411's ECW of Sci-Fi Report 3.10.09
Posted by Michael Bauer on 03.10.2009

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

We get the hype for the Tri-Branded Battle Royal for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match to open the show before the normal video. Matt Striker and Todd Grisham at ringside as always.

The Miz (with John Morrison) vs. Primo Colon (with Carlito and The Bella Twins)

We get clips from last week's Dirt Sheet as The Miz come out to the ring. They have fake "colons" for faces and it was pretty funny. Matt Striker asks why they would call them a punctuation marks. HA! The Bella Twins… OH MY GOD! John Morrison and Carlito do commentary as the bell rings. They lockup and Miz with a go-behind and Primo reverses. Miz gets to the ropes and gets a headlock. Miz grounds him and Primo punches out before reversing. Primo with a shoulder block off an irish whip and a leg sweep for a two counts. Miz gets dropkicked into the corner and then bounced off the turnbuckle for another two count. Primo whipped into the corner, but Miz walks into the boots. Primo goes to the apron, but Miz catches him with a forearm to send Primo to the floor as we go to commercial at 2:10.

Back at 5:45 and The Miz has Primo in a chinlock, but Primo elbows out and whips Miz into the corner. Primo is flips to the ring apron and hits a huge flying cross body from the top. Miz whips Primo off the ropes, Primo ducks clothesline, but he misses another cross body and rolls to the floor. Miz follows and decks him right in front of the twins. Primo rolled into the ring and he gets his throat slung into the bottom rope for two. Miz locks Primo in a surfboard type submission, driving the knee into the back. Primo gets to his fees and he slugs Miz as Miz backs Primo into the corner and puts him on the turnbuckle. Primo fights Miz off and slips around to hit an electric chair drop! Miz and Primo start slugging and primo hits a back elbow and a series of dropkicks, including a springboard dropkick for two. Miz stops a whip and hits a front Russian Leg Sweep, slamming Primo into the mat head first for a two count. That looked nasty. Primo backs Miz into the ropes and rolls him up, but Miz reverses for two. Miz runs into a back elbow, Primo goes to the 2nd rope and somehow Miz slams him out of a spinning body press for two. Miz stalks Primo as he goes into the corner and Primo dodges the clothesline. Miz is hung in the ropes and Primo hits the Backstabber for the three count at 14:50! The Bella Twins are really happy and that makes me happy!

Winner: Primo Colon

Match Rating: ***1/2 That should be a four star match, but Morrison and Carlito killed the first two minutes of the match. But this match was amazing from start to finish. Can't wait for the Tag Team Title Match on Smackdown.

We get a hype video for 12 Rounds and then see Great Khali getting ready for the Battle Royal backstage.
ECW rewind from last week to set up the next match between Tyson Kidd and DJ Gabriel.

Tyson Kidd (with Natalya) vs. DJ Gabriel (with Alicia Fox)

Alicia comes out dancing, but DJ is not in the mood to do so. The bell rings and Tyson strikes fast with a kick, but DJ Gabriel hits a series of European Uppercuts and whips Kidd into the corner, but Tyson slips out with a drop toe hold into the turnbuckle. Tyson Kidd hits a series of kicks to the chest for a two count. Tyson locks in a camel clutch with one arm tied in his legs, but Gabriel powers out. Tyson with a few kicks and he comes off the ropes and tries some cruiserweight type move, but DJ just powers into a German Suplex for two. DJ just starts pounding away on Tyson Kidd. DJ goes for a vertical suplex, but Kidd uses some momentum to slip out and as he does so he snaps DJ's neck on the top rope. DJ is down and Tyson Kidd comes from the ring apron into a springboard elbow drop for the three count at 3:25.

Winner: Tyson Kidd

Match Rating: *1/2 It was alright, but they just didn't seem to flow together the greatest.

We get another Evan Bourne clip and he is coming back next week! Why couldn't he be in the Money in the Bank. You know that would be sick.

We go to clips from Randy Orton at his home and Triple H's decimation of Randy at the house.

Tri Branded Battle Royal for a spot in the Money in the Bank Match

Ok, I'm going to do the best I can here, but let's be honest, this is really hard to recap. My main goal is to make sure I get all the eliminations.

