411's ECW on Sci-Fi Report 3.17.09
Posted by Michael Bauer on 03.17.2009

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

We open with Finlay and Hornswoggle walking backstage and laughing at Teddy Long dressed like a Irish leprechaun. Hornswoggle runs off celebrating and disappears. Finlay says we are in trouble.

Opening video then plays and we head to Matt Striker and Todd Grisham. And we get hype for The Dirt Sheet tonight.

Christian and MVP vs. Shelton Benjamin and Mark Henry

We get highlights of Christian winning the Money in the Bank battle royal last week as he enters. MVP stares down Shelton as he enters and Mark Henry comes out just looking pissed. The bell rings as we start with MVP and Shelton Benjamin. Shelton downs MVP and gets a headlock. MVP with a whip, leap frog, and a hip toss takedown, getting a quick two count. Front facelock by MVP, but Shelton backs him up and hits some shoulders in the corner. MVP fights out with shots to both men, but Mark Henry uses a distraction to headbutt MVP. Shelton gets a two count at we go to commercial at 1:40.

We are back at 5:40 and MVP is fighting out of bearhug by MVP, until Henry rams him into the corner. Shelton tagged in and he hits a suplex before stomping away. Shelton with a front face lock as Striker just devalued the ECW Title even more while talking about Punk cashing in Money in the Bank last year. Shelton stops MVP from tagging in Christian after an escape. Shelton stalks MVP and leaps, but MVP blocks Shelton and hits an overhead belly to belly. Christian tagged in and he is a house of fire on Shelton. Shelton has a kick caught, but the spin kick is ducked and the inverted DDT gets two. Shelton misses a charge into the corner and Christian hits a Tornado DDT, but Mark Henry breaks it up. MVP comes in and starts punching away at Henry. Christian comes over and both men slide outside to drag Henry to the floor. Christian rolls back in, Tony Atlas distracts Christian, and Shelton hits Pay Dirt for the three count at 9:00.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin and Mark Henry

Match Rating: **3/4 Good, solid opener match. Christian taking the fall I don't like

We get a promo video for 12 Rounds.

Backstage, Finlay is looking for Hornswoggle and he runs into DJ and Alicia dancing backstage.

We get a WWE Remind of a bunch of Evan Bourne highlights. He is back tonight!

Tonight's WrestleMania rewind shows WrestleMania XX from New York City. But of course, they leave out any mention of Benoit's win. Got to love seeing Austin kick out Goldberg and Lesnar of the WWE.

Jamie Noble vs. Evan Bourne

Jamie Noble starts in the ring. And as Matt Striker says, the moment we have all been waiting for. The crowd goes nuts as THERE IS REASON TO REJOICE IN ECW LAND AGAIN!!! The bell rings and Jamie gets a single leg takedown and starts clubbing Bourne. Bourne slips out of a bodyslam and connects with an arm drag takedown and a nice back heel kick for two. Bourne and Noble switch arm wrenches and Noble throws Bourne into the corner. We see Tyson Kidd looking on. Noble stomps away at hits a legdrop for a two count. Noble with a Camel Clutch, but Bourne escapes. Noble grabs Bourne and Bourne hits a kick out of nowhere. Bourne runs off the ropes and hits a reverse hurricarana! Bourne connects with the standing moonsault and gets a two count. Bourne connects with a perfect kick to the jaw that backs Noble into the corner. Bourne charges and Noble gets the boots up. Noble charges, but Bourne leaps and hits a spinning heel kick that sends Noble down. Bourne goes up top… here it comes… SHOOTING STAR PRESS! Three count ends the match at 2:50.

Winner: Evan Bourne

Match Rating: ** Bourne and Noble have chemistry from their Ring of Honor days and it showed here. Bourne looks to have not lost a step and I am so glad to see that.

Backstage, Hornswoggle is scaring the crap out of Katie Lea as Finlay walks in and ushers him away.

Back from the break and ECW Champion Jack Swagger comes out to the stage with a microphone in hand. He says that he knows we all miss him in the ring, but he says he is giving us a service by letting us view the two-time, two-time All American. Hey Swagger, Booker T called. He wants his multiple time line back.

Backstage, Tiffany wants to do a Divas Night on ECW, which would hype up the 25 Diva Battle Royal for WrestleMania. Paul Burchill barges in and demands that Hornswoggle not be allowed backstage. Teddy Long tells him to go to the ring and Finlay will meet him there.

Raw Rebound this time focuses on the Edge/Big Show/Cena feud.

