Excalibur opens the show and welcomes everyone back to PWG after a break from running shows. He says that 2009 is going to be a great year for the company. There will be some new faces in PWG. He announces that Low Ki, who won the 2008 BOLA tournament but is now working for FCW. Thus, there will not be a rematch with Chris Hero.

Opening Contest: Los Luchas vs. The Cutler Brothers: This is the debut of the Cutler Brothers in PWG. Phoenix Star and Dustin kick off the match. Star hits a middle rope springboard dropkick and a head scissors to get the advantage. The Cutler’s hit a rolling double shoulder block to get control of the match. No tag but Zokre hits a springboard cross body to take both men out. Star knocks them down with a springboard dropkick. Star clotheslines Brandon after he was monkey flipped by Star out of the corner. Brandon sends Zokre to the floor and knocks Star off the apron. Dustin is choking Star in the corner with a piece of exercise equipment while the referee was distracted. Brandon and Dustin hit slingshot splashes and a leg drop from the apron for a two count on Star. The Cutler Brothers lift Star into the air, who gets plenty of air time and crashes to the canvas. Star nearly wins with a flipping roll up attempt but Dustin kicks out at two. Zokre and Brandon get the hot tags with Zokre cleaning house. Double springboard moonsaults by Luchas but Zokre can’t get a three count. Zokre is driven back first into a corner and worked over by the Cutler Brothers. Dustin crashes to the floor thanks to Star and both are on the floor. Star takes Brandon out with a dive and Zokre does the same to Dustin on the floor! Luchas hit a Blockbuster/backbreaker move for a near fall on Brandon. Star hits a spine buster on Dustin but Dustin sends Zokre down with spine buster onto Star’s knees. They hit the Six Second Abs but can’t get a three count. Zokre is powerbombed into a corner but Star hits an ace crusher on Brandon for a near win. Star is slammed down by both men after a flipping motion for a two count. Zokre spears Brandon in midair! Brandon is pinned after a reverse Olympic Slam by Star. (**1/2. A decent opening match to kick off 2009 for the company. There was a few awkward moments during the match as they didn’t seem to have the timing down, but they eventually put together some nice spots and the crowd liked the match.)

Second Contest: TJ Perkins vs. Austin Aries: They start the match with some basic offense on the mat. Aries gets the better of Perkins by keeping control with a headlock. Aries avoids a dropkick by holding onto the ropes but misses an elbow drop due to playing the crowd. Perkins also misses an elbow drop as he was taunting Austin. Aries gets a two count after a jumping elbow drop and begins to chop Perkins. Aries hits a running bulldog but can’t get a three count on the cover. Perkins bails to the floor to avoid knee shots. Perkins comes back and surprises Aries with a dropkick. Aries gets out of a head scissors by dropkicking a seated TJ. Aries goes to the apron and goes for a senton splash but Perkins got his knees up to block it. Perkins begins to work over Aries with a couple of kicks. Aries nails TJ with a stiff kick to the back for a two count. Aries misses a dropkick in the corner and hits the turnbuckle hard. Perkins dropkicks Aries in the corner and gets a near fall. Aries slams Perkins down to the canvas and is able to hit his elbow drop. Perkins tries to grab Aries while he was on the floor but gets frustrated. Aries enters and delivers a knee shot but TJ reaches the ropes quickly. Perkins drops Aries arm across the top rope. TJ scoop slams Aries and heads to the middle rope where he hits an elbow drop for a two count. Perkins runs into a big boot in the corner. Perkins blocks the brain buster by hitting Austin with a knee and delivers a superkick! Perkins goes to the top rope and hits a frog splash for a near win! Aries rolls Perkins up for a close near win. Aries gets a couple of knee shots and goes for the brain buster but Perkins counters with a roll up for a two count. Aries hits a running dropkick in the corner for another two count. Aries goes to the top rope but Perkins kicks the referee into the ropes to crotch Aries on the ropes briefly. Perkins kicks Aries in the head and follows up with a back suplex. Perkins looks to lock in a cross arm breaker and has it locked in! Aries counters and starts to deliver knee shots. Aries locks in the Last Chancery and Perkins is forced to tap out! (***. A solid match between these two. I liked that Aries was determined to win with the Last Chancery. I’ve never been a huge Perkins fan but he did a good job here.)