Participants (in no order thanks to a commercial break during the entrances):
Christian, Tommy Dreamer, William Regal, The Great Khali, Vladimir Kozlov, Dolph Ziggler, Goldust, JTG, Shad, R-Truth, Ricky Ortiz, Kung-Fu-Naki, Jimmy Wang Yang, Charlie Haas, Paul Burchill

The bell rings and all hell breaks loose. What else did we expect?

The Great Khali eliminates Ricky Ortiz in five seconds.
Vladimir Kozlov dumps Kung-Fu-Naki and Great Khali dumps Kozlov!
Everyone gangs up on Great Khali and eliminates him!
Jimmy Wang Yang is eliminated as Goldust gets dumped by Dolph Ziggler.
Cryme Time eliminate Charlie Haas and Dolph Ziggler!
Burchill gets dumped by Shad and JTG after he barley hung on.
Shad gets dumped to the floor by JTG right as we go to a commercial.

All of that happens in about a minute and half before a commercial. Well, that was fun.

Back from the break and we only have five men left. Chavo, R-Truth, Regal, Dreamer, and Christian as JTG was eliminated by R-Truth during the break. We get a huge tower of something as everyone was involved.

Dreamer hits a nasty DDT on Regal, but Regal is able to eliminate him as Dreamer tried to get him over.

Christian and R-Truth fight it out and Christian eliminated R-Truth.

Chavo tries to eliminate Christian, but Christian uses his legs to hang on. Christian tries to go after Chavo, but Regal intervenes and hits a suplex on Chavo into Christian. Regal throws Christian to the apron, but Regal charges and gets dumped to the floor by Christian!

Down to Christian and Chavo and Chavo goes for the three amigos. Christian is down and Chavo goes up top, but Christian avoids it and Chavo rolls through. Christian and Chavo trade reversals on big moves. Christian throws Chavo to the apron and Christian comes over. Chavo pulls Christian to the apron and moves men trade blows. Christian elbows Chavo off using his momentum and is able to hold on to the ropes for the final elimination! Christian is going to WrestleMania!

Winner: Christian

Match Rating: ** I'll give it two stars before everything after the commercial was worthy of a good match. But before the commercial was simply a clusterfuck.

So basically watch the first 2 matches (the 2nd for Alicia Foxx & Natalya) and then call it a day.

o common just push the fricking 1/2 star you know it was a 4 star match,im very proud of The Miz

I agree the first part was great but the commercial in the middle made it seem like TNA I like TNA but the constant commercials are annoying.

By the way who else can't wait to see Evan Bourne return?

Great show as usual from ECW.Seems like Christian is winning that MITB,even though MVP is my other option aswell.

Quite a fan of Kidd and I'd love to see him face Bourne soon.

Primo/Miz was really a great TV match,Primo's best singles match aswell.

Good recap also.

Is in not strange that WWE decides to tell us all that Orton has a wife when they just did a story line a few weeks ago where Orton had a one night stand with kelly kelly. So in essence Orton cheated on his wife. But then again Orton can not “control” his actions, or so were told.

Also Ortons "wife" did not even act scared in the kitchen when Triple H asked her where orton is.

Very awesome that christian is in MITB.

Very, very awesome.

Miz Vs Primo was a terrific match. Primo is very impressive and Miz has improved as much as anyone can in the last year plus. Gabriel Vs Kidd was just way too short to really show you anything. The Battle royal was pretty bad until the 4-5 guys were left and Christian and Chavo had a nice finishing sequence. I had hoped we'd get another Christian Vs Swagger match at Wrestlemania. This was a fairly good show and watching the closing to Raw again was as funny as it was the first time.

Christian should NOT be in the MitB match. Neither should Punk. Christian/Swagger and Punk/JBL should both have been saved for the Wrestlemania undercard. MitB is starting to hurt Wrestlemania more than help it. At least in my opinion.

Technically, Dolph Ziggler went through the middle ropes so he legally is still in the match until he jumps over the top rope at some point.

I guess they didn't highlight that part to us.

Honestly I don't think Tyson Kidd should have won against DJ Gabe because I still think Kidd sucks. He will never get over with that weak ass elbow drop (this isn't the 80's anymore!) I see way more potential in DJ than I do Kidd and I personally think this was a bad move to put Kidd over DJ.

Natalya is hot though so Kidd can stay on my TV as long as he brings her along

mark henry + money in the bank = epic epic fail :(

Yeah, I was expecting Dolph Ziggler to come out from under the ring and eliminate Christian. He didn't go over the top rope.