Paul Burchill (with Katie Lea) vs. Finlay (with Hornswoggle)

Paul and Katie start in the ring and Finlay gets a huge ovation. The bell rings and they lockup. Finlay gets Paul on his knees and clubs him in the face. Finlay stomps Burchill and hits a short arm clothesline for a two count. Hornswoggle dances on the announcer's table. Finlay gets distracted, but he catches Burchill charging and dumps him to the floor. Burchill nails Finlay in the gut and rolls Finlay in. Burchill with a rear chinlock and drops a knee to the chest for a two count. Finlay put in a headlock, but he hits a jawbreaker and starts punching away. Finlay gets caught by Burchill, sending Finlay to the floor. Burchill tries to leap onto Finlay, but Finlay catches his man-land on the ring apron. Burchill back in the ring and Finlay hits the seated splash. Finlay grabs Burchill and hits the Celtic Cross for the three count at 2:40.

Winner: Finlay

Match Rating: *1/4 Decent match, but nothing more than a reason to get Finlay an easy win on St. Patrick's Day.

It's time for The Dirt Sheet for Miz and Morrison! They are in the ring with the Bella Twins, who look fucking smoking. Morrison says everything looks fatter in Texas. The Bella Twins look kinda shocked when Morrison says they are their girlfriends. Bree doesn't know how to react, but her sister says that they like winners. We they look back at Miz and Morrison defeating the Colon Brothers last week on Smackdown. Bree looks annoyed as Primo and Carlito "appear" as Miz and Morrison put on the butt-heads. Morrison does fart beats as Miz raps. Primo and Carlito come out for real and they are bringing out palm trees for Carlito's Cabana. Carlito says they look better with the masks on. They are here for the cabana and Miz and Morrison are the not so special guests. Primo has a challenge for Miz and Morrison for WrestleMania. Morrison listens and Carlito says both teams have defended their titles. Carlito offers to put up BOTH titles and they will unify the Tag Team Championships! FINALLY! Miz and Morrison accept and they will prove that are the greatest team of the 21st century. Morrison ducks and Carlito spits apple into one of the Bella sisters. Bree laughs at Nickie and gets shoved down. Bree spears Nickie and to quote a former ECW announcer… CATFIGHT!!! Nickie leaves with Miz and Morrison as Bree stays with Carlito and Primo. We end the broadcast with the sister both looking pissed… and hot!

Decent show tonight. Can't wait to see a Tag Title match at Mania!

Who would have thought that a rivalry between the tag-team champions would actually main event a show.

Posted By: Guest#4098 (Guest)  on March 17, 2009 at 10:14 PM

and I mean that in a good way.

Posted By: Guest#8792 (Guest)  on March 17, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Sydal/Gibson actually never wrestled in ROH. They did one really good match in IWA-MS though.

Divas night on ECW?
no thanks

Posted By: barnaby (Guest)  on March 17, 2009 at 10:54 PM

Yeah Sydal and Gibson's match from IWA MS was awesome. Did they even face each other in ROH? Anyways I really liked this ECW glad the Tag belts have an actual angle for once!

I really like Christian and I want him to do very well this time around w/ the WWE, but it is very annoying how people get mad everytime he's pinned. He's not invincible. Get over it, he's in a high-profile match at Mania.

if only mark henry gets 'injured' on the ECW prior to WM, and has borune take his place... ah to dream.

Alicia Fox + Bella Twins + Green = Me in Love!

Holy crap, those three ladies looked gorgeous tonight

Posted By: monty (Guest)  on March 17, 2009 at 11:20 PM

The tag titles get unified at WM? Could this be the WWE actually giving a crap about tag teams again? Works for me.

ECW wasn't too bad tonight, although I do question what was the point of having Swagger come out there just to remind folks that he is still around.

Question: If a champion of a brand has no one challenging him for that belt, should we still care?

"Divas night on ECW? no thanks"

Hot girls?! Gross!

And what's this? It's not a Diva search T&A show, but they are actually having nothing but normal wrestling matches since WWE is PG now, and the show is being used to build up a WrestleMania match and therefore has a point? Oh, that's just......well, actually it's WWE trying something new.

"Hey Swagger, Booker T called. He wants his multiple time line back. "

DDP did that catchphrase first.

Decent show tonight. About the tag team match, it's great that they are actually going to have the tag titles on WM, and the Colons and Miz/Morrison have chemistry. However, can it be a blowoff match of some kind? They have gone back and forth in regular matches, how about a steel cage match, or tables, or somethign other than a regular match. Just an idea to spice things up.

Also, can Hornswoggle please go away, I hate him so much. He is so annoying, I really hate the writers for saddling Finlay with that little bastard.

I think it's pretty clear they're going to do Swagger vs Bourne at Mania, which would be terrific if given time. When they plan on announcing/building that match, no idea. If you rule out next week's show, there will be only one ECW left to build the match. Not like anyone will or wont buy the show because of an ECW title match anyway.

With all the crossover that's been occurring, and now the tag title unification, I'm giving the brand extensions 12 months on life support. It's either going to be eliminated or become very different from what it is now.

