The Magnus Analysis – Chikara Time Will Prove Everything

Chikara presented this event on the 24th of March 2007 in Hellertown, PA, as the fallout from the King of Trios tournament.

Commentary is on rotation, with your commentators being Mike Quackenbush, Bryce Remsburg, Chuck Taylor, Leonard F Chikarason and Chris Hero. Quack and Bryce start the show off.

Match 1
Chuck Taylor vs Billy Roc
Chuck Taylor makes an awesome entrance, making a re-entrance when the fans booed him, stealing someone’s cell phone then telling an annoying fan to die. This was a fun little match, which had some comedy with Roc forcing Taylor to shake hands with him when he refused at the start of the match. Roc wrestled more of a high flying style, with some innovative moves, and he also used some submissions. Taylor tried to slow the match down and cheated as often as he could along with arguing with the referee and the fans. Taylor won with the Omega Driver, and overall I thought this was a good opening match- **3/4

Match 2
Brodie Lee vs Equinox
This is the first time I’ve seen Brodie Lee in action. A decent match, and I was impressed with Brodie Lee who showed some impressive power moves. Equinox also appeared to be reasonably on, and didn’t botch all his moves this time around. A little too short to be anything special though, but decent enough while it lasted. Equinox won with a Small Package- **1/4

Crossbones tells us that Ultramantis Black and Hydra aren’t here (they were supposedly suspended for failing the Chikara Wellness program, thus proving Chikara’s awesomeness ever further), then shouts down the Create A Wrestler concept and alludes that he will be a Deadman by constantly referencing The Undertaker. Icarus quickly comes in and praises Crossbones, suggesting he could be a future Kings of Wrestling member.

Match 3
Crossbones vs Create A Wrestler
This wasn’t much of a match, but it was fun to see Crossbones throw Create A Wrestler around like a ragdoll. Create A Wrestler however is still very green and did not hit all of him moves cleanly. Still, not too bad overall. Crossbones won this with a Here It Is Driver (obviously he doesn’t call it that)- **

The Ants and Hallowicked cut a promo saying they lost in the Trios tournament last month, then basically say they will beat The Blackout tonight to prove themselves.

Chuck Taylor is now solo on commentary.

Match 4
The Blackout (Ruckus, Sabian, Joker and Eddie Kingston) vs Hallowicked and The Colony (Fire, Soldier and Worker Ant)
A very fun eight man tag here. The lucha rules allowed for quick action early on, with one wrestler coming in whenever another would take a move. The match remained at a fast pace, with several dives to the outside, and each wrestler getting a chance to shine, before the Blackout took control working on Soldier Ant (playing the rudos with some cheating tactics). After a prolonged period of domination, Fire Ant got the ‘hot tag’, before everyone started hitting moves in the corner. After everyone got in their finishing moves, Hallowicked got three with a Schoolboy on Kingston- ***1/2

After the match, Kingston, attacked Hallowicked, shoved Bryce Remsburg over then left on his own.

We then get some replays of the big moves in the last match.

Chris Hero cut a promo, saying that 2007 will be a better year for the Kings of Wrestling, and tonight all of Ricochet’s flips will not save him from defeat.

Leonard F Chikarason is now the sole commentator.

Match 5
Chris Hero vs Ricochet
This is a match I’m really looking forward to. Early on, Hero was doing as many flips as Ricochet, and overpowered him easily while taking time to pose again and again. Ricochet had to use his high flying moves to get an advantage on Hero. However, this did not last long as Hero was soon able to slow the match down, grounding Ricochet with power and innovative submissions, with a few flips and hard strikes in their too. Ricochet was only able to attack in brief flurry’s, being completely outclassed, but finally fought back towards the end with his high flying offense. Both men exchanged close near falls, but neither could get three. However, eventually Hero was able to get the victory with the Hero’s Welcome. Another great match, but nobody believed Ricochet could beat Hero, and it showed with Hero having around 80% of the offense in the match- ***1/2

The Olsen Twins cut a promo saying that the only reason they lost their last two matches was because their opponents cheated. They do claim however that they can easily beat ShaneSaw tonight.

Match 6
The Olsen Twins (Jimmy and Colin Olsen) vs ShaneSaw (Jigsaw and Shane Storm)
The Olsen’s are kind of like the American 2.0: a flamboyant and goofy, yet talented tag team. This was a fun tag match, with the Olsen’s act being entertaining, and the wrestling was also pretty solid other than a few botches here and there. Lots of comedy early on, with Storm stopping the Olsen’s in their tracks with the Stop sign so he and Jigsaw could text each other. The Olsen’s then take control, isolating Storm with their old school style offense, before Jigsaw made the hot tag. We saw some innovative tag team offense, with both teams coming close to victory, before Jigsaw got the pin with the Jig N’Tonic- ***

Claudio Castagnoli cuts a promo saying that while Mike Quackenbush has beaten him several times, he has defeated Mike Quackenbush in every single match for over a year. Claudio then says that Quack will have to wait to get a shot at Chris Hero, as he will be the one to face him next month.

Match 7
Winner Faces Chris Hero next month- Claudio Castagnoli vs Mike Quackenbush
These two have had many great battles in the past and this should be another good one. This started out slower than their earlier matches, with more mat wrestling, and the occasional brief high flying sequence. After the action picked up, Quack went for a Hurracarana on the outside, Castagnoli caught him and Powerbomb’s him into the ring. Castagnoli then uses his power and a few submissions to control the match. Quack fights back with a flurry of offense, using Claudio’s power against him, then both men come close with near fall after near fall. The ref then gets knocked down, as Quack got the Quackendriver which would have gotten three, then the ref comes back in time to count a Backslide Claudio gets on Quack for three. Not quite as good as some of their previous encounters, but still good- ***1/4

Match 8
Team FIST (Icarus and Gran Akuma) vs Lince Dorado and Sicodelico Jr
An interesting tag team match here. Team FIST start off quick, and largely control the opening portion of the match with the occasional offensive move by their Mexican opponents. They use a good amount of double team offense, with Akuma basically kicking Dorado time and time again with a few submissions used as well, and Icarus wrestling quite similar but also using more ground offense and high flying moves, and cheating on several occasions. Dorado then makes the hot tag, and the Mexicans make a fightback, with both teams getting some near falls. Team FIST get the victory with a sloppy Lungblower/Yoshi-Tonic combo. Not too much of a main event, but solid enough- **1/2

There are several of the Chikara podcasts on this DVD as a bonus, but I won’t go into those.

The 411: Other than the disappointing main event, this was a very good Chikara show with two great matches in the midcard, two good matches, and the rest is all solid with the lowest rated match being **. This is an easy recommendation.