Third Contest: Bobby Quance vs. Joey Ryan: This is the first match for Bobby Quance in four years as he left the business to be a Navy seal. This is promoted as his one night only return to professional wrestling. Quance controls Ryan with a wrist lock briefly until Joey reached the bottom rope. Quance isn’t able to get much going as Ryan hits an arm drag as the commentary team notes that Bobby may be a little rusty. Quance gets a knee bar locked in but Joey wiggles his way to the ropes to break the hold. Bobby hit a dragon screw and Joey bails to the floor again. Quance hit a nice standing hurricanrana and a dropkick. Ryan drops Bobby throat first across the top rope. They are on the floor where they trade a few blows with Joey getting the better of the exchange. Ryan gets a near fall following a dropkick. Ryan continues his offense with a snap suplex for a two count. Quance hit a really slow looking roll of the dice type of move to stop Joey’s offense. Quance its a nice rolling German suplex and a twisting kick for a near fall. Quance hits a twisting Perfect Plex for a near fall again! Ryan stops Quance with a spine buster. Ryan goes for a double under hook but Quance reverses with a cross arm breaker. Ryan blocks it and hits a spear. Quance hits the Olympic Slam and only gets a two count. Quance has the ankle lock on Ryan but is kicked to the floor. Joey takes Bobby out with a suicide dive! Quance hits a forearm shot and kips up. Quance goes for the superkick but misses and Ryan hits a superkick for a near win. They botch a Stunner, which Quance sells like the Rock would. So, that looked pretty bad. Quance kicked out at two. Quance counters a Stunner with a Rock Bottom for a near fall. Bobby goes for the Earthquake splash but misses! Ryan goes for a DDT but Quance counters and goes for a sharpshooter but Ryan gets out of it. Ryan tries for the crossface chicken wing but Quance sends him to the floor. Quance hits a nice hurricanrana on the floor! Bobby goes to the top rope but misses a shooting star press! Ryan plants Quance with the pedigree and doesn’t get a three count! Ryan hits a second pedigree and wins the match. (***1/4. A fun match between these two. The fact they did a bunch of finishing moves from the 90’s was humorous but the match was still good. I haven’t watched a lot of Quance, if any at all. He is a good wrestler and I may try to find more of his stuff in the future.) After the match, Ryan puts Quance over and the fans give him a standing ovation.

Fourth Contest: Bryan Danielson vs. Scott Lost: Lost attacks Danielson before the bell and pulls his shirt over his head to deliver a few right hands. Scott nails Danielson with a running knee to his face. Lost drives Bryan chest first across the ring apron. Lost spins around the ring post to dropkick Danielson! Scott dropkicks Danielson from the apron as well. Bryan stomps on Lost’s knees but his offense doesn’t laugh too long. Lost gets a two count after a snap suplex. Danielson gets a surfboard on Lost but can’t get a submission. Lost counters with a sleeper hold. Scott nails Bryan with a spinning heel kick for a two count. Lost sends Danielson into the crowd and wipes out a fan! Lost leaps over a few chairs to spear Danielson in the crowd! Bryan gets a second wind after a few right hands. Danielson hits a running clothesline after coming off the ropes. Danielson delivers a knee lift and a stiff kick to the back. Danielson hits a springboard knee shot and follows up with a suicide dive onto Lost in the crowd! Bryan tosses Lost into a bunch of chairs. Danielson hits a back breaker across the chair. Bryan comes off the apron to hit a knee drop on Lost too! Bryan hits a missile dropkick back in the ring but Lost lands on his feet on a German suplex attempt. Danielson with a butterfly suplex and has Cattle Mutilation locked in! Lost rolls over and blocks an elbow shot with a kick. Lost drops Danielson with a spinning kick and gets a two count. Scott hits a top rope elbow drop for a two count! Scott nails Bryan with a series of elbow shots and a kick to the midsection. Bryan rolls Lost up for a two count. Danielson shoves Scott off the top but gets crotched on the top rope. Lost hits a superplex and has the Sharpshooter locked in! Danielson reaches the bottom rope. Lost hits a gut buster but Bryan gets a standing ankle lock on Scott. Danielson connects with a German suplex. Danielson blocks a superman spear with a knee and a front face kick. Danielson hits a Tiger suplex and nails Lost with a bunch of elbows. Bryan gets the Cattle Mutilation locked in and Lost gives up. (***1/2. A really good match between these two. I enjoyed the brawling on the floor and they didn’t mess anything up in-ring wise. Lost is an underrated performer as he had some nice offense moves. Nicely done match.)

