Colling It In The Ring: WWE Global Warning Tour 2002
Posted by Bob Colling on 12.20.2013

World Wrestling Entertainment presents Global Warning Tour
Date:
8/10/2002
From: Melbourne, Australia

There were three matches not released on the DVD version that I have. Those matches were the following:
D-Von and Batista defeating Mark Henry and Randy Orton
Billy & Chuck defeating Hardcore Holly & Chavo Guerrero
Kurt Angle defeating Test

All things considered, I'm not too upset not seeing those matches.

Smackdown General Manager Stephanie McMahon makes her down to the ring to start the event. She puts over the WWE in Austrailia rather quickly before the start of the first match. She dances with Rikishi on the aisle way for a few moments.

Opening Contest: Rico vs. Rikishi in a Kiss My Ass Match: Rico hits a superkick early on after a failed attack before the bell and keeps the offense going with kicks in th ecorner. Rikishi stops Rico with a belly to belly suplex. Rikishi attempts a sit down splash but Rico bails out of the way and low blows Rikishi due to the referee being distracted. Rico mule kicks the big man and taunts the fans. Rikishi avoids a top rope moonsault and hits a Samoan Drop to win the match. (*1/4. A quick opener between these two guys. A decent match. Not much to it.) After the match, Rikishi superkicks Rico and hits a back splash in the corner. Rikishi follows that up with the stink face! He also brings in a child who has green hair. He actually brings in a second child and they proceed to dance.

Second Contest: WWE Cruiserweight Champion Jamie Noble vs. Hurricane Helms: Helms tosses Noble into the ring from the apron and hammers away on the champ early on. Helms steps on Jamie's groin while the champ was in a tree of woe. Noble elbows out of a chokeslam but walks into a superkick. Noble bailed to the floor and Helms hits a cross body to the floor! Nidia makes out with Hurricane to distract him and causes him to chase after her until the champ clotheslines Helms in the ring. Noble gets a near fall after a snap suplex. Jamie rams Helms back first into the corner and works over the challenger's back. Noble hit a back suplex and makes out with Nidia. Helms hits a leaping cross body for a two count. Noble drives Helms down to the canvas with an electric chair slam. Noble distracts the referee so Nidia can choke Helms over the ropes. Helms hits a head scissors and both men are down. Helms drops Noble with a leaping clothesline and hits a running reverse neckbreaker for a two count! Helms with the Blockbuster off the middle rope but Noble kicks out at two again. Noble hits a nice exploder suplex but Helms kicks out. Helms with the Eye of the Hurricane but Noble pops his shoulder up at two! Helms goes for the Verterbreaker but Noble gets out to hit a northern lights suplex for a two count. Noble charges at Helms but hits the ring post. They are on the top rope where Helms hits a top rope swinging neckbreaker! Holy shit. Helms rolls over and covers but Jamie kicks out before three. Nidia distracts Hurricane and that allows Noble to backslide Helms and use the ropes for leverage to get the win! (***. A good match between these two guys. Noble was a great wrestler and his title reign during this time produced plenty of good matches. The top rope spot was nuts.) After the match, Hurricane drops Noble with a choke slam after sending Nidia into Noble!

