411 Video Review: WCW: Greatest TV October 2000

I thought I’d like to do something different to send in as an audition piece for 411wrestling.com, so here we go as WCW was heating up as youngsters like the Natural Born Thrillers, Elix Skipper, Booker T and the Filthy Animals were tearing up the scene in WCW.

Thunder(9-29-00)
From Wilkes Barre

(Highlights of Nitro in the Nassau Coliseum main evented by Vince Russo Vs Booker T sigh)

Disco Inferno comes out with Disco Duck, his pet stuffed duck don’t ask. He makes fun of Konnan, Disco talks about his new partner. Disco Inferno fires all of the Filthy Animals, why? Konnan comes out and we have our opener.

Konnan Vs Disco Inferno

Konnan socks Disco, he kicks Disco in the nuts and gives him an X-Factor. Disco runs away, Stevie Rat yells at him. Back in the ring Konnan beats up Disco some more but Alex Wright runs in and guillotines Konnan allowing Disco to pin him. Wasn’t really a match I’ll give it a DUD since it was basically a 30 second impromtu brawl with a pin.

Mike Sanders takes over Vince Russo’s office, Doug Dillinger tries to kick him out but he has a note.

Jeff Jarrett is walking through some corridors

The Natural Born Thrillers watch Jindrak and O’Haire winning the tag team title. Sanders sets up a tournament for the Hardcore belt. Sanders puts Reno and Johnny the Bull in the tournament.

Scott Steiner chases a security guard and smashes the Disco Duck as the announcers celebrate at the fate of the Disco Duck.

Hugh Morrus and The Wall wonder where the rest of the MIA is, Morrus wonders how did The Wall get there, The Wall says he traveled with David Penzer. Those last two segments were useless

Jeff Jarrett walks out and talks trash about Sting. He calls Sting a has been but Lex Luger walks out of the crowd to stop Jarrett from trash talking Sting. Luger had just turned heel on Nitro by helping Vince Russo win the belt. All of a sudden Luger turns face by trash talking Russo and Jarrett. He calls helping Russo the biggest mistake of his life, well besides stepping in the cage with Brody. Hugh Morrus defends Luger he says he forgives Luger, but he just turned heel two days ago and then for no reason turned face. Lance Storm attacks Hugh Morrus as Jarrett and Storm beat down on Luger and Morrus.

The Natural Born Thrillers talk about Johnny the Bull’s loss(To who?) and Kevin Nash’s return.

Stevie Ray is with a paramedic and challenges Scott Steiner.

The Lava Lamp Lounge: With that 70’s guy Mike Awesome. Tonight’s guest Midajah. Mike Awesome flirts with Midajah… a lot. Mike Awesome tries to get close to Midajah but Midajah acts scarred. Mike Awesome talks about erections…ewww. Leia Meow and Midajah get in a cat fight, Mike Awesome rescues his lava lamp. They both knock over Awesome’s lava lamp, Awesome is pissed and yells at the ladies, the ladies punch him in the balls and throw him threw the set. From ECW champion to this?

Mike Awesome reassures Crowbar, they have a one on one talk.

Vince Russo shoots with Mike Tenay, Vince Russo relinquishes the belt cause he’s not an athelete or a sports entertainer. Wow this is riveting, Vince Russo says he’s not getting knocked around. He has an announcement for Monday night. Russo talks about Ric Flair who made his return on Monday. He talks about a family secret, which was probably supposed to be the announcement of him being the father of Stacy’s baby.

Main event: Lance Storm and Jeff Jarrett Vs Hugh Morrus and Lex Luger
Hugh and Storm start off, Storm dominates as Luger and Jarrett fight outside. Luger and Jarrett fight in the ring, Luger gives him the fore arms. He tries to give him the Torture rack but Storm breaks it up. Konnan(Who’s guest announcing) calls Lance Storm, Lash LeRoux. Luger gets a hot tag to Morrus, if he was in there for 90 seconds then is it really a hot tag. He calls Jeff Jarrett, Stan Stasiak’s older brother. Double clothesline as both men try to get the tag. Morrus knocks Jarrett out of the ring, he goes for the No Laughing Matter, Luger moves him out of the way. Storm makes Morrus submit with the Canadian Maple Leaf. Ѕ*,slow plodding match even at three or four minutes and don’t you think three turns in two days is a little much?

