutes of wrestling, when you should have at least 40!

ouch smackdown 3rd rate man that hurt...well with vickie at thelm yea i feel the same way. vince needs to capitalize on this tna is sinking its time to buy it haha also a legends championship? who in tna takes the titla as a TNA legend no one but maybe sharkboy because he has been with the company since day 1 but everyone else hell ne mick should have stayed on smackdown all vince has to do is bring back hardcore matches the hardcore title perhaps and make into an ECW hardcore television championship that would blow TNA into 2000 and join the wcw brand in the fiery pits of cancelled hell

Note to TNA: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? Let's see the following formulas: 1. the first ECW World Title + orange paint = the FTW Title. 2. the old WWF Title + the Undisputed WWE Title = the TNA World Title. 3. a one night stand between the FTW Title and the TNA World Title = the bastard, I mean, Legends Title. I piss better than that piss ass "title" of theirs. Mick Foley's now "running" TNA? Whoopidy Fuckin' Doo! What's his salary, 1 million cheeseburgers an hour a day? The Main Event Mafia? More like the Greedy Ass Popcorn Farts. A grey goof, a fake ass African king, an Olympic pharmaceutical nightmare, and Mr. I'll stay away while getting paid. Seriously, somebody just push the goodbye button on TNA. Oh wait, Russo's still on the payroll. There's a great ratings grabber. Hey Vince, why don't you bring in McCain and Palin? Make McCain the new TNA World Champion and Palin the new Knockouts' Champion. Can you say Money In The Bank? Hey, he might go for that stupid shit. Remember, this is Vince Russo. They should've stuck with 3 belts, 86'd the Vets vs. TNA Originals idea and kept the belt on Joe. But since they didn't, this is the result. Come on McMahon, just cut Dixie Carter and the Jarretts a check and get it over with. You know you want to, you know they want you to and so do everybody else with half a brain.

They haven't written the Main Event Mafia to be faces. If you see the way Booker, Angle, and Nash talk and cheat in the ring it is clear they are heels. Booker makes a title for himself. Angle assaults everyone and threatens to attack Jarrett's daughters. Nash insults the fans costs Joe the title and also uses Sting's belt to win a match. All obvious heel tactics.

The problem is Sting is a little bitch and doesn't want to act heel. If he did the fans would be the MEM out of the stadium.

Sting coming out all corporate like was interesting, but the Main Event mafia sounds like a tired old idea with a different name. And if TNA thinks they have a chance at the wwe's fan base, they have got to have more televised wrestling and longer matches. AWA used to guarantee no commercial breaks during their championship matches in the 80's, and it was a novel idea. if you want soap opera'ish storylines, wwe is better. having better quality wrestling is actually easier to attain

Don't waste ya time with these folks. They complain, complain, complain cause they have nothing better to do. 1st it was WWE bonly, then they complain there was no other show and WWE sucks without competition. Then TNA comes and gets on TV and since day one they complain yet still watch the WWE and eat the same BS every week. Both shows aren't to hot right now to tell you the truth. Some of you need to get a life, get a wife, or go get a damn job. You people think u know it all in wrestling and think your opinions count..haha! Just be a damn fan for once in your life and stop being so unhappy cause HHH keeps winning the title or TNA keeps jobbing out its stars. Who cares. If you don't like it, stop watching and reading about it. Your ruining wrestling for the rest of us you jackasses!

LOL, I thought WWE was bad right now, but TNA makes it look golden. As for the people saying "Vince, hurry and buy this"....why??? There's no talent in this company, and no redeeming value to anyone there. If Vince bought it, it would simply be to tell all the old-castoffs to get down on their knees and suck off Patterson, or take a hike. Of course, even the ones that did suck he'd still just bury so it wouldn't matter anyways. Seriously, this shit makes the Hogan WCW days seem good.