Third Contest: WWE Tag Team Champions Lance Storm & Christian vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. & Billy Kidman: Storm and Kidman kick off the contest. Kidman with a snapmare but Storm stops him with a knee lift. Kidman head scissors and dropkicks Storm for a near fall. Kidman with a double clothesline and Rey hits a top rope hurricanrana on Christian! Rey continues with a wheelbarrow bulldog on Christian for a near fall! Christian works over Rey in the corner but Rey hits both champions before going for a moonsault but is shoved off by Christian and crashes to the floor! Christian works over Rey in the corner along with Storm. Storm hits a rolling fireman carry on Rey for a two count. The champs dangerously drop Rey across the top rope to maintain control of the bout. Christian continues his offense with a gut buster. Rey hits a springboard dropkick on Christian and tries to tag in Kidman. Christian prevents the tag and is kicked by Rey. Storm enters and knocks Kidman off the apron. Storm drops Rey gut first down to the canvas for a near fall. Rey lands on his feet after a German suplex attempt and drops Storm with a spinning heel kick. Rey looks to crawl over to Kidman for a tag and makes the tag! Kidman knocks Christian off the apron and hits a clothesline and backdrop on Storm. Kidman with a springboard bulldog on Storm and kicks Christian off the apron for a near fall. Kidman with a sit out powerbomb on Lance! Christian had a belt with him but is clotheslined by Kidman. Storm nearly wins with a superkick on Kidman. The belt is still in the ring. Kidman crotches Storm on the top and Rey hits a 619 on Christian! Kidman lifts Reys onto Storm to hit a top rope hurricanrana! Kidman heads to the top rope for the Shooting Star Press and hits it! Kidman covers but Christian pulls the referee out. Kidman baseball slides Christia. Rey takes Christian out with a springboard moonsault. Storm nails Kidman with the title belt to win the match. (***1/4. A solid tag team match between these two tag teams. I was thinking how perhaps the WWE should have had Kidman/Rey tag throughout the year and keep Edge in the main event scene on Smackdown. Kidman was always a fine talent and provided some exciting moments throughout this match. Good job, guys.)

Fourth Contest: Edge vs. Chris Jericho: Jericho calls Edge a SOB and that causes Edge to hammer away on Jericho until he bails to the floor. Edge follows him and drops Jericho with a flapjack back in the ring. Jericho hammers away on Edge and chokes Edge against the ropes. Jericho gets tangled up in the ropes and Edge spears Jericho! Edge follows that up with a spinning heel kick for a two count. Jericho avoids a clothesline and hugs the referee. Jericho clotheslines Edge and stomps away on him. Jericho chokes Edge over the middle rope and leaps onto Edge's back. Jericho drives his elbow into Edge's throat a couple of times. Jericho drives Edge down to the canvas with a back suplex. Jericho drops a series of elbows for a two count. Edge fights out of surfboard and nearly wins with a roll up but Jericho stops Edge with a clothesline. Jericho drives Edge down to the canvas with a delayed vertical suplex for a two count. Jericho tried to take off the top turnbuckle pad and is nearly pinned by Edge. Jericho locks in an abdominal stretch and uses the ropes for extra leverage. Edge hip tosses his way out of it and Jericho drops Edge with a forearm shot. Jericho misses Edge and hits the middle rope groin first! Edge runs Jericho over with a few clotheslines and a leaping forearm shot! Edge drives Jericho face first into the canvas. Edge drops Jericho face first across the top turnbuckle. Edge heads to the top rope but Jericho crotches Edge and chops away on him. Jericho attempts a superplex but Edge hits a middle rope Edgecution for a near win! Edge accidentally knocks the referee out with a leaping forearm smash. Jericho drives Edge down with a sleeper hold slam. Jericho goes to the floor and grabs a steel chair. Jericho tries to hit Edge but is met with a spear! Edge has the cover but the referee is out! Edge misses a second spear and Jericho hits a bulldog. Jericho attempts the Lionsault but Edge moves and hits a spear! The referee recovers and Jericho still kicks out at two! Jericho has the chair and rams the chair into Edge's throat. Jericho hits the Lionsault and Edge kicks out at two. Jericho is pissed and goes back to work on Edge. Edge slingshots Jericho into the exposed turnbuckle but can't pin Jericho! Edge goes for the Edgecution but Jericho tries for the Walls of Jericho, but Edge gets the pin with an inside cradle. (**1/2. I really like both men, but this match didn't overly entertain me all that much. There was a few good spots, but the match kind of killed me with some of the near falls. Taz on commentary really hurt the suspense of the nearfalls, as well.) After the match, Jericho throws a temper tantrum just like he would do in WCW in late '97 and early '98.

