Tremendous Tirades: Grand Masters of Wrestling Vol. 1

Here’s the story on this DVD kids, I found this in the $1 DVD section of Wal-Mart. Yes, this little one-hour DVD cost me only $1. Is it any good or does it suck? Let’s find out.

  • We get some clips of “legends” signing autographs and some stuff and what looks like a stock Indy show.
  • Mike Omansky introduces Ken Patera. Patera’s here to be in the corner of the Mighty Macabee, who battles the Iron Sheik later. Patera doesn’t like Sheik of Iron Mike Sharpe because they’ve never won a match honestly. The bastards! He claims that the brace Sharpe wears is more than it appears to be, I am shocked! Ken is also doing play-by-play, good thing I have coffee.
  • Mike Omansky is in the ring to announce Ken Patera to the crowd. This place looks like my high school gym. They basically redo the same promo that we just saw, quality. Badly piped in crowd noise here, it’s bad because I see 100 people sitting there like they are at a Kenny G concert.
  • Backstage we are with a young Ace Darling. He’s excited to be here, and excited to wrestle Storm. They are former tag partners, and Ace is determined to win. His edge will be the crowd being behind him, he’s a little hungrier. Go to a buffet.
  • Backstage with a young Devon Storm. He says he is the better of the tag partners and will school Ace. Mike is very annoying as he asks the stupidest questions like, “Since you were partners, do you think you know each other well?” Well no shit dude.

  • Storm cuts a promo in the ring. We are all lucky to see him and Dawn here, and he’s lucky that he doesn’t rough us up! Ace grabs the mic and says that he will kick his…BUT! Potty mouth!

Ace Darling vs. Devon Storm w/Dawn Marie

They stall a bit and circle, lock up and Storm takes him to the corner and they break. Lock up again and a wristlock by Storm. Reversed by Ace, Storm rolls out and grabs another wristlock. Kip up by Ace and he gets a hammerlock. Off the ropes, reversals and a hip toss then slam by Ace. Dropkick to Storm and he rolls to the floor. Dawn tends to Storm, Storm then jaws at the commentators and then back into the ring. Lock up into a side headlock by Ace. Elbows by Storm, misses a right and then Ace gets a monkey flip. Side headlock again into a take down. Patera asks about 27-times if Dawn has a manager’s license. They turn off the crowd noise as Storm gets a head scissors. Off the ropes, counter and Storm with a dropkick and then a clothesline and Storm to the floor. Plancha by Ace, back in goes Storm and Dawn holds Ace, which allows Storm to get a baseball slide onto Ace. Summersault plancha by Storm. He celebrates a bit and then they go back into the ring. Forearms by Storm, off the ropes and a boot, followed by a suplex. Storm and Dawn clap at each other, and then Storm back to the attack. Snap mare and Storm with a leg drop to the nuts. Another. Storm goes up top and celebrates more. A cover on Ace gets 2, Ace rolls him up into a pin for 2. Rear chinlock by Storm now. Ace fights out, but Storm slams him down. Back to the rear chinlock…Ace battles to his feet, escapes and off the ropes but Storm with a springboard leg lariat for 2. Storm chokes him now, picks him up and slams him down. Sweet god, Mike calls a body slam a “crotch lift.” Storm goes up top…nails a moonsault for 2. He complains to the ref, kicks at Ace and then goes up top again. MISSES the second moonsault. Rights by Ace and Storm is down. Off the ropes and a dropkick to Storm. Superkick to Storm and Ace covers for 2. Dawn is on the apron, RANA by Ace. He goes after Dawn but Storm nails him from behind. Forearms to Ace, boot and a powerbomb to Ace. Storm up top…Ace up and crotches him. He goes up top as well…top rope RANA and that’s all.

Winner: Ace Darling @ 12:24 via pin

  • An okay match, nothing special and a bit slow and sloppy at times. **

  • Backstage with Iron Mike Sharpe. He is Canada’s greatest athlete. Mike denies using hidden objects; he’s to great a wrestler to do such things. Mike says you have to have a brain to wrestle, and Kamala lacks that. He says when he wins, he’ll stay around if he wishes, and it’s his choice.
  • Friday comes to the ring and says Kamala isn’t here. Mike says he knew he wouldn’t show up. Mike tells the ref to raise his hand because he automatically wins. The announcer talks to the promoter and decides that they have a substitute opponent for him.
  • Bundy calls Mike a punk and says he shall pay right now.

“Iron” Mike Sharpe vs. Kamala w/Friday King Kong Bundy

They stall and then the ref checks Mike’s armband. HE IS CANADA’S GREATEST ATHLETE! Mike runs and goes to the apron. Back in and locks up, tries to slam Bundy but gets shoved away. Mike is rather “portly” here to say the least. Bundy slams Mike and he rolls to the floor. ARRRR. Yes, yell Mike yell! Mike walks around the ring and says he prepared for Kamala, not Bundy. Back in the ring and he wants to shake. He gets an eye rake and then chokes Bundy. Tries to chop him and then gets shoulder charges in the corner. Bundy battles back, tosses Mike around but then misses the avalanche. More choking by Mike and then rights to Bundy. Forearm shots by Mike, and then a clothesline takes Bundy down. Mike talks shit to Patera and then clubs away on Bundy. Irish whip, reversal and the AVALANCHE. Mike rolls to the floor and they brawl. The ref counts as they fight, and they get counted out.

Winner: Double count out @ 6:50

  • About what you would expect and that isn’t good. (N-R)

The Mental Maniac vs. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka

I have no clue who The Maniac is. He looks like a shorter, fatter Crush.

Snuka offers to shake, but no dice. Amazingly enough, they stall to begin their match. Finally they lock up and an eye rake by The Maniac. Head butt by The Maniac and then he chokes Snuka. Eye rake again to Snuka and then a choke. A side headlock now by The Maniac, which lasts forever. Off the ropes and a shoulder block takes Snuka down. Snuka finally with a double chop and The Maniac leaves the ring. He eventually comes back, jaws at Patera and finally into the ring. Lock up and knees and chops by Snuka. Irish whip and a reversal, Snuka to the 2nd rope with a cross body, countered into a pin by The Maniac for 2. Small package by Snuka for 2. The Maniac gets a clothesline, covers and gets 2. Headlock on the may by The Maniac. Snuka battles but can’t escape. Snuka to his feet, chops and more chops. Off the ropes and a flying head butt by Snuka. A slam by Snuka and he goes up to the 2nd rope…and misses a head butt. He tries to roll Snuka over, does and covers for 2. Low blow by The Maniac. Slam to Snuka, The Maniac goes up top…Snuka is moving, The Maniac is up but Snuka grabs him and slams him off the top. Snuka goes up top…big cross body and that’s all.

Winner: “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka @ 11:17 via pin

  • The Maniac was pretty bad, but Snuka did a good job here and it was a passable event, if very slow. *½

  • No Extras.
  • The 411: First of all the audio is pretty bad. Horrible piped in crowd noise that goes in and out on you. Secondly the commentary is really bad as well. Patera will put you to sleep and Mike isn’t any better. For the $1 I spent, I can’t complain that much about the matches. Darling vs. Storm was fun and it’s cool to see how they developed over time. Mike Sharpe is always cool to see and Snuka could pull a decent match here, which if I am correct is the early 90’s as they mentioned Raw. For $1 it's a fun DVD.
