And the verdict is...
June 19, 2004 - Santa Ana, California
Your hosts are Excalibur and Disco Machine. The commentary comes on automatically here for the first two matches, but then you have to press the audio button to have it continue.
VS. Disco Machine, Topgun Talwar, Charles Mercury & Chris Bosh VS. Human Tornado, Supa Badd, Lil' Cholo & Phoenix Star
This match is Lucha rules. Because of Disco Machine's leadership his team finally has a name. Because of their promo at the end of the last DVD they are called Sexual Aggression. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knuckles up in a big circle. They all rush into each other and then fly out to the ropes. They go for it again but end up doing jumping jacks. Sexual Aggression has enough and they hit clotheslines on their opponents. Disco and Cholo get the match organized. Cholo hits an elbow drop but Disco comes back with an armdrag. Star hits Mercury with a leg lariat. Talwar hits Star with a spinebuster. Tornado hits a superkick on Talwar. Everyone stands together outside and helpfully get in place for Tornado to dive onto them from the top rope. That was cute. Back in the ring Tornado hits a tornado chop. Bosh blocks the tornado DDT and hits a backbreaker. Cholo comes in and hits a lungblower for 2. Mercury puts on a cloverleaf but Supa Badd breaks it up and hits a chokeslam for 2 when Disco saves. Bosh comes off the top with a splash for the win at 15:34. This was a phenomenal way to start the show, as the comedy was actually funny and the action never stopped. Rating: ***1/4

Decent little match. Rating: **1/4

VS. Bobby Quance VS. Puma
Quance hits a pair of Polish Hammers and Puma bails. Quance dives out to the floor and hits Puma with another one. Back in the ring Puma gets a single leg takedown and puts on a leglock. They fight it out on the turnbuckle and Quance hits the shooting star press for the win at 11:10. I believe that was the same finish to the American Dragon/Paul London match at ROH's Night of the Butcher, and it worked here almost as well as it did there. Good stuff here that picked up nicely as it went. Rating: **½
VS. CM Punk VS. Steve Corino
I've heard rumors about this match that make me very scared right now. Punk was supposed to face Spanky here, but he couldn't make it so we get this match. They lock up and Corino forces Punk to the corner. Punk grabs a hammerlock but Corino reverses to a front facelock. Punk reverses that to an armbar but Corino goes to a leglock. Punk kicks his back to escape. Punk does a little Low Ki impression and then knuckles up. Punk snaps Corino's arm so Corino puts on a headlock. Corino hits a clothesline and calls for a brainbuster but Punk rolls him up for 2. He hits a brainbuster for 2. Corino goes low and calls for the STO again but Punk catches him with a backslide for the win at 18:16. Not at all the nightmare that I'd heard it was, but I can see people expecting more from this match than they received. Rating: **3/4

They knuckle up and Joe hits a kick to the thigh. He takes B-Boy to the mat and puts on an armbar. B-Boy makes it to the ropes. Joe hits a series of crossface forearms and B-Boy bails. He goes for a suplex but B-Boy blocks and hits a side suplex. He hits the Shining Wizard for 2 when Joe gets his hand on the bottom rope. He goes for it again but Joe shoves him back and hits a clothesline for the win at 16:43. In April of 2004 Joe had to wrestle a mystery opponent in ROH. I thought it'd be B-Boy but it ended up being Ricky Reyes. This match was about as good as that one. Rating: **3/4
Bonus backstage shenanigans and tomfoolery
The opening match babyfaces complain that the referee is to blame for their loss tonight, and Supa Badd makes him do push ups. Hernandez bitches, but continues doing the push ups after the wrestlers leave.
Sexual Aggression is in good spirits tonight. Disco Machine says that they'll take on any four men in PWG. Adam Pearce comes out of nowhere and molests Disco, forcing Disco to declare that he'll go to war if he has a bald baby.
The Thomasellis say that even though they lost, they're proud that their last match in PWG was a good one against the Aerial Express. They're moving out to the East Coast, but they'll probably be back some day.
Chris Bosh is passed out at 9:34.
Scorpio Sky and Quicksilver congratulate the Iron Saints for being competitive, but tonight was the Arial Express's night. Quicksilver is confident that if he could hold the tag team titles with Chris Bosh it'd be no sweat for him to hold them with Scorpio Sky. They're also going to get revenge on Sexual Aggression.
Bosh is still passed out at 9:45.
Steve Corino calls PWG the next big thing in indy wrestling. He was happy to take Spanky's place tonight, and there's no shame in losing to CM Punk. He wants to take on the West Coast wrestlers, so he's coming back strong. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Chris Bosh hasn't moved and it's now 10:03.
Punk and Corino chew the fat about Low Ki. Dino Winwood comes in and does a pretty dead on Low Ki impression, talking low and stealing Punk's banana. Apparently he has heat with Super Dragon for not booking him in PWG, so he cries in Corino's arms.
10:20 and Bosh is still out.
Joey Ryan approaches Scott Lost about turning on him after winning the titles. Lost was mad that Ryan wasn't there during the match, so he wasn't there for him after the match. Even though Ryan was the one who got pinned against the Iron Saints, Lost took all the heat, and he wants Joey to sit on that for a while.
BOSH, wake the crap up, it's 10:37!
Excalibur is with Super Dragon and he likes to say the F-word. Ryan f'd up his knee really bad by landing on it after an f'n dropkick. He's f'n fat you know. Man, chill out Ex.
Bosh sort of wakes up at 10:55 and mumbles some nonsense. I had a Roommate named Bob last year who was addicted to Xanax. He used to eat Xanibars, which is something like 20 times the recommended dose, and he'd look like Bosh does here and say random things. One time he passed out with a bite of pizza in his mouth. He woke up 45 minutes later, finished chewing and swallowed it. That was a weird semester.
Lost says that he had reasons for doing what he did in the ring. He shows us a bruise he got from getting kicked full blast in the face when Ryan wasn't there to save him. He's going to use that bruise as a reminder. He quotes a Dark Helmet line from Space Balls, saying he was dumb for being a good guy. He's disgusted that he'll have to defend the tag team titles with Ryan because he wants some attention from the fans.
The Reference
Rocktoberfest is a play on the German festival Octoberfest. It has been used for many rock/metal/etc concerts, and since this show takes place in June I'm going to guess that's what they were referencing. Know better than I do? Let me know.
The 411:
While the main event left much to be desired, the rest of the show was good-really good all the way through. I also like the way that PWG lets you choose how much you want to see and hear. If you don't care about angles then you don't have to watch the bonus section. If you don't like, or are offended by the commentary you can choose not to turn it on. So with that being said I'm going to recommend you buy this DVD from PWG's Website and I'm going to continue to review PWG DVDs. So join me as Kazarian and Pearce settle their feud once and for all in The Reason for the Season.
