Scott Phoenix wins the 2013 TCW Rumble Riot!
First thing I would say is that this Rumble Riot was not as good as the first one, which I felt was a bit more fun. It seems a lot of this match was to hype up the rivalry between Walker and Sigmon, also to setup a rivalry with Alan Steel and the Bradford Family. There was not any problems with the match itself, but there were no standout moments. I do like the way that Phoenix won though.
Lance Hoyt runs in and attacks Scott Phoenix! Hoyt picks him up and lands a choke slam. Announcement is made that this is Phoenix TCW Heavyweight Championship match!
TCW Heavyweight Championship Match - Lance Hoyt (c) vs. Scott Phoenix
Hoyt leaves, saying Phoenix will not be getting back up. Phoenix fights back up, taunting Hoyt to come back to the ring and tell him to get his ass back in the ring. Phoenix demands to have his title shot right now! Hoyt wraps his hand around Phoenix's throat again, but Phoenix fights back with strikes. Hoyt avoids and strike and nails a hard full nelson slam! Hoyt forgoes going for the pin and continues to attack Phoenix. Hoyt taunts Phoenix before putting him in the corner, chopping him in the chest. Hoyt sends him into the opposite corner and Phoenix collapses. Phoenix fights back up and punches Hoyt in the face, but he shrugs it off and hip tosses Phoenix. Hoyt picks up Phoenix, but he slips out and goes for a roll up! 1...2...Hoyt kicks out! Hoyt mows Phoenix down with a clothesline before dropping a leg on him. Hoyt goes for a lazy cover, and does not get the win. Phoenix fights back with strikes again, seeming to get a second wind. Hoyt is too strong as he grabs Phoenix throat again. Hoyt lifts Phoenix and throws him across the ring! Hoyt lifts Phoenix into the corner, but he fights back and lands a flying head scissors on Hoyt. Phoenix tries to go for a leg lariat, but Hoyt counters into a slam! Hoyt goes for a cover! 1...2...Phoenix fights out! Tim Storm comes out to cheer Phoenix on. Hoyt lifts Phoenix up and nails a standing inconoclasm! Storm on the apron, distracting Hoyt. Phoenix uses the ropes to help him up, and he gets the boots up on a charging Hoyt. Phoenix springboards of the ropes with a kick and nails Hoyt right in the face! Phoenix with the cover! 1...2...3!
The winner, and NEW TCW Heavyweight Champion, Scott Phoenix!
A little short for a championship match, but understandable with Phoenix being in the Rumble Riot. That being said, this was a very good match. Hoyt did a great job of delivering some brutal offense to Phoenix, who fought back as hard as he could. Phoenix's title win feels very genuine, something that I feel is lost in pro wrestling from time to time. One thing that help the match is that there was no commercial break, so your attention is kept on the match at all times.
The TCW locker rooms empties out to congratulate Scott Phoenix. Hoyt is up, and he looks angry. We end this weeks TCW with highlights of Phoenix in the Rumble Riot and his championship victory.
The 411: Although the Rumble Riot itself was a bit lacking, the follow up TCW Heavyweight Championship match was very good, and made the show worth watching. The main problem is that a huge chunk of the show is the Rumble Riot, where none of the wrestlers stood out. That being said, the action in the Rumble Riot was easy to follow and there were no bad moments.