Miz/Primo was pretty damn good. Didn't expect that.

Hey, with the way WWE has been firing people for the slightest problem, he might be out too...

Miz vs Primo was gold. These are the best two teams in all the land, cannot wait for them on Friday and then hopefully for both titles at WM25 (probably with the Bellas turning on the Colons)

Kidd is pretty good, just getting better each week, don't rush him...expected a lil bit more from him and Gabriel who other than the terrible gimmick isn't that bad either. Them, Bourne, Christian, Miz, Morrison, Burchill, SWAGGER...ECW is set up pretty nice...(Until the draft takes most of them away)

Well your opinion is incorrect...Wrestlemania is when Vince draws his greatest amount of casual viewers...do you think they would be more interested in an 8 man ladder match for a title shot or a couple of matches they haven't really seen a feud building (not to mention that there WAS NO feud for JBL/Punk) so to make that a Mania match seems a little absurd

dont why ppl are happy with christian in mitb.

It would have been cool to see the final match to the Christian VS Jack Swagger feud at Mania, but I'll gladly take a victory for Captain Charisma in MITB instead.

Did anybody catch Matt Striker calling the European Uppercut by DJ Gabriel a "Shoryuken?" Matt's been playing some Street Fighter IV I bet.

I loved this week's ECW
It was another top to bottom action driven show, 3 good tv match. The battle royal was great. The physical interplay made it unpredictable how people were eliminated in most cases, especially at the end with Christian doing the bungie kick between the ropes for the win.

If your going watch WWE TV, then spend more time rewinding and seeing who got threw the ropes and if Orton's character is correlating with actions to an angle that was forgotten 2 months ago (Kelly Kelly one nigh stnad), well you don't want to be entertained. You just want to be a jaded sarcastic and esoteric jerk who complains their fantasy booking blogs are not being used on a tv show watch by millions of people around the world.

Winner: Tyson Kidd

Match Rating: *1/2 It was alright, but they just didn't seem to flow together the greatest.

Totally disagree with this. DJ and Tyson put on as good as a match that you can for just over 3minutes and they both worked their asses off non stop for that 3minutes. As a matter of fact, they gelled together better than Miz and Primo and THEY'VE been working together for weeks now and this to young'ins just had their first one on one match on TV.

I didn't know DJ had that type of hustle...they need to repackage him and do something with him....

I'm interested to see what they do with Swagger at Wrestkemania. He has to be on the card due to his (quasi)world title. He could defend against Bourne I suppose, but then Christian and Bourne would be in each other's rightful place.

I'd still love Rey/Bourne vs Mizorrison at WM, but after the Primo/Miz match, I'd be happy enough with Colons/Mizorrison.

And, just like last year I'd like to see a back-to-back winner of MitB, but I know have to consider Christian the favourite.

Posted By: Mr Quimby's Beard (Guest)  on March 11, 2009 at 05:10 AM

Evan Bourne...because of him, I cringe whenever they call Mysterio the 'E's greates high-flier. Sorry Rey, but Evan displays a vertical leap, and in-air control far superior to anyone I've ever seen. And that's all throughout the industry. Strictly speaking on high-fliers, noone has impressed me the way Evan has.

Having Christian in the MITB is the right move, i would expect him to win it tho MVP has a good chance also.

Wow, still no love for Tyson Kidd! I'm a mark for stiff kicks, so his style really appeals to me.

Really fun episode this week. I don't get Smackdown, so there were some pleasant surprises. Primo is really good. He has that "spark" in the ring that Carlito never had. And how over is R-Truth? Damn. Interesting how the two most over guys on the show are former TNA champions. Just sayin'.

"We get another Evan Bourne clip and he is coming back next week! Why couldn't he be in the Money in the Bank. You know that would be sick."

of course it would, but he's only just come back from injury and he appears to be a prized asset for the E and its ECW brand. putting him in the ladder match leaves potential for re-injury.
everyone forgets how dangerous ladder matches are.
it would be a much safer bet putting him in there with mysterio or swagga

There was a great little thing during the Primo/Miz match. When Morrison was on commentary he did the line about them being the greatest tag team of the 21st century. For just a moment in the background I saw him take off his headset and do the head turn! Just an awesome committment to character doing something almost no one would even catch. I hope he's the last MITB entrant unless they're going tag titles vs titles at Mania.