Nitro (10-2-00)
From San Francisco, California

The Filthy Animals(Konnan and Rey Misterio) Vs The Boogie Knights(Ladder match)
First one to get the Disco Duck wins, oh lord. Boogie Knights whack the Animals with the ladder, Wright with a missle dropkick to Konnan. Boogie Knights double team Konnan. Misterio hits Disco with a Thesz press with a ladder in between, wow! Konnan with a clothesline. X-pac…er… Misterio with a bronco buster to Wright. Legdrop from Rey involving a chair and Alex Wright in between the ladder. Rey with a leg drop from the ladder onto Boogie Knights. Disco hits Konnan with a Chartbuster. He attempts to climb the ladder but Misterio catches up with him and gives him a sunset flip off the ladder. Misterio tries to go up the ladder but Alex Wright knocks him off and tries to climb up himself. Konnan knocks Wright off and Wright gets a hurracarana from the ring to the floor. Konnan climbs the ladder and gets the duck. Boogie Knights attack Filthy Animals after the match. **1/2, good for what it was a five minute spot fest if it was any longer it’d be a lot more boring

The announcers blab and blab about Russo and Goldberg.

Vince Russo is backstage with a pudgy Jeremy Borash. Russo talks about the title match between Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner. Russo calls Goldberg a coward, Goldberg comes down to ringside. Goldberg talks about seeing Russo in the toilet, well. Russo yells at Goldberg and tells him he’s going to ringside to talk to Goldberg. HEY IT’S THE ROAD WARRIORS, oh wait it’s Russo. Russo comes out in the Pope Mobile being driven by Jeremy Borash. Goldberg runs up to the car and beats up security. Goldberg: (In Goldust voice) Your ass is mine. Russo tells Goldberg to relive the streak or be fired. Goldberg superkicks the Pope Mobile window and Borash flees. As Goldberg goes after Russo, Meng attacks Goldberg and gives him a Tonga Death grip. This was basically Russo’s last appearance.

The Wall Vs Reno (WCW Hardcore title match)
Chuck Zito of Oz, is out doing commentary. Basically this is a lot of garbage can shots. Reno whacks Wall with a kendo stick, Reno yells at Chuck Zito but Wall breaks it up. Reno hits Wall with a kendo stick some more. Big Vito whacks Reno with a stickball bat and Wall choke slams Reno through a table for the win but Sanders reverses the decision. ј*, basically a bunch of weapon shots.

Pamala Paulshock says the Cat says the number one contenders for the belt are Sting and Booker T. OH THE HUMANITY!

David Flair yells at the masked man who’s built like the guy that used to be in the American Males. Scotty Riggs was the father of Stacy’s baby?

Shane Douglas(With Torrie Wilson) Vs Mike Awesome

Douglas cuts a boring promo on Konnan and then Torrie cuts an awful heel promo on Tygress. Douglas attacks Awesome before the bell. Awesome fights back and the two go outside the ring Awesome throws Douglas into the guard rail. Lex Luger’s in the audience, probably gonna do another turn. Awesome takes out a table, Torrie flashes Awesome and Douglas “Franchises” Awesome and gets the pin. After the match Tygress attacks Torrie but Douglas grabs Tygress and Konnan makes the save. Ѕ*, what was an ECW fan boy’s dream match turned into a meaningless match on a Nitro.

Meng’s already standing in the ring. Goldberg and Meng with some weak brawling, Meng gets speared by Goldberg and Goldberg finishes Meng with a Jackhammer. DUD, poor poor Meng. After the match Kronic beats up Goldberg

Sanders sets up a nightmare partner match Booker T and Jeff Jarrett Vs Scott Steiner and Sting. Where the winners get to face each other in the title match