Fifth Contest: El Generico vs. Chuck Taylor: Chuck shoulder blocks Generico and is met with a few arm drags. It’s a slow start to the mat since Taylor was stalling for a few moments. Generico backdrops Chuck for a two count. Generico gets a near fall after a spinning heel kick. Generico hits a big splash after a slam but Taylor kicked out at two. Generico dropkicks Taylor on the back of the head and Chuck is sent to the floor. Taylor hides behind a fan as Generico was going to dive over the top rope. Taylor runs away on the floor and hides behind a little child! Generico checks on the child and Chuck cheap shots Generico! Taylor is focusing his attack on Generico’s lower back. Taylor slams Generico off the top rope and gets a head scissors locked in. They trade right hands with Generico getting the better of it. Taylor drags Generico to the floor to drive him back first into the apron. Generico takes Chuck out with a somersault dive over the top on the floor! Generico holds Taylor and lets the fan chop him! Generico nearly wins with a top rope cross body! Generico gets a two count after a sit down scoop slam! Taylor nails Generico with a yakuza kick. Chuck hits a powerbomb for a near fall. Taylor nails Generico with a running kick but Generico connects with a exploder suplex. Generico misses a knee strike in the corner and lands on the apron. They are fighting on the apron trading blows. Taylor superkicks Generico on the apron and hits a twisting elbow strike. Generico kicks Chuck in midair as Chuck leaps over the ropes. Generico gets the win after hitting a brainbuster on the apron! (***1/4. A fine match here between these two men. Taylor is a funny, but effective heel. Getting two kids involved in the match was nice touch. Again, no complaints from me here.)

Main Event: PWG World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks vs. Davey Richards & Roderick Strong: Nick and Strong start off the main event. They start of with some mat wrestling with Roderick getting the better of offense. Richards tags in and Nick backs away. Nick works on Davey’s arm but that ends when Richards delivers a kick. Matt tags in and the champs double team Richards with an atomic drop/dropkick combo. The challengers bail to the floor to regroup. Double hip toss and dropkick on Richards for a near fall. Davey hits Nick with a spinning heel kick and tags in Strong. Strong hits a snap suplex on Nick and chops him in the corner before tagging in Richards. Nick is met with a double shoulder block. Strong is trapped in the corner and worked on by the champs. A gut buster/swinging neckbreaker by the Bucks on Strong for a two count. Strong tosses Matt into a corner and Richards kicks Matt after a tag. Davey hits a back suplex and locks in a half Boston Crab on Matt. Strong works over Matt on the floor while the referee is distracted. Davey gets a two count on a cover. Roderick dropkicks Matt for a two count. Roderick drops Matt with a heel kick for a near fall. Richards has a head scissors on Matt for a few moments. Davey kicks Matt while he is on the top rope. Davey attempts a superplex but Matt punches Richards off the middle rope. Matt hits a top rope leg drop! Nick and Strong get the hot tags with Nick delivering clotheslines and a back elbow. Nick cleans house and takes the challengers out with a twisting dive over the top rope! Nick plants Roderick with an ace crusher for a near fall. A spear/big splash combo on Strong for a two count. Richards hits a missile dropkick on Nick and delivers a series of kicks. Davey nails Nick with a hand spring kick for a two count. Matt and Davey trade kicks until Nick kicks Davey. Matt plants Strong with a flipping neckbreaker. Nick kicks Davey and the champs put him on the top rope. Nick hits a hurricanrana off the top but Strong enters to nail Matt with a back breaker. Strong lifts Nick up for Davey to kick him in the chest. Nick is double teamed as Davey kicks him in the chest for a near fall. Strong with a gut buster and Richards hits a German suplex. Nick kicks out at two as the challengers are double teaming him. The Bucks are put in a cloverleaf and Boston Crab at the same time. Nick nearly rolls Richards up for a near win. Davey goes back to a cloverleaf but Matt breaks the hold up. Davey and Strong are met with superkicks. Matt with a rolling slam but Richards gets his knees up to block a 450 splash. Nick is able to surprise Richards with a roll up for the win. Davey chases after the referee, which jumps over some fans to get away! (****. A great match between these four men. I’m sure I missed something during this review of the match, but damn they out forth a great match. A job well done here by these guys. The Young Bucks are a great team. TNA never should have let them go.)

Backstage El Generico was getting a back massage from Excalibur until Chuck Taylor paid him off and tossed a bag on Generico’s back. Taylor tells him that it’s not over.

The 411: Sure the show only had six matches and didn't feature a bunch of top names at the time, but it was a good show with none of the matches being below average. A well rounded row with a great main event. You can't go wrong with that.
