Kazuchika Okada Becomes Longest-Reigning IWGP Champion in History

Kazuchika Okada has set the record for the longest IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign of all-time. Okada passed Shinya Hashimoto on Sunday to become the longest holder of the title to date with a 490 day title reign. Hashimoto held the title from April 29th, 1996 through August 31st, 1997.

Okada won the title from Tetsuya Naito at NJPW Dominion on June 19th, 2016. He currently has four total reigns with the title, behind Hiroshi Tanahashi’s record title reigns of seven.