Jeff Jarrett and Booker T Vs Sting and Scott Steiner
Sting and Jarrett start, Sting shoulderblocks Jarrett. Sting with a Irish whip then a Stinger Splash. Clothesline to Jarrett. Tags to Steiner and Booker T, Steiner stalls for a while. Steiner is wearing a weird mask cause Goldberg whacked him with a pipe, Steiner punches Booker T. Booker T with an ax kick, Steiner stalls some more and tags Sting. Booker shoulderblocks Sting then Sting hip tosses Booker. Steiner hawks a loogey at Booker. Booker elbows Sting then gives him a lariat. Sting punches Scott Steiner, Jarrett attacks Steiner. Steiner gorilla press slams Jarrett. Booker comes back in, Steiner give him a back breaker. Steiner controls Booker T some more, Steiner with a T-Bone suplex. Booker comes back with an elbow. Jeff Jarrett tags in and slugs Steiner. Steiner hits Jarrett with a belly to belly. Steiner goes for a full nelson suplex but Jarrett kicks him in the nuts. Booker’s in the ring with Steiner, Booker hits Steiner with a Harlem Hangover but hits the ref. Jarrett hits Sting with the guitair and Jarrett pins Sting. *1/2, not bad but Steiner stalled way too much but still not bad.

Nash and the Natural Born Thrillers are walking towards ringside.

Elix Skipper Vs Kevin Nash and Mike Sanders(with Natural Born Thrillers) (WCW cruiserweight title match)
If Sanders and Nash win, the cruiserweight title goes to Sanders. Also Skipper has to power bomb both guys(I think) to win Skipper cuts a promo on Nash for saying “Hi Elix” to Howard Stern regular Beetlejuice. Nash wears an Outsiders shirt, get over it Kev. Nash gives Skipper a super weak mic shot. Sanders and Skipper start reverses a power bomb. Nash whacks Skipper, Sanders tags Nash. Nash goes on a rant against cruiserweights and then Skipper hits him with a missle drop kick . Skipper attacks Nash but Sanders knocks him off the turn buckle. Skipper tries to fight back but is out numbered. Luger’s in the crowd and does a face turn by attacking an evil pop corn vendor. Nash goes on a rant against Canadians, Nash power bombs Skipper and Sanders pins Skipper. *1/2 , pretty decent comedy match and Nash surprsingly sold some for Skipper.

Terry Taylor informs Goldberg he has another match.

Backstage Team Canada attacks the Natural Born Thrillers, Jimmy Hart, Disco Inferno and a bunch of refs break it up.

Goldberg Vs The Harris Boys
The Harris Boys attack Goldberg but Goldberg double clotheslines the Harrises. Spears Ron and pins him then Jackhammers Don and pins him. DUD, typical Goldberg.

Natural Born Thrillers ask Nash what the gimmick for the main event should be.

David Flair harrasses Scotty Riggs.

David Flair brings out Scotty Riggs, David Flair yells at him. David Flair repeats “You ruined my life” about 20 times, he slaps Scotty Riggs some more. David Flair takes the handcuffs off Scotty Riggs, Scotty unmasks and it’s Buff Bagwell, who cares? Buff Bagwell kicks David Flair in the nuts and gives him the Buff Blockbuster.

Booker T Vs Jeff Jarrett(San Francisco 49ers match for the vacant WCW world title)

The point of this match is to grab the WCW title which is in one of four boxes, the other three boxes hold weapons and other dreaded stuff. Clip of Jarrett hitting Beetlejuice with a guitar for calling him Slapnuts. Booker T gives his shirt to and old lady and gives her a hug, Jarrett attacks Booker while he’s hugging the old lady. Jarrett whacks Booker with a chair, Jarrett whips Booker into the rope as a box falls down. Jartett grabs the box and inside is a blow up doll, lordy bagordy. Booker attacks Jarrett and hits him with a back elbow. Booker grabs a box and inside is a framed picture of Scott Hall, Booker whacks Jarrett with it. Booker tries to grab another box but Jarrett stops him. Jarrett whacks Booker with a box and Jarrett throws Booker on the commentators table. Booker piledrives Jarrett onto a monitor on the announcing table and the table doesn’t break, ouch! Jarrett takes a water break, as Booker grabs another box. Inside the box is the Coal Miners glove from Halloween Havoc 1992, uggh. Jarrett introduces Booker T’s crotch to the ringpost. Jarrett steals the coal miners glove and whacks Booker with it. Jarrett hits Booker with another box. Booker misses a dropkick, Jarrett hits Booker again with the coal miners glove. Jarrett with a sleeper hold but Booker escapes. Jarrett with a back body drop and then a double knock out spot. Booker hits Jarrett with the Book End and goes for the belt but Jarrett stops him. Booker with an the Harlem Hangover and a spinnaronie. Booker goes for another Harlem Hangover but Jarrett escapes. Jarrett lifts Booker on his shoulders and drops him. Jeff Jarrett goes for the belt but Beetlejuice stops him by punching and grabbing Jarrett’s testicles. Booker gets the box but the belt falls out and David Penzer hands it to him. Scott Steiner attacks Booker and gives Beetlejuice the Steiner recliner as we fade to back. **3/4, silly brawling for the first half, but the second half of the match was a good Jarrett-Booker match and it had a hot crowd to boot.