Christian made a career mistake returning to WWE unless all he is concerned with right now is the pay check. He proved in TNA that he has what it takes to be a solo star and WWE couldn't care less.

Did RVD resign or was it a one shot deal?

Posted By: Sonya (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 12:13 PM

>> Christian = MID CARDER FOR LIFE

You and Mark are correct, how can anyone expect him to win money in the bank his first year back after a 4 year hiatus? It was all about the money anyway.

>> The tag titles get unified at WM? Could this be the WWE actually giving a crap about tag teams again? Works for me.

Don't hold your breath. 5 tag teams between 3 shows and it hasn't changed for a while.

"And here we have a prime example, of your typical wrestling fan(more than likely a virgin) who needs the wwe t get one off."

And here we have some dude who likely screams and changes the channel when a woman comes on the screen because he doesn't like girls since he got his ass kicked by them in school on a daily basis.

Oooh LOOK I can out RANDOM words in UPPER case too!

Yeah and Midcarder for life? We'll see when he wins the MitB. TNA have been trying to use Christian's debut to say to their employees "LOLZ look what happens when you go to the WWE!" But after Mania they will have egg on their face when their talent say "....soooo if I go to the WWE I will get a world title shot....I see"

This was a solid show. i predicted the tag title storyline weeks ago

Posted By: THE-KingofKingz (Registered)  on March 18, 2009 at 07:35 PM

I will be very pleased if they do a Bourne/Kidd storyline. Talk about some good matches as long they don't give 3 min per match.

Posted By: nomar34 (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 08:50 PM

Bourne/Kidd will be an awesome fued, if that is what they are building towards...good job by the E on ECW, it is a great hour of wrestling....good matches, good announcers...good stuff I'm a fan

Posted By: Jay (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 09:27 PM

Who do I gotta stab to get Evan Bourne a match at wrestlemania? Why isn't he in the Money in the Bank match and why IS Mark Henry.

Maybe they'll do Bourne vs Hornswoggle, loser leaves FOREVER. Bourne wins btw....

Posted By: jaked (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 09:30 PM

Fun show! You can't go wrong with leprechaun Teddy Long, o'playa.

Mid-carder or not, Christian has great flow in the ring. Bourne/Kidd should deliver the goods too.

Does Jack Swagger have an injury we haven't heard about? Dude hasn't done anything for weeks. He may be the first reigning champion to be released because creative doesn't have anything for him.

What's up with Striker calling the Celtic Cross an "Emerald Fusion" again?

Primo did some decent stuff with Audioslave, but he really kicked ass in Soundgarden.

I wish Hornswoggle threw ranch dressing on Katie Lea, it would of had a nicer effect...Money shot!

Posted By: Guest#2892 (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 10:44 PM

I agree with Bobby.

Christian has great potential and will make it to the top some day. Everyone who complains every time someone pins him or beats him down or that he's on ECW or this or that are just unrelenting fanboys. Back off and have some perspective, FFS.

Common sense says you'll win some and lose some. That's just the luck of the draw if the fed's doing sensible or realistic booking. So, granted, some Hogan and Cena and Taker-types tend not to end up with many losses. But that's PART of why some fans "turn on them" and just think, "Yup. Another pointless victory." in some cases.

Christian's an interesting, dynamic character. Even if he doesn't win MITB, he'll still be entertaining. He still has a huge chance of "getting there" eventually. And everyone who loves to complain every time WWE doesn't put him in the main event needs to get over themselves and realize that their opinion doesn't equal "sound booking logic"...

-Ash

Posted By: Ash (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 10:57 PM

Christian quickly moved to the top of TNA and was booked shitty at the end. He fits good in WWE again. As far as him being a mid-carder, give it time! He can't win every match, and being pinned in a 6-man tag doesn't hurt his credibility. His ring work has never been better, and who knows what the long term plan for him is (clearly it isn't ECW). And if he did come back for the paycheck, good. Don't tell me you wouldn't have done the same thing.

Posted By: Guest#7501 (Guest)  on March 18, 2009 at 11:13 PM

I was at the taping, and let me just say WWE out did themselves on the "canned heat" for Finlay. When he came out about a fourth of the crowd booed, and everyone else was silent.

Posted By: Saba Simba (Guest)  on March 19, 2009 at 11:44 AM

Nice touch for the tag match at WM.. Despite jobbing in the space of a month & a half in WWE, more than he did in 3 years with TNA, I'm still confident of a Christian Success at WM, I mean who else will they go with?

Posted By: Propagandhi (Guest)  on March 20, 2009 at 03:28 PM

u got to be kidding right, Noble/bourne ** but it went for 2:58.

that was easily * squash, i think you overrated some of your things sometimes. especially that match.
