  • A good opening match. They had a couple spots that were off, and it was below what they have done previously due to lack of time and some off spots, but a good opener nonetheless.
    Rating: **¾

-Sting cuts a short promo, declaring he will defeat Flair.

Arn drops the coat and they brawl! Arn is all over Flair and they brawl up the entrance. Arn goes back to the ring and gets his coat while staring down Sting.

Winner: Sting @ 9:30 via DQ
  • It was repetitive, but a fine match overall since it was Sting vs. Flair. Hot crowd and they played into the Fall brawl match with Arn vs. Flair.
    Rating: **

Winner: Hulk Hogan @ 7:10 via pin
  • Your usual Hogan vs. Monster match. It was fine, the crowd liked it and Rogers was more of a worker than most give credit.
    Rating: *¾

-Hogan celebrates as the Dungeon of Doom hits the ring! He fights them off and LUGER is here! He helps run them off and he and Hulk stand tall, back into each other and look to fight. They talk shit back and forth and Sting is now out to calm things, as is Savage.

-Mean Gene talks about how important Hogan being on Nitro was to attract the non-hardcore wrestling fan.

-Mean Gene hits the ring as the crowd is hot for Luger. Hulk asks what Luger is doing here, and Luger says that he is here because people say Hulk is #1 and has the WCW belt. That make shim the ONLY world champion, and Luger wants the belt. Luger says to let him finish. He has been where he has been and beaten the same people. He is here to battle the big boys and wants his shot. Hulk says this is the WCW title and he is the champ. Hulk says he played games, but he gives Luger his due, but when you come to WCW and get into Hogan’s face, you have to face the Hulkamaniacs as well. Hogan says he doesn’t have to wait, just shake his hand and he will defend the title NEXT week on Nitro. They shake and the match is made. They shove and Sting and Savage keep them apart.

-Bishoff, Heenan and Mongo wrap up the show hyping the debut of Sabu, Wallstreet, Savage vs. Norton and the WCW Title match.

The 411: I know that it was nearly two-years later, but the contrast in debut shows was amazing. While WWF at the time was just content on putting on “a show,” in my opinion, with short matches and the like, WCW tried to hit a homerun, and they did. Great cruiserweight opener, two title matches, introducing new characters and the big debut of Luger, leading to a title match made this a must see show at the time. A good show to go back and watch and of course, a MUST HAVE for historical purposes.

Final Score:  8.0   [ Very Good ]  legend

I know Nitro was the must see live show giving the big time matches, but if they
would have built that match up for Halloween Havoc or Starcade, then Luger-Hogan
would have been big at that time. Disregarding the lack of technical moves and
all, it would have been really big to build up to those two on PPV.

I remember this, how i waited for this to happen back then, and the next 4-5
years was the best time to be a wrestling fan. I hate how people piss on WcW
these days,i honestly think there would not be wrestling on tv as we have
today, had it not been for this program.
BTW, now that it has been 13 years, What in the blue HELL did mongo say there
at the beginning, has anyone any clue what he said, and what did he mean by it?

I agree "Casual Monday", those 4-5 years were the best time ever for a
wrestling. I would watch Nitro Live and tape Raw, but as Vince started
improving his product, I started alternating between the two. I know that TNA
is a nice alternative, but it definitely is not in WCW's class. Sorry
"E" homers, but Vince is not putting out a quality product right now.
And I think I have about 9-10 million fans who agree with me, as that is about
the difference in viewership from 2000 to 2008.

Mongo said: LOOK AT THIS VENUE HERE, THIS PLACE HIS APPAPRO AND THAT DON'T MEAN
YOU'RE DIGGIN' IN THE DIRT WITH FARM IMPLEMENTS BABY!

I know what he meant, but it would take years to explain it.

Okay, you see he was saying the place was appropiate - and then makes a joke
that the slang word he used was not about farming or Aragulultue (sic).

    Uh -- forget it.

Nitro has a pretty good debut. Heck, the average Liger/Pillman and Flair/Sting
matches were actually better than some WWE PPV main events these days.

I'm making a motion to continue with the absurd Mongo comments.

"If you don't think WCW has the best ath-uh-letes, then you've got rocks
in your head bigger than Mount Rushmore!"

    And so on...

I remember the Sabu promo from this show. Anyone know where/how WCW obtained
footage of Sabu wrestling? Did they tape him wrestling at a WCW house show
before this show? Was it Japan footage?

    Just wondering.

to me RAW would be more exciting and have a good match or two, but nitro always
brought it with the wrestling. it just sucked when theyd give 10+ minutes to
pointless matches. hell yeah for norton

    More Mongo quotes!!!

Agree, Hogan vs Luger, with Luger's big return to the company would have been
    huge business for Havoc 95.

But we got Monster Truck Sumo instead, with Giant being thrown off the roof
before winning the WCW title fifteen minutes later.

I actually thought the Sting/Flair match was better than you said, although the
other two matches were about right. I've reviewed this show as well along with
all the Nitro's from 1995, and they will be up on the site in the coming months
(with loads of other WCW 1995 reviews).

HMFiles, the Sabu footage was taped at a WCW Saturday night/WCW Pro taping. He
did one or two TV tapings before making his Nitro debut, then lasted another 6
weeks or so. I believe he had only 4 or 5 matches with WCW.

Those were the good ole days...I think I taped every Monday Nitro...I am in the
process of burning them to dvd...I will watch them instead of Raw every Monday
    nite.