WCW Thunder (10-4-02)
Long Beach, California

Jeff Jarrett cuts a promo on Sting, saying Sting is a shadow of himself. Woah Mike Tenay’s a heel. Beetlejuice comes out and trash talks Jeff Jarrett, Beetlejuice challenges Jarrett and says he’s the chosen one. Beetlejuice and Jarrett have a posedown, Beetlejuice struts. Beetlejuice kicks Jarrett in the shins but Jarrett knocks him over and gives him a figure four.

Backstage Scott Steiner attacks Booker with a lead pipe

Back in the ring Sting saves Beetlejuice but Shane Douglas dressed in a Sting mask and T-shirt attacks Sting. Jarrett puts the figure four on Beetlejuice, as Beetlejuice cries for help.

Lance Storm(With Team Canada) Vs Mike Sanders(WCW cruiserweight title match)
Mike Tenay sings the last few lines of the O’Canada. Lance Storm attacks Mike Sanders before the bell. Storm chops Sanders a few times, Sanders hits Storm with a pump handle slam. Sanders kicks Storm in the chest which Tony calls a back leg front kick. Storm with a backbreaker, vertical suplex by Storm. Sanders reverses a charge but gets kicked by Storm. Storm gets a German suplex but Reno breaks it up. Storm dropkicks Reno off the apron. Storm DDTs Sanders on the apron, the Thrillers and Team Canada slug it out as Storm gives Sanders the Canadian Maple leaf. Major Gunns rings the bell but Sanders never submitted, Hugh Morrus beats up Storm and throws him back in the ring, Sanders rolls up Storm for the win. *, match was an average TV match with a really confusing ending

This week on Shooting with Mike Tenay: The MIA. Hugh Morrus makes Tenay call him General Rection, OK. Morrus “shoots” while the rest of the MIA look on looking bored. The Wall looks so retarded wearing street clothes and backwards hat. Chavo talks about giving 100%, he says the ratings reflect it. Oh Yeah the MIA was the only saving point of WCW in 2000 rating wise. Lash LeRoux looks and sounds stoned and basically mumbles a lot. Hugh Morrus talks about potential and how he’s so happy. They talk about Lex Luger and Jim Duggan turning on him, he calls Luger a lazy bum it’s funny cause he is. Hugh Morrus talks about the feud with Lance Storm and says the feud may end sooner then Halloween Havoc. At the end of the interview Morrus is all teary eyed for some reason.

Buff Bagwell comes out, lord after that shoot I don’t think I can stand a Buff Bagwell interview or match. Buff Bagwell isn’t the father of Stacy’s baby, since he practices safe sex. David Flair comes out with a “doctor”, David Flair apologizes. David Flair says he believed he’s the father of Stacy’s baby given the tape Smooth(Ice Train as a sneaky limo driver) gave him from the Kid-Cam(Kidman’s hidden video camera). The Doctor makes Bagwell take a blood test, Bagwell says he’s scared of needles and whacks the Doctor with a mic and lays out David Flair.