Fifth Contest: Stacy Keibler vs. Torrie Wilson in a Bra & Panties Match: Val Venis is the special referee for the contest. Remember when he was an RTC guy damned this type of behavior? I stand corrected, Venis is not the referee but rather just cuts a promo for the match. Well, both women have their bottoms off and they roll around and eventually roll over the referee, just like every time. The referee is really happy about it. He clearly loosens his pants and Torrie pulls his pants down. He was wearing pink underwear. Nidia runs out and attacks Torrie. Torrie with a double clothesline and a neckbreaker on Nidia. Torrie rips off Nidia's shorts. Torrie rolls Stacy over and pulls her shorts off. Val was the ring announcer for the match. No rating because it was just used for eye candy.

Main Event: WWE Undisputed Champion The Rock vs. Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar: Rock hammers away on Brock and HHH gets a few shots in on Lesnar as well. Rock and HHH clothesline Brock to the floor showing teamwork but HHH drops Rock with a clothesline moments later. HHH works over Rock in the corner with right hands. Rock comes out of the corner with a clothesline and brings Lesnar into the ring from the apron. Rock hammers away on both chalengers until Lesnar stops Rock with a clothesline. Brock drives his shoulder into Rock in the corner and HHH hammers away on Rock. Rock fights back on HHH until HHH delivers a face buster and Brock hits a clothesline for a two count. Brock didn't make the save and just stood there smiling. Rock hits a double clothesline as he tries to fight back. Brock decks HHH with a clothesline. Lesnar clotheslines Rock and taunts the champion. Rock backdrops Brock to the floor. Paul Heyman gets a cheap shot on Rock and runs away. Rock runs after Heyman until HHH nails Rock with a clothesline and drops the champion throat first across the guard railing. HHH drops Brock throat first across the top rope back in the ring. HHH pummels Lesnar in the corner. Lesnar drives his shoulder into HHH's midsection in the corner. HHH drops Brock with a high knee lift and Rock is back in to hammer away on Lesnar. HHH hits a neckbreaker on Rock for a near fall. HHH plants Brock with a spinebuster for a two count. Rock hits a swinging neckbreaker on HHH. Brock goes for the F5 but HHH stops that. Brock backdrops HHH to counter a pedigree. Brock clotheslines HHH to the floor. Brock hits an overhead belly to belly suplex on Rock. Brock drives HHH head first into the ring post from the apron. Brock has the champ all by himself. Lesnar locks in a bearhug on Rock. HHH is still on the floor after the ring post shot and is busted open. Rock refuses to stay down and fights out of the hold. Lesnar catches Rock and goes for the F5 but Rock lands on his feet. Rock hits a big clothesline on Lesnar and plants Brock with a DDT! Rock locks in the sharpshooter! Lesnar is in the middle of the ring! HHH slides back into the ring and clotheslines Rock from behind. HHH goes for the pedigree and hits it on Rock! HHH goes for the cover but Brock makes the save at two! Brock hits the F5 on HHH! Brock covers but Rock makes the save. Rock plants Brock with a spinebuster and hits the People's Elbow! Rock goes for the cover but Brock kicks out at two! Rock punches Heyman off the apron and that allows Lesnar to hit the F5! HHH breaks up the count at two! HHH hits the pedigree on Lesnar for a near fall! Rock hits the Rock Bottom and pins HHH to win the match! (**3/4. A fine main event to close the show, but it isn't anything all that memorable. It was obvious that HHH was going to eat the pin considering Lesnar is being built up like a beast. It's a huge main event on paper and I had high expectations, the match didn't reach those expectations, though.)

The 411: It's not a bad way to spend just under two hours of your day to watch this release. For the most part, everything on the DVD was entertaining. The tag title match really sticks out along with a solid Cruiserweight title match. This gets a thumbs up from me.