The battle royal was awful, with the outcome clear the moment Kozlov was eliminated. Big props to Christian though for how he teetered on the ropes. A couple times I thought he would fall and accidentally be eliminated. I do think he's the favorite followed by MVP.

Morrison and Carlito should be a commentary team, ABSOLUTELY hilarious.

gotta love the contradiction - the first 2 minutes were crap...the match was awesome from start to finish. Brilliant writing

Brilliant reading, Guest 6175. Apparently saying that the commentary killed the first two minutes = "the first two minutes sucked."

so christian isn't even the no1 contender for the ecw championship. that sucks

Posted By: hjiro (Guest)  on March 11, 2009 at 03:12 PM

Three and a half stars from the Miz is a thermodynamic miracle in and of itself.

And randomly, my brother caught the end of Raw, and his comment was priceless: "Wow. Randy's wife can act as well as Kimberly Page." (I'm assuming it's really his wife only because they'd probably have hired someone with a LITTLE more acting ability even for a one-shot deal like that.)

Tyson Kidd's name is full of suck, in my opinion. Tyson Kidd himself, is full of awesome. Still, I think it's odd that they're giving him, a non-blood relative, pretty much Harry Smith's gimmick entirely. (And didn't Vince go nuts about him not being used recently?)

And yes, Christian is the most likely contender in MiTB, mainly because he has a solid core to his fanbase who'd buy him as a champion, and they can build on that. I'm not so sure MVP has that core.

If Christian wins the Money in the Bank match, then is he going to use it on ECW? I can't imagine they'd use it on the C show. An if he doesn't win the the ECW Title, then he'd be a guy who lost to the Champion of the C show.

Wow, way to be a dick.

Yeah, sure, there was no build to JBL/Punk. That obviously means that there is no way that they COULD build to JBL/Punk.

And Christian is Swagger's main rival at the moment, and the two are proven to be able to put on a good match. Even if you DON'T give Christian the strap at Mania, it is a very good way to showcase the brand.

I'm not saying scrap the MitB all together, I'm just saying that it is pointless putting people in it who could be delivering on other levels. Having MVP and Kofi and even people like Bourne and Mysterio, who aren't really up to much else at the moment, makes sense, but Punk and Christian have legitimate cases for singles matches at Mania, and should have got them.

Posted By: Shady Lurker (Guest)  on March 11, 2009 at 09:07 PM

THANK YOU SO MUCH VINCE! Christian can now win the money in the bank and gain his much deserved world title. I just hope they dont force him to use it in ECW.

Posted By: Sean (Guest)  on March 11, 2009 at 09:45 PM

I hate to shit on everybody's parade, but Christian is NOT going to win MITB - did you not see the complete LACK of audience reaction to him on RAW? Vince doesn't want to push Christian, its plain and simple. Hopefully a good showing for Christian in the match will go some way to getting back his heat though.

I'd say MVP is pretty much a shoe-in to win this one (though Kofi Kingston is a definite dark horse...). I'd also predict that this will be the year that the MITB winner will LOSE his title shot (even if he then wins a subsequent rematch) - it has to happen, its becoming too predictable that the MITB winner will cash in the shot and win the belt.

I knew that swing-up kick from the middle rope move that Christian started doing was going to pay off sometime. It was too cool not to.

I'm glad he's got a spot in Wrestlemania, but this leaves Swagger without an opponent, assuming the ECW title is going to be defended (I hope so). Strange, though...Evan Bourne returns next week...

I'm a big fan of Christian but he is never going to get a genuine big push in WWE and everyone knows it. Yeah sure, he will get the obligatory bland mid-carder card push with no promo time that everyone gets at some point, maybe one or two meaningless IC and US title reigns, but he is never going to be a major player and hold serious gold, and even he is well aware of that.

Aww... since when do we start comparing two rookies in a free tv match to two vets in a ppv match?

Posted By: Industry (Guest)  on March 12, 2009 at 10:37 PM

that literally has nothing to do with what you said. you said they put on as good a match as you can in just over 3 mins, not that they had the best on free tv for 2 rookies. and what does it matter about it being on tv or a ppv? it's still 3 minutes. so don't tread on me, honkey.