Shane Douglas(With Torrie Wilson) Vs Sting
Shane Douglas cuts another boring promo on Sting, he says Sting isn’t the legend he used to be. Torrie asks the people if they ever take a shower and proceeds to cut a terrible heel promo. Sting attacks Douglas before the bell and whacks him into the guardrail. Sting throws Douglas into the guardrails. Sting and Douglas brawl in the crowd for a while, Sting whacks Douglas with a chair. Douglas suplexes Sting and controls with some boring offense. Douglas sets up a table, but Sting throws him into the tables. Sting kicks Douglas like a dog and hits him with a Stinger splash, he goes for another one but Douglas hits him with a chain Torrie handed to him. Konnan carries Torrie away, Jarrett hits Sting with a guitair, Douglas hits him with a Franchiser and pins Sting for the three. *, solid but dull match.

Elix Skipper Vs Rey Misterio(With Tygress)
Skipper’s music rules. All wanna know who built this house? Primetime did, primetime did…anyway. Just realized Mysterio and Skipper’s music sound a crap load a like. Tony, Mark and Stevie talk about Tygress a lot.Tygress walks over to the commentator table to do guest commentary. Skipper with a round house kick. Misterio gets powerbomed Skipper out of the ring. Misterio with a guillitone leg drop. Split leg moonsault by Misterio gets a two. Skipper crotches Misterio on the rope, Vader bomb into a leg drop by Skipper gets a two. Headscissors take over by Misterio, dropkick by Misterio. St. Stevie makes some sexist statements. Awesome sommersault plancha by Rey onto Skipper who’s outside of the ring. Rey hits the bronco buster, Tygress yipes like a poodle. Torrie Wilson attacks Tygress. Rey Rey gets distracted allowing Skipper to get the Play of The Day for the three count. ***1/4, I hate calling cruiserweight matches cause there so damn hard to do PBP. Anyway this match reminded me of the old WCW cruiserweight matches of 96-97 two guys go out there for 10 minutes and give it there all.

Sting…err Jeff Jarrett dressed as old school Sting is in a pretty funny spoof of Sting’s master card commercial.

Mark Madden is in the ring, Stacy Keibler comes out to “shoot” about who’s the daddy of her baby. Damn it three quasi shoots already and this is only part one of two! Madden flirts with Stacy. Madden looks retarded in his out back out fit, like a 300 pound Crocodile Dundee if he had Down’s syndrome. Oh Stacy’s worried about Stacy attacking Buff, Stacy said she made a mistake for cheating on David Flair. Madden calls Stacy a slut and thinks she slept with so many men she doesn’t remember who’s the daddy. David Flair walks out and David ignores Stacy. David mocks Buff Bagwell’s dance, heh. Flair wants Stacy to take a blood test. Crowbar tries to get David to restrain himself, Crowbar’s wearing his 70’s get up since Mike Awesome befriended him. Flair attacks Crowbar with no real reasoning. Mike Awesome runs out and destroys David Flair just like the old ECW and the scene ends with Mike Awesome’s rip off of Barry White’s Can’t get enough of your love theme.

Pamala Paulshock interviews Jeff Jarrett still dressed as Old school Sting.Jarrett says he’s going to sign autographs for the kiddies for $15 a pop, well it’s less then Bret Hart’s price.

Halloween Havoc promo, you will see something that you never imagined on October 29th.

Tygress Vs Torrie Wilson (Down Underwear match)
This is a bra and panties match with the women wearing outback gear. Tygress attacks Torrie before the bell, Tygress with some hair pulls. Sadly folks that’s all we’ll see. Nope crappy Vader bomb by Tygress is missed. Torrrie rips off Tygress’s jacket. Shitty X-Factor by Tygress. Tygress rips off Torrie’s shorts, bronco buster by Tygress. Torrie slaps Tygress, Tygress fights back and rips of Torrie’s jacket. Stevie: Did she win? Shane Douglas is about to give Tygress a Franchiser but Konnan makes the save. Konnan does a terrible Shane Douglas impression. DUD, mostly hair pulls and crappy moves.

Big Vito pisses off Commissioner Mike Sanders so Mike Sanders sets up a match between Vito and Goldberg.

Jeff Jarrett comes out to sign autographs. Jeff Jarrett harasses David Penzer, making Penzer call him The Man called Sting. Jarrett says Sting lost his heart, wow a shoot angle that’s not meant to be a shoot angle. Jarrett says Sting should retire after he beats him at Halloween Havoc. Sting comes down from the ceiling and Jarrett mocks him by doing some of Sting’s old mannerisms. Sting beats him up for it, Sting whacks Jarrett with Stevie Ray’s hat. Jarrett attacks Sting and gives him a Stinger splash. The announcers talk about N.W.O Sting. Jarrett suplexes Sting throuh a table but Sting no sells, Sting Stinger splashes Jarrett. Sting gives Jarrett the Scorpion Death Lock. The ref’s have to break it up. Wow that was a pretty cool angle actually.

Pamala Paulshock is with Big Vito, Big Vito says he’s going to beat Goldberg and he says he doesn’t sweat Goldberg.

Big Vito Vs Goldberg

Even when Big Vito was a face he used the damn Godfather theme, the movie not the pimp. The announcers wonder if this is the end of Goldberg’s career. Vito attacks Goldberg, he goes for the Mafia kick but Goldberg reverses it into a spear. Goldberg gives Vito the jackhammer for the pin. Johnny The Bull attacks Vito so Goldberg comes back and gives him a…pump handle slam. Spear then jackhammer for the pin. DUD, slightly better then the average Goldberg squash for the Mafia kick into a spear reversal. Stevie Richards…I mean Kronic point at Goldberg after the match.

Mike Awesome Vs David Flair(Hardcore match)
Awesome attacks Flair before the bell, Awesome with a lariat. Flair reverses an Awesome garbage can shot. Flair hits Awesome with the garbage cab Awesome with a gorilla press slam off the top. Awesome body slams Flair. David Flair does a terrible Flair flip. They take it outside, Awesome throws Flair into the guard rail. Mike Awesome does a tope over the railing, he throws Flair back over the railing. Awesome whacks Flair with a chair. The announcers make 70’s references to pass time. Flair with some chops but Awesome no sells. Awesome with a clothes line, Awesome chant by the crowd. This is an almost total squash, Madden and Tony make fun of David Crockett. Awesome hits Flair with a frog splash followed by an Awesome bomb Ѕ*, a squash sure but David Flair put Awesome over big time and bumped pretty well considering it was David Flair. Also Awesome showed a glimpse of his ECW past. Awesome is about to Awesome bomb Flair through a table ,but Ric Flair stops him. Awesome lets David Flair, for the first time in my life I have to say DAMN YOU RIC FLAIR!

Scott Steiner(With Midajah) Vs Sting (Guest referee: Jeff Jarrett)
Sting goes to attack Jarrett but Steiner attacks him. Sting fights back but Jarrett grabs his arm when he tries and slugs Steiner. Steiner gets thrown out of the ring. Sting clotheslines Jarrett. Steiner walks back in the ring but Sting clotheslines him too. Sting attacks Jarrett some more but Steiner hits him with a belly to belly suplex. Steiner hits Sting with some more power moves. Steiner puts Sting in a tree of woe and Jarrett kicks him. Steiner with a gorilla press slam for a two. Steiner knees Sting a lot . Steiner with a T-bone suplex, Steiner celebrates by doing some pushups. Sting fights back by ramming Steiner into the turnbuckles. Steiner curses at the audience which allows Sting to get some offense in. Stinger splash as Tony Schivone pisses his pants. Sting is about to throw Jarrett into the guardrail but Steiner whacks him with the styrophone lead pipe. Steiner throws Sting into the guard rail, Tony starts crying. Steiner gets a two count but the Cat runs down with Booker T who’s wearing a ref shirt. The Cat pulls Jarrett out and Booker T is now the guest ref. Steiner with a two count but Booker stops before three. Booker hits Steiner with a side kick. Sting covers for the win. *, reminds me of a main event of a Nitro in 98, cheesy and overbooked with no real meaning. But Steiner pulled out some decent suplexes and Sting got the crowd into it so that’s why I gave it a full star.

Overall review of the tape so far:
Well so far this tape has been amazingly average. The Natural Born Thrillers, Team Canada, Rey Misterio and Booker keeps this tape entertaining. One quip is the astonishing amount of Shane Douglas on this tape shudders. This tape needs more Booker and less Sting.
